What’s On

The Official Newsletter of Cobram Anglican Grammar School

A word from the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers, and Students,

I trust this edition of ‘What’s On’ finds all in good health and spirits

It’s been a very busy yet energising couple of weeks at Cobram Anglican Grammar School, and I’m thrilled to share some highlights with you.

In a new initiative for the school, we held a Year 7 Dinner and Information Evening last Tuesday at the Italian Social Club which saw over 100 people in attendance; made up of our current Year 6 students and families, as well as prospective families

The positive atmosphere throughout the evening was fantastic as we outlined our vision for the future It was especially pleasing to follow this up with nearly 50 students participating in our Year 7 Taster Day on Wednesday a fantastic opportunity for these young learners to explore life in the Senior School and begin forming new connections in anticipation of beginning secondary school

I’d also like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to our Parents and Friends team, whose hard work and coordination made this year’s Mother's Day Stall a great success once again And finally, I’d like to extend my appreciation to the nearly 200 members of our school community who joined us at school for our annual Mother’s Day Breakfast last Friday. It was a joyful celebration of the many wonderful women who play such integral roles in the lives of our students, and a beautiful reminder of the strength of connection that defines our community

Mother’s Day Breakfast

Last Friday our school community came together in a meaningful way for our annual Mother’s Day Breakfast and what a special morning it was!

We were delighted to welcome so many mums, grandmas, aunts, and special guests to the PAC for a wonderful event filled with connection, music, and delicious food.

A huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Cobram for serving up mouthwatering egg and bacon rolls, and to our wonderful Year 12 students, Ms Doyle, and Mrs White for keeping the coffee flowing with their expert barista skills! Our talented ukulele group once again lit up the room with their harmonies, creating an awesome atmosphere

Some lucky attendees also walked away with some amazing lucky door prizes thanks to the very generous support of some local businesses in our community. A huge thanks go to Osroc Hairdressing, Indulge Beauty By LeShae, Noonans Showcase Jewellers, Terry White Chemmart Cobram, and Ambience Bakery/Café for kindly contributing to the prize pool and making the event even more special!

We hope all our mums and special others had the best day last Sunday!

2026 Year 7 Dinner

We’d like to thank all families who joined us at the Italian Social Club last Tuesday for our 2026 Year 7 Dinner and Information Evening It was a fantastic night filled with connection, conversation, and a shared excitement for what lies ahead We trust those who were present found the night to be informative, painting a clear picture about the school’s vision for the future.

Thanks to our wonderful presenters, Mr Thompson, Mr O’Dwyer, Mr McConnell, Mrs Rathbone, Jade Drew and Narelle Schreenan for providing such detailed information on all things, Senior School, Sports Academy, Technology, Education Support, Careers, and school Masterplan!

A special note of appreciation for Alison Orwin (Year 8) and Mackenzie Duhring (Year 12) for speaking so confidently about their student experiences at Cobram AGS your insights were a highlight of the evening We’re also grateful to our Year 10 Project Ready volunteers Maddie x2, Beck, Shawn, Ely, Hana, and Patrick who represented the school beautifully while helping with dinner service and clean-up.

With two Year 7 classes already confirmed for 2026, it’s safe to say we’re very excited about the journey ahead!

As part of our Careers program, our Year 9 and Project Ready students recently took part in Careers Day Out one of the largest education, training, and employment expos in Northern Victoria

Held in Shepparton, the event offered students a unique opportunity to explore a wide range of career pathways and engage directly with industry professionals, training providers, and employers from across the region From hands-on activities to inspiring conversations, students were encouraged to consider their goals and aspirations while learning about the many options available to them after school.

included interactive exhibits from GOTAFE, information on ADF Gap Year programs, and the chance to explore university offerings from La Trobe University’s Shepparton campus Students also learned about local employment and work experience opportunities, including those at Saputo Dairy Australia

Careers Day Out was a valuable and engaging experience, equipping students with insights and ideas to help guide their future choices

This week, Year 5/6 W took part in a creative and reflective activity at the school’s Yarning Circle, exploring the Indigenous understanding of the creation of the earth. Students worked together to create a large chalk artwork filled with symbols of God’s creation including native animals, birds, plants, and landscapes. Inspired by Safina Stewart’s “7 Days of Creation,” the circle captured places and creatures that make them feel grounded and connected

They then traced their bare feet around the artwork to form a ring of footprints, symbolising the idea of “walking softly” on Country The session ended with a group reflection, where students shared what the artwork meant to them and added a caption and title to complete the piece. The class thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Yarning Circle and utilising this peaceful space. It was a great chance to express themselves, honour Indigenous perspectives, and celebrate the wonder of God’s creation in a way that was creative.

Cedric is our Youngstar

Our first Senior School assembly for Term 2 was a truly special occasion as we came together to celebrate the achievements of our students and recognise the values of hard work, perseverance and service to the community. We were especially proud to formally acknowledge Year 10 student Cedric Pang as the Moira Shire Council Youngstar Achiever of the Year.

Cedric was overseas during the official awards ceremony earlier this year, so we took this opportunity to honour his outstanding academic achievements and contributions to the community in front of his peers

We extend our sincere thanks to Dr Graeme Emonson and Susan Benadyka, Moira Shire administrators, who joined us to present Cedric with his certificate and trophy. It was a proud moment for Cedric, his family, and the entire school community – a reminder of the incredible things that can be achieved through commitment and hard work The assembly also highlighted the efforts of many other students across a wide range of school activities

Whether it was encouraging peers at the Cross Country Carnival, volunteering as waiters the Year 7 Dinner, or all-round consistent effort and application in completing classwork to a high standard, every contribution was celebrated.

Well done to all of our Senior students for your efforts this term – both big and small Keep up the great work!

Trades Centre Update

Our Trades Centre build is progressing nicely, and we’re excited to share the latest developments

Some significant milestones have been reached: The roof is now in place, and internal wall framing has been completed Electricians are making excellent progress installing the extensive network of cabling throughout the facility. Our contractors have been working closely with the school team to ensure that every detail from equipment placement to data ports and power points is thoughtfully positioned and fully functional, ready for use next semester

We look forward to seeing the continued transformation of this exciting new space and can’t wait to open the doors to students soon!
