IT FEELS GOOD TO BE SO CLOSE TO “NORMAL” AGAIN! We are close to being completely free to get out and about, free to do things. Fortunately, in Casa de Campo, there is another kind of freedom that nourishes our souls. Knowing that with the warm summer sun beating down on us, we’ll also be free to enjoy some of the wonderful activities we have missed for so long. I, for one, have been away from my Casa family for too long and look forward to seeing everyone very soon. s there such a thing as a secret to a happy marriage? Curious about this, we set out to ask couples in our Casa de Campo community what they believe has made their marriages thrive many years later after saying "I do," and some even shared some anecdotes!

THE COUPLE: Susana Joa and Ricardo Bello Respect, understanding, space, individual growth but always in the same direction, and a feeling of freedom. Anecdote When I was seventeen years old, we started dating or seeing each other, but my parents back then were very traditional and did not want me to marry a Westerner, so they sent me away to live in Hong Kong. A year later, he sent me a plane ticket to travel to where he was. Ricardo's father was the one who bought it but before doing so told him: "Son, with that money, you can make your first import," and as a merchant from a young age, Ricardo replied: "I am going to import the Chinese girl!" To this day, he says it's the best investment that he has made! Respeto, comprensión, espacio, crecimiento individual aunque en una misma dirección, y sensación de libertad. Anécdota Cuando tenía diecisiete años empezamos los amores, pero mis padres en ese entonces eran muy tradicionales y no querían que me casara con un occidental, así que me enviaron a vivir a Hong Kong. Un año después, me envió un boleto de avión para viajar a donde estaba. El padre de Ricardo fue quien lo compró pero antes de hacerlo le dijo: "Hijo, con ese dinero puedes hacer tu primera importación", y como comerciante desde muy joven Ricardo respondió: "¡Yo voy a importar a la chinita!" Hasta el día de hoy, ¡dice que es la mejor inversión que ha hecho! THE COUPLE: Cindy Ramos and Paul Sheldrake There is really no big secret for us. We are very open in communicating with each other, whatever the subject may be. We equally help each other out, and we make light of things that may come our way. Plus we really like each other, which is a bonus! Realmente no hay un gran secreto para nosotros. Somos muy abiertos en la comunicación entre nosotros, sea cual sea el tema. Nos ayudamos mutuamente por igual y tomamos las cosas que pueden surgir en nuestro camino como vengan. Además, nos gustamos mucho, ¡lo cual es una ventaja!

THE COUPLE: Mariela Severino de Ocampo and Juan Esteban Ocampo We do not have a secret, nor do we believe in them, but knowing that you have the freedom to be yourself and finding someone you can count on unconditionally to be free together is priceless. We always consider each other for everything, and we are direct with what we like and do not like. We set goals together and even do "competitions" to encourage ourselves. But most importantly, we respect each other and support each other in everything and for everything. Now then, not everything is perfect; If we have a fight or a disagreement, we apply a rule that we've had since we started dating: If one makes the other smile, it's an automatic clean slate, and we move on. Anecdote We met when we were still in school; we were 16 and 17 years old, respectively. It took us three days to give each other our first kiss, and from then on, we talked every day on the phone until dawn, and in class, we passed each other little papers with messages under the desks. Finally, after many obstacles and trials that we had to overcome due to our immaturity, we put God as our guide in our relationship, and here we are 16 years later.

THE COUPLE: Loida and Jason Kycek God, love, understanding, respect, and a lot of complicity. Dios, amor, comprensión, respeto y mucha complicidad. Anecdote I met Jason in the ‘90s here in the Dominican Republic. He worked for an advertising company. That night I didn't want to go out but my friends convinced me to cheer up. While I was in that place (blessed place) a person approached me and said; my friend does not speak Spanish but wants to meet you. I turned ready to say no but when I saw that smile that characterizes him, I instantly said yes! It was love at first sight for both of us and since that day we have been together. Anécdota Conocí a Jason en los 90 aquí en la República Dominicana. El trabajaba para una empresa de publicidad. Esa noche no queria salir pero mis amigas me convencieron para que me animara. Mientras estaba en ese lugar (bendito lugar) una persona se me acercó y dijo; mi amigo no habla español pero quiere conocerte. Me di la vuelta dispuesta a decirle que no pero cuando vi esa sonrisa que lo caracteriza, ¡instantáneamente dije que sí! Fue amor a primera vista para los dos y desde ese día estamos juntos.

No tenemos un secreto, ni creemos en ellos, pero saber que tienes la libertad de ser tú mismo y encontrar a alguien con quien puedas contar incondicionalmente para ser libres juntos no tiene precio. Siempre nos consideramos para todo, y somos directos con lo que nos gusta y lo que no nos gusta. Nos fijamos metas juntos e incluso hacemos "competencias" para animarnos. Pero lo más importante es que nos respetamos y nos apoyamos en todo y para todo. Ahora bien, no todo es perfecto; si tenemos una pelea o un desacuerdo, aplicamos una regla que hemos tenido desde que comenzamos a salir: si uno hace sonreír al otro, hacemos borrón y cuenta nueva y seguimos adelante. Anécdota Nos conocimos cuando aún estábamos en la escuela; teníamos 16 y 17 años, respectivamente. Tardamos tres días en darnos nuestro primer beso, ya partir de ahí conversamos todos los días por teléfono hasta el amanecer, y en clase nos pasábamos papelitos con mensajes debajo de las butacas. Finalmente, luego de muchos obstáculos y pruebas que tuvimos que superar por nuestra inmadurez, pusimos a Dios como guía en nuestra relación, y aquí estamos 16 años después.

THE COUPLE: Dinalcy Elizabeth Camacho and Jonathan Reyes Soriano Most would say that love and respect are the "secrets" of a happy marriage, but I would like to add a few more things, such as coexistence as a couple. There must be friendship and honesty; we tell a friend how we feel, what we like or not, talk about matters of interest, and worry about what happens to them and their well-being. Although we certainly must make constant improvements as individuals, it's better to approach things as a team, identify skills, and add them to our strengths as a couple. Things are not resolved by exploding or being silent; it is by talking politely to one another. I end with something straightforward but essential, "courtesy" is as necessary as love, and it costs nothing. Anecdote Our relationship was in a challenging time. All the discussions ended the same, without results because the focus was only to accuse one another. Until one day, we changed the mechanics, and we decided to express how we felt with a focus on solutions. Finally, there were some initiatives that each one chose to put into practice, and here we are, super happy with two girls and a baby on the way, already a decade together. La mayoría diría que el amor y el respeto son los "secretos" de un matrimonio feliz, pero me gustaría agregar algunas cosas más, como la convivencia en pareja. Debe haber amistad y honestidad; le contamos a un amigo cómo nos sentimos, qué nos gusta o no, hablamos de temas de interés, y nos preocupamos por lo que les pasa y por su bienestar. Aunque ciertamente debemos hacer mejoras constantes como individuos, es mejor abordar las cosas en equipo, identificar habilidades y sumarlas a nuestras fortalezas como pareja. Las cosas no se resuelven explotando o en silencio; es hablando cortésmente entre sí. Termino con algo sencillo pero esencial, la "cortesía" es tan necesaria como el amor y no cuesta nada. Anécdota Nuestra relación estaba en una época difícil. Todas las discusiones terminaban igual, sin resultados porque el foco era solo acusarnos el uno al otro. Hasta que un día cambiamos la mecánica y decidimos expresar cómo nos sentíamos con un enfoque en las soluciones. Finalmente, de esto resultaron algunas iniciativas que cada uno eligió poner en práctica, y aquí estamos, super felices con dos niñas y un bebé en camino, juntos ya una década.

THE COUPLE: Cesi Gil-Lillibridge and Eric Lillibridge In our particular case, we always try to find time to spend together as a couple. We are the parents of a 4-year-old boy, and sometimes life can be chaotic, and the days go by very quickly, but we always try to find time for a date night and, in this way, slow down and reconnect. Another aspect is that we do not take discussions to heart. If we argue the next day, we start from scratch. Finally, we always treat each other with respect and take care of each other. Those have been the secrets of our marriage. Anecdote A few years ago, Eric took me to Lake Tahoe, and we stayed in a beautiful hotel. We had a spectacular weekend with walks around the lake and romantic dinners; it was marvelous. After the trip, the night when we got back to his parent's house, he opened a bottle of wine and asked me to marry him. After I said yes and the emotion subsided, I asked him: Why didn't you propose to me in Lake Tahoe? To which he replied: Because I forgot the ring at my parents' house. C

En nuestro caso particular, siempre tratamos de encontrar tiempo para pasar juntos como pareja. Somos los padres de un niño de 4 años, y a veces la vida puede ser caótica, y los días pasan muy rápido, pero siempre tratamos de encontrar tiempo para tener una cita y, de esta forma, ralentizar y reconectar. Otro aspecto es que no nos tomamos en serio las discusiones. Si discutimos al día siguiente, comenzamos de cero. Finalmente, siempre nos tratamos con respeto y nos cuidamos. Esos han sido los secretos de nuestro matrimonio. Anécdota Hace unos años, Eric me llevó al lago Tahoe y nos hospedamos en un hermoso hotel. Pasamos un fin de semana espectacular con paseos por el lago y cenas románticas; fue maravilloso. Después del viaje, la noche en que regresamos a la casa de sus padres, abrió una botella de vino y me pidió que me casara con él. Después de que dije que sí y se bajara la emoción, le pregunté: ¿Por qué no me propusiste matrimonio en Lake Tahoe? A lo que él respondió: Porque olvidé el anillo en la casa de mis padres.

any things have to be considered when organizing an event; these usually take a lot of time and multiple people to get various tasks done. However, professional event planners have a long list of tips, tricks, and resources under their sleeves that they have developed through years of experience and practice. Anyely Payero and Evaristo De Los Santos have worked in event planning for many years. They met at a Christmas workshop, and thanks to their love for their profession, they quickly became friends. Tell us about yourself. I am a passionate young man, lover of excellence, art, and nature. When I was in school, I used to get involved in all the events and everything art-related. I liked being at parties and launches, helping with all the details, even creating murals. I also have vivid memories of cutting all the flowers and foliage in my grandmother's garden. After God, she is my greatest inspiration; my love for plants and flowers comes from her. I come from a home filled with love, values, and positive teachings. When I was 14 years old, I helped my aunt with a wedding she was organizing. It was a great and unique experience, and I loved it! From then on, I understood that weddings and event planning would become my great passion. How would you describe what you do? What does your job entail? Passion x Perfection = Fun; This is how I describe what I do. It challenges me, but it also reflects discipline and dedication. I love my job and the ability to create memorable events full of style and elegance. Why should couples hire a wedding planner? Planning can be stressful! How do you stay creatively inspired? We love to create and design to keep our essence alive. We love open interpretation and originality. I'm constantly studying, reading, traveling, tasting exquisite dishes, getting to know my country, our local products, and our culture. I go to the beach to connect with myself and with nature; visit museums, watch movies and series related to art, dreams, and architecture. I also usually go to the mountains alone, work with flowers, and talk to my grandparents about their childhood. What is the most challenging thing about what you do? What is the most rewarding? Most challenging; To be able to interpret the tastes and dreams of our clients. But the most gratifying is to see our clients' reactions when we present them with the completed venue just they had imagined it; that moment is magical. It motivates us to continue improving and exceeding their expectations. What makes a wedding a success? Planning, order, transparency, honesty, discipline, love, and teamwork.

ANYELY PAYERO Tell us about yourself. I love challenges and dream big. I studied at the Caribbean Military Academy, studied cosmetology in Miami, then fashion design in Barcelona. A few years after coming back to the Dominican Republic, I had my first and only child, my greatest love and inspiration, my Dylan. For his first-year birthday party, I hired a great company to organize it. However, I still overlooked every detail since it was a special moment for us, and everything turned out as I had envisioned it. I fell in love with the planning and organization process of events and how a small party could end up being a grand celebration. Since then, I have dedicated myself to celebrating all his birthdays. They were great productions and the start of my social events firm. What do you like the most about being a wedding planner? Being able to witness and make my client's dreams come true, ensuring that every detail is as they have imagined it. When should a couple contact a wedding planner? We always recommend that couples start researching a wedding coordinator or planner after getting engaged and setting a tentative date. Before deciding on one, it's essential to thoroughly vet them to ensure that they're the right fit for them. A good wedding planner can coach you through which vendors you should book first and how to think outside the box when it comes to crafting your dream wedding. When looking for a wedding planner, what are some good questions the couple should ask at the initial consultation? ue to its extraordinary beauty and breathtaking landscapes, the Dominican Republic has become one of the most popular locations for destination weddings. When choosing a destination wedding, the couple and their guests will undoubtedly enjoy an unforgettable experience. However, they will also have to deal with the stress of marrying in a foreign country with laws and requirements that might differ from the ones back home. After all, as much as it is a celebration, the wedding day is ultimately about making it official. This article will provide some basic legal information to keep in mind when choosing this great country to celebrate your special day. First off, there are some general formalities to getting married in the Dominican Republic: the couple should be of legal age, which in this country is 18 years of age; the marriage should be between a man and a woman; neither can be married to other people at the time of the wedding; and that they are getting married on their own free will. Once these requirements are met, the couple can choose the type of ceremony they would like to have, of either a civil or religious ceremony.

CIVIL CEREMONIES This type of ceremony is held and registered by a government official from the National Registry. This official can also move to another location. The following are required: • Birth certificate, legalized by apostille. If your home country is not part of the Hague Convention, the document must be legalized at the nearest Dominican Consulate; • The couple's IDs: Passports or Dominican ID (for Dominican citizens); • A "No Marital Status Certificate" (also known as No Impediment, Single Statement, or Negative Statement of Marriage) confirms that no other marriage record exists. It should be legalized by apostille or by the Dominican Consulate. The government provides this document in your country. An affidavit before a Dominican Notary can substitute it and is unnecessary if the passport specifies the marital status as single; • If previously married, a divorce certificate, legalized by apostille or the Dominican Consulate; • If widowed, the death certificate of the previous spouse, legalized by apostille 36 CASA DE CAMPO LIVING

RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES If the couple aspires to have a religious ceremony, there are two main religious denominations that can perform it with the same legal effects as a civil marriage:

Roman Catholics: This ceremony is held and registered by a catholic priest. Following the ceremony, the church takes responsibility for registering the marriage with the appropriate Dominican government offices. The following documents are required, along with the ones listed for a civil union:

• Acta de nacimiento, legalizada por apostilla. Si su país de origen no es parte de la convención de La Haya, el documento debe estar legalizado en el Consulado Dominicano más cercano; • Documentos de identificación de la pareja: pasaportes o cédula dominicana (para ciudadanos dominicanos); • Certificado de soltería del país de origen o residencia que confirme que no existe ningún registro de matrimonio. Este documento debe ser legalizado por apostilla o el Consulado Dominicano. Este documento puede ser sustituido por una declaración jurada ante un notario dominicano, y no es necesario si el pasaporte especifica el estado civil como soltero. • Si estuvo casado anteriormente, certificado de divorcio, legalizado por apostilla o en el Consulado dominicano; • En caso de ser viudo, acta de defunción del cónyuge anterior, legalizada mediante apostilla o en el Consulado dominicano; • Al menos 2 testigos, no relacionados con la pareja.

Christians: (previously authorized by the registrar's office to perform marriages): This ceremony is held by a pastor or minister. The following documents are required, along with the ones listed for a civil union: • Belong to the same church (if one of them belongs to a different one, the spouse must present a pastoral letter); • Be baptized; • Take part in a premarital seminar.

MATRIMONIAL PROPERTY LAWS The Dominican Civil Code defines marriage as a contract between a man and a woman who have agreed to marry and are fully capable of doing so. Dominican law establishes different marital regimes that grant rights and responsibilities regarding the personal assets of the spouses. The most common ones are: Community Property System: This is the default system assumed by authorities unless indicated otherwise. This system includes all movable property, vehicles, and bank accounts at marriage into the spouses' patrimony and those obtained afterward. Real estate property from before the wedding or acquired after that by inheritance or donation is not included.

CEREMONIAS RELIGIOSAS Si la pareja aspira a tener una ceremonia religiosa, existen dos denominaciones religiosas que pueden realizarla con los mismos efectos legales que un matrimonio civil: Católicos: Esta ceremonia la lleva a cabo y registra un sacerdote católico. Después de la ceremonia, la iglesia asume la responsabilidad de registrar el matrimonio en las oficinas gubernamentales dominicanas correspondientes. Se requieren los siguientes documentos, adicionales a los que se enumeran para un matrimonio civil: • Certificados de bautismo de la pareja; • Certificados de confirmación de la pareja;

Separate Property System: In this regime, each spouse maintains ownership and administration over their assets. Suppose you want to use a system different from the community property. In that case, an attorney must draft an agreement, which must then be legalized by a public notary and submitted to the corresponding Civil Registry before the ceremony. Agreements different from those previously established in the Dominican Civil Code are allowed. However, its terms must not go against the Dominican Public Order laws or its ethical and moral values.

PROPIEDAD DE BIENES MATRIMONIALES El Código Civil dominicano define el matrimonio como un contrato entre un hombre y una mujer que han acordado casarse y son plenamente capaces de hacerlo. La ley dominicana establece diferentes regímenes matrimoniales que otorgan derechos y responsabilidades sobre el patrimonio personal de los cónyuges. Los más comunes son: Comunidad de bienes: este es el sistema predeterminado asumido por las autoridades a menos que se indique lo contrario. En este sistema se incorporarán al patrimonio de los cónyuges todos los bienes muebles, vehículos y cuentas bancarias al momento del matrimonio, así como los obtenidos posteriormente, con excepción de los bienes inmuebles anteriores al matrimonio u obtenidos posteriormente por herencia o donación. Separación de bienes: En este régimen, cada cónyuge mantiene la propiedad y la administración de sus bienes individuales. Si se desea utilizar un sistema diferente al de la comunidad de bienes, un convenio debe ser redactado formalmente por un abogado, legalizado por un notario público y presentado al Registro Civil correspondiente antes de la ceremonia. REGISTRAR EL MATRIMONIO EN SU PAÍS DE ORIGEN

Many countries require that marriages abroad are also registered locally. Others recognize the validity of the wedding if it complies with the laws of the hosting country and it doesn't violate local internal rules. It is advisable to inquire about your country's specific requirements to recognize marriages that take place abroad. Common issues that prevent a marriage from being recognized are the spouses' age, whether they were of legal age in their country; same-sex marriages; or polygamous marriages. Suppose your country requires that you register your marriage abroad for it to be valid. You will need to provide the marriage certificate from the Dominican Republic, make sure it's legalized by apostille and translated to the corresponding language.

From there, a beautiful friendship and connection was born that turned into a love story over time. When and why did you decide to get married in Casa de Campo? In the fall of 2019, during our vacations in the Dominican Republic, we spent only one night at Casa de Campo, but that was enough.

¿Cuándo y por qué decidieron casarse en Casa de Campo? En el otoño de 2019, durante nuestras vacaciones en República Dominicana, solo pasamos una noche en Casa de Campo, pero eso fue suficiente.

Since then, we've viewed it as a magical Caribbean retreat. When you cross the gates, you feel like you are in another world. It's the opposite of a typical beach resort where you run into the same people every day. Instead, you feel like a resident. I think the golf cart and distance in between places help that mindset. The diversity is incredible. You can go from a pristine resort to the beach to what looks like a charming ancient village sculpted entirely of stone on a cliff. We genuinely feel like it is an escape from reality. It stuck in our minds as the most unique resort we'd ever been to, and we knew right then that it was the place where we wanted to get married.

Desde entonces, lo hemos visto como un retiro mágico en el Caribe. Cuando cruzas las puertas, te sientes como si estuvieras en otro mundo. Deborah and Theresa, our wedding coordinators at Casa de Campo, were fantastic all along the way as well. Where did your reception take place? La Piazzetta, Altos de Chavón. The venue was on a cliff overlooking the river, and the village behind it was covered in Christmas lights. We look back at pictures and still cannot believe we got married in such an incredible and magical place. Your dress was absolutely stunning, can you tell us about it. I found my wedding dress in a local boutique in Queens, NY, around where I grew up. I was then blessed to have my dear sweet, and talented aunt Ramonita apply the finishing touches to make the dress perfect. It was a beautiful romantic dress with an English net, lace floral

Mariella: When I first walked in and saw him at the altar. Another memorable moment, other than saying our vows, was having our friends and family sharing the most special day of our lives with us. Did your wedding in Casa de Campo live up to your expectations? Yes, it did! Our wedding took place this past December, so the Christmas decorations only added to the beauty of our venue. We felt very safe during our stay, everyone followed the protocols, and the gatherings took place outside. We hope to laugh about everyone wearing masks in our pictures 50 years from now!

The Marina Casa de Campo is set in 90,000 square meters of land where the Chavón River meets the Caribbean Sea. Certainly, one of the Dominican Republic’s most upscale marinas, La Marina, as it’s known by locals, is close to a multitude of scenic sea destinations such as Catalina island, Saona island, and Palmilla, a natural swimming pool, as well as waters ripe for sport fishing which has granted them an appearance in the annual Billfish Report since 2013. Opened in 2001, the Marina Casa de Campo marked a turning point in the development of both yachting and fishing activities in the eastern region of the country. The project was so successful that just a year later, an expansion of the Marina was approved and the wave breaker was cut and a second stage was constructed taking the project from 183 moorings to a total of 350 docks and capable of receiving ships from 30 to 250 feet in length. The high quality of service, excellent facilities, and ease of access at the Marina Casa de Campo have all contributed to its success. This prestigious project is a dream come true, conceived by Italian architect Gianfranco Fini on his first visit to Casa de Campo after receiving an invitation from his friend Pierro Giacosa in 1989. Fini fell in love with the country and resort and presented his vision to Alfonso “Alfy” Fanjul, President of the Board of Directors Central Romana Corporation, in a fortuitous meeting aboard a river cruise boat up the Chavón River.
