LEVEL 2 THERAPEUTIC FOSTERING (TFQ)

Overview The Therapeutic Fostering Programme is a Level 2 qualification designed to support foster carers and professionals working with children who have experienced early life trauma.

Flexible online learning, the programme equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to provide a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic home environment.

The course supports the learner to understand the underlying causes of behaviour and respond thoughtfully rather than reactively.

Who This Course Is For This course is ideal for Applicants who are applying to become Foster Parents.

Current Foster parents supporting children who have experienced trauma Supporting Professionals, working within Fostering agencies The programme forms part of the Therapeutic Fostering Assessment (TFA).

What You Will Learn Across six structured units, you will explore: Understanding developmental trauma and its impact Building safe, secure, and trusting relationships Supporting the needs of the growing and developing child Creating a SAfE therapeutic parenting environment Recognising the importance of self-care and managing compassion fatigue Understanding the role of the professional therapeutic foster parent Guided Online Learning Six structured units delivered through a flexible online platform, allowing for self-paced study.

Study Commitment Duration: 3–6 months Approximately 1–2 hours per week Around 60 hours total study time Flexible, self-paced online learning Mode of Learning Delivered predominantly via an online learning platform Please note: Learners must be confident in using ICT/computer-based systems.

This qualification is accredited by the Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists (ACCPH) and supports eligibility for membership with the association.

Overview This comprehensive programme is designed to equip practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver trauma-informed Life Story Work with children and young people.

Combining flexible online learning, a live specialist training day, and an assessed portfolio, this course supports both deep understanding and meaningful application in professional settings.

Who This Course Is For This course is ideal for: Social workers Foster carers and adoptive parents Residential childcare practitioners Family support workers Therapeutic practitioners Education and pastoral staff What You Will Learn Across six structured units, you will explore: Foundations of trauma-informed Life Story Work Supporting identity, narrative, and sense of self Understanding the impact of developmental trauma Communicating difficult histories safely and sensitively Recognising and responding to triggers and behaviours Reflective practice and practitioner self-care Certification On successful completion, you will receive an ACCPH-accredited certificate in Trauma-Informed Life Story Work.
