Welcome to the December edition of REACH magazine! “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.” Isaiah 9:2 Dear friends, More than 700 years before Jesus was born, the Lord spoke through his prophet Isaiah, who foretold of the coming of the Messiah. During his lifetime, Isaiah prophesied several times about the coming of the Saviour of the world, and about His second coming. In Isaiah 7:14 the Lord spoke though him, announcing: “The Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’)”. About 700 years later, Jesus was born into the world and this prophecy became reality. Then, in chapter 9, Isaiah speaks about a time of darkness and the coming of a great light. Here he again refers to Jesus, who is the Light of this world. In the new testament, in the book of John 1:5 it says: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” The theme of this Reach Magazine is “Hope was born that night”. Today, the Lord wants to remind us of His presence with us despite the darkness that we see around us. Jesus is the light of this world, and the darkness can never overcome it! Despite a global pandemic that changes the way we live and interact with each other; God remains the same and He is with us through it all! Let hope arise as through Jesus, we have a relationship with God our Father, and we have a glorious future with Him! Let hope arise in the challenging situations that you face today. Let us not shrink back from sharing that living hope inside of us with our neighbours, family, friends and even strangers this Christmas season. Immanuel - God with us!
