You stare at the sight in front of you for the longest time You can’t understand the mushy lump of emotions in your heart as you see fellow students, teachers, and various volunteers interacting with their community In such a way, you feel compelled to join in as children and their parents; thank you and your group for your aid, with smiles so honest and grateful, you can’t help but return the gesture Some of you are giving out toys and books to the children who gleefully hold what they’ve just received A lot of you strongly carry boxes and bags filled with food and necessities to the adults Every face that you come across is filled with happiness and gratitude The sensation of the chilly winds of December on your skin snaps you back into reality.
You hear your name called by the outreach coordinator; it’s your turn to hand over the donated goods and toys to the community of Gawad Kalinga Cabug The Taytungian community has been involved with the GK Cabug since 2017. In the span of five years, they have been dedicated to giving the community the resources, experiences, and aid they need They heard the stories of ceaseless hardship, love, and sacrifice They connected with the admirable people of GK Cabug and witnessed their passion as one unified community Inspired, they brought together the Taytungian community with a mission to evoke the spirit of unity amongst themselves and GK Cabug through servitude fueled by generosity

A Village of Love and Diversity— The Taytungian Christmas Love
By: Julianna Jacildo and Paige Paypon
Christmas is the season of love, joy, and giving With this, the Junior High School students of Bacolod Tay Tung High School reawakened the Tay Tung Christmas Spirit by preparing a Christmas village for the children of Gawad Kalinga-Cabug
The Christmas Village project is an interdisciplinary performance task headed by the Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP) department Its thrust is to strengthen collaboration, leadership, and camaraderie among junior high school students The students were divided into four-
groups with the respective themes, namely; the First Christmas, White Christmas, Latin-American Christmas, and Filipino-Chinese Christmas
Each of the groups created lifesized booths to bring the Christmas culture from all around the world into the campus The Grade 10 students led and spearheaded every team, while the Grade 7 and 8 built the booths The creation lasted for three weeks, which truly showed the dedication of the students to make the impossible
On December 9, 2022, the ribbons were cut, and officially opened the village to the public. During the program, the Grade 9 students presented a short dance presentation to make showcase the spirit of Christmas in every culture The children surely had so much fun visiting the Christmas village, purchasing some drinks, and taking part in the many activities that each booth had planned

ROTC—A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD
Upon reaching higher education, one is presented with many choices Among these choices is participation in extracurricular electives and one known among the aforementioned is the Reserve Officer Training Corps, or ROTC, as we commonly refer to it
Through the ROTC program, aspiring student cadets grasp their chance to be among the great heroes and legends of our nation
Through hours of dedicated training and education, they too could stand among the ranks of the military and be among our greatest defenders
Over the course of the past year, lawmakers of our nation have been pushing this voluntary activity to be voluntary no longer Various government officials hope to reinstate the ROTC program into the student’s curriculum However, such a requirement in curriculums is not unheard of in the history of the Philippines. On February 8, 1967, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr issued Executive Order 59 Through this order, the ROTC program was made a part of the curriculum for all male students in college
The late president’s attempt to bolster and further strengthen the forces of our nation brought even more problems in the future onwards: records of violence, corruption, injustice, and the such These, along with many other scandals within the ROTC, tainted-
the general public’s perception of the program Later on, on January 23, 2002, then-president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Republic Act 9163, or the National Service Training Program Act of 2001, which made the ROTC elective noncompulsory once again
Twenty years later, many members of the Philippine Government, notable examples of which include Vice President Sara Duterte, Senator Robin Padilla, and Ronald Dela Rosa, are now pushing for the reinstatement of the mandatory ROTC for all senior high school and collegiate students Few of the youth and old, specifically progressive and student activist groups, are protesting against this
According to the results of a survey conducted by OCTA Research, 68% of Filipinos are in favor of the reinstation of the ROTC as a mandatory part of a collegiate’s curriculum, while 28% are against it With a majority of the 68% being composed of people from the age range of 18-34, it gives us an image one of dread and disappointment Despite the bloodstained history of the ROTC, many remain in favor of it The people of the modern age, despite the technologies and information readily available, forget the errors of the generations before the present Even with the aforementioned, many still choose to whitewash these mistakes and brush them off as a “one-off thing”, preferring to forget They choose not to weigh the potential benefits and consequences, and motives of-
reinstating such a law and instead resort to believing whatever is presented to them by others on social media For many, ignorance is bliss
It is a fact that the reinstatement of the ROTC provides our nation with a few benefits (e g discipline, etc ) However, inevitably, consequences will arise (e g return of abuse) If ever we were to reinstate such a law, the government, the constituents, and the citizens must make certain of one thing and that is the errors of those in the past shall not be committed again and that those standing today prevent the consequences The youth of today carries the power to change the destiny of the future,-
thus those who have gone through the hardships of yesterday must guide those who live today to decide the best for the masses and their tomorrows If we are to be complacent and let some repeat known mistakes, then the change that many long for will be impossible to attain

by Ineah Magbanua

-day, they carry the weight of the world on their shoulders while facing countless challenges and hardships Yet they still manage to stand up for themselves and continue to move forward Now, what can you do to fight for women’s rights? How can you help in making the world a better place for women?
women’s rights can not only put an end to gender stereotypes but could also drastically affect the relationship between women and men all over the world.
In this world dominated by men, women are hardly appreciated for their contributions and creations that hugely impact our society A lot of women suffer from discrimination, job stereotypes, and gender wage gaps, and even have less access to basic education than men do But despite many years of continuing to fight for the rights of women, women all over the world continue to live in so much fear They are forced to marry at a young age, are victims of human trafficking, and up until now, they still struggle in making their own choices. Every-
Initially, Educating yourself about women’s rights comes first before educating others. Being informed and updated about currenttrends and issues can help you spread the truth. The most effective way is to take advantage of social media platforms to be able to raise awareness about the problems that women are facing Furthermore, supporting or taking part in any organization that promotes the rights of women can be one of the ways to change the course for women’s rights Choosing to stay silent wouldn’t get us anywhere near our goal which is to have the right to be free
Educating people and raising awareness about-
Unfortunately, fighting for women’s rights often gets mistaken as man-hating which is untrue. Because this is not what we are aiming for What we want is freedom What we need to hear are the voices that can lead people to the right path and the right choice The world needs people who are willing to fight for change. A change that can make this world a better place for each and every one of us As Neil Armstrong says “ One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind ”

It's okay not to be okay to feel lost, and to feel gray
Let your heart out cry, scream, and shout
Breathing with a heavy heart feels like the world is falling apart Everything seems to be tough but we are more than enough
O’, I yearn to wake to a new day, To be greeted by one unlike any other,
One that’s joyous and bright one not gray.
O’, dear Lord, when shall my days get any colour?
Sometimes, things won't go your way but trust me, everything will be okay
With no doubt Someday, you’ll figure it out
Lost

A man wanders, lost into the deep, Broken, numb---his heart weeps, Cold and barren---his soul now a husk, Yet he persists to exit his eternal dusk.
His journey will be one of regret and pain, One that can and has driven a sane one insane. Obsessed and possessed by failures yet again, But he’ll persist, in search of a feeling he’d long forgotten.

We gazed at the stars, dazzling so bright We walked hand in hand
And told stories, only we could understand
Every laughter and tears we shared
In my heart, will forever be ensnared
My dear, we might never meet again
But our love will remain, just like since then

Finally, the game ended with the opponent gaining the upper hand and winning this season
However, though our boys only secured the first runner-up spot, they still showed real skill, losing to the opposing team with a deficit of only 7 points, results being 93-100
Moreover, a horde of supportive Taytungians took to the stands and cheered for our school, shouting their loudest until their throats got hoarse, and yet continuing to cheer on their fellow schoolmates
