Q.

What exactly is our role in salvation?

A. In the Bible, the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 2:12-13, “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (kvj). He is urging us to build on our salvation by not yielding to our sinful desires. But we depend on Him. That’s His will and that pleases Him. There’s a partnership between God and us and it’s mentioned in the Bible.

Acts 15:28 says, “It seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things” (kjv). We’re working together with the Holy Spirt to draw closer to God and not just remaining stagnant in our salvation. That salvation was bought by Jesus when He died for our sins. It was His gift to us.

What do we do with that gift? As we live with Him over time, we’re working with the Holy Spirit, being made in the image of Christ. And then, we become more and more like Him. We’re participating, developing from one degree of glory to the other
