New Trades Centre Opens: A Vision Becomes Reality

Our Trades Centre is officially open for classes!

What started as a bare patch of dirt back in February has evolved into a sprawling facility that is ready to give our students an amazing headstart in their future careers This ambitious project would not have been possible without the Commonwealth Government's capital grants program, and we extend our sincere gratitude for their support in making this vision a reality.

The Trades Centre represents the successful completion of years of strategic planning, research, and collaboration What began with design concepts from AngliSchools CEO, The Reverend Peter Laurence OAM in 2022, has transformed into a gold-standard facility for modern Technology Education

We can’t thank the team at Crow Constructions enough for building this incredible facility and bringing our vision to life! The same appreciation extends to all contractors who have worked on the project in its various stages. We also have to acknowledge the tirelesss work of Mr Anthony McConnell in getting the facility up and running for the start of Term 4! It has been a huge undertaking and Anthony has been at the forefront of this set up

The Trades Centre positions Cobram Anglican Grammar School as Victoria's only school equipped with industrystandard robotics technology equipment typically found only at university level

Students will have access to cutting-edge tools including laser cutters, water jet cutters, CNC routers, 3D printers, fabricating/welding equipment and automotive

This facility creates unprecedented opportunities for our students to enter career pathways essential to Australia's economic future. The centre will serve as a launching pad for developing the technical skills demanded by modern industries, preparing our young people for the jobs of tomorrow

We envision the Trades Centre becoming a cornerstone of our local region, where successive generations will master the skills needed for skilled trades and emerging industries The learning, innovation, and growth opportunities within this space promise to inspire and equip students for decades to come

We are holding a Trades Centre Community Showcase on Friday 17 October from 7.30am to 9.30am. All school families as well as members of the public are welcome to attend!

Adventure Abounds at Book Week Celebrations

Our annual Book Week parade was once again a resounding success, showcasing the incredible imagination, creativity, and effort that our school community brings to this beloved tradition From elaborate homemade costumes to clever literary interpretations, students, staff, and families truly outdid themselves this year.

The parade was a visual feast of beloved characters coming to life. We saw everything from classic fairy tale heroes and villains to contemporary favorites, with each costume telling its own unique story. The dedication shown by our families in creating these amazing outfits was evident in every detail, and the joy on students' faces as they paraded in character was absolutely priceless

Our fantastic MCs kept the energy high and the crowd engaged throughout the event. Mr O'Dwyer, along with student leaders Alina, Mackenzie, and Abigail, did an outstanding job entertaining the audience and ensuring every participant felt celebrated as they took their moment in the spotlight!

The Book Week parade continues to be one of our most cherished school traditions, bringing together our entire community in celebration of literacy, creativity, and the magic of storytelling We're already looking forward to seeing what amazing costumes next year will bring!

Year 10s Marvel At Melbourne Landmarks

Our Year 10 students recently returned from an unforgettable three-day camp in Melbourne, packed with enriching experiences, team-building activities, and plenty of fun.

The adventure began at the Melbourne Aquarium, where students explored marine life up close, followed by an eye-opening session at The Big Issue Classroom learning about social enterprise and homelessness Day one concluded with stunning sunset views from the Eureka Skydeck Edge Experience and a relaxing stroll for ice cream along the Yarra River.

Day two brought even more excitement as students tried their hand at ice skating at O'Brien's Icehouse, explored immersive art at Artvo, and worked together to crack codes in an escape room challenge at Saboteurs The afternoon was a sports lover's dream a behind-the-scenes tour of the iconic MCG, exploring the Australian Sports Museum, and an inspiring meet-and-greet with Olympian Tess Lloyd. The day wrapped up with an adrenaline-pumping rock climbing session at Hardrock.

On the final day, students delved into Melbourne's legal history through a thoughtprovoking Court Room Drama experience focused on culpable driving. They also toured the historic Watch House and Old Melbourne Gaol, gaining insights into Australia's criminal justice past before heading home

The camp provided our Year 10 cohort with valuable learning opportunities outside the classroom, strengthened friendships, and created memories that will last well beyond their school years.

2025 Deb Ball Double The Fun

Over the Term 2 holidays, a dedicated group of Year 11 students committed themselves to an intensive dance program in preparation for our two Debutante Balls, held on 18 and 19 July at the Finley RSC.

It was a truly memorable weekend as we proudly presented 16 students and their partners across two beautiful evenings of celebration and community connection. To our debutantes and partners, congratulations on reaching this special milestone You all looked wonderful, and the grace and confidence you demonstrated on the dance floor was a delight to see.

Our sincere thanks go to everyone who contributed to making these evenings so successful. We appreciate the warm hospitality of the team at Finley RSC, who provided such an excellent venue. Special recognition goes to staff members Amy Duhring, Sue Charlton and Carolyn White for their extensive planning and coordination Thank you also to Lauren White for the beautiful cake, Rhonda Doyle for her wonderful photography, and Jade Camden for entertaining us brilliantly across both nights.

We were delighted to welcome 2024 graduate Jett Robbins back to Cobram AGS lead the intensive dance program. Jett's skill, energy and professionalism shone throughout, and his leadership as dance coordinator was outstanding a real credit to his talent

Finally, to our participating students and families, thank you for your enthusiasm and support throughout the entire process. Your involvement made these two evenings truly special and brought our school community together in celebration.

Celebrating Special Men at

Father's Day Breakfast

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Father's Day Breakfast! The turnout was fantastic, and it was wonderful to see our students celebrating their dads, step-dads and special others.

The delicious bacon and egg breakfast wouldn't have been possible without the amazing work of the Rotary Club of Cobram team, who once again did an outstanding job on the BBQ

We were also incredibly grateful to the local businesses who generously donated prizes for our lucky door raffle: TerryWhite Chemmart Cobram, Cobram Outdoors, Cobram Betta Home Living, Noonans Showcase Jewellers, Supreme Meats, and The Corner Shop Cobram.

Your support helped make this event so special for our school community!

F-2 Students Ready For Gingerbread Man Performance

In Music class throughout Term 3, students in Foundation to Year 2 have been busy learning 'The Gingerbread Man'.

They’ve been enthusiastically practising lines, songs, dances and even playing instruments – all in preparation for a special performance for family and friends in Term 4

If the early rehearsals are anything to go by, this show is going to be a treat for our school community!

You can catch their performances on Thursday 6 November from 2.15pm in the PAC and again on Friday 7 November from 5.30pm in the PAC.

Farewell And Thank You To Our Sports Carnival Stalwarts!

Our Year 5-12 Athletics Carnival marked the end of a very special chapter for the Brooker family. It was the final time Renee and Wayne would be lending a helping hand at our sporting carnivals, with their youngest daughter Abigail completing Year 12 this year.

Since their eldest child Rory first enrolled at Cobram AGS in 2010, Renee and Wayne have been unwavering in their commitment to supporting our school community at these events

Over the years, they have become familiar and reassuring faces at our sporting events, easily recognised in their trademark red Cowell attire as they pitched in with set-up and pack-up duties.

Rain, hail or shine, the Brookers were always there, embodying the true spirit of community involvement that makes our school such a special place Their willingness to roll up their sleeves and help, time and time again, has not gone unnoticed

As we get set to farewell this wonderful family from our school community, we want to express our sincere gratitude to Renee and Wayne. Thank you for your generosity, your time, and the positive spirit you have brought to countless sporting events since 2010. Your contribution has made a real difference, and you will be greatly missed.

You will always be welcome back to Cobram AGS!

Wayne, Renee and Abigail Brooker at their final school sports carnival.

Community Corner

Quickfire Bake Sale Raises Funds For Samoa In Just 48 Hours

Our Student Forum proved that great things can happen quickly when our community works together. Just two days after finalising their plans, the Forum coordinated a successful bake sale that raised over $400 in notes (with final counting completed shortly after).

The rapid turnaround was made possible by enthusiastic students and supportive families who responded to the call with homemade treats and eager participation

All funds raised supported our sister school, All Saints Samoa, delivered personally by Year 10 student Peter Everingham during his service trip over the Term 3 holidays.

Thank you to our Student Forum for their leadership and initiative, and to families who helped make this possible at short notice. It was another excellent example of our school community coming together for a meaningful cause

Diabetes Fundraiser an A1 Success

On August 23, Year 5 student Alice Lebner and her family organised an incredible fundraiser at the Cobram Football Netball Club to support and raise awareness for the Type 1 Foundation This initiative stemmed from Alice's diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes earlier this year

Driven to make a significant impact, the Lebner family, with the backing of Cobram FNC, Congupna FNC, and the Type 1 Foundation, united our community for what turned out to be a remarkably successful day filled with generosity, awareness, and support for families living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Remarkably, over $10,000 was raised for the Type 1 Foundation, showcasing an incredible display of community spirit and goodwill Alice and her family can take great pride not only in the funds raised but also in the awareness generated about the potential warning signs of Type 1 Diabetes and the complex challenges of managing this condition.

A huge congratulations to the Lebner family for your outstanding efforts in making this event a reality!

Foundation Students Celebrate 100 Days of Learning Adventures

On 15 August, our Foundation students reached an exciting milestone their 100th day of school! The special occasion was celebrated with the bright and cheerful dress-up theme, "100 Days Brighter!"

Throughout the day, students enjoyed a variety of fun, hands-on activities all centered around the number 100. The celebrations concluded with a special visit from their Year 6 buddies, adding to the joy of the day

It has been wonderful welcoming these enthusiastic young learners into our school community this year We look forward to many more days of learning, friendship and growth together!

School Choir Dazzle in Community

Our School Choir delivered a beautiful performance at the Uniting Church's fundraising luncheon, singing for approximately 120 guests.

The students presented a diverse 20minute repertoire that showcased their developing vocal talents. The invitation came from Margaret Watson, who was captivated by the choir's performance at our Term 2 Arts Showcase and personally requested their return for this special community event

Following the performance, Mrs Chmiel received a gracious gift of appreciation, while the students enjoyed homemade sausage rolls and cakes. The Choir continues to flourish with each performance, and we're grateful to the Uniting Church for their warm hospitality and the opportunity to share our students' gifts with the wider community.

The Dawn of New Beginnings at Taster Day

On August 28, we were thrilled to welcome both enrolled and prospective Foundation students for 2026, along with their families, to another memorable Taster Day!

Families participated in various activities, helping the children create crafty lions

They enjoyed a storytime session led by Mrs Cox and explored our playground

We were also lucky to have a wonderful group of Year 5 helpers, who spent the morning engaging with our young guests.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the day. The Foundation 2026 journey will be upon us before we know it!

Year 7 Pair Collect Art Awards

Two of our Year 7 students were acknowledged for their exceptional creativity at the Cobram Lions Art Show, which took place on August 16

Bella Broderick’s work was selected for the overall prize in the 10–14 years category, winning the major award of $250 with her impressive artwork. Her piece was chosen as the best from all entries across the three sections for this age group!

Angelina McKay secured first place in the Tourism Poster section, and her artwork also won the People’s Choice award a fantastic double achievement!

Congratulations to both students on your well-deserved success!

VM Book Sale Ignites Passion For Reading

As part of their Personal Development Skills (PDS) studies, our Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students recently planned and implemented a community-focused project that addressed multiple issues in a single initiative.

On Thursday 11 September, the Year 12s organised a Second-Hand Book Swap for Foundation to Year 6 students. The project was designed to respond to three key concerns: environmental book waste, the financial cost of purchasing new books for families, and the growing challenge of maintaining reading engagement among young children

In the weeks prior to the event, families and staff generously donated quality second-hand books, which were collected in Junior School classrooms. The response was outstanding, with over 400 books made available for students to browse and take home.

The Book Swap provided a wonderful opportunity for younger students to access free reading materials while promoting sustainability and fostering a love of literacy. It also demonstrated the leadership capabilities and community awareness of our VCE VM cohort.

Thank you to all families and staff who contributed to this initiative It was a meaningful project with benefits felt across the school

Principal’s Message

There’s a lot happening in and around our school that I would like to share with you.

Our new Trades Centre is really starting to take shape, and it’s exciting to see years of planning and hard work coming together. This project represents a big step forward for our school and will open up so many new opportunities for students in the years ahead We are conducting a Showcase of the facility on Friday October 17, all are welcome to attend!

I am delighted to announce that we have completed the process of selecting our 2026 School Captains. This is always such an inspiring time, as we see our students step forward with a willingness to serve and lead. Our 2026 student leaders will be Matilda Waser, Savannah Kernaghan, Olivia Thompson and Miley Driscoll.

I also take this opportunity to thank Regan Rouse, Mackenzie Duhring, Alina Corso and Abigail Brooker for their fine leadership and support over the past year They really have conducted themselves with aplomb and represented the school in a quality manner.

In recent Principals’ meetings, there’s been lots of discussion about how schools can best prepare students for a fast-changing future while making sure they feel safe, supported, and connected. That balance really is at the heart of what we try to do here every day at Cobram AGS The emergence of AI really is a new frontier for so many workplaces and in education we too will have to consider how to best harness and use AI for healthy and productive outcomes

I would also like to flag that in Term 4 we will be looking at providing social media workshops for all students across Years 3 to 10. These workshops will be conducted by Victoria Police and will be age appropriate. In the past these workshops have been terrific.

And finally, a date to circle on your calendar Friday 29 November This will be our 25-year celebration, a really special milestone for Cobram Anglican Grammar School. We would love to see as many people as possible there past and present families, students, and friends. Please help us spread the word so we can make this a wonderful community celebration.

Thank you all for the part you play in making our school such a vibrant and supportive community.

Anglican Identity With Ms Shea Doyle

We recently acknowledged the Season of Creation.

Each year, Christians across the world dedicate the month of September to celebrating God’s beautiful earth and reaffirming our shared commitment to care for and restore it.

The Season of Creation serves as a reminder of our sacred responsibility as stewards of the earth It encourages us to pause and reflect on how we might better nurture, protect, and sustain the environment entrusted to us

In recent Chapel Services, our school leaders drew our attention to the richness of God’s creation by preparing a Prayer Table adorned with symbols of the natural world.

These included:

The gift of soil and seeds, which sustain life.

The gift of water, from vast oceans to the smallest droplets

The gift of trees, providing beauty, shelter, and renewal

The gift of creatures, whether they roam the land, swim in the waters, or soar in the skies

The gift of plants, both great and small, colourful and life-giving.

After a rewarding and enriching term, we now look forward to the rest and renewal that spring brings.

Junior School Report

In the last weeks of Term 3, we celebrated our wonderful Education Support Staff

Our team go above and beyond each and every day to ensure that student needs are met. Not only do they support in classrooms, run intervention programmes, answer telephones, enter data, sort and order library books, produce newsletters and notes (just to name some of the things they do), they help teachers put up displays, photocopy and be a support for us in our rooms. Thank you for always being available to support the team when we need you!

In the last week of the term, we had numerous incursions The F-2 year levels enjoyed Twisted Science which complemented their learnings around chemical science and chemical changes.

Senior School Report

With Mr John Thompson

The busy Senior School never stops, and Term 3 this year was no exception. We began the term by finalising course counselling for our Year 10 students.

These interviews helped shape key decisions around student pathways through the VCE for 2026 and 2027, with both VCE and VCE-VM options available to all students at Cobram AGS. We continue to offer a broad range of subjects, regardless of the pathways of our students, and I’m pleased that though this process the VCE courses for our Year 10 students were well matched in supporting their goals.

Term 3 also saw the near completion of the Trades Centre, an exciting development for our school and one that we hope will continue to bring enrolments and opportunities for our learning community

Anthony McConnell has spent many long nights and weekends making sure it’s as ready to go for Term 4 as it possibly can be, and we’re excited to be opening it up to the community on the second Friday of Term 4. Come in for a look and spread the word about the fantastic facility we have.

“The explosion was the best” – Archie P “I liked mixing the chemicals” – Poppy

We also enjoyed the Bell Shakespeare play titled Bottom's Dream: 'Bottom has had a most rare vision. He's just woken up in the forest after a strange dream involving fairies, magic flowers and donkey ears Was it just a dream, or was it real?' Sometimes incursions are just fun!

Towards the end of Term 3, we start finalising our dates for Term 4, in particular transition dates for our 2026 Foundation children. On the last five Tuesdays of the term, the current Foundation students will transition to the Year 1-2s and the current Year 2s will experience school as a Year 3.

The logistics of the Nativity Play, Mrs Chmiel's Musical 'The Gingerbread Man', school camps – Year 3-4s to Alexandra and the Year 5-6s to Ballarat – sleepovers (Year 2s) and the Junior school Swimming Programme (F-6),indicate that there is so much to look forward to! Just a reminder that there is a public holiday in the term and a student free day on the 3rd and 4th of November

We welcomed several guest speakers this term, with a strong focus on careers and pathways. Our Virtual Careers Day, RoadSmart Interactive Roadshow Tour and a visit from the ADF provided valuable insights and options for life beyond school.

At the time of writing, Year 10 student Peter Everingham is in Samoa, continuing his and our school’s commitment to service learning As part of a broader AngliSchools delegation, they are working alongside students and teachers at All Saints in Samoa to support educational development. It’s a significant commitment and an unforgettable experience for Peter, and I look forward to the stories of his trip on return.

As always, we came together as a school community for our Father’s Day Breakfast and Book Week parade. The creativity and enthusiasm in costume design were outstanding, and it was wonderful to see families on campus celebrating together On the sporting front, highlights included our Athletics Carnival, the Year 8 girls Badminton team competing at State level and our three teams competing in the Bourinjin Challenge as part of ASHEfest

Our Year 12 students face a short but crucial final stretch. I wish you all the best in your exam preparations. Keep leaning on each other and seeking the help of your teachers we are always here to support you.

Badminton Quartet Challenge Victoria’s Best!

Jas Races to National Success

Year 7 student Jas Brown represented Victoria at the Cross Country Nationals for Athletics Australia in Ballarat on Saturday 23 August, competing in the under 14s 3km event

Facing a competitive field of 79 athletes from across the country, Jas delivered an exceptional performance, finishing 9th overall and claiming the honour of being the first Victorian team member across the line in his age group.

His outstanding efforts contributed to Victoria securing a silver medal in the team competition – a tremendous achievement at the highest level of school sport!

Jas earned his place at Nationals after qualifying through the All Schools State event in July. His dedication to training and natural talent have certainly paid dividends, and we couldn't be prouder of his efforts.

On 12 September, our Year 7/8 Badminton team represented Cobram AGS at the SSV State Championships Team members Jessica Voeurn, Vanessa Voeurn, Angelina McKay and Melody Su competed against the best schools from across Victoria in what proved to be an exceptional day of sport

The girls delivered an outstanding performance throughout the competition, winning two matches and drawing one of their three group stage encounters Their impressive results secured them a place in the semi-finals – a tremendous achievement in itself Although they narrowly missed out on a spot in the final, finishing in the top four schools in the state is something the entire school community can celebrate!

This result is particularly remarkable given our school's size and rural location. To compete at such an elite level and perform so strongly demonstrates not only the girls' skill, but also their excellent sportsmanship and teamwork. Jessica, Vanessa, Angelina and Melody – you have made us incredibly proud!

A big thank you to Mrs Carolyn White for her commitment in driving the team to Melbourne and supporting our students on the day. Opportunities like this are invaluable for our students, and we greatly appreciate Mrs White's dedication in making this experience possible.

Congratulations once again to our talented badminton team on this outstanding achievement!
