Run Club Takes Off

Looking to boost your fitness, make new friends, and enjoy the great outdoors?

Our school Run Club might be just the thing for you! Led by experienced runne and Senior School teacher Mr Dean Barnes, this energetic crew meets every Tuesday at lunchtime, heading over to the Sports Stadium complex to go for a run together which can be up 5km

Whether you're chasing a personal best or just beginning your fitness journey, the Run Club welcomes all levels. It's a fun, supportive way to get active and be part of a growing community. Mr Barnes started the club because he is passiona about seeing young people being active and considers running a great way to improve mental wellbeing

He also loves coaching young runners as they gradually build their consistency and improve their technique through subtle changes

For anyone interested in joining the Run Club, please see Mr Barnes at school

This week, our Year 9/10 Technology elective students had the opportunity to assist small groups of Year 5/6 students in a hands-on design session using Tinkercad – an introductory program for 3D modelling

The younger students were guided through the process of designing their own keyrings, which were then brought to life using the school’s new 3D printers.

The session not only gave the 5/6 students a fun and practical introduction to digital design, but also allowed our senior students to reinforce their own understanding by supporting others through the creative process

It was a wonderful example of peer collaboration, and a great showcase of the innovative tools now being used in our Technology program.

Year 11 Blazer Presentation Ceremony

One of the most significant milestones in the Cobram AGS school calendar took place last Thursday with the official Year 11 Blazer Presentation Ceremony. This event marks an important rite of passage for our Year 11 students, who are now into their final years of secondary education and undertaking the responsibilities of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). Receiving the school blazer is more than a simple uniform addition it represents the trust and expectations the school places in its senior students, and it signals their evolving role as leaders within our school community.

The blazer itself holds deep symbolic value at Cobram AGS It is a visible reminder of the high standards, commitment, and integrity expected of our senior students Wearing it is a privilege and an honour a tradition that links past and present students and instils a sense of pride and identity

We congratulate our Year 11 students on reaching this significant point in their educational journey and look forward to supporting them as they grow into their senior roles with confidence and purpose

Kinder Visits Continue

Our Kinder visits have rolled on this past fortnight. Last week we welcomed Tocumwal’s Little Explorers and this week it was Eilleen Taylor Kindergarten. These curious little learners got to visit the Foundation classroom, Library, Music Room and of course, the playground! Many of the visiting children have close ties to our school community with siblings, cousins, or parents on staff making the experience all the more special!

A big thank you to both kindergartens!

Lions Public Speaking Competition

Last Thursday, our PAC was filled with energy and enthusiasm as nine outstanding young speakers took to the lectern for the Lions Junior Public Speaking Competition. Students from the Year 5/6 cohort and Year 1/2C were treated to a series of thought-provoking presentations exploring the topics Creative Invention and Is Technology Moving Too Fast?

Following impressive speeches in their class rounds, the following students were selected to represent their year levels in the Lions competition.

Year 3/4 Speakers: Valerie Strauss, Frankie Lean, Grace Kelly, Ava Cunningham, Arveen Gill

Year 5/6 Speakers: Rangani Hewarathne, Mia Hayward, Koa Wilson, Oliver Adkins

Their speeches were marked by strong research, confident delivery, and engaging content making the task of judging incredibly difficult.

Congratulations to our award recipients:

Mia Hayward – Year 5/6 Outstanding Speaker

Oliver Adkins – Year 5/6 Runner-Up

Ava Cunningham – Year 3/4 Outstanding Speaker

Arveen Gill – Year 3/4 Runner-Up

All nine speakers should be exceptionally proud of their efforts Public speaking takes immense courage, especially in front of a large audience and adjudicating panel, and every student displayed commendable poise and confidence We now look forward to cheering on Mia, Oliver, Ava, and Arveen as they progress to the next stage of the competition. Best of luck we know you'll represent Cobram AGS with pride!

Vocational Major Careers Expo

Last week, our VCE Vocational Major students hosted a terrific Careers Expo for the Year 6 cohort, bringing to life a project that involved researching and presenting information about a career of their choice. As part of their preparation, students explored the qualifications and education required for their selected profession, looked into the skills needed for success in the field, and considered how they could begin building those skills now

Each VM student was tasked with creating a short presentation to introduce themselves and their chosen career, to the Year 6 students. After the presentations the Expo swung into gear as students readily engaged with the VM students and the materials at their stalls. The stalls were informative and well-prepared, covering a broad range of careers including the police force, hospitality, personal training, electrical trades, beauty, and Veterinary Sciences to name a few

Well done to our VM students for their effort and planning in delivering a meaningful learning experience for both themselves and their younger peers

This Friday, 14 students (Junior and Senior School) travelled to Benalla to compete in the Hume Region Cross Country event. Facing tough competition from across the region, each student put in a strong performance and represented our school with great effort and sportsmanship.

There were some amazing efforts across the day, with three students securing a podium finish! In total, four students achieved a top 12 finish and have subsequently qualified for the State Championships:

•Jasper Brown – 1st

•Sam Brown – 2nd

•Aiden Power – 3rd

•Jess Laidlaw – 10th

Well done to these four students and indeed all our runners for representing the school! We can’t wait to see how Jasper, Sam, Aiden and Jess perform at State!
