Top Romantic Destinations Romantic tourism has become one of the most important segments of the touristic industry in our country during the past few years. The wide diversity of destinations, the hotel and services infrastructure, the renown gastronomy, as well as the extraordinary Mexican hospitality make it possible to celebrate any type of commitment-related events such as weddings, honeymoons, wedding anniversaries and even vow renewals. There is a wide offer of places to choose from and create the most unforgettable memories at: exclusive venues, dream-like beaches, ancient haciendas, colonial cities, sites surrounded by the most beautiful wildlife and vegetation, towns full of magic and history, as well as endless sceneries that confirm that Mexico is a world on its own. Each year, Mexico receives 66,000 weddings. In 2016, 70% of all international destination weddings took place in Cancún-Riviera Maya.

We are aware that the niche of romance tourism is a substantial, essential and constantly growing business area. Our objective is to reinforce this tendency whilst continuing to promote the enormous diversity of destinations within our country. Because of this, we are pleased to announce that Mexico will be the venue of the Destination Wedding Planners Congress (dwp), considered to be the most important congress of the industry on an international level and which is held on a yearly basis. From April 10th to 12th, 2018, the city of Los Cabos, B.C.S., will make the perfect setting for the multiple activities of the dwp.

In this sense, and side by side with the destinations and specialized enterprises, our promoting efforts will strengthen the position of the country as one of the best in the world as far as the romance segment goes.

El turismo de romance en México se ha convertido en los últimos años en uno de los segmentos más importantes de la industria turística de nuestro país. La diversidad de destinos, la infraestructura hotelera y de servicios, la renombrada gastronomía, así como la extraordinaria hospitalidad de los mexicanos, hacen posible celebrar aquí cualquier compromiso: desde bodas y lunas de miel, hasta aniversarios o incluso renovaciones de votos. Existe una enorme oferta de lugares para elegir y crear los momentos más inolvidables. Recintos exclusivos, playas de ensueño, antiguas haciendas, ciudades coloniales, sitios rodeados de la más bella flora y fauna, pueblos con magia e historia, y un sinfín de escenarios confirman que México es un mundo en sí mismo.

Cada año, México recibe alrededor de 66,000 bodas. En 2016, el 70% de las bodas de destino internacional se llevaron a cabo en el área de Cancún y Riviera Maya.

Somos conscientes que el nicho del turismo de romance es un área de negocios sustancial, imprescindible y en constante crecimiento. Nuestro objetivo es reforzar esta tendencia, mientras continuamos promoviendo la enorme diversidad de destinos en nuestro país. Your Big Day A wedding is not just a party. It is finding the right place and moment to share with those you love the most, the act of feeling in love. It is an experience. There are partners who decide to honor it at home; but others, those attracted by travels and new things, usually seek to celebrate it far away: they think of a different destination to get married. That can be Mexico. We present The Weddings Guide to Mexico, an annual guide designed to help you decide between the different landscapes that this country offers. Many of them have sandy places with palm trees, bright days and some breeze. But there are also cities full of colonial buildings and living traditions. In both cases, there is something that does not change: the Mexican service and hospitality that make any couple feel special.

Nadia Durán is a globetrotter with an early vocation. Her enthusiasm is inexhaustible, as is the confidence she has always had in herself. She studied Engineering in Digital Systems and Communications, while she was a dancer in the folkloric ballet of her native Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. When finishing university, she had the opportunity to do her internship in Serbia. “I was 21 when I started working as an engineer in Serbia. After a month of being there I was also accepted in the dance company Branko Krsmanović. Then I asked the Mexican embassy to organize a Mexican folklore event. I had to train the Serbian ballet for six months to teach them our traditional dances and the result was a spectacle that had never been seen before in the Balkans area. The government of Mexico supported me with costumes, scenery and music. That’s probably when the idea to produce events came to me”.

Shortly after returning to Chihuahua, Nadia got a job at a telecommunications company that eventually sent her to Sydney, Australia. She was alone again, in a faraway country. A year later, she organized there her own wedding. “I prepared everything for 50 guests in just one month. I had to deal with many suppliers at the same time. I realized the need to have a wedding planner who would take care of everything. And I naively thought: I can do it. I started my own website and paid to be in an online directory. My first job as a wedding planner came soon. I didn´t have what they asked for, and didn´t even know where to get all the things. But I said yes to everything”. So that’s how Events by Nadia (eventsbynadia.com.au) was created. Today it is a family business with more than 30 employees.

What is essential for a wedding? Nadia thinks the answer is to “marry your best friend. The reason for having a party is to celebrate with an unforgettable experience your daily well-being”. And that is precisely what Nadia looks for in every banquet she organizes, whether in her place of residence, Australia, or in countries like Greece or Fiji. That unforgettable experience is achieved, says Nadia, with personalized details: “from knowing where the ingredients that make up the menu come from, to even worrying about writing a shared memory with your guests on the little cards of their seats”.

Nadia’s perseverance and creativity made her grow and meet other brilliant minds, such as the florist Karen Tran. Her stunning decorations inspired Nadia, until it went the other way: “Karen invited me to be a lecturer in her classes to talk about décor styling. The idea was to address people like me, moms who have another job, who started from scratch. Since then I have been addressing business development issues in various parts of the world”. Although she is far from Mexico, it is also in Nadia’s plans. “I have convinced Australian couples to go on their honeymoon to Cancún or Playa del Carmen and they return fascinated; so I’m thinking of doing an extension of my business focused on designing honeymoons. Our country has an incredible culinary tradition and its locations astonish everyone. Moreover, the service that people offer, their attitude and disposition, does not exist anywhere else in the world”.

Nadia Durán es una trotamundos de vocación temprana. Su entusiasmo es inagotable, así como la confianza que siempre ha tenido en sí misma. Estudió Ingeniería en Sistemas Digitales y Comunicaciones, al tiempo que era bailarina en el ballet folclórico de su natal Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Al terminar la carrera, tuvo oportunidad de realizar sus prácticas profesionales en Serbia. “Tenía 21 años cuando empecé a trabajar como ingeniera en Serbia. Al mes de estar ahí me aceptaron también en la compañía de danza Branko Krsmanović. Propuse entonces a la embajada de México que organizáramos un evento de folclor mexicano.

Tuve que entrenar al ballet serbio durante seis meses para que aprendieran nuestras danzas tradicionales y el resultado fue un espectáculo que nunca se había visto en los Balcanes. El gobierno de México me apoyó con el vestuario, la escenografía y la música. Fue ahí donde me nació la idea de producir eventos”.

Poco después de regresar a Chihuahua, Nadia había conseguido una plaza en una empresa de telecomunicaciones que acabó por mandarla a Sydney, Australia. De nuevo estaba sola, en un país lejano. Al año ya había organizado allá su propia boda.

“En un mes preparé todo para 50 invitados. Tuve que lidiar con varios proveedores al mismo tiempo. Me di cuenta de la necesidad de contar con un wedding planner que se encargara de todo. Y pensé ingenuamente: yo puedo hacerlo. Saqué mi propio website y pagué para estar en un directorio en línea. Mi primera boda por encargo llegó pronto. No tenía nada de lo que me pedían, no sabía dónde conseguir las cosas. Pero dije que sí a todo”.

Así surgió Events by Nadia (eventsbynadia.com.au). Hoy es una empresa familiar con más de 30 empleados. ¿Qué es para Nadia lo esencial en una boda? “Casarte con tu mejor amigo. La razón por la que se hace una fiesta es para celebrar con una experiencia inolvidable tu bienestar cotidiano”. Y eso es lo que ella busca en cada banquete que organiza, ya sea en su lugar de residencia, Australia, o en sitios como Grecia o Fiyi.

Esa experiencia indeleble se consigue, dice Nadia, con detalles personalizados: “desde saber de dónde vienen los ingredientes que conforman el menú, hasta preocuparte por escribir un recuerdo compartido con tus invitados en las tarjetitas que les indican sus asientos.

La perseverancia y creatividad de Nadia la hicieron crecer y dialogar con otras mentes brillantes, como la florista Karen Tran.

Sus impresionantes decorados inspiraban a Nadia, hasta que fue a la inversa: “Karen me invitó a ser conferencista en sus clases para hablar de decoración y estilo. La idea era dirigirme a gente como yo, mamás que tienen otro trabajo, que empezaron desde cero. Desde entonces abordo temas de business development en varias partes del mundo”. México está también en los próximos planes de Nadia aunque le quede lejos. “He hecho que parejas australianas se vayan de luna de miel a Cancún o Playa del Carmen y regresan fascinadas; así que estoy pensando en hacer una extensión de mi negocio que se dedique a eso, a diseñar lunas de miel. Nuestro país tiene una increíble tradición culinaria y sus locaciones asombran a cualquiera. Además, el servicio que la gente da, su actitud y disposición, no existe en otra parte del mundo”.

the testimony If romance were a religion, Sol Tamargo, founder of Del Sol Photography, would be one of its most faithful devotees. “It is what moves the world, it is the most powerful energy in the universe. We have to have a romance with ourselves, with what we do, with others, with life. To me, the most delicate romance that exists is that of human beings with nature”. That is clear to anyone who looks at the wedding photographs taken by Sol and Matt, her partner, in which the mystery of the water, the iridescence of the sun, the rough texture of the trees, the sand and the sweet stridence of the flowers are always present. But the most important element of such artistic compositions is always the couple: two people who have decided to walk the same way. In these photographs, the metaphor of the image supports the testimony of that decision.

Sol became a wedding photographer after leaving behind an important chapter of her life. She worked with her lens alone for a couple of years, until she met Matt Addock. “I was impressed with his charisma, passion and talent. Together we created Del Sol Photography in 2005”. Since then, the team has recorded love stories in various regions of Mexico, as well as in other countries such as Hong Kong, Thailand, Spain, Canada, the United States and the Caribbean islands. Their specialty is to create a memory of this union in an imaginative way, privileging an artistic and dreamlike perspective, according to the temperament and the wishes of the couple that comes to them. The result is a combination of the unmistakable style of Del Sol Photography (delsolphotography.com) and the unique spirit of each pair of lovers.

“I see beauty and I document it. I am a storyteller that uses the elements around and put them all together as in a fairy tale. Water is my passion”. The result is as amazing as it sounds: Sun literally transforms the brides into mermaids with the underwater trash the dress that takes place in the Cancún region and the Riviera Maya, where cenotes and lagoons awaken the imagination of those who visit them. There, women can see themselves as the enchanted creatures of a story, it gives them “the opportunity to really enjoy wearing their wedding dress, without hurry, alone with their future and their illusion”.

In addition to having the talent to capture the intimate moments of a couple on the eve of their celebration, Sol feels a lot of affection for Mexico, place that she considers an inspiration for her creative work. “That’s my biggest wish right now. To show my country to the world from a perspective that hasn´t been seen before. I think, for example, of Pink Romance, the renewal of vows I organized for a couple in the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, in Yucatán. It is the favorite spot of hundreds of pink flamingos searching for a mate and nest, so the location was perfect: it was so meaningful”. Nature in Mexico, as well as its cultural wealth, enables such unique experiences. “The service, the hospitality, the food and the folklore are infinite. But whoever comes to get married in this corner of the world also has the luxury that nature offers”.

Si el romance fuese una religión, Sol Tamargo, fundadora de Del Sol Photography, sería una de sus más fieles devotas. “Es lo que mueve al mundo, es la energía más poderosa del universo. Hay que romancear con uno mismo, con lo que hacemos, con los demás, con la vida. Para mí, el romance más delicado que existe es el del ser humano con la naturaleza”. Eso le queda claro a cualquiera que observe las fotografías de boda producidas por ella y Matt, su socio, en las que siempre está presente el misterio del agua, la iridiscencia del sol, la textura rugosa de los árboles, la arena y la dulce estridencia de las flores. Pero el elemento más importante de semejantes composiciones artísticas siempre es la pareja: dos personas que han decidido transitar por una misma vía. En estas fotografías, la metáfora de la imagen apoya el testimonio de esa decisión plena.

Sol se convirtió en fotógrafa de bodas después de dejar atrás una etapa importante de su vida. Enfocó su propia lente de forma solitaria un par de años, hasta que conoció a Matt Addock. “Me impresionó con su carisma, pasión y talento. Juntos formamos Del Sol Photography en 2005”. Desde entonces, el equipo ha registrado historias de amor en diversas regiones de México, además de en otros países, como Hong Kong, Tailandia, España, Canadá, Estados Unidos y las islas del Caribe. Su especialidad es crear una memoria de esa unión de forma imaginativa, privilegiando una perspectiva artística y onírica, según los deseos de la pareja que acuda a ellos.

El resultado es una combinación entre el inconfundible estilo de Del Sol Photography (delsolphotography.com) y el espíritu único de cada par de enamorados.

“Yo veo la belleza y la documento. Soy especialista en contar historias, en usar los elementos a mi alrededor y armar todo como un cuento de hadas. El agua es mi pasión”. El resultado es tan asombroso como suena: Sol transforma, literalmente, a las novias en sirenas con el trash the dress subacuático que realiza en la región de Cancún y la Riviera Maya, donde los cenotes y lagunas despiertan la imaginación de quienes los visitan. Ahí abre un espacio en el que las mujeres pueden verse a sí mismas como las criaturas encantadas de una historia, les da “la oportunidad de realmente disfrutar traer el vestido de novia puesto, sin prisas, a solas con su futuro y su ilusión”.

Además de tener talento para capturar los momentos más íntimos de una pareja en la víspera de la celebración, Sol siente mucho cariño por México, lugar que considera una inspiración misma para su forma de crear. “Ese es mi mayor anhelo en este momento.

Mostrar mi país al mundo desde una perspectiva que no ha sido vista antes. Pienso, por ejemplo, en Pink Romance, la renovación de votos que organicé para una pareja en la Reserva de la Biosfera Ría Lagartos, en Yucatán. Se trata del sitio preferido por cientos de flamencos rosados para encontrar pareja y anidar, así que la locación era perfecta: estaba llena de significado”. La naturaleza en México, al igual que su riqueza cultural, posibilita esas experiencias tan singulares. “El servicio, la hospitalidad, la comida y el folclor son aquí infinitos. Pero quien viene a casarse a este rincón del mundo tiene además el lujo que brinda lo natural”.

It is not surprising that the Riviera Maya is a place where celebrations as lavish as those in the stories of The Arabian Nights can happen. That’s how the ceremony of Sayeh and Pedram came about. Because a traditional Persian wedding cannot be taken lightly: delicacies, distinction and joy must abound. The bride and groom chose southeastern Mexico to make that fairy tale a reality, specifically in the gardens of the elegant Rosewood Mayakoba resort, located north of Playa del Carmen.

At daylight, the guests witnessed the arriving of the bride on a small boat floating on the waters of a lagoon. The air was warm, the mangroves surrounded family and friends who did not stop taking photos. Pedram and Sayeh fed to each other a feast of typical Arab sweets, fulfilling the guarantee of sweetness and prosperity to their marriage. Everyone enjoyed this recreation of the Persian traditions that have survived the passage of millennia, since some date from the year 2000 B.C.!

That ritual and that landscape—in which the heart of the Mayan culture beats—, left in each guest an unforgettable impression.

To drink, eat and dance until dawn, the party moved over to the beach. The stars appeared and fireworks competed with their distant glow to dazzle the guests. Sayeh repeatedly attacked her wedding dress with scissors to transform it into a more party friendly gown. Nothing was missing. This is love, thinks Pedram, recalling the words of Rumi, a Persian poet of the 13th century: “to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment”.

Poco sorprende que la Riviera Maya sea un lugar donde ocurren celebraciones tan fastuosas como las que aparecen en los relatos de Las mil y una noches. Así fue la ceremonia de Sayeh y Pedram. Y es que una boda persa tradicional no es cualquier cosa: deben abundar los manjares, la distinción y la alegría. Los novios eligieron el sureste de México para volver realidad ese cuento de hadas, en concreto, los jardines del elegante resort Rosewood Mayakoba, ubicado al norte de Playa del Carmen.

A la luz del día, los asistentes a la celebración vieron llegar a la novia en una pequeña embarcación, flotando sobre las aguas de una laguna. El aire era cálido, los manglares rodeaban a familiares y amigos que no dejaban de tomar fotos. Un festín de dulces típicos árabes que Pedram y Sayeh se obsequiaron el uno al otro en la boca, cumplió con la función de garantizar dulzura y prosperidad al matrimonio. Todos los asistentes disfrutaron de esta recreación de las tradiciones persas que han sobrevivido al paso de los milenios, pues algunas datan del año ¡2000 a.C.! La combinación con aquel paisaje, en el que late el corazón de la cultura maya, dejó en la memoria de todos una impresión inolvidable.

Para beber, comer y bailar hasta el amanecer, la fiesta se trasladó a la playa. Aparecieron las estrellas, los fuegos artificiales compitieron con su brillo distante para deslumbrar a los invitados. Sayeh no dejaba de atacar su vestido con unas tijeras para transformarlo en un atuendo más adecuado para el baile. Nada faltaba. Eso es el amor, piensa Pedram recordando las palabras de Rumi, un poeta persa del siglo xiii: “volar hacia un cielo secreto, hacer que a cada momento caigan mil velos”.

Tamika & Armando

Tamika and Armando wanted to show their friends who they are as a couple and what they love the most: traveling. How to achieve it? Joining their passion to explore the world with an infallible destination when it comes to pleasing their guests. For that they chose the Banyan Tree Mayacoba in Playa del Carmen, a boutique hotel surrounded by freshwater lagoons and mangroves caressed by the warm breeze of the Caribbean.

In this inspiring scenario, Tamika was finally able to write her wedding vows one early morning. “I had so many things to do before landing in Mexico, I still did not know what my vows would be. On the morning of the wedding I thought of everything that Armando meant for me and in that moment I started to write. I read what I had written and burst into tears. Instantly I knew I had finished. I told my story: Armando is my soul mate”.

For the bride and groom, every aspect of the celebration had to have a meaning. That’s why they chose to make a trip that all the guests could enjoy. “We wanted our loved ones to live the excitement and joy that we feel when traveling. Every aspect of the celebration was intended as an experience for them. The wedding was just the icing on the cake”, says Tamika.

Tamika knew immediately that the Banyan Tree Mayacoba was the right place to get married. “You breathe in so much peace, you want to fall in love all over again when you are there. How could someone have a bad day waking up in this place? We were all treated as the most important people in the most important event that would happen that weekend. It was a mission accomplished, because the guests shared with us daily how well they were going. Those four days and our wedding went directly to their book of memories”.

Tamika y Armando deseaban enseñarle a sus amigos quienes son como pareja y qué es lo que más aman: viajar. ¿Cómo lograrlo? Uniendo su pasión por explorar el mundo con un destino infalible a la hora de complacer a sus invitados. Para eso escogieron el Banyan Tree Mayacoba en Playa del Carmen, un hotel boutique rodeado por lagunas de agua dulce y manglares acariciados por la brisa tibia del Caribe.

Fue en este inspirador escenario que Tamika pudo, por fin, escribir sus votos matrimoniales una madrugada. “Había tenido tantas cosas que hacer antes que cuando aterrizamos en México aún no sabía cuáles serían mis votos. En la mañana de la boda pensé en todo lo que Armando significaba para mí y en ese momento comencé a escribirlos. Leí lo que había escrito y me eché a llorar. Instantáneamente supe que ya los había terminado. Conté la historia: Armando es mi alma gemela”.

Para los novios, cada aspecto de la celebración debía tener un significado.

Por eso escogieron hacer un viaje que todos los invitados pudieran disfrutar.

“Queríamos que nuestros seres queridos vivieran la emoción y alegría que nosotros sentimos al viajar. Cada aspecto de la celebración estuvo pensado como una experiencia para ellos. La boda fue solo la cereza del pastel”, cuenta Tamika.

Tamika supo de inmediato que el Banyan Tree Mayacoba era el lugar indicado para casarse. “Se respira tanta paz, deseas volver a enamorarte estando ahí. ¿Cómo alguien podría tener un mal día despertándose en este lugar? Todos nos trataron como lo más importante que ocurriría ese fin de semana. Fue misión cumplida, pues los invitados nos compartían a diario lo bien que se la estaban pasando. Esos cuatro días y nuestra boda se fueron directamente a su libro de recuerdos”.

Tracy & Justin

Tracy and Justin were about to celebrate ten years of marriage when he decided that it wouldn´t just be another anniversary: he had a big surprise in mind for her. “We have three little children, our life is strident, chaotic. When we talked about anniversary plans, Justin reminded me that I longed for a renewal of our vows, but it seemed frivolous and selfish to ask for something like that. Someday, maybe, it would be wonderful”, Tracy says. Luckily, Justin sensed what was going through his wife’s mind. He hired Matt Adcock, who photographed them at their wedding years ago, and told him he wanted to do something special. The result was a ceremony based on ancient Mayan rites inside a cenote in Playa del Carmen, followed by a trash the dress ceremony with spectacular photos of both of them underwater.

Tracy had no idea until a day before it happened. All she knew was that they were going to Mexico on vacations. Little did she

imagine that all along her wedding dress was with them hidden in a suitcase, and that it was going to fit almost as perfect as the day of their wedding. “Before entering we were explained that, in the Mayan tradition, people went to the cenotes to perform rituals of renewal and purification. We took off our shoes and walked in, barefoot. The light shone from the bed of the jungle, illuminating us as actors on play. I felt something so magical. In the shadows, three Mayan warriors played music”, Tracy recalls.

The ceremony officiants asked Tracy and Justin to make a list of things that prevented them from being the fullest version of themselves, as individuals and as a couple. Then the fire devoured the papers to leave that behind. Once again, they had chosen each other in that ritual. “Our senses were over-stimulated by the environment, which created a spiritual and emotional journey through the cenote. And when I say journey, I mean it. A marriage needs time and devotion to prosper, deserves to be celebrated as something sacred, because it is!” That dreamy atmosphere was the ideal place for Justin and Tracy to renew their vows.

Cuando hablamos de los planes de aniversario, Justin me recordó que yo anhelaba hacer una renovación de votos, pero ahora me parecía frívolo y egoísta pedir algo así. Algún día, tal vez, sería maravilloso”, admite Tracy. Por suerte, Justin intuía lo que pasaba por la mente de su esposa. Contactó a Matt Adcock, quien los fotografió en su boda años atrás, y le dijo que quería hacer algo especial. El resultado fue una ceremonia basada en antiguos ritos mayas dentro de un cenote en Playa del Carmen, seguida por una sesión trash the dress con espectaculares fotos de ambos bajo el agua del cenote.

Tracy no tuvo idea hasta un día antes de que ocurriera. Lo único que sabía es que iban a México de vacaciones. Poco imaginaba que su vestido de novia los acompañaba oculto en una maleta y que iba a quedarle casi de forma tan perfecta

como el día de su boda. “Antes de entrar nos explicaron que, en la tradición maya, la gente acudía a los cenotes para realizar rituales de renovación y purificación. Nos quitamos los zapatos e ingresamos así, descalzos. La luz resplandecía desde el lecho de la selva hasta nosotros, iluminándonos como en una obra de teatro. Sentí algo tan mágico. En las sombras, tres guerreros mayas tocaban música”, recuerda Tracy.

Los oficiantes de la ceremonia pidieron a Tracy y Justin que hicieran una lista de las cosas que les impedían ser la versión más plena de sí mismos, como individuos y como pareja.

Después el fuego devoró los papeles para dejar aquello atrás.

Una vez más, se habían elegido el uno al otro en ese ritual.

“Nuestros sentidos estaban sobreestimulados por el entorno, lo que creó un viaje espiritual y emocional a través del cenote.

Y cuando digo viaje, lo digo en serio. Un matrimonio necesita tiempo y devoción para prosperar, merece celebrarse como algo sagrado, ¡porque lo es!”. Esa atmósfera de ensueño fue el escenario ideal para que Justin y Tracy renovaran sus votos.

4 Don’t miss the Misión de San José del Cabo Añuití, a Jesuit building of 1735. If you like cacti, give yourself time to visit Wirikuta, a botanical park located in the nearby tourist development Puerto Los Cabos.

4 The Cabo San Lucas Marina is the place to hook up with all types of excursions around the bay: sailing, fishing, snorkeling, kayaking or watching sunsets. You must visit El Arco, the most photographed rock formation in the area, and also Playa del Amor.

4 A few hours from San José del Cabo is Cabo Pulmo National Park. The reserve houses one of the few remaining coral reefs in North America. Diving here, among hundreds of marine species, is a privilege that no one should miss.

4 Every winter, the gray whales leave the frozen Arctic waters looking for cooler currents to breed. Their goal is to reach the coasts of the Baja California Peninsula. You can see them in Los Cabos between December and March.

Mazatlán The port of Mazatlán is located south of Sinaloa. It was used by the Spaniards in the 16th century as a strategic point in their maritime raids. Today it is a top destination due to its golden beaches—all of them just perfect for getting married—and the sunsets that can be enjoyed from the Crestón Hill. Its waves are great for surfing, and can make recreational fishing lovers very happy. The long Malecón (boardwalk) connects the old town, which is full of houses and plazas, with New Mazatlán, a modern tourist development which includes many hotels, the marina and a golf course.

Get on a “pulmonía”, a traditional open taxi in Mazatlán. It’s a fun way to get around the Malecón and move between the Marina Mazatlán, the Golden Zone and Old Mazatlán, where you will find the amazing Cathedral and the Ángela Peralta Theater.

4 Walk at night through the Plazuela Machado surrounded by restaurants and cafes. Then get a seat in one of the outdoor tables of Pedro y Lola bistro, or walk a couple of blocks to the romantic restaurant El Presidio.

4 Do not miss the nine ziplines of Huana Coa Canopy Adventure, an ecological park located in the grounds of the Vinata de Los Osuna. At the end of the tour you can visit that traditional distillery.

It is located near a charming village called La Noria.

4 Go on a tour to explore the three islands that rise in front of the coast: Venados Island, Pájaros Island and Lobos Island. During the tour, you can go diving or kayaking.

Puerto Vallarta Located on the beachfront of Banderas Bay, between the sea and the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain rage, Puerto Vallarta is a little town where the sunsets have the leading role. The best way to contemplate them is to take a horseback ride on its different beaches; or walk along the long Malecón (boardwalk) studded with sculptures. San Miguel de Allende _There are plenty of culinary delights in this city. Try the ceviches at La Parada restaurant, the artisan pastas from Áperi, the oven-baked suckling pig from Moxi, the Thursday burgers in The Restaurant, and any dish from the 1826 restaurant inside the Rosewood hotel.

4 _Take a look at the collection of toys from around the country in La Esquina, Mexican Folk Toy Museum. It consists of more than a thousand pieces, and includes from cardboard dolls and tin boats, to a roller coaster made with wheat spikes.

4 _Visit the Cañada de la Virgen archeological site, located about 18.5 miles southwest of San Miguel. The peak of this pre-Hispanic settlement was between A.D. 600 and 900, and its urban trace was closely related to the observation of the stars.

Founded in 1542, the city of San Miguel de Allende is full of life, old buildings and artists who have come to stay and live in them. It is a tradition to perform a lively walk when someone is getting married. The bride, the groom and their guests go all over the cobbled streets, but they do so accompanied by musicians and large cardboard dolls called mojigangas. The celebration begins or ends at Plaza Allende, where the Parish Church of San Miguel Arcángel is located. 4 _Discover one of the earliest colonial buildings, the Palace of Cortés. In addition to being the residence of the conqueror Hernán Cortés, it now houses the Cuauhnáhuac Regional Museum, which tells the story of the ancient inhabitants of Morelos. Don´t miss the Diego Rivera murals inside.

4 _To the east of Cuernavaca is Tepoztlán, a small town surrounded by mountains. The temple hidden in the top of a hill, as well as its colorful outdoor crafts market, are part of the attractions.

4 _Tequesquitengo, about 28 miles south of Cuernavaca, is ideal for a day of fun while skydiving or ultralight flying. In its magnificent lake, always full of boats, yachts and kayaks, you can water ski or ride a jetski.

Having at a distance a pair of volcanoes, the city of Puebla stands out for its rich colonial architecture.

There are plenty of facades and domes—in addition to the pieces of ceramics —decorated with Talavera, that artisanal technique that the Spaniards brought with them but that in hands of locals soon acquired its own characteristics.
