A word from the Principal
With Keith Willett
Dear Parents, Carers, and Students,
I write this week’s contribution for ‘What’s On’ after concluding with the Year 12 students and their families following the Celebration Day assembly. This was a truly magnificent occasion, marked by a perfect blend of joy, reflection, and respect. The graduating class demonstrated exemplary leadership, not only in their achievements, but also in the way they carried themselves throughout the day. Their celebration was inclusive, connecting students from Foundation to Year 12, making every individual feel part of the larger school community
What stood out was the legacy this group leaves behind a legacy built on strong friendships and a deep commitment to citizenship. They exemplified kindness, unity, and support for one another, qualities that will resonate through Cobram AGS for years to come. Their respectful and thoughtful manner in celebrating this milestone speaks volumes about their maturity and the positive impact they have had on the school culture All of the Year 12 students both individually and collectively were a credit to their school, their families and most of all, themselves
As they move forward into the next chapter of their lives, the bonds they have formed and the values they have upheld will remain a model for future students. The day was a powerful reminder of the strength of Cobram AGS’s community, and this Year 12 group will be remembered for their contribution to that enduring sense of connection and spirit As a principal, I could not be more appreciative or respectful of our Year 12 class of 2024
Yarning Circle Officially Opens
On Monday morning, our school community gathered on the oval for the official opening of our Yarning Circle It was an honour to welcome Aunty Iris from the Many Mobs Indigenous Corporation, who beautifully expressed the significance of the Yarning Circle in fostering storytelling, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture among students and staff. Our school is committed to reconciliation and the Yarning Circle is a fundamental part of promoting important conversations in a safe and inclusive space
A massive thank you to Uncle Eric and Year 5 student Kadeyn for so beautifully playing the digeridoo whilst students took part in a traditional smoking ceremony.
Following the event, our Indigenous students had the unique opportunity to stay behind for a yarn with Aunty Iris, continuing the important tradition of knowledge-sharing that the Yarning Circle embodies. Given the construction of the Yarning Circle has been a several years in the making, it was a truly special morning for our school, celebrating culture, community, and connection
Grandparents’ Day
What a joy it was to welcome numerous grandparents and special others to school for our Grandparents Day celebration on Friday morning It was truly fantastic to witness so many excited and enthusiastic students proudly showing their special visitors around their classroom, their favourite playtime spots and sharing a snack together during recess.
We are incredibly grateful for the many grandparents and special others who joined us for this occasion. A huge thank you also goes to the talented students in our ukulele group for playing some lovely melodies for our guests as they arrived They did an exceptional job and seem to improve with every performance! We hope our grandparents enjoyed getting a glimpse into
A group of aspiring Senior School leaders took centre stage, each delivering a compelling address to their housemates on why they would make an outstanding House Captain in 2025. Each candidate showcased their passion, leadership qualities, and commitment to their house, making it a tough decision for their peers
The selection process continued with a student vote, and we are now eagerly awaiting the announcement of the successful candidates over the coming days. Stay tuned for the reveal of our 2025 House Captains!

Trivia Night Tests the Brain Power!
The recent Trivia Night at school organised by our Parents and Friends (P&F) group was a resounding success, uniting our school community for an evening filled with enjoyment, laughter, and a plethora of challenging questions covering different topics! The atmosphere was lively as teams competed head-to-head, competing for the ultimate trivia glory!
A massive thank you goes out to our wonderful P&F team, who dedicated countless hours behind the scenes to bring this event to life We also extend our gratitude to the numerous school families and local businesses that generously donated prizes, making the night even more special. A special mention to Cobram AGS parent, Kale Watkins, who graciously volunteered his time and talent as our MC for the evening. Kale’s vibrant energy, enthusiasm, and humor significantly contributed to the night’s success.
Once again, thank you to everyone who joined us and supported this event. If you’re interested in attending meetings and assisting with future P&F activities, please feel free to reach out via the P&F’s Facebook page or email: cagspandf@gmail.com
There’s No Stopping Madi and Jean-Marie!
Two of our Senior School students produced fantastic performances in the sporting domain last week. On Monday, Year 12 student Madi McDiarmid took on Victoria's best young athletes at the School Sports Victoria State Athletics Championships in Melbourne. Madi smashed her personal best in the long jump, soaring to an impressive 3.67m effort and landing herself in 5th place overall What a leap!
Congratulations
Also excelling at the state level was Year 6 student JeanMarie Jonker, who performed incredibly well at the Victorian State Gymnastics Championships in Geelong. After progressing through the regional tryouts, Jean-Marie got to take on the best gymnasts from across Victoria and she certainly held her own! She placed 5th on the beam in level 6. Well done on this fantastic achievement Jean-Marie!
Year 8 English
One of the first tasks in Term 4 for the Year 8 English class was to produce a 26 word short story in which each letter of the alphabet was used at the beginning of a word The short story was required to have a character/s, and a degree of plot development
Included below are three of the finished productions.
Cupcakes: Lilly Davidson
Odin brought cupcakes to Xanadu, however people weren’t interested, regrettably some looked mouldy, zesty, yucky, kellpe. Everyone desired unopened nice, giant, vanilla jelly flavoured, quinoa.
Friday and Saturday: A joint production by Tayla Connelly, Jess Laidlaw, Abbey Mele and Isabelle Waser
On Saturday, Tayla Connelly, Jess Laidlaw, Abbey Mele and Isabelle go for runs. Fridays we eat KFC zinger burgers. Queen Victoria yells “never dance happy unless xylophone plays”
Zebra Xavier: A joint production by Emelia Cole, Isabelle Radford, Poppy Goodwin and Molly Caldow
Zebra Xavier sneaks onto Queen Ursula’s kingdom, jumps and grabs the crown. Police run hastily behind, yelling “NO WAIT DON’T MOVE!!”. Little Valerie enters, “Its fake!”.
World Teachers’ Day
On Friday 25 October, we celebrated World Teachers' Day, honouring the hard work and passion of our wonderful teaching staff. To mark the occasion, Junior School students, guided by Mrs Harrison and our Education Support staff, took part in a special Library Studies activity where they secretly wrote messages of thanks to their classroom teachers.
These thoughtful notes and illustrations were presented to each teacher on Friday and were warmly received and happily provided (refer to photo of Foundation A class)
It was a special way to close out the week and show appreciation for the incredible impact our teachers have on their students each and every day!
