What’s On at Cobram AGS

The Official Newsletter of Cobram Anglican Grammar School

A word from the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers, and Students,

This is the penultimate week for the Year 12 students of 2024. They have been a wonderful group of young people and we wish them a great couple of days next Monday and Tuesday as they finish up with their studies and celebrations They are certainly looking forward to celebrating their last day on Tuesday, as well as the dinner and sleepover at school on Monday

There has been plenty of extracurricular activity after school hours with our Year 10 Foods students cooking for their invited guests at the Serving Others Dinner Party on Thursday night. The manner in which the students conducted themselves and the fare they produced was a credit to their hard work and the efforts of their teachers in Mrs White and Mrs Raco

This evening we look forward to the Parents and Friends Trivia Night. This promises to be a night of fun and frivolity and I thank the P&F for their efforts in bringing the school community together for this event.

And I am especially pleased to be able to welcome back to school Father Victor Adams after his period of leave. We look forward to Father Victor once again running our Chapel services and shining a light on our Anglican Identity

Science Faculty Receives Generous Support from P&F

We are thrilled to announce that our school’s Science Lab is now equipped with 12 new Extreme Monocular Microscopes, valued at over $4500, thanks to the fundraising efforts and support of our Parents and Friends (P&F) group The P&F has donated half of the required funds, raised largely through the success of the Father’s Day Stall in Term 3.

Science teacher Ms Sara Keane highlighted the big improvements these microscopes bring, offering clearer focus and detail when examining different samples. Students can now explore finer details such as hair structures, cheek cells, insect cells, and fibres with greater clarity The new microscopes will enhance learning and engagement in both general Science for Years 710 and electives such as Forensic Science and Biology.

These microscopes complement other recent improvements in the Science Lab such as new incubators, aimed at creating a more efficient learning environment.

Thank you once again to our P&F and the school community for supporting the Father’s Day Stall

Sports Academy Students First Aid Qualified

Our Year 10 Sports Academy students successfully completed their first aid training on Tuesday as part of the requirements for their Certificate II in Coaching in Sport.

The training focused on the "Provide First Aid" unit of competency As part of the assessment, students undertook a short answer test, consisting of 61 multiple choice questions, followed by a practical observation led by qualified instructor Bruce Roberton from IVET. All students passed both the test and the practical assessment competently and successfully. Well done!

Foods Students Embrace “Serving Others”

On Thursday evening at school, Year 9/10 students from the "Serving Others" elective put their culinary skills to the test by designing and producing a carefully planned 3-course dinner for their invited guests

The evening showcased an impressive array of dishes, starting with mouthwatering entrees, followed by delicious mains, and concluding with a delightful dessert buffet.

The event was a tremendous success, with guests thoroughly enjoying the carefully prepared courses. Students embraced the challenge and gained valuable insight into the fast-paced environment of the hospitality industry.

While they certainly felt the pressure, their hard work and teamwork in the kitchen shone through, resulting in a memorable culinary experience for all!

Year 7s Write to Year 12s

On Thursday afternoon, a special moment unfolded as our Year 7 students presented letters and illustrations to the Year 12s, wishing them all the best for their futures. The thoughtful gesture touched the Year 12 students, many of whom were moved by the kind words of encouragement from their younger peers.

As the Year 12s prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives, they reflected on their own journeys, recalling that it wasn’t too long ago that they were in the shoes of the Year 7s They shared some advice with the Year 7 class, particularly around study pathways and making the most of the opportunities they are afforded at school.
