The Lethbridge Society of Glass Artisans

The Lethbridge Society of Glass Artisans (LSGA), formerly known as the Lethbridge Society of Stained Glass Artisans, has been practicing and promoting the glass arts in Southern Alberta for over 35 years. LSGA returned to its roots at McNally School - now known as McNally Art Studios - in 2015, where it currently boasts a large, thriving member studio with tools, supplies, and machinery to practice a variety of glass arts, including stained glass, fused glass, mosaics, cold-working, glass repairs, and more.

Over the last year, LSGA has been the humble recipient of generous grants from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Give One Legacy Foundation, and the Community Foundation for Lethbridge & Southern Alberta. These grants have contributed directly to LSGA's ability to expand their class o erings, and they hold regular and new classes frequently. Classes range from 2-hour "taste of glass” sessions, to multi-week beginner, intermediate, and advanced-level classes designed for glass enthusiasts to build their skills in the medium of their choosing. Recently, LSGA also announced a year-long "Glass O Competition", with each month focusing on creating glass art centered around a speci c themed challenge, eventually culminating in a Grand Finale and People's Choice showcase in Spring of 2026.

LSGA currently hosts two member glass art sales at McNally Art Studios each year, typically in May and November, and attends the Allied Arts Council Christmas Sale held at CASA in November. LSGA members also participate in other artisan markets and sales throughout the year. To learn more about LSGA, check out their classes, or become a member, join their regular meetings on the 4th Saturday of each month at the McNally Community Centre Studio - 210075 Township Rd 82, Lethbridge, AB T1K 8H3

SYNCHRONIZED SKATING

A Sport of Unity, Precision, and Performance

If you’re looking for a sport that combines the artistry of figure skating with the excitement of team performance, synchronized skating (often called synchro) may be the perfect fit. First developed in the 1950s, synchro has grown into a worldwide discipline with teams ranging from beginner to elite. Here’s what makes it stand out:

Teamwork on Ice: Teams of 8–20 skaters perform choreographed routines set to music, moving as one in formations such as circles, lines, blocks, and wheels.

Required Elements: Like singles or pairs skating, synchro has technical requirements— such as intersections, lifts, and spins—that are judged on execution, difficulty, and artistry. Precision and Speed: Skaters must maintain unison while performing complex transitions at high speeds, demanding both athleticism and focus.

Costumes and Expression: Performances combine sport with artistry, using music, choreography, and costumes to enhance the theme.

International Stage: Synchronized skating is recognized by the International Skating Union (ISU) and has its own World Championships, and hopes to one day be in the Olympic Winter Games.

A Sport for Every Level

From recreational teams that focus on fun and friendship to elite teams competing on the world stage, synchro welcomes skaters of many ages and abilities.

Why Try Synchronized Skating?

It builds skating skills, fosters teamwork, and creates lifelong friendships. Athletes learn discipline, rhythm, and trust while experiencing the thrill of performing together. While it is too late to join a team for this season, now is a great time to join a skating program at your level to get your skills ready!

Synchronized Skating in Lethbridge

Clubs - The Lethbridge Ice Angels representing Lethbridge Skating Club has 4 teams this year, including 2 adult teams

Rinks - The Cavendish Farms Centre is the home rink for synchronized skating practices in Lethbridge

Events - Teams will perform at the annual Toys for Tots Christmas show on December 8 and the year end carnival on March 28. This season, the teams will compete at Rosebowl in Calgary, and Mountain Regionals Championships in Edmonton.

Step onto the ice, join hands, and discover the power of moving as one!

BLOG

Tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) have surged in popularity recently, driven by media exposure, streaming and digital tools. The author began playing Dungeons & Dragons six years ago, became a dungeon master, and plans to explain TTRPG basics, history, benefits, and how to start.

Originating from mid-20th-century war gaming, TTRPGs evolved into D&D in 1974 and later diversified into systems emphasising storytelling and character development. Modern growth stems from digital tabletops, actual-play streams, and open licences that expanded content. Core elements include player characters, game masters, systems, and dice that introduce chance.

Playing TTRPGs supports creativity, social skills, empathy, problem-solving, literacy and numeracy. The author recommends selecting systems by age—D&D or Monster of the Week for 8+, Hero Kids for younger children—and suggests watching actualplay shows to learn. Above all, start small, focus on fun, be flexible, and ‘roll for initiative’. They offer meaningful, constructive play for youth and broader communities.
