Welcome to the December edition of REACH magazine!

“The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.” Isaiah 9:2 Dear friends, More than 700 years before Jesus was born, the Lord spoke through his prophet Isaiah, who foretold of the coming of the Messiah. During his lifetime, Isaiah prophesied several times about the coming of the Saviour of the world, and about His second coming.

In Isaiah 7:14 the Lord spoke though him, announcing: “The Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’)”. About 700 years later, Jesus was born into the world and this prophecy became reality.

Then, in chapter 9, Isaiah speaks about a time of darkness and the coming of a great light. Here he again refers to Jesus, who is the Light of this world. In the new testament, in the book of John 1:5 it says: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”

The theme of this Reach Magazine is “Hope was born that night”. Today, the Lord wants to remind us of His presence with us despite the darkness that we see around us. Jesus is the light of this world, and the darkness can never overcome it!

Despite a global pandemic that changes the way we live and interact with each other; God remains the same and He is with us through it all! Let hope arise as through Jesus, we have a relationship with God our Father, and we have a glorious future with Him! Let hope arise in the challenging situations that you face today. Let us not shrink back from sharing that living hope inside of us with our neighbours, family, friends and even strangers this Christmas season. Immanuel - God with us!

The Gift of Christ’s Coming An unending supply of God’s presence and encouragement Centuries before Christ was born, the prophet Isaiah foretold much about Him. At Christmas, we often read his amazing prophecy about the virgin who would conceive and bear a Son.

promised in Joel 2:28, “I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh.” His Holy Spirit abides in us, and Hebrews 13:5 declares, For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Isaiah 11:2 prophesies that the Spirit of God would rest upon the coming Messiah—giving us a wonderful picture of Jesus: The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

We may go through periods when we have great faith and a strong sense of anointing, then seem to dry up.

Yet God hasn’t left us; we’ve allowed ourselves to become parched and dry.

It’s incredible to think that the Spirit who rests upon Jesus is given to everyone who follows Him! As God

What’s the remedy? Isaiah 12:2-3 tells us: “Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.” Therefore with joy you will draw water from the

wells of salvation.

This is the prophetic backdrop of Jesus at the Water Festival. Every year, people would draw water from the pool of Siloam, bring it to the Temple Mount, pour it out at the altar, and say, “Let us draw water from the wells of salvation.”

John 7:37-39 records how Jesus cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive.

The whole reason we celebrate Christmas is that God has become our salvation. You can trust Him. If you’re discouraged or overwhelmed, He says, “Come and drink.” And as you spend time with Him at the well, you will receive your strength, your song, your salvation, and the answer to every human need. Merry Christmas!

This year has without a doubt been one of the most challenging years since we launched the CBN ministry in South East Europe. The pandemic has changed how we operate and particularly impacted our planned Superbook and humanitarian outreach events. Nonetheless, God has been so good in helping us to adapt to the challenges whilst remaining effective advancing His Kingdom in this region!

We are in the process of publishing season 4 of Superbook in German and are looking forward to seeing many people experience Superbook adventures with Chris, Joy and Gizmo while getting to know Biblical stories and learning more about Jesus. The “Book of Hope” has been translated into German and is in publishing phase. Please pray with us that these incredible tools will help people of any age get to know Jesus.

Through this season, sharing hope and light, we continue to see open doors for Superbook through our online ministry. With an online textbook to resource schools and churches in Croatia and the wider region.

We are working in partnership with 21 churches in Croatia to distribute food and hygiene parcels to vulnerable families who are currently struggling.

We distributed food parcels to the homeless and are helping a Roma community in Zagreb to see lives changed and impacted.

Thank you CBN partners for helping us to change so many lives in the former Yugoslavia region, enabling our teams to share the Good News of Jesus! We pray His rich blessings over you in 2021!

This December we are celebrating a very special anniversary: it has been 4 years since we started publishing Erlebt Magazine and the 24th issue has been released!

Erlebt Magazine is filled with inspiring and encouraging stories and articles to inspire relationship with God. We are thankful for the increasing number of readers and their positive feedback.

We pray that the readers of this issue will also be strengthened in their faith and that, especially now in the Advent season, they will remember what the real meaning of this holiday is and why we really celebrate Christmas.

CBN MOLDOVA & ROMANIA December is the most magical month of the year! But it can be easy to forget the essence of that night when ‘hope’ was born, the greatest gift for mankind! Understanding the depth of this gift, we have the power to face any valley of the shadow of death. Leaving behind 2020 and stepping into the unknown of 2021.

In the midst of a difficult year, for me 2020 has been a year of peace and order. I have managed to put my mind in order, to have order in collaborations, tasks and in the administration of CBN Moldova. This year God has poured out so much love on me. In the midst of the pandemic I joined the CBN Europe family and started a new chapter, with challenges that cultivate a new leader and servant in me every day.

We have put the accounting in order and registered the NGO through which we will manage CBN work in Moldova.

We have also produced Superbook Academy in Romanian which will be a huge blessing to churches in Moldova!

In 2020 I felt loved and helped by the hand of the Almighty more than ever!

A 2021 full of more hope, more miracles and more love is definitely coming.

CBN UK & IRELAND Hope was born that night As we approach Christmas and with that the end of another year - a milestone. One can’t help but reflect on what the year has brought and with that an expectation for all that the festive season brings; Gifts, family, food laughter – peace and good will to all mankind…

The partner premium is “The Name of God”. The standout name for me in 2020 is Jehovah Shammah – The ever present one. A reminder of the hope that was born to Mary & Joseph that eventful & exhausting night at the stable in Bethlehem. I am grateful that still today, God speaks reassuringly to us His children. JEHOVAH SHAMMAH: The ever present one, He has taken care of our past, He is always in our present, He waits for us in our future, I will not be afraid. The Lord is ALWAYS there.

OPERATION BLESSING EUROPE This summer, our director Ron Oates retired after working for over 25 years with Operation Blessing. I can never forget Ron’s statement about the importance of sharing the Gospel through everything we do. He said: “A bowl of rice is no substitute for the Gospel”. Everything we do is for Him, because of Him and to bring glory to Him. We want to see lives restored, impacted and made whole because of the transformational power of the Gospel in every man, woman and child.

2020 has been a challenging year for all of us because of Covid-19. Yet, the Lord has helped us to quickly adapt our teams in the field and focus on bringing relief during the pandemic.

Through our Hope in Action Initiative, the UK teams worked with local churches and partners to deliver food parcels, blessing hundreds of families and individuals. Every Hope box contains nutrious food, hygiene supplies and resources that share the Good News of Jesus to every family.

We will soon be launching the first UK Operation Blessing distribution centre with a community project, reaching the isolated and vulnerable.

What Does the Bible Teach about the Jewish People and the Nation of Israel?

The nation of Israel is unique in the role God chose for it. In the creation there was Adam, and then there was Noah who survived the Flood. From Noah’s child, Shem, came a family out of which was born a man named Abram (Abraham). He was called by God to journey to a foreign land, which is now Palestine. God said to him, “In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:3). From Abraham came Isaac and then Jacob, later called “Israel.” From Jacob came twelve sons whose families became the twelve tribes comprising the nation of Israel.

To this nation was given the revelation of God, His nature, His laws, and His history. Israel was entrusted with the Bible, and because of these people all the nations of the earth have been blessed.

But the greatest blessing by far that was entrusted to Israel was the bringing forth of the Messiah who would die for the sins of mankind, to restore man to the fellowship with God that he lost at the Fall. For two thousand years the children of Abraham were sheltered, set apart from the nations, and instructed in the ways of God. Then in what the Bible calls “the fullness of time,” God sent to the Jewish people Jesus of Nazareth, who was the Messiah or “anointed one”-the Christ (see Galatians 4:4). The message of His coming, His death, and His resurrection has been the true means whereby all the nations of the world have been blessed.

The people of Israel are still precious to God. The Old Testament promised that the nation of Israel would be restored in the last times (see Ezekiel 11:17). This prophecy was fulfilled in 1948. Even though Israel was destroyed and its people scattered abroad because of their unbelief, God said He would rebuild the nation just prior to the end of the age. At the climax of history the Israelis will turn to God, and the nation will once again become a center of God’s revelation to all mankind (see Zechariah 12:10). The law will go forth from Jerusalem, and all the nations will come to Jerusalem to learn the law of the Lord (see Isaiah 2:2-3).

At that time, the natural sons of Abraham will be exalted, along with those who, through faith in Jesus Christ, have become sons of Abraham after the Spirit. OUT OF UNCERTAINTY, PROMISE If ever there was a year of uncertainty, this is it.

‘others’ decided what we can do and where we can go.

All the questions - ‘what ifs’, ‘don’t knows’, ‘not sures’ - and the reality that our lives aren’t really under our control (even when we are used to being told that they are). We’re told that our destinies are under our own control, based on decisions we make.

We hear that positive thinking will produce great things, limitations will be removed from our lives, we can make anything possible and become whatever we would like to be.

For me, the focus has been taken off of my own self-centred desires and redirected back to God Himself. He has been my anchor in the storm, focus in confusion, comfort in distress and hope in darkest places. The knowledge that life and death is in the Creator’s hands and that our trust can be solely in Him has been my lifeline.

A gift that is eternal

I don’t know about you but, this year, none of those suggestions have been of much help.

It has been a year when control was taken from us to a great extent and

As we approach the year’s end our focus shifts to a moment in time when our planet welcomed the most precious, treasured gift it has ever been given. This beats any vaccine, any cure, any career, thrill or fitness regime and food. This is a gift that is eternal, forever, never ending.

There is no other that can offer this

satisfaction, creativity, vision, or love.

This gift is Jesus, our Promise, the one the Earth waited to welcome from the beginning of time. Jesus our Saviour, our Redeemer. He gives us hope and said, ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.’ (John 14 1-3, NIV) An amazing promise, that this Jesus who appeared to the world as a little baby, became the very same one who promises to prepare a place for us in His heavenly kingdom. A place full of joy, peace and laughter, where there is no more sorrow or pain or sickness, no more Covid-19 or death. A place where angels continually praise our God. We see a small reflection of this

in our Christmas carols with ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’, ‘Joy to the World’ and ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’.

It is a place where the ‘Silent Night’ of Christmas becomes a day without end and where the light of our Lord and Saviour fills our vision. There will be no silence but unending music, singing and dancing.

So, this Christmas as we reflect upon the past, the parties we would normally be going to, the large family gatherings many would have had and now an expectation of a ‘quieter one’ this coming season, remember that in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ there is an endless Christmas party.

Later, there will be Heaven, where all the promises of God and His Word are fulfilled and there is joy everlasting.

Q.

What exactly is our role in salvation?

In the Bible, the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 2:12-13, “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (kvj).

He is urging us to build on our salvation by not yielding to our sinful desires. But we depend on Him. That’s His will and that pleases Him. There’s a partnership between God and us and it’s mentioned in the Bible.

Acts 15:28 says, “It seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things” (kjv). We’re working together with the Holy Spirt to draw closer to God and not just remaining stagnant in our salvation. That salvation was bought by Jesus when He died for our sins. It was His gift to us.

What do we do with that gift? As we live with Him over time, we’re working with the Holy Spirit, being made in the image of Christ.

And then, we become more and more like Him. We’re participating, developing from one degree of glory to the other

The Orphan’s Promise Gypsy Project in Bulgaria provides a holistic approach to changing the lifestyle and worldview of the children we care for. Our aims are to draw the children into a personal relationship with Jesus and disciple them so that they understand the new life to which He calls them to.

We also aim to improve the nutritional health of the children, raise their selfesteem and encourage them to continue their education through high school and beyond. We work on the spiritual and moral development of the children as well as their intellectual, academic and physical development during this programme. We believe that this approach is having a great effect!

We want each child to know Jesus as their personal Saviour. We also want them to understand their significance and self-worth as a child of God. We want them to believe that, with hard work, they can accomplish amazing things, starting with their school performance.

As the power of the Holy Spirit begins to work within them and they begin to achieve higher grades, they begin to believe in themselves and begin to exhibit many positive life changes. Not only do grades improve, relationships with other children improve, self-discipline improves, attitudes improve and in many a servant-hearted mentality begins to develop.

The process takes time and daily attention but the results are worth it. Those that have been in the programme for two or three years are completely different than when they arrived.

We have seen such a favoured season of people returning to God recently. There has been testimony after testimony of individuals who have either surrendered or recommitted their lives to Christ. Here in the CBN Europe Prayer Centre we have the privilege of hearing these testimonies and sharing them with you.

Recommitment Charlene has been struggling with depression and has also been diagnosed with cancer. She called us and prayed a prayer of re-commitment to God! Salvation A caller who has been in touch a few times, rang us in a frantic state. She opened up about her involvement with the occult and then gave her life to Jesus!

Recommitment Barry rang us feeling very low and struggling with suicidal thoughts. We prayed with him and he re-committed his life to Jesus!

We know that unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Here at CBN Europe we want to submit all we do to the Lord, putting Him first and giving Him our best. Prayer is a key part of this as we lay before God all that we are doing and ask Him to lead us and bless the work of our hands. Here are a few points that you can join with us in seeking God for:

Healing: Many have been affected by the Coronavirus in 2020 whether that is directly or indirectly. Let’s pray that this disease and its affects come to end before we step into a new year. Let’s ask the Lord to bring healing to those suffering with COVID-19 and for protection over us as a nation.

Rest and recuperation: Please pray that, during the Christmas break, our team, our partners and all of our supporters will experience a peace and rest that is from heaven. May we start 2021 with renewed passion to see His kingdom come and His will be done!

OUT OF THE SILENCE, MUSIC

Never let your song be silenced.

It is in times like these that it can be so easy to lose our joy, let fear creep in and tighten its grip around us and let our song be silenced. With so much going on around us it can be difficult to find our song again.

Thinking about this brought me back to the story of Paul and Silas in the Bible. There is one specific part of their story that I want to pay attention to and I encourage you to read Acts 16 for the full picture.

“After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.”

(Acts 16:23-24, NIV) I can’t fully understand how they must have felt but if that were me, I can imagine it would be easy to have feelings of hurt, pain, fear, hopelessness, helplessness and darkness surround me in that cell. To find my song in the middle of such a terrible situation with no end in sight would surely seem near impossible?

But what Paul and Silas did next

demonstrate exactly why, in the midst of those dark and hopeless situations, there is always hope.

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.” (Acts 16:25-26, NIV) Paul and Silas didn’t allow the darkness around them to silence their song. In that cell, in those chains they chose to proclaim their song of hope and joy. Not only were they free from their chains and then released from prison, but the jailer and his entire household were saved!

My encouragement to you this Christmas is this: whatever your situation is, don’t let your song be silenced. Proclaim your song and your breakthrough will come.

Cupcakes

Let’s get festive! Gizmo has kindly offered to share his very own Christmas cupcake recipe with you. We hope you enjoy baking these yummy treats.

Recipe:

You Will Need:

THE CAKES: Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and line a cupcake tray with your favourite festive cupcake cases.

Mix together the unsalted butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating continuously. Sift in the flour and mix gently. Spoon the mixture into your prepared cupcake cases and bake for 20 minutes! Wait until your cakes are cool before getting to the fun bit - decorating!

170g Self Raising Flour 170g Caster Sugar 170g Unsalted Butter 3 Eggs 225g Soft Butter (cubed) 450g Icing Sugar 4 tbsp Black Treacle 1 tbsp ground ginger A Little Milk 12 Mini Gingerbread Men

GINGERBREAD BUTTERCREAM: Beat the soft butter cubes with an electric mixer on a low speed until soft. Add the icing sugar in a couple spoonfuls at a time and beat until fully combined. Add the black treacle in a tbsp at a time and beat until fully combined. Add the ground ginger and again beat until fully combined. If the buttercream seems a little too firm then add a little milk to your liking.

Decorate your cakes with the yummy gingerbread buttercream and finaly, add a mini gingerbread man on the top.

All that is left to do is, ENJOY!

Our teams here in the UK want to take a moment to say a special thank you to all CBN Partners this Christmas.

To our most valued partners, Thank you so much for your support this year. We have seen over 600 people assisted in Europe’s Orphan’s Promise Projects because of your generosity.

Even amongst the most difficult circumstances of a pandemic, our projects have continued to see lives go from at-risk to thriving. We have seen children find families, education continue, children fed, families kept together, anti-trafficking projects enabled and so much more. We would not have been able to do this without you!

The most amazing thing that we have seen this year is of course salvation.

God has used Orphan’s Promise to bring the Gospel to those most at risk.

We have seen so many salvations in the last few months alone.

This coming year we are working on pre-schools to bring hope and education to the Roma communities across Europe. Please pray with us as we see these established.

It is my hope that as you partner with us, you would really feel a part of the CBN family!

This year has been like no other and, amid heart ache, sickness, hopelessness and depression, it was sometimes hard to know what good might come from this year. We could have easily written 2020 off and simply focused on 2021, but that is not what God did! He had a plan!

Thanks to people just like you, we were able to carry on as normal and actually increase our ministry to people right here in the UK and across Europe.

When lockdown hit the UK, our teams relocated to their homes and worked hard to create new marketing and digital media content. We have been blown away by the response to our ‘lockdown content’ and it has been a privilege to see how it has been helping people through this difficult year.

Without your prayers and financial support, none of that would have been possible. From the bottom of my heart I want to say THANK YOU! Together we are building the Kingdom of God through media!

Because of your generous donations we have been able to meet our ministry commitments and provide staff with the necessary tools to continue serving our beneficiaries in their roles. Your continued support to CBN has made our ministry possible; for this we say a big thank you!

We stand with you for an incredible journey of life change. Together we have seen lives changed through digital media, through supporting people in desperate situations and through our Prayer Centre.

We have also been able to respond to humanitarian crisis with Operation Blessing and reach out through the wonderful work of Superbook, which is transforming lives and bringing hope to families and communities.

This is all thanks to our generous partners whose wishes we are here to honour. We pray blessings upon you for standing with us. Although we have been through some turbulence so far this year, we continue to see God’s faithfulness through people like you. Please continue to pray with us, volunteer with us and tell your friends and families about the work of CBN.

Without our faithful partners we would not be able to do what God has called us to, particularly through such pressured and unusual times. It is the privilege of the Prayer team to have had the means to release hope into much hopelessness during Covid-19 through telephone ministry.

As Prayer Centre Manager, I, for one, am grateful to God for His provision and the consistent support of all our partners making it possible for us to make Jesus known from the front rooms of people’s homes to the frontlines of the mission fields.

Through God’s goodness we have had the privilege of sharing testimony with many of our callers over this last year.

We hear of breakthrough, salvation and encouragement for hundreds and hundreds of precious lives in our conversations every week.

Our Faith & Fundraising fortnight was a huge encouragement despite global limitations and restrictions. The Lord has remained faithful in blessing the team with strength and meeting needs in miraculous ways through very difficult times for many.

It remains the privilege it has always been to manage this incredible team and share the good news of Jesus in thousands of homes.
