LEVEL 1 AWARD IN TRAUMA-INFORMED

PARENTING PREPARATION ASSESSMENT FOR KINSHIP & CONNECTED CARE (TIPPAKC)

Qualification Benefits

This course aims to provide individuals with knowledge about childhood trauma, recognising its signs and symptoms, and how to support a child who is coming to live with them.

Additionally, it covers navigating the Kinship Care system and making learners aware of the available support and how to access it. Upon completion of the course, learners will receive certification for our Level 1 Award, which has been accredited by CACHE.

The qualification is mapped into TSD (England) and AWIF (Wales) requirements which can be evident throughout the courses and relevant workbooks the course provides learners with.

Accreditation & Certification

This qualification is accredited by the awarding body CACHE, once completed, learners will receive a certificate from CACHE.

Progression route

There is an opportunity to progress to the Level 2 Therapeutic Fostering qualification.

LEVEL 2 AWARD IN THERAPEUTIC FOSTERING (TFQ)

Duration

9-12 Months - 1-2 hours per week of study using an online learning platform.

Who is the Qualification for?

The Therapeutic Fostering qualification is aimed at foster parents and supporting professionals who work within the agency, and who support looked-after children that have suffered early life trauma through pre or postnatal stress, neglect, domestic violence, and/or abuse. It is used alongside the Therapeutic Fostering Assessment. (TFA)

Qualification Content

The programme includes 6 units which include: Gain an understanding of Developmental Trauma. Learn how to build the foundations of a trusting relationship.

Understand how to meet the needs of the growing and developing child.

Be able to create a SAfE Parenting Environment. Look deeper into safe parenting - Looking after ourselves. Explore the role of the professional therapeutic foster parent.

Mode of Learning

Learners have support from a programme tutor and peer support for their studies, through an online forum.

Please note: The qualifications are predominantly studied online through a learning platform; therefore, it is a prerequisite for applicants to be ICT/computer literate.

Therapeutic Parenting strategies, which will help them to develop a trusting relationship with their child, but they will also gain certification for our Level 2 Award in Therapeutic Fostering which is accredited by CACHE. Who is the Qualification for?

The Trauma-Informed Learning Support Level 2 Certifiate is aimed at Teachers, including Designated Teacher for Looked After and Previously Looked After Children, Learning Support Workers, Family Support Workers & staff in pastoral roles within education.

The programme includes 8 units which include:

SAfE Parenting – Building the foundations of a trusting relationship.

Meeting the Needs of the Growing and Developing Child.

Creating a SAfE Parenting Environment.

SAfE Parenting: Parental Compassion Fatigue. Understanding family life.

Working with parents and families.

Exploring the root cause of the child’s behaviour and implementing strategies to support emotional regulation.

Compassion Fatigue, taking care of yourself and others.

Mode of Learning

The qualifications are predominantly studied online through a learning platform; therefore, it is a prerequisite for applicants to be ICT/computer literate.

Qualification Benefits

Learners can work at their own pace, and this allows for the opportunity to work around other commitments. Learners will gain a knowledge on how to support children and their families education and care settings.

Certification

This qualification is certified by The Centre of Excellence in Child Trauma (CoECT). Once completed, learners will receive a certificate from The Centre of Excellence in Child Trauma

Progression route.

There is an opportunity to progress to the Level 3 Certificate in Trauma-Informed Parenting, the Level 3 Diploma in Therapeutic Parent Coaching or the Level 4 Diploma in Trauma-Informed Practice from this qualification.

4 months - approx. 2 hours per week of study using an online learning platform.

Who is the Therapeutic Parenting Programme for?

The SAfE Parenting Programme is aimed at parents looking after children who have experienced early life trauma, parents caring for a neurodivergent child and families who are accessing edge-of-care services. The qualification can be useful for parents embarking on the graduated pathway for an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).

The programme includes 4 units which include: Providing parents with underpinning knowledge of Therapeutic Parenting strategies.

Knowledge of how to build the foundations of a trusting relationship.

Understanding how to meet the needs of the growing and developing child.

Parental compassion fatigue - Looking after ourselves.

Who is the Trauma-Informed Parenting Programme for?

This Level 3 programme is aimed at all parents and can be effective in parenting children with varying needs. It is also aimed at Supporting Professionals who work with children and their families.

• Understanding Myself.

• Understanding Therapeutic Parenting.

• Understanding Disorders, Syndromes and Behaviours associated with Early Life Trauma.

• Initial Therapeutic Parenting Strategies.

• Advanced Therapeutic Parenting Strategies.

Mode of Learning

The programme is predominantly studied online through a learning platform; therefore, it is a prerequisite for applicants to be ICT/computer literate.

Programme Benefits

Parents and Supporting Professionals will learn the core principles of Trauma-Informed Parenting. This includes gaining an underpinning knowledge of Therapeutic Parenting and will be able to implement strategies learnt from the programme, in order to support their child into adulthood.

Certification

This qualification is certified by The Centre of Excellence in Child Trauma (CoECT). Once completed, learners will receive a certificate from The Centre of Excellence in Child Trauma.

Progression route.

On successful completion, learners can go onto the Level 3 Certificate in Trauma-Informed Life Story Work Qualification.

LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN THERAPEUTIC PARENT COACHING

Duration

12 months approx. Completing each unit within a 6- 8 week period.

Who is the Therapeutic Parent Coaching Qualification for?

Learners who wish to develop skills in supporting other parents to develop their skills in Therapeutic Parenting and to facilitate support groups. The Therapeutic Parenting Coaching is a customised qualification which helps the learner to understand the ways in which they can support parents and families using therapeutic parenting strategies and coaching tools.

This is recommended for learners who want to develop their knowledge of developmental trauma, therapeutic parenting and parent coaching in one qualification.

Qualification Content

The Level 3 Diploma in Therapeutic Parent Coaching includes 10 units. They include:

Understanding the Traumatised Child. Understanding Parents.

Develop knowledge and understanding of Therapeutic Parenting.

Exploring and understanding Syndromes, Disorders and Survival Behaviours associated with Developmental Trauma

Implementing initial therapeutic parenting strategies to heal children

Implementing advanced therapeutic parenting strategies to work towards positive outcomes for children with developmental trauma.

Understanding Family Life.

Understand Therapeutic Parenting in order to support parents in finding their own solutions. Promoting Resilience, Self-Development and Wellbeing in Parents and Children. Supporting Parents as a Therapeutic Parent Coach.

Mode of Learning

To achieve The Level 3 Diploma in Therapeutic Parent Coaching, learners will complete the units of study through our online learning platform, which includes video-based tuition and knowledge checks throughout to enable learners to complete the end-of-unit assessments.

Learners will be provided with tutor support throughout the qualification. A handbook, including all relevant information, will also be provided at the start of the course.

Qualification Benefits

This coaching qualification helps the learner to understand the ways in which they can support parents and families using therapeutic parenting strategies.

Accreditation & Certification

On completion of this Customised Qualification, learners will receive a certificate of achievement from CACHE. This certificate of achievement is not for a nationally regulated qualification.

This qualification is also accredited by the Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists (ACCPH) and eligible for membership in their association. For further details about the association and its membership fees, please visit www.accph.org.uk.

Progression route

This qualification can lead to the Level 4 Trauma-Informed Practitioner Qualification.

Who is the Therapeutic Parent Coaching Qualification for?

Who is the Trauma-Informed Life Story Work Qualification for?

The qualification is aimed at supporting professionals (social workers, family support workers, children’s support workers, and therapists) who support children, young people, and their families to navigate the often challenging process of life story work.

Qualification Content

The Level 3 Certificate in Trauma-Informed Life Story Work consists of six units:

Unit 1 Understanding the Importance of Trauma-Informed Life Story Work. This unit explains the concept of traumainformed life story work and how it can support individuals who have experienced trauma.

Unit 2 Making sense of the child’s history: This unit emphasises the importance of communicating a child or young person's story in a way that is appropriate for their stage of development.

Unit 3 Understanding the child or young person: Here, the learners will understand the importance of recognising a child's emotional age and implementing appropriate life story work, as well as the need to identify the implications of unprocessed trauma when working with a child's life story.

Unit 4 Communicating difficult histories: This unit develops learners understanding of how to navigate a child or young person's life narrative sensitively, identifying strategies to help them recognise unmet needs, and overcome obstacles.

Accreditation & Certification

Our course has been accredited by NCFE CACHE, an awarding organisation recognised by the qualification regulators for England and Wales. NCFE CACHE’s regulators are the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) in England and the Welsh Government in Wales.

This course isn’t regulated by Ofqual but has been accredited by NCFE CACHE as a Customised Qualification. We have benchmarked the course’s learning outcomes at Level 3 (using a notional framework’s level descriptors) to allow you to consider the difficulty and depth of study.

Who is the Trauma-Informed Practitioner Diploma for?

The Level 4 Trauma-Informed Practitioner Diploma is for individuals who work within the Social Care and Therapy sector. The qualification provides learners with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills when working with families whose children have experienced early-life trauma and have complex needs.

This qualification aims to support the long-term success of families in fostering and adoption and will promote strong working partnerships between social work teams, therapists, and parents.

The Level 4 Trauma-Informed Practitioner Diploma consists of units covering the following:

Trauma-Informed Practitioner: Understanding and Supporting Children and Families

Understanding behaviour as a mode of communication

The Therapeutic Parenting Approach

Understanding and Addressing Unmet Needs in Children through Therapeutic Parenting and Trauma-Informed Care

The link between early life trauma and offending behaviour in later life.

Navigating Transitions: Trauma-Informed Support for Children During Visitations and Planned Moves

Collaborative Resilience: Trauma-Informed Practices and Compassionate Teamwork

Therapeutic Approaches: Enhancing Child Well-Being and Family Stability

Mode of Learning

To achieve the Trauma-Informed Practitioner Diploma , learners will complete a combination of in-person training, live online training and units of study through our online learning platform, which comprises video-based tuition and knowledge checks throughout to enable learners to complete the end-of-unit assessments.

Learners will receive tutor and peer support through a forum on the learning platform. A handbook, including all relevant information, will also be provided at the start of the course.

Training Days

There are five training days that learners need to attend to complete the qualification. These include both in-person and live online training. Further details will be provided upon enrolment.

The learners must be working in Social Care or a Therapeutic Setting in order to complete the qualification.
