HELLO, WELCOME TO THE LATEST EDITION OF OUR REACH MAGAZINE.

John 15:9 says, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love”. ESV.

What a great truth and declaration that Jesus is sharing here. In the context of John 14, Jesus is speaking with His disciples and seeking to remind them that, in a short while, He would be leaving them. Then the Holy Spirit would become their helper and represent Him after He left. Jesus then says on numerous occasions, and in John 15, the importance of remaining or abiding in Him as the vine and staying connected. By encouraging the disciples, He makes this powerful truth “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love”.

In essence, Jesus is saying that the same way the Father loves me is precisely the same way I love you. As God, the Father loves the Son to the same degree that Jesus loves you and me.

Please stop momentarily and let these truths permeate and settle within your heart and mind. These words can shift and establish new ways of thinking and bring a fresh revelation of the love of God. In this verse, Jesus encourages us to abide, remain, or continue in His love. The Amplified Bible says, “Remain in My love and do not doubt my love for you.” Today, let the realisation that you and I are loved and let this love nourish and sustain.

So, what is the key to abiding in love?

Verse 10 says, “If you keep or obey my commandments, you will abide in my love.” Jesus also said in John 13:34, “A new commandment I give you that you love one another just as I have loved you; you are to love one another.”

Jesus is our example; He came and demonstrated a new way of loving one another.

As you read through this edition, we pray that you will understand the heart of God more significantly, and it will encourage you to share your faith.

GOD’S TEMPLE WITHIN US.

The Good News is very simple. Jesus announced it at the beginning of His ministry, saying in Mark 1:15, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” Now is the time; you can reach up and grab it. All you have to do is change your thinking and believe.

LET ME OUT OF THE BOX OF YOUR SMALL THINKING. LET ME BE GOD, LET ME BE IMMANUEL - GOD WITH USFOR YOU.

Unfortunately, people seem to want to keep God in a box - whether it’s in the Ark of the Covenant, the Tabernacle in the wilderness, Solomon’s Temple, or Herod’s Temple. They think they must go to a special place and have a special prayer by a special person. However, Jesus tells us in Luke 17:21, “For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” And He is saying to us, “Let Me out of the box of your small thinking. Let Me be God, let Me be Immanuel - God with us - for you.” He wants to be all around you and in you.

You are His tabernacle and His ark of the covenant, for He has made a special covenant with you. Jesus

told His followers at the Last Supper, shortly before He shed His blood on the cross for our sins, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood” (1 Corinthians 11:25). So, the good news is that the Father wants to come and dwell in you - not just come and go from time to time, but dwell inside you! As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 3:16, ‘Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?’

Now, in God’s temple, can you imagine any sickness? No, it shouldn’t be there. So as a matter of faith we can say, I am God’s temple. Disease doesn’t belong in His temple, for He wants to heal, to restore, and to be your all-in-all. May God bless you as you believe in Him!

THE BLESSING OF EDUCATION

Here at Orphan’s Promise, we believe in the power of education. Without it, the pathways to securing sustainable and reliable work are limited. Often when income is unpredictable, life at home can be turbulent as well. As families struggle to make ends meet, debt can cause devastating effects.

This is certainly true for 4-yearold Samantha and her family. Overwhelming debt led her grandfather to take his own life, leaving Samantha’s father to pick up the pieces. Although he was working as a day labourer, his income was sporadic, and the pressure to provide for his family was made all the more difficult due to the ill health of Samantha’s mother.

As we spoke with Samantha’s family, her father said that some days there was food for the table, yet many times,

there was nothing to eat at all. With this kind of financial pressure, educational opportunities seemed far from reach.

But at Orphan’s Promise, we believe that education can play an integral role in helping to deliver families from cyclic poverty. Through our local partner, we have been able to come alongside Samantha’s family to assist with immediate needs and give Samantha and her brother the opportunity to attend school. We discovered that Samantha is a very intelligent student and is excelling in her studies.

We also had the opportunity to share the Gospel with the family. Samantha is growing in her faith every week by praying with her family, reading the Bible, and applying God’s Word to her daily life.

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

“The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack. He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He renews my life; He leads me along the right paths for His name’s sake. Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff - they comfort me” (Psalm 23:1-4 HCSB).

Sheep are animals that need to be led.

In the land of Israel, shepherds often took their sheep away from settled areas to graze. This exposed them to various dangers - the weather, terrain, and human and animal predators.

The shepherd was responsible for leading his flocks to safe areas where they could find nourishment, be protected from predators, and would

rein in their tendency to wander away. Because of Israel’s climate, terrain and predators, the sheep depended utterly upon the shepherd.

The daily reality of the shepherd provided clear images for the psalmist to describe God. God is a good shepherd, one who leads His flock to places of nourishment, along right, safe paths, who protects each sheep from potential dangers. The sheep depend upon the shepherd to take care of these things, as a good shepherd does.

Often the farming and herding images of the Bible fail to connect with us as they did to the ancient readers, because in our modern developed world we do not interact with agricultural or herders’ lifestyles.

8 | CBN ISRAEL
A powerful characteristic of God is God as our Shepherd. Our leader, our protector and our provider. Read on to discover more of why God is our Good Shepherd and how we can rely on Him.

But the psalmist painted a clear image of our need for God and His responsibility to lead us and protect us. Do we allow Him to shepherd us? Do we allow ourselves to be shepherded?

The psalmist knew that the sheep could not survive within the hazardous wilds without the shepherd. There were no self-made sheep.

Too often today, the world idolises rugged individualism; we do not allow ourselves to be led. We do not recognise our limitations. This is where worry comes from: when we seek to take control of the things that belong to God.

Do we recognise that our Shepherd

is a good shepherd? Do we trust Him to lead us and allow Him to do so? We can rest assured that if we do, we shall not want.

PRAYER

Our Father, our Shepherd, please lead us, guide us, and protect us for Your name’s sake. In Jesus’ name, amen.

HE LIKES TO BE ASKED

I was reading the first book in the Chronicles of Narnia series the other day – the Magician’s Nephew (yes, it’s a children’s book, don’t judge me). It’s so interesting to re-read the books as an adult, understanding the symbolism of Aslan being Jesus. There was one part that really stood out for me…

In the book, a boy called Diggory and a girl named Polly are sent on a quest by Aslan to retrieve the fruit of life. They ride on the back of a flying, talking horse (as you do). The journey is long, and they have to stop to get rest. The horse is eating grass, but the

boy and girl haven’t got anything to eat. Diggory then complains, saying he’s hungry and wonders why no one had thought to sort their dinner out.

The horse says, “I’m sure Aslan would have if you’d just asked him.”

“I thought Aslan would have known without being asked.” the boy replies.

“I have no doubt he would. But he’s still the type that likes to be asked.” The horse says to the boy.

I found this bit of dialogue between the boy and the talking horse so interesting.

10 | FEATURED

The boy assumes that Aslan being all-knowing, doesn’t even need to be asked because, surely, he already knows and will just do it anyway.

This is like us and God. Sometimes we don’t ask Him or tell Him things because He’s all-knowing; He already knows how we feel, what we want and need, so why bother telling Him what He already knows? I find myself often only praying to God for the big things, praying in the moments of crisis and unexpected storms, but I don’t pray

sort it for him. I want him to come to me and say, ‘Dad, can you please tie my shoelaces for me?’ I don’t want him just to assume I’m going to do everything for him without him needing even to acknowledge me or ask.

God WANTS us to ask Him; he wants us to converse with Him; He wants us to look up and say, ‘Can you do this for me’ ‘Can you help me in this situation’ and ‘Can you give me that job I’ve been hoping for?’, etc. He wants you to tell Him about your day, about what made you happy and what made you sad, what fear you wrestled with and what moment you celebrated because that’s what a relationship looks like.

about the simple & even obvious things because, well, they seem too simple, too obvious. I think I don’t need to pray that because God surely already knows and will just sort it. Or I don’t tell Him how I feel because I think He already knows, and well… why inform an all-knowing God who can describe my feelings better than I can?

The reason it’s so important to ask God is because that’s what a relationship looks like. A relationship isn’t one person just silently giving what needs to be given without any conversing.

If I had a child (which I don’t, so I can’t use that excuse for reading kids’ books), I would want him to ask me for things, to ask me when he needs help, to not walk around with his shoelaces undone, waiting for me just to see it and

Ask God today for the simple things. Yes, He knows all, He knows what you need, and He knows what you’re going to say before you’ve even said it, but He still wants you to ask Him; He still wants you to talk to Him.

In Mark 10:51, Jesus asks the blind man: “what do you want me to do for you?” Surely it was clear he wanted healing, he wanted to see again, but Jesus wanted him to ask, wanted him to state his request, wanted him to converse with Him and say what it was he wanted, and it was in that moment that Jesus healed him.

FEATURED | 11
I have no doubt he would. But he’s still the type that likes to be asked.

THE HOUSE OF HOPE: A REFUGE FOR ORPHANS AND REFUGEES

The House of Hope is a transitional home for orphan graduates venturing into independent life and becoming valuable community members. It offers these young adults a safe and supportive environment. One where they can learn life skills, receive vocational training and pursue their education. It also provides Godly guidance and mentoring, helping them discover their identity and purpose in God.

Adam Howard, the Director of Media and Communications for Orphan’s Promise, shares, “We have been able to impact hundreds of lives because of the consistent financial and emotional support of Orphan’s Promise partners and friends.”

Many of the refugees it serves are single mothers with young children who have lost everything and have nowhere else to go.

Valentina, a Ukrainian refugee shares, “I was pregnant, and my child had a heart defect. The surgery needed could only be done in Kyiv. So, we went to Kyiv and had the surgery. Just as we were discharged, the war began. We were looking for options for places to stay, but it was difficult. We didn’t have any money. Then, volunteers told us to come here.”

“They gave us a room and fed us. I was warmly welcomed and given clothing and food. They provided all the necessities. They helped us get the birth certificate and submit all the paperwork, and to register for medical help. They helped us a lot. We are safe here,” says Valentina.

The House of Hope is a shining example of how God can use ordinary people to make a difference in extraordinary circumstances.

HEALING TWO WOUNDS IN ONE DAY

10-year-old Consuelo was born with an inguinal hernia that progressively became worse, causing her mobility to be limited and causing pain. Her parents couldn’t afford the surgery she needed, and her father, Hetzai, a mechanic, was trying to save for the operation.

One day, while working on a truck, it fell, injuring his hand and wrist, rendering him unable to work. “From the moment I had the accident I was practically useless. The pain was frequent. Then it got worse. I couldn’t use the hand, so I had to stop working.” he said.

With both Consuelo and Hetzai needing surgery, Maria, Consuelo’s mother, was at a loss as to what to do. “Everything fell apart for me,” said Maria through the tears. “I thought, ‘What are we going to do?’”

CBN’s Operation Blessing met the family at a free medical outreach in their community, and the organisation arranged for both Consuelo and Hetzai to receive the surgeries they desperately needed.

The same day, surgeons fixed the damaged bones and ligaments in Hetzai’s wrist and hand while another team fixed Consuelo’s hernia. Both surgeries were successful.

“This changed my life. Now, I want to live again,” said Hetzai.

He has been undergoing therapy to strengthen his hand and arm and has been able to return to work. Consuelo loves the freedom of being able to run and play without pain.

“We both feel better. Thank you very much to Operation Blessing!” said the happy girl.

THE NAMES OF GOD

Have you ever looked up the meaning of your name? Ever wondered about the origins behind it or why your parents gave you your name?

Even now, as I contemplate choosing a name for my unborn child, I am praying and thinking about who they will be, what I want their name to represent and how I want it to encourage them in their future. I want a name that will give a glimpse of who they are. In Hebrew tradition, the name given to a person held great significance. More than a mere label of identification, a person’s name spoke of their purpose, character or circumstances.

Names of God, such as ‘God the Father’, ‘Abba’, ‘El Shaddai’, or ‘Elohim’ are found throughout scripture, and each one shows us a different aspect of God’s character, a reminder of who he is; ‘El Roi’ - The God who sees; ‘Yahweh Shalom’ - The Lord our peace; ‘Jehovah Jireh’ - The Lord will provide; ‘Jehovah Rapha’ - The Lord who heals.

As finite beings who struggle with comprehending the magnitude of who God is, these poignant names help us to understand more about the nature of our heavenly Father and lead us into a deeper relationship with Him.

16 | FEATURED

Perhaps the most intimate and profound name of God is ‘Yahweh’, which is the personal name for God and holds the very essence of who He is. Appearing over 6,500 times in the Hebrew Bible, it is the first name God used to identify Himself to us.

In Exodus 3:12-15 Moses asked for God’s name as he thought the Israelites would want proof of who was sending him to Pharoah. God responds to Moses by sharing that His name is ‘I AM WHO I AM’; in Hebrew, this word is Yahweh.

Together, all of God’s names serve as a reminder to us that no matter what we’re going through, we have a God who can fulfil our every need; a God outside of time and in control of everything. That He was and is and ALWAYS will be. An ever-present God who will ALWAYS walk with us over every mountain and through each valley we face in life.

So, when you are struggling and in the midst of a storm, call out to Him and remember you have a God who can provide for you in more ways than you can know and does so without a second thought because He loves you. Pray to your heavenly Father with a name that reminds you of who He is and what He can do for you in your circumstances - bringing peace, wisdom, perseverance, healing and joy.

Reach out to the one who is ALWAYS! The one known as ‘I AM!’ His name is YAHWEH!

This personal name was God’s way of showing Moses and the Israelites that He is self-existent, outside of time, over and above all things, our ever-present and eternal Father, the one without a beginning or end in whom we can trust. Yahweh just is!

PAT ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS

Join Pat Robertson, CBN founder, as he answers the tough questions in life with Biblical truths.

Please clarify the Bible verse that says, For many are called, but few are chosen (Matthew 22:14 NKJV). Who is actually called, and who is actually chosen?

I think Jesus is talking about salvation. The Word of God goes out through television programs like The 700 Club. I hope that over the course of time millions of people around the world watch - and continue to watch.

However, when we o er an invitation to receive Christ, they do not all respond. So many people have grown up in church. They heard the preaching. They have heard the message. They had the anointing of the Holy Spirit when they were listening, but they turned it down. And there are so many who have Bibles but do not read them. Remember, many are called, but few accept the call.

He wants to use it to build the biggest tree house his friends have ever seen! Then Superbook takes them To meet Philip, a disciple who has led many people to Jesus. When Peter and John pray for people to receive the Holy Spirit, a magician is so amazed that he wants to buy this power for money. The magician is soon put in his place by Peter who tells the magician that he can never buy the power of the Holy Spirit.

Chris, Joy and Gizmo soon learn that what we use power for and why we use power is more important than power itself. WATCH

20 | EPISODE IN FOCUS

Hi friends, Gizmo here.

Me and my team recently got back from the Big Church Festival. We had an incredible time! While we were there, we looked at the episode Phillip. In this episode Chris and Joy learn about how the power of the Holy Spirit is for true followers of Jesus and how the Holy Spirit can empower us. I wonder, have you ever asked God to help you and felt stronger because of your prayer?

The Holy Spirit is an incredible gift from God and anyone who believes in Him can receive His amazing gifts. The Bible tells us that even when we are young, we can do incredible things with God. Take a look at this verse from 1 Timothy 4:12 - “You are young, but do not let anyone treat you as if you were not important. Be an example to show the believers how they should live. Show them with your words, with the way you live, with your love, with your faith, and with your pure life.”

Remember if you are unsure of any of these words, ask a trusted adult what they mean.

DURING THE BIG CHURCH

FESTIVAL, WE ALSO LOOKED AT THE FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT.

CAN YOU NAME ALL NINE?

(Answers at the bottom of the page)

This week, think about what gifts you would like to receive from the Holy Spirit.

NOW LET’S PRAY

Dear God, Thank you for the incredible gift of your Spirit. I pray that you will show me when to use each gift you give me.

Show me this week how to learn more about You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

ALLEN’S STORY

CAN YOU IMAGINE LIVING IN THE PRISON OF POOR MENTAL HEALTH, RAGE, VIOLENCE AND THEN ACTUAL PHYSICAL PRISON? WELL, THIS WAS ALLEN’S REALITY.

His dad stepped over him as a baby and left the family home, and at 14 his mum was found dead on the sofa.

He wanted to become a machine and be violent in order to ward people off. He surrounded himself with tough men. Desiring to be feared, he would strike out first so that people were kept at a distance because – inside - he was still a frightened, lost little boy. This led him to the world of drugs and crime.

He served seven sentences over twenty years. In prison he went to the chapel and was convicted of the man he had become. He asked God to show him if He was real by placing a white dove on his windowsill, instead of all the pigeons he saw daily. The next morning the pigeons flew away and a white dove was sat there! Inmates thought he had gone mad when he ran out of the cell exclaiming “There is a God!” God met him with such simplicity.

He said sorry to God for all he had done wrong and the people he had hurt. After reading a book by Joyce Meyer where she lay all the abuse she had experienced at the feet of Jesus, Allen felt compelled to do the same and he physically gathered this ball of rage, imagined Jesus on the cross and lay it at his feet. It was like his heart had woken up! He had peace.

His life had been totally transformed by Jesus!
