I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
In the Gospel passage that we proclaimed today, Jesus gives us the example of the branches unable to give fruits without being united to the vine. Jesus taught us that He is the true vine, His Father is the vine grower, and we are the branches. Vines and vineyards had, through the Jewish tradition, represented the abundance of the fruits from the earth From the beginning of times, Jewish people had been compared to a vineyard. As a consequence of Jesus' ministry, attention would be placed not in being part of the chosen people, but in the intimate relationship between Jesus, the true vine, and us His branches. Today, Jesus points to the fact that it is by faith in Him, and not by being part of the chosen people, that we walk on the path of salvation.
The gospel tells us also how the unproductive branches, those that do not produce any fruit, will be cut and thrown into the fire. But it also affirmed that the vine grower will prune all those productive ones. Today, we need to meditate on those moments when we have been unexpectedly pruned, and how other pruning had come as the result of our maturing process. In other words, we have always been in a constant process of being pruned.
Today, as we approach the Eucharist, the thanksgiving action per excellence, let us be open to recognize the infinite richness that we have received through our whole lives. Let us recognize life, health, our daily bread, our family, our community, and all the gifts that we have already received out of pure love. Let ask the Lord to prune them, to resurrect them for the benefit of our neighbor Let us recognize that it would be only by being united to our values, to our principles, to our families, to our communities; in other words, united to Jesus the true vine that we would be able to produce abundant fruits, the kind of fruits that will last for eternal life!

En el evangelio que proclamamos hoy, Jesús nos pone el ejemplo del sarmiento que no puede dar fruto por sí mismo si no permanece unido a la vid. Jesús dice que Él es la vid verdadera, que su Padre es el viñador, y que nosotros somos los sarmientos. Los viñedos y la vid han simbolizado, desde el AT, la abundancia de los frutos terrenales. El pueblo de Israel había sido desde siempre equiparado con una vid. Como resultado de las enseñanzas de Jesús, la atención no estará más centrada en el hecho de ser el pueblo elegido, sino en la relación íntima entre Jesús, la vid, y nosotros sus sarmientos. A partir de ahora, Jesús deja claramente establecido que es la fe en Él, y no el linaje de Israel, el verdadero camino hacia la salvación.
El evangelio relata también cómo las ramas improductivas, aquellas que no dan fruto, son siempre cortadas. Pero también afirma que el viñador poda aquellas que dan fruto para que estas den más. Hoy nos toca reflexionar como algunas podas llegan inesperadamente en nuestras vidas, y como algunas otras vienen gradualmente conforme maduramos. En otras palabras, siempre estaremos en necesidad de ser podados.
Al acudir hoy a la Eucaristía, la máxima acción de gracias a nuestro alcance, abramos hoy nuestros corazones a reconocer toda la infinita riqueza que hemos recibido inmerecidamente a través de nuestra existencia. Reconozcamos el infinito valor de la vida, de la salud, de la familia, de la comunidad, de nuestro sustento. Demos gracias a Dios por todos los dones que hemos recibido, pidámosle que los pode siempre para poder devolverlos cada día, siempre con más frutos, y en favor de nuestros semejantes. Aceptemos que es solo permaneciendo unidos a Jesucristo la vid verdadera, unidos a nuestros principios, a nuestras familias, a nuestros valores, que podremos dar frutos verdaderos,¡frutos que perduren para la vida eterna!

Thầy Là Cây Nho Thật, Và Cha Thầy Là Người Trồng Nho.
Tin Mừng mà chúng ta công bố hôm nay, Đức Giêsu cho chúng ta ví dụ về những cành nho không thể sinh trái nếu không kết hợp với cây nho Đức Giêsu dạy chúng ta rầng Ngài là cây nho thật, Cha Ngài là Người trồng nho, và chúng ta là những cành nho. Theo truyền thống Do Thái, Những cây nho và các vườn nho biểu tượng cho sự phong phú đầy tràn những hoa trái trên mặt đất. Từ thủa ban đầu, dân Do Thái đã được ví như là một vườn nho. Theo như kết qủa mà Chúa Giêsu rao giảng, điều đáng chú ý không nằm ở chỗ thuộc về dân được tuyển chọn, nhưng ở trong mối quan hệ mật thiết giữa Đức Giêsu, là cây nho thật, và chúng ta là những cành nho. Hôm nay, Đức Giêsu khẳng định rằng chính bởi tin vào Ngài, chứ không phải vì thuộc thành phần dân được tuyển chọn,mà chúng ta được cứu độ.
Tin Mừng cũng cho chúng ta thấy những cành nho không sinh trái sẽ ra sao, những cành không sinh trái nào sẽ bị cắt và ném vào lửa. Nhưng Tin Mừng cũng khẳng định rằng người trồng nho sẽ cắt tỉa những cành sinh nhiều trái. Hôm nay, chúng ta cần suy tư về những lúc chúng ta bất ngờ bị cắt tỉa, và cách thức mà những cắt tỉa khác xẩy đến như là kết qủa của một tiến trình trưởng thành cho chúng ta. Nói cách khác, chúng ta luôn luôn ở trong một tiến trình thường xuyên được cắt tỉa.
Hôm nay, Khi đến tham dự phụng vụ Thánh Thể, một hành động tạ ơn tuyệt hảo, chúng ta hãy mở lòng để nhận biết sự phong phú vô biên mà chúng ta đang lãnh nhận trong suốt cuộc sống của mình. Hãy nhận biết rằng sự sống, sức khỏe, lương thực hằng ngày, gia đình, cộng đồng, và tất cả những ơn hụê mà chúng ta đã lãnh nhận hoàn toàn phát xuất từ tình yêu. Hãy xin Chúa cắt tỉa chúng, phục sinh chúng để sinh ích lợi cho những người lân cận của chúng ta. Hãy nhận ra rằng cần phải gắn bó với những điều giá trị, với những nguyên tắc, với các gia đình, và với các cộng đồng của mình; nói cách khác, được liên kết với Đức Giêsu là cây nho thật, chúng ta sẽ có thể sinh nhiều trái, là thứ trái sẽ đem lại sự sống đời đời!
