A word from the Principal
With Keith Willett
Dear Parents, Carers, and Students,
I trust today’s edition of ‘What’s On’ finds all in good health and spirits.
This past fortnight at Cobram Anglican Grammar School has been filled with meaningful activity and strong community spirit. We were proud to see such terrific involvement from our students and families across a number of ANZAC Day events
Our Junior School Choir performed beautifully at both the Cobram ANZAC Day Service and the Cobram Regional Care ANZAC Service, with all participating students acting as outstanding ambassadors for our school Their respectful contributions were a credit to them and warmly appreciated by the wider community.
We’ve also received fantastic feedback from the Year 11 camp in Melbourne, with students engaging enthusiastically in a range of enriching experiences and representing the school with maturity and positivity
As we wrap up a busy and successful week, we now look forward with excitement to our upcoming Cross Country event on Monday and our Mother’s Day Breakfast on Friday –always major highlights on the school calendar.
Warm regards, Keith
Anzac Day
Last Friday, our school community came together to proudly participate in ANZAC Day services held right across the district It was fantastic to see so many of our students, their families, and staff attending ceremonies in Cobram-Barooga, Tocumwal, Strathmerton, Numurkah, Katamatite, Yarrawonga, Nathalia, and Berrigan to honour the service and sacrifice of our veterans.
Many of our students took on active roles within their local services marching in parades, laying wreaths on behalf of our school, and demonstrating deep respect for the significance of the day A standout moment was the beautiful performance by our School Choir at the Cobram 10am service, where they sang ‘Side by Side’ to a large and appreciative crowd. This performance was a wonderful reflection of the talent within our Music program, and we thank Mrs Chmiel and the Choir for their outstanding contribution.
As a school, we believe strongly in the importance of educating the next generation about the ANZAC legacy Our young people play a vital role in keeping the stories, values, and sacrifices of our servicemen and servicewomen alive for future generations.
Year 11 Camp
From Tuesday to Friday this week, our Year 11 students participated in an exciting and informative careers camp down in Melbourne which combined career exploration, further education opportunities, and personal development
As part of their Senior School and Career Education programs, students visited the 2025 VCE and Careers Expo, gaining valuable insights into future pathways. The Expo provided access to a wide range of resources and advice, including information about VCE, university and TAFE options, apprenticeships, international exchange programs, and accommodation choices
Throughout the week, students toured various university and TAFE campuses, attending presentations and learning about what different providers have to offer For the VCE Vocational Major group, the camp also featured activities focused on their Personal Development Skills curriculum.
On Wednesday, all students visited RMIT and Swinburne University. At Swinburne, they had the chance to catch up with former Cobram AGS students Thomas Corso and Clive Cromack, who are currently studying there The contrast between campuses was notable RMIT offered a very urban, inner-city experience, while Swinburne had a smaller, more community-oriented feel that resonated with many students.
On Thursday, VCE students travelled to Deakin University in Burwood, where they explored the campus and spent time in the residential community areas to get a feel for student life Later in the day, they headed to Monash University's Clayton campus for a guided tour Highlights included visiting the residences of former students Emily Orside, Cody Lincoln, and Jordan Su, who joined the group and shared their experiences and insights into life at university.
Beyond the academic and career-oriented aspects, students navigated Melbourne using public transport and developed independence while exploring the city in small groups during designated personal shopping time It was a fantastic opportunity for students to broaden their horizons and begin shaping their future beyond secondary school.
ANZAC Day Reflections at Cobram Regional Care
On Thursday this week, our School Captains and Student Forum representatives attended a morning tea and ANZAC Day service with residents at Cobram Regional Care. This opportunity came about following an invitation from the Cobram-Barooga RSL SubBranch last year, asking us to take on a greater leadership role in future commemorative events a responsibility our students have proudly accepted
Mackenzie Duhring and Abigail Brooker led the proceedings as MCs and were fantastic, Regan Rouse delivered the opening prayer, and Alina Corso laid a wreath on behalf of our school Peyton Royston and Peter Everingham managed the audio, while Baden Riedell was responsible for raising the flag.
Lewis Brown played the Last Post on his bugle and did a sterling job as always! The Junior Choir accompanied by Mrs Chmiel sang ‘Side by Side’, a moving performance that was thoroughly enjoyed by the residents
We also acknowledge the students from other local schools who supported the service by delivering readings Their involvement added to the shared sense of reflection and remembrance.
On Thursday this week, Harlin Robbins (Year 9) and a member of our Sports Academy, represented the school at the SSV State Swimming Championships held at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre
Harlin competed in two events In the 15 Boys 50m Backstroke, he finished 6th, achieving a personal best time of 34 42 seconds! He also swam in the 12–15 Boys 200m Individual Medley, placing 8th overall
This was an invaluable opportunity for Harlin to compete against the best swimmers from across the state and he certainly did us and himself proud! Well done Harlin on your amazing efforts to make it through to the state champs!
