Hello,

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Reach Magazine.

As we celebrate Easter, the message of the cross and the resurrection speaks of hope in a world desperately seeking answers and solutions to circumstances beyond their control.

For the disciples and those close to Jesus, the uncertainty that they faced when they witnessed the suffering and cruel death was permanently etched upon their hearts and minds. To see the Saviour of the world, the innocent spotless Lamb of God between two robbers give his final breath and express the words that would change the course of history. “It is finished” echoed throughout the heavens and the earth and the skies immediately plunged into darkness.

For those who witnessed His death, the events of the day appeared to be the finale, however, two days later, the stone was rolled away and Jesus the resurrection and life defied all reason and conquered the grave. He took the keys of death and hell and rose triumphantly and now because He lives, we live also. (John 14:19)

The invitation that Jesus offers is the reason why as a ministry we do what we do. Our desire is to see anyone, and everyone come into a living relationship with Jesus. We make no

apologies for this and for those of you who faithfully support us financially and pray we thank you for making this possible.

As you take the time to read this issue it is our prayer that the truths and updates will speak and impact your life and encourage you to also share your faith and talk about the work of CBN Europe to those within your sphere of influence.

May I take the opportunity on behalf of CBN Europe to wish you and your loved ones a very happy Easter; we look forward to sharing the good news of Jesus with you and how lives are being transformed thanks to you, our partners.

THE TENDER LOVE OF OUR SAVIOUR

We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. –1 John 3:16

It’s incredible to think how much God loves us. He is always with us and will never forsake us!

Sadly, some people can feel abandoned after going through conflict or crisis. They fall into destructive behavior patterns and then wonder, “Why am I doing this? I know this doesn’t work, but I feel compelled to do it.”

Yet you can have a life of love and feel cherished by your Maker despite anything you have experienced.

Jesus loves you tenderly, like a little child. He loves you so much that He chose to die for you. He loves you individually and seeks you out. He will leave the 99 other sheep in the flock and come just for the one—to find you—because He wants you to be with Him for all eternity.

He will melt your heart with all its hardness, wounds, and secret places

you’ve walled off. He’s willing to do all of that because He loves you— tenderly.

Simply pray, “Jesus, please save me. I want to experience Your love. I want to know how tenderly You love me and how precious I am in Your sight. Open my eyes to see this truth. Open my ears to hear Your voice. Give me a heart of understanding that I may know the greatness of Your power and love toward me.”

Faith always works through love. And when you have that revelation of His love, you have everything you need.

So, no matter what you’ve gone through—all the rejection, struggle, strife, hurt, and pain—bring it to the cross and leave it at the feet of Jesus. And He says, “I will fix it. I love you. Look at what love has done.” God bless you!

MINISTRY UPDATE

CBN Europe is the umbrella for CBN ministry in the Europe region as well as Ukraine and the CIS (Commonwealth Independent States that were part of the former Soviet Union). With CBN offices in the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Croatia and Ukraine, CBN is strategically positioned to share the Good News of Jesus to the nations of Europe and beyond. In addition, CBN programmes can be seen as far as Australia and New Zealand!

CBN’s ministry in Europe is still fairly ‘young’ in the light of CBN’s journey and the first broadcast hosted by CBN’s founder, Dr Pat Robertson on 1 October 1961. Yet – since we established CBN UK in 2002 – much has happened. God opened so many doors for CBN’s ministry to bring hope and relief to many people. The launch of CBN Germany in 2007, CBN Balkan in 2016 and the Operation Blessing Poland office in 2022. Our office in Ukraine – CBN Emmanuil – joined the CBN Europe family in 2021 – a Godordained timing that enabled us to prepare for a very difficult time of war in Ukraine.

We live in challenging times – from economic downturns, increased secularism and a steep decline of Christianity across Western Europe in

particular, to an ongoing refugee crisis, a global pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the earthquake in Syria and Turkey, and the list goes on. As Christians we take courage in the words of Jesus where He tells us not to panic. These things will and must take place. He warns of the first birth pains, with many more to come. (Matthew 24). He mentions about how the world will hate us because we follow Him. That many will turn away from Him and betray and hate each other. Sin will be rampant everywhere and the love of many will grow cold.

Jesus makes a promise in verse 13 that “the one who endures to the end will be saved”. He calls us to hold on, to keep trusting and following Him, despite the things we see and hear.

Verse 14 is the Scripture that is displayed above the main entrance (and by the staff entrance) of the CBN Headquarters in Virginia Beach. It says: “And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come”. This Scripture is at the heart of CBN’s ministry around the world, as we join with our teams and partner ministries to bring the message of the Good News of Jesus Christ to the nations in word and in deed.

Turkey

Our Operation Blessing Disaster Relief team deployed to Turkey to provide immediate disaster relief to earthquake survivors.

We provided warm blankets, hot food and drinks, relief bags, food parcels and solar lights to meet the immediate needs. We opened a warehouse where we deliver purchased food and hygiene items. We currently have five teams working in various areas in rotation. The need is so great – as thousands of people have lost not only loved ones in this tragedy, but also their homes and personal belongings.

The government provides temporary shelter to many displaced people – yet this is not enough. Many people sleep on the street or pitch tents in parks and fields. Various churches approached us for help for their members and the communities they serve. As the Lord provides we continue to serve and stand with the people of Turkey.

Thank you for praying for our teams, for their safety, for the people we reach and for opportunities to share the Gospel in a challenging environment. A huge thanks to everyone who gave so far towards our Turkey Disaster Relief campaign – so far we have raised £36, 860 in Europe!

REGIONAL IMPACT | 7
Here are some recent updates of the work that has been made possible by the generous support of CBN partners.

Poland & Ukraine

Thanks to the generous support of CBN partners we are able to continue the support to Ukrainian refugees and internally displaced people inside Ukraine.

We have been able to stretch the funds we raised in the first couple of months (topped up with ongoing donations towards our relief efforts to date) in order to continue providing much needed help to vulnerable families.

We established the Operation Blessing Polska Foundation to help raise more awareness and funds for our ongoing relief efforts. We streamlined our operations and consolidated our two Polish warehouses in one location. We continue to operate from our warehouse at the Poland-Ukraine border, to continue weekly food and hygiene deliveries to our warehouse in Ukraine.

I am amazed by the generosity of our partners and donors who have contributed to our relief efforts! To date we have raised more than £183, 764 from donors in Europe which is tremendous!

Superbook Season one is being dubbed into the Czech language – we are so excited about this opportunity to share the Bible stories with children and families in the Czech Republic!

Ania and I recently visited TVP - the Polish national TV station in Warsaw –to discuss new broadcast opportunities for Superbook in Polish and Ukrainian language. Thank You Lord for open doors!

Thank you for partnering with CBN and helping us to reach Europe with the Good News of Jesus! Don’t forget to watch the daily 700 Club for the latest updates (Revelation TV – 6pm or next day repeat at 8am / 11 am), or watch the latest shows on our website and YouTube channel.

PARTNER PROFILE

Lorraine & Harry Wilson are CBN Europe’s financial partners who faithfully support the ministry every month. We recently spoke to Lorraine and asked her why they partner with CBN Europe.

“One day I watched The 700 Club and thought, ‘I need to give to CBN Europe.’ I still wanted to continue giving to my local community, but I knew I also needed to give to CBN.

I’m passionate about CBN because they teach the truths from the Bible and bring the word of God to life.

I have such a heart for Asylum seekers and refugees. It saddens me and breaks my heart to see them in such devastating circumstances without blankets to keep them warm. When I see disasters taking place, I’m so thankful that I have a roof over my head and I’m kept warm.

Partnering with CBN Europe has made a difference in our lives because I would love to go to places where the need is greatest, but it’s not always possible. Not everyone can go, but when we give, we are a part of going into the world and sharing the love of Jesus.

God has given me a thankful heart and wants us to be His legs and arms. If I can be a part of it and make a difference, I will continue doing so. I only wish to give even more, but God knows my heart. I told the Lord, ‘I trust you to pay my bills.’ I would even give my last £10 if I knew it would help.”

If you are a CBN Europe partner, we thank God for you. Like Lorraine and Harry, you may not be able to go to the Nations, but when you give, you make it possible for us to go together. Together we fulfil the great commission to go and be the expression of Jesus to the world, so thank you.

Do you partner with CBN Europe? We would love to hear your story and feature it in future Partner Profiles!

BIBLICAL ISRAEL: GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE

Mark and Matthew identify Gethsemane as the place Jesus went with His disciples after eating the Passover within the city of Jerusalem, prior to His arrest (Matthew 26:36; Mark 14:32). These two Gospels provide the only mention of this place within ancient sources; thus, pinpointing its location proves difficult.

The Gospel of Luke describes Jesus going to the Mount of Olives (22:39), which sits to the east, across the Kidron Valley (see John 18:1), from the city of Jerusalem. Passover pilgrims would consume their Passover meal, which was the lamb offered in the Temple, within the walled city of Jerusalem, but they stayed outside of the city on the surrounding hillsides.

The name Gethsemane comes from the Hebrew, gat and shemen. A gat typically refers to a “wine press,” but it can refer, as a more generic term, to any pressing installation. Shemen refers to olive oil, which the olive groves on the mountain gave it the name, Mount

of Olives. Thus, Gethsemane most likely refers to an olive oil pressing installation.

Pilgrims to Jerusalem today can visit four different sites, which Christian traditions (Roman Catholic, Russian, Armenian, and Greek Orthodox) have identified as Gethsemane. All reside

10 | CBN ISRAEL

on the Mount of Olives. The traditions of these sites only date back at the earliest to the fourth century A.D. The most popular is the Roman Catholic site, maintained by the Franciscans.

This site contains a church built by the Italian architect Antonio Barluzzi and a grove of olive trees. Some of these trees are several hundred years old,

location of Gethsemane, its location on the Mount of Olives offers an important geographic window into Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane. The Mount of Olives sits on the eastern watershed of the Jerusalem hill country. Beyond the mountain’s ridge, the land drastically falls away toward the Jordan River Valley and the area of Jericho and the Dead Sea. This wilderness served bandits and refugees for centuries as it provided natural concealment to those hiding from authorities.

When Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, He physically stood at the door of escape. He could have walked less than an hour and disappeared from Caiaphas and Pilate. This heightens the tension of His prayer, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:42). In that moment, He turned His back on the door of escape to face God’s will that lay in front of Him, the cross.

but they do not, as some claim, date back to the time of Jesus. The first century Jewish historian Josephus relates how the Roman army that laid siege to Jerusalem cut down all the trees in the vicinity to build their siege engines (War 6:1).

While we do not know the precise

This is something that can only be truly appreciated when one stands in this geography and realizes the choices that lay in front of Jesus: how easily He could have saved Himself, yet He submitted to His Father’s will.

ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE PSALMS

Psalm 121 (NIV)

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;

8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

One of my favourite Psalms is Psalm 121.

Why not take a minute to read it?

This ancient Psalm was made to be sung by travellers on their journey up to the temple of God in Jerusalem. Travelling in the Ancient Near East was dangerous, very dangerous!

Wandering thieves and looters would be hiding in wake to attack if they thought something of value was coming up the path. The threat of mountain lions and even the route itself was not for the faint-hearted. Treacherous cliff edges that could take your life with the mere slip of a sandaled foot, sun beating down, and the moon calling out the jackals were

12 | FEATURED

more than enough reason to just stay at home. But as with the journey of life, the path must be taken; the thieves, lions, cliffs, sun and jackals must be faced.

As the travellers walk towards the temple, God’s protection follows them. As they walk through life-threatening circumstances, God watched over them. God’s presence and His goodness follows those who walk towards Him. He doesn’t promise that this path ahead will be rid of threat of destruction from these enemies. Instead, He offers help, a watchful eye and protection.

The Israelites would have interpreted this Psalm at face-value. They believed, ‘if we travel, we can trust that God will protect us from all harm’. And really there isn’t another way to read it from that literal perspective. But does, “keep you from all harm”, match up with the reality of our lives today? When I was 2, I fell on a brick and cut my knee clean open - that sounds a lot like harm to me. However, I firmly believe the Psalm isn’t untrue, we should just be looking at it differently. If not physical harm, then what?

I’d like to propose looking at this Psalm through the lens of what we know about Jesus’ mission. Jesus was born on earth to live a perfect life, to die a horrible death to then come back to life after being declared dead for three full days. Jesus came to earth to bridge the humanly unbridgeable void between us and God. He came to give us eternal life without sin’s hooks remaining in us. Upon choosing to believe and following Jesus, we begin our life with Him for eternity. Therefore,

this life’s sufferings have such a lesser weight because of all that Jesus has done. Spoiler alert, our bodies will one day be gone because we will physically die. But it’s not the physical death that we should be steering away from it’s the spiritual death. We should be more concerned with our salvation and the salvation of our friends than with our physical security. Our journey in this life is to stay on course and bring others along too!

Now, re-read the Psalm considering your eternal salvation.

How completely different is it with this lens? We can be encouraged that God will watch over our path to eternity. Not the day nor the night affects our security in being with God for eternity; the jackals and the thieves lose their power. The fear of pain or death is still with us, yes, but the truth of our eternity stands taller than them both. So be encouraged, that if you have given up your life to follow Jesus, in the most beautiful and eternal sense “the Lord will keep you from all harm, he will watch over your life”.

A MIRACLE IN THAILAND

10-year-old Dao and her little brother went to live with their grandparents after their mother abandoned them. But after only a few weeks Grandma Pinyo faced challenges with Dao.

“Dao wouldn’t listen to me and always argued with me,” recalled Grandma Pinyo. “I didn’t know what to do. I felt so discouraged even after a short time.”

“Whenever Grandma asked me to help her with the chores, I always told her I would do it. But I never did,” said Dao.

Dao’s grandparents prayed for their grandkids and took them to church. At Sunday School Dao watched the Superbook episode about Job.

“I saw that bad things happened to Job. He had boils on his body, his children died, his friends left. His wife told him to turn away from God. But Job was very patient. He knelt down and praised God. He had great faith,” recalled Dao.

When Dao came home, she prayed in her room to become a Christian. “I felt Jesus was speaking to me,” she said. “He told me to have faith in Him and to follow Him.”

Grandma Pinyo was amazed by the dramatic change she saw in Dao. “She said, ‘Grandma, from now on, I’ll obey you. I’ll help you do the dishes and the laundry. I’ll do everything you ask,’”

Grandma Pinyo asked Dao to help her with something else. “I don’t know how to read very well, and now she helps me read the Bible!” said Grandma. “Dao has become a new person! I’m so glad that she believes in Jesus and follows Him.”

Soon after, Dao invited her friend, Ink to Sunday School. After she watched the Superbook episode, “The Fiery Furnace,” Ink prayed to become a Christian too.

OKSANA’S STORY

Oksana is one of six children being raised by her mother in a poor Roma community in Ukraine.

Because of the young children, it is difficult for her mum to find work, and they rely on government help to provide.

She came along to our CBN’s Orphan’s Promise training centre and has been part of the education programme for the last few years.

Not only does the centre give Oksana the help she needs academically but has also been able to support the whole family through additional food packages and providing school supplies.

Oksana’s struggles have also been made more challenging by a congenital disease, vitiligo. Her condition has been difficult to navigate not only medically but also socially with her peers.

Orphan’s Promise has been able to come alongside Oksana in both ways, providing the help, care and support she needs to thrive.

We cannot wait to watch Oksana, and her whole family, grow and develop in the years to come, thanks to your ongoing support!

EXPLORING EASTER

Easter is a very special time of year for believers in Jesus. This year, why not take some time to journey with Jesus from His preparation, to His crucifixion and His rising? PAT ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS

Join Pat Robertson, CBN founder, as he answers the tough questions in life with Biblical truths. Should we take a day of rest on Saturday or Sunday?

Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath” (NKJV). Can you imagine what it would be like if you had to work seven days a week, then turn around and work seven more days?

Look at society. Stores are open. TV is going. Everything is go, go, go. We have had more nervous breakdowns because we are not taking a day of rest. The reason Sunday is known for the Sabbath is because it was the day of Jesus’ resurrection. But according to Jewish culture, the Sabbath started on Friday night and extended into Saturday. The idea that it has to be on a particular day is not the problem. Enjoying one day of rest is beneficial for all of us.

Grow Like Jesus

Have you ever seen how newborn babies grow?

They become more and more like their parents. We say they are “maturing.” First they learn to crawl, then to walk, and then to run! As a newborn Christian, you’re going to grow and mature spiritually. Every day that you grow, you’re going to be more like Jesus! It’s amazing, isn’t it?

Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favour with God and all the people. We follow Jesus to learn how to grow spiritually and honour Him by learning new things, growing in wisdom, loving others, growing in favour with people, and taking care of our physical bodies growing in stature.

PRAY

Dear God, I want to grow just as Jesus did. Help me to grow spiritually so that every day I look and behave more like Jesus. Amen.

WILL YOU GIVE A SPECIAL GIFT TO HELP TURKEY EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS?

After the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the need for relief is so great. Families have not only lost loved ones, but homes and belongings. CBNs Operation Blessing teams are on the ground in Turkey, delivering truckloads of vital relief supplies such as hot food, clean water, diapers, fuel, solar lights and relief bags to meet the immediate needs. We are also providing medical care through our mobile clinic and want to do so much more to help.

Would you consider making a special gift to help our brothers and sisters in Turkey? Visit cbneurope.givingpage.org to make your gift. Thank you in advance and God bless you!
