Community Update

During this time of widespread uncertainty, the Chamber recognizes the community’s growing concerns regarding the ever-evolving political landscape. We acknowledge that today’s political decisions and actions have a direct impact on local businesses, families, and the community at large.

As an invested advocate for Chandler, the Chamber dedicates its time in amplifying the voices of our community and addressing all relevant concerns. To better understand the needs and perspectives of our residents, we host the How We Stand Roundtables. This event offers an open invitation to all who wish to participate in providing an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation around Chandler’s legislative agenda.

Your voice helps guide Chandler’s advocacy and policy efforts. If you’re willing to share your perspective on Chandler’s priorities, join us at the Roundtables this June in conversation and community.

What is the General Plan?

Cities don’t grow by accident; they grow by design. Every 10 years, according to Arizona State Statute, Chandler’s mayor and city council are required to develop a proposal to outline the city’s growth and land use plan.

Referred to as the General Plan, this document serves as a blueprint for how best to manage community needs and support long-term economic and community development.

If you’ve ever been curious about how decisions are made regarding housing, parks, roadways, and businesses, the general plan process details how this document is formed and why it matters.

What is the General Plan?

Arizona law mandates that cities and towns outline a long-term vision for community development, including economic opportunity, environmental sustainability, housing needs, and the use of community resources. The city evaluates these topics within the framework of both current population and future population growth projections.

Decade over decade, the process allows city officials to identify and understand growth patterns over a period of time. The elements of the general plan are not only under consideration by the mayor and council, as input is also solicited from other community leaders to better understand the diverse needs of Chandler’s growing population. These individuals help form the Resident Advisory Committee, providing the mayor and council with various perspectives on how to address the city’s current and future needs.

A Top Destination for Small Business Success

Chandler is a city built on innovation, partnership and opportunity. Our reputation as one of the best cities in the nation to start and grow a small business is no accident. It’s the result of years of proactive leadership, a businessfriendly culture and a shared commitment to fostering entrepreneurship.

At the heart of this effort is the strong and enduring partnership between the City of Chandler and the Chandler Chamber of Commerce. Together, we champion policies and programs that make it easier for small businesses and entrepreneurs to open their doors, access critical resources and grow with confidence.

We offer the lowest sales tax in Arizona and one of the Valley’s lowest combined costs of services and taxes. We have lowered our property tax rates for 10 consecutive years while maintaining high-quality city services. Businesses of all sizes benefit from our sound financial stewardship and our commitment to streamlining processes, reducing red tape and promoting transparency.

Our city’s strategic location in the Phoenix area gives businesses strong market access, allowing them to connect easily with customers, suppliers and partners throughout the region. With a robust infrastructure that supports logistics, communications, water and utilities, companies can rely on the systems that power modern business.

Equally important is our educated and skilled workforce, bolstered by high performing public schools and graduates of universities and trade programs. Chandler’s talent pool continues to draw both startups and established companies looking to innovate and scale.

Whether it’s a tech startup looking for collaborative coworking space or a familyowned business seeking a traditional storefront, Chandler offers a diverse range of commercial properties to meet every business need.

Our proactive leadership is focused on long-term success. We actively seek out and support businesses that align with our community’s goals, and we are committed to keeping Chandler a place where small businesses can thrive.

The City of Chandler and the Chamber of Commerce are united in our mission: to make our city a premier business destination. If you’re looking to start or grow a business, there’s no place like Chandler. Together, we are building a stronger, more vibrant economy, one small business at a time.

Perry High School DECA Earns National Recognition

and Top State Ranking

Perry High School’s DECA chapter has earned prestigious recognition, finishing as the number one operational chapter in Arizona and number three in the entire nation. DECA, formerly known as Distributive Education Clubs of America, is a global association that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for college and careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.

This achievement reflects the dedication and excellence of Perry’s students and advisors. The chapter has also been honored with DIAMOND level status—the highest level of recognition awarded in Arizona.

Further showcasing their success, Perry DECA’s 20 graduating seniors have collectively earned more than $201,966 in scholarships to continue their education, proving that hard work in leadership and business education pays off.

WaFd Bank Shifts Focus from Mortgages to Small Business & Commercial Lending

After over 100 years of making home loans, we are exiting the single-family mortgage lending market . Our aim is to always offer products and services to our customers where WaFd Bank can add value, and we have concluded that we no longer do so in the mortgage sector. Through our involvement in the PPP program during the Pandemic, we have seen just how important small business is to us, and to the communities we serve, and how underserved many small businesses are when it comes to their banking needs. Technology is excellent and abundant; what small businesses need is a trusted advisor to help them navigate complex financial matters and exercise professional skepticism. We aim to fill that need. Going forward, in addition to serving consumers, WaFd will concentrate its focus, offerings and efforts on business banking and commercial real estate lending. We will also begin offering SBA lending products that will allow us to broaden our offerings for small businesses.

Grand Canyon University develops more trade pathways to address workforce shortages

Grand Canyon University (GCU) is ramping up its efforts to address labor gaps in the Greater Phoenix area by expanding its successful Center for Workforce Development. The university is launching new pathways in Construction Trades and Manufacturing Specialist Intensive (MSI), building on its existing offerings that include a Pre-Apprenticeship Pathway for Electricians and a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist Pathway.

The newly introduced Construction Trades General Pathway is a collaboration with McCarthy Building Companies. This program will focus on five key areas within the construction industry: electrical, HVAC, concrete, mechanical and civil infrastructure. Students enrolled in this pathway will take related coursework over two semesters, earning 24 transferable college credit hours while gaining hands-on experience. Participants will also have opportunities to advance into apprenticeships and full-time positions within McCarthy.

Additionally, GCU is partnering with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to offer a 15week MSI program beginning in the fall. This program combines classroom instruction with job shadowing opportunities, preparing students for in-demand roles in the semiconductor manufacturing sector.

The GCU Center for Workforce Development’s innovative and flexible apprenticeships and non-degree programs create additional pathways for those who may not be able to obtain a four-year degree. Combined with GCU’s priority of educating teachers and nurses across the country through its ground and online baccalaureate and graduate programs, the university is bolstering Arizona’s workforce by addressing the ongoing labor shortages that plague not only the state, but the entire country. There is a critical need for skilled labor in the workforce. GCU is working as an industry problem-solver by addressing economic development through programs to educate new nurses, teachers, electricians and machinists. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook (BLS) estimates job growth for the construction labor industry to increase nearly 5% in the next 10 years, creating 663,500 jobs within the industry.

Ambassadors

June 2025 Ambassador of the month

Chuck Wolf

Caring Transitions

My name is Chuck Wolf, and I am the owner of Caring Transitions of Central Arizona.  I am married to my lovely partner in business as well, Tina Patterson.  Together we have six boys, and a dog. We live in Chandler but are originally from California.

I really enjoy being a member of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce and have met several great people.  I am the Ambassadors Chair, and I am very excited to be a part of such a great group. I am also a member of the Board of Directors, I am excited to be a part of this group to help the Chamber continue to grow and prosper.

June 2025

Outstanding Ambassadors

Chandler Chamber Ambassador are highly visible volunteers in the East Valley business community. Ambassadors mentor new members, assist in recruiting and retention efforts, and volunteer at Chamber functions such as Ribbon Cuttings, Networking Events and the Ostrich Festival.
