BOARD CHAIR
We are back to another busy season at the Chandler Chamber as we work on several signature events. Our Annual Golf tournament at Ocotillo Golf Resort was a huge success with a full course. This tournament raises funds for the Chandler Chamber Community Foundation which provides scholarships to students pursuing their college education, so we truly appreciate your support. Special thank you goes to the Golf Committee that put it together, and especially all the sponsors that attended and donated raffle prizes.
One of the Chamber’s signature events is right around the corner–The Chandler 100. Chamber staff has spent hours compiling data about the top Chandler companies in order to create a one-of-a-kind event recognizing
their contributions to the economic success of our city. You are probably familiar with several of our top employers, but as our city grows, we continue to attract new employers and smaller companies gain traction and numbers. This is your chance to meet and learn more about all of them. This is the business event of the season for Chandler and I hope to see you there.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything the Chamber orBoard can do to help you grow!

Collaboration Promotes Job Opportunities for Displaced Workers
By: Mayor Kevin Hartke
General Motors’ announcement to close its GM Innovation Center this month came as a surprise to us and their workforce. However, we wasted no time and developed a rapid response team in collaboration with the Chandler Chamber and regional partners in the East Valley to assist these displaced workers.
We met with General Motors and Arizona @ Work to identify resources they could provide impacted workers. Those resources include career counseling, job search assistance, resume preparation, training opportunities and assistance with housing, utility and unemployment.
Regional coordination involving the cities and chambers in Chandler, Gilbert and Mesa targeted area employers and provided lists of displaced workers for talent acquisition purposes. Area employers provided links to job openings and Chandler promoted these opportunities to displaced workers through digital platforms. A job fair was held in late September at Chandler-Gilbert Community College to directly connect area employers with displaced workers.
Our economic development team also met with General Motors to discuss future office space needs for remaining employees. We also met with the property owner to prepare for the soon to be vacant space and engaged real estate brokers in the technology and software industries for business attraction purposes.
Fortunately, these types of announcements don’t happen that often. It’s important for Chandler Chamber members to have knowledge of the rapid response and resources available to support these talented workers, the company and the property owner when news like this occurs.
The Price Corridor is our largest employment area and it’s a destination for many companies. Bechtel, Titan Solar and Yield Engineering Systems have all recently established operations in the corridor. There will be more companies announcing their presence in the Price Corridor in the future too.
A talented workforce and employment opportunities make Chandler an attractive marketplace for companies and workers. High-tech manufacturing, information technology and software, aerospace and aviation, healthcare and bioscience, and advanced business and financial services continue to be the industries targeted. I appreciate the regional collaboration and partnership with the Chandler Chamber and our counterparts in other East Valley cities that make these efforts successful.

Mayors Youth Commisson
Earlier this year, Jackson Heinkel, a 17-year-old senior at Arizona College Prep and a dedicated volunteer intern for the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, had the opportunity to represent Chandler by participating in the Arizona League of Cities through the Mayor’s Youth Commission. He has been actively involved in various Chamber activities, including supporting the Chandler Ostrich Festival and day-to-day operations.
In June, we were pleased to recommend Jackson for appointment to the Mayor’s Youth Commission, where he will gain firsthand experience in government work and advocate for the needs of Chandler’s teens. During the League conference, Jackson and the commission met with the Mayor and Council, learned strategies for community change, and brainstormed ideas to support Chandler’s youth. We are excited for Jackson’s contributions to our community and hope he continues to make a positive impact in Chandler.

ASU’s CareerCatalyst ignites growth for Arizona’s small businesses
Chandler Chamber, Arizona city chambers of commerce And WESTMARC bring the innovative AZ Small Business Workforce Education Program to their members
In the heart of Arizona’s economic landscape, small businesses employ over one million people, comprising 43% of the state’s private workforce. But let’s face it: the conventional paths to upskilling can be too expensive and time-consuming. A robust workforce development program can seem out of reach for many organizations.
Arizona State University is offering a more accessible option. To bolster small businesses, ASU CareerCatalyst has launched the AZ Small Business Workforce Education program, providing flexible programs for workers to develop the skills they need to succeed in their careers. The new program supports businesses and workers at every career stage — from entrylevel to executive, across job roles and industries. As pilot partners of the initiative, WESTMARC and Chamber of Commerce organizations in Scottsdale, Peoria and Chandler are serving as ASU CareerCatalyst’s link to Arizona’s small businesses. Sustaining a strong workforce is one of the primary goals these organizations have in common. They recognize the importance of developing a competitive labor environment that adapts to changing workforce needs. To support this aim, they’re offering the AZ Small
Business Workforce Education program as a benefit to their members, embedding access to CareerCatalyst’s workforce education in their specific communities. “We’re proud to partner with these organizations to advance their local workforces,” says Meredyth Hendricks, associate vice president of ASU’s CareerCatalyst. “This partnership aims to create a launchpad for continuous professional development that transcends industries and job functions. As individual employees gain valuable knowledge that fuels their career progression, businesses benefit from having a more skilled workforce. It’s a win-win.”
ASU CareerCatalyst taps into the expertise of a worldclass global research university to offer an integrated portfolio of job-relevant education. Small businesses and their employees can choose from a wide variety of programs providing skills development and certification for in-demand roles, from technical skills education in project management and data analytics to a broad range of professional “soft skills” education programs.
With this spotlight on Arizona’s small businesses, ASU is playing a significant role in equipping and empowering the State to stay at the forefront of economic progress. Growth isn’t just a destination for these businesses; it’s a collaborative journey through continual learning.
Arizona Chamber of Commerce organizations and small business associations are invited to join this program. Learn more and sign up at the CareerCatalyst AZ Small Business Workforce Education

Are you tired of trying to figure out how to navigate your way through the murky waters of government contracting? If so, this is the workshop for you.
The Essentials of Government Contracting workshop provides small businesses with the critical information and knowledge needed to begin their journey through the world of government contracting successfully. This workshop is unique because, unlike other government contracting workshops, this workshop is taught from the “vendor’s” perspective rather than the “government’s” perspective. In this hands-on workshop, you
will learn:
• The ins and outs and dos and don’ts of government contracting.
• How to get started.
• Understanding and responding to solicitations (i.e., Request for Proposals).
Please join us for this special event on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at ASU Innovation Center located at 249 E. Chicago Street, Chandler, AZ. 85225. The workshop fee is $25. Lunch is provided. Seats are limited; therefore, prompt registration is highly recommended.
Please Note: You are encouraged to bring a laptop or device that will allow you to access the various websites we will be viewing and discussing in the workshop. Also, having a device that can scan QR codes will be helpful.
