Notre agence se consacre au développement de projets d’urbanisme, d’architecture et de design. Familiale, centenaire et donc naturellement enracinée et tournée vers l’avenir, notre agence cultive une approche authentiquement durable et poursuit en interne différents travaux de recherche au travers de notre pôle R&D sur les développements durablement vertueux et la sobriété carbone, le design paramétrique, les nouveaux matériaux biosourcés, le biomimétisme, la « fabrique digitale »…
Nous sommes particulièrement engagés dans la transition énergétique, climatique et l’innovation comme en témoignent nos différents partenariats et actions de soutien, ainsi que nos travaux en matière de biomimétisme auprès du CEEBIOS, ou d’urbanisme climatique auprès de The Climate Company ; ou encore le soutien que nous portons aux labels BiodiverCity et BBCA, ainsi qu’auprès de la Fondation Palladio. »

Guiding all our projects, our raison d’être is a sign of our commitment to sustainability, combining regeneration, circular economies, a low-tech approach, urban integration and reconciling nature with the city. We put our expertise and know-how at the service of each type of project - offices, housing, hotels, various equipment, - whether we are talking about construction or rehabilitation, including heritage; all with an always contextual and bioclimatic approach, in order to respect the identity and the environment of the places in which our projects are established. We are particularly convinced by the role we have to play in helping the scientific sphere to work as closely as possible to the daily reality of the city, particularly in terms of innovation to anticipate and better support climate change with tools and accessible and practical solutions. A l’instar du renouvellement urbain, le renouvellement de nos générations stimule la conception responsable...
1920 : Naissance du 1er atelier d’architecture fondé par Antony Edouard Bechu, fils et petit-fils de tailleur de pierres.
1955 : Antony Lucien Bechu, 2ème du nom, remporte l’Opération Million lancée par le Ministère de la Reconstruction de la France grâce à une solution innovante de béton préfabriqué, optimisant les coûts, et favorisant le développement d’espaces modulaires pour les familles.
1980 : Anthony Emmanuel, son fils, reprend la direction de l’agence, et l’ouvre à des projets emblématiques d’envergure internationale, y intégrant aussi la compétence « architecture du patrimoine ».
2013 : Livraison de la tour D2 à la Défense, une exostructure bioinspirée, symbole du renouveau durable du premier quartier d’affaire européen.
2014 : Clémence Bechu rejoint l’agence pour y créer un pôle de développement, et l’engager dans la transition écologique des territoires, aux côtés de nouveaux associés...

1920 : Birth of the 1st architecture workshop founded by Antony Edouard Bechu, son and grandson of a stonemason.
1955 : Antony Lucien Bechu, 2nd of the name, wins Operation Million launched by the Ministry of Reconstruction of France thanks to an innovative solution of precast concrete, optimizing costs, and promoting the development of modular spaces for families.
1980 : Anthony Emmanuel, his son, takes over the management of the agency, and opens it up to emblematic projects of international scope, also integrating the “heritage architecture” skill.
2013 : Delivery of the D2 tower in La Défense, a bio-inspired exostructure, symbol of the sustainable renewal of Europe’s leading business district.
2014 : Clémence Bechu joins the agency to create a development center there, and engage it in the ecological transition of the territories, alongside new partners...
2022 : Led by two generations who complement each other, Anthony Bechu, his two daughters Clémence, Director of Development & Innovation, Aliénor Bechu, interior designer, and with teams supervised by Jean Cornil, Agency Director, the Bechu agency & Associés defines itself as a laboratory of ideas through the scientific partnerships it develops, with real experience in the act of responsible construction.

Convaincus par la nécessité de renouveler le modèle des agences traditionnelles, pour mieux s’adapter aux attentes nouvelles des populations en termes de : qualité de vie et santé, lien social, protection de l’environnement, flexibilité, technologies... nous avons mis en place une stratégie de développement axée autour de l’innovation et de l’urbanisme durable, organisée par l’implémentation d’une démarcheprojet qui consolide la culture d’une agence familiale et centenaire, pour la projeter dans son avenir.
L’ENJEU : rendre l’agence Bechu & Associés actrice de la mutation d’un métier qui nécessite plus que jamais de travailler avec le monde de la science, et de s’organiser avec des « fonctions-outils » transversales servant les projets, comme l’innovation biomimétique ou climatique.
A cet effet, nous menons plusieurs projets en collaboration rapprochée avec des scientifiques éminents ou avec certaines start-ups, nous permettant de travailler par exemple à différentes échelles à partir de l’intelligence du vivant, de la compréhension de ses process pour les adapter à des schémas de conception répondant à des enjeux précis (matériaux, énergies, cycle de l’eau, sobriété, usages…)

Partenaires du CEEBIOS, Centre Européen d’Excellence en Biomimétisme, grâce à des projets biomimétiques construites éprouvant l’efficience de la démarche, nous y avons cocréé le :
Biomim’City Lab, avec un petit groupe d’acteurs de l’immobilier engagés dans la démarche. Nous travaillons ensemble pour développer des outils opérationnels à même de faciliter l’appropriation de cette démarche d’innovation par les collectivités publiques et les acteurs privés.
The Climate Company
Nous menons par ailleurs d’autres travaux avec des climatologues issus de la Columbia University au travers d’un projet baptisé The Climate Company (www.theclimatecompany. eu). Ensemble nous avons co-développé un indice unique de sensibilité climatique révolutionnaire dédié à l’évaluation des risques climatiques à échelle micro-urbaine, et non à partir de données seulement globales. D’un point de vue architectural, l’idée est de redonner à l’architecture sa finalité climatique, en intégrant la donnée climatique à l’origine du projet pour aider les villes à entrer dans une stratégie d’adaptation (et pas seulement d’atténuation) au changement climatique. Le Climat est une donnée avec laquelle la nature sait composer depuis toujours. Elle ainsi toujours su développer des stratégies pour s’adapter à des changements climatiques importants. Les villes elles ne savent pas le faire. Il faut donc doter leurs «cerveaux» d’outils favorisant cette adaptation. Voici la raison d’être de cet indice UCix (Urban Climate Index) que nous avons co-créé.
Nous accompagnons le développement de fermes micro-algales dont la technologie permet d’offrir une réponse efficiente à l’obligation qu’ont les collectivités à horizon fin 2023 de s’être organisées pour valoriser leurs biodéchets. La première ferme verra prochainement le jour à Brezolles, en Eure-et-Loire.

SCIENTIFIC PARTNERSHIPS
Convinced by the need to renew the model of traditional agencies, to better adapt to the new expectations of populations in terms of: quality of life and health, social ties, environmental protection, flexibility, technologies... we have put in place a development strategy centered around innovation and sustainable urban planning, organized by the implementation of a project-based approach that consolidates the culture of a family-run, century-old agency, in order to project it into its future.
THE CHALLENGE : to make the Bechu & Associés agency an actor in the transformation of a profession that requires more than ever to work with the world of science, and to organize itself with crosscutting «tool functions» serving the projects, such as biomimetic or climate innovation.
To this end, we are carrying out several projects in close collaboration with eminent scientists or with certain start-ups, allowing us to work, for example, at different scales based on the intelligence of living things, the understanding of their processes in order to adapt them to design diagrams responding to specific challenges (materials, energy, water cycle, sobriety, uses, etc.)

The Climate Company
We are also carrying out other work with climatologists from Columbia University through a project called The Climate Company (www.theclimatecompany.eu). Together we have co-developed a unique revolutionary climate sensitivity index dedicated to the assessment of climate risks at the microurban scale, and not from only global data. From an architectural point of view, the idea is to give back to architecture its climatic purpose, by integrating the climatic data at the origin of the project to help cities to enter into an adaptation strategy (and not only to mitigation) to climate change. The Climate is a given with which nature has always known how to deal. She has always been able to develop strategies to adapt to significant climate change. Cities don’t know how to do it. It is therefore necessary to equip their “brains” with tools that favor this adaptation. Here is the reason for this UCix index (Urban Climate Index) that we co-created.
We support the development of micro-algal farmswhose technology makes it possible to offer an efficient response the obligation that local authorities have by the end of 2023 to be organized to recover their biowaste. The first farm will soon see the light of day in Brezolles, in Eure-et-Loire.

Quelle que soit l’échelle urbaine de nos projets, notre enjeu est de concevoir des cadres de vie sans fracture pour permettre à chacun de vivre une expérience « sans coutures » au cœur de la ville, et une vraie mixité d’usages, propice au bien-être de tous.
Nous sommes particulièrement convaincus par la nécessité de réintroduire la nature en ville, qui au-delà de la biodiversité qui en résulte, permet aussi de réduire la fracture sociale qui existe entre les villes et le monde rural. Dépassant l’urbanisme pur, nous œuvrons désormais pour un « urbanisme climatique » afin d’accompagner les villes dans leur plus grand défi des années à venir : le changement climatique.

Nous la développons au travers de notre agence Volume ABC dirigée par Aliénor Bechu sur des projets divers de toute tailles. D’un hôtel 5 étoiles en bord de mer ou au cœur de Paris, à un château du 16ème siècle en Sologne, d’un restaurant multi-étoilé à l’aménagement hyperflexible de bureaux en besoin d’agilité, chaque projet se révèle comme une « pièce unique » adaptée au lieu, à la personnalité et au style de vie de nos clients. A cette échelle, la conception du mobilier assure la relation charnelle de l’utilisateur avec le lieu tandis que le graphisme et la signalétique participent à l’identité du projet.

Since landscape is a living element that contributes to its wider surroundings, we like to use the term ‘active nature’. We consider urban planning and architecture as ‘built systems’ that combine the hospitality of the living world and the poetry of buildings. The aim is to generate biodiversitypositive projects in which the architectural approach encourages the installation of biodiversity both in and around the built structures. This natural environment thus helps to unify the people living in it. ANTHONY BECHU
Anthony Bechu est Architecte Urbaniste DPLG depuis 1976, et Architecte du Patrimoine CESHCMA depuis 1981. Il dirige l’Agence d’Architecture Anthony Bechu depuis 1986. Très impliqué dans l’éducation et la profession d’architecte, il a enseigné à l’Ecole Spéciale des Travaux Publics de 1999 à 2014. Depuis 2009 il est également Directeur des écoles d’Art américaines de Fontainebleau qu’il a participé à ouvrir aux autres nationalités. Membre de la société française des Architectes SFA depuis 1983, de l’Union Franco-Britannique des Architectes (UFBA) depuis 1986, de l’Académie d’Architecture depuis 2005, et de l’Académie des Technologies depuis 2009, Anthony a également été nommé Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres en 2014. Passionné par l’histoire et l’identité d’un lieu, sa recherche architecturale contemporaine est l’essai d’une écriture et d’une grammaire qui puise ses sources dans l’analyse de la culture, de la morphologie et de l’historique à traiter. Quelle que soit l’échelle et la destination des projets sur lesquels il travaille, il poursuit depuis toujours le grand objectif de relier les histoires tout en mettant en œuvre des méthodes et des stratégies éco-responsables qui répondent aux problématiques présentes et futures.

An architect whose father and grandfather before him were also architects, Anthony-Emmanuel Bechu has a state-certified dual architecture degree and also graduated from the Centre for Higher Studies in the History and Conservation of Ancient Monuments. Passionate about the history and identity of places, his contemporary architectural research is an attempt to write a grammar that draws inspiration from the analysis of the culture, morphology and history of the subject matter: renovation projects and building projects, but also campuses and cities, with the overarching objective of linking their stories while also implementing sustainable project methods and strategies that address the issues of today and tomorrow.
Aided by his frequent travels, Anthony has been steering Agence d’Architecture Anthony Bechu in this direction since he took the reins in 1986, turning it into a specialist multidisciplinary firm capable of handling architectural and urban planning challenges to execute reflective yet practical projects on any scale, both in France and worldwide.
CLÉMENCE BECHU
Diplômée d’un MSG à l’Université de Dauphine Paris, puis d’un Master en management de projets internationaux à l’ESCP, Clémence développe un parcours ouvert sur le monde et les cultures; les 2 années qu’elle passa en Chine entre 2002 et 2005 lui ayant permis de découvrir le lien structurel inhérent entre révolution urbaine et sociétale, à grande échelle, accompagnant déjà l’agence sur le développement de projets locaux : la rénovation du quartier de Qianmen à Beijing, et l’extension de la ville de Pingyao. Forte de son expérience et d’une véritable passion pour la recherche, la technologie et l’émergence de nouveaux marchés, elle forme son esprit au conseil en stratégie chez Capgemini Consulting avant de créer et développer une start-up de logistique urbaine innovante, « WineSitting ». En 2014, elle décide de rejoindre l’agence en tant que Directrice du développement, pour y mettre en place une stratégie de développement axée autour de l’innovation et de l’urbanisme durable. Elle y implémente une démarche-projet qui oriente la culture de l’agence familiale et centenaire vers l’avenir. Très impliquée dans le développement de l’innovation biomimétique aux côtés du CEEBIOS, au sein duquel elle a cofondé le Biomim’City Lab, ainsi que dans divers travaux liés aux enjeux climatiques de la ville, Clémence développe de nouvelles familles de projets, tous très inspirés de la nature. Cette implication pour la ville durable l’a fait reconnaitre comme partenaire de la Société Française d’Urbanisme, et lui a fait intégrer le palmarès du classement « Choiseul Ville de demain », promos 2019 et 2020. Elle est par ailleurs administratrice de Longevity France, ainsi que membre des Comités de Mission du groupe Frey et de la société ELAN.
CLÉMENCE BECHU
Clemence is the scientific soul of the 4th generation Bechu. After being graduated in economics and finance at University Paris Dauphine, her thirst for discovery and culture led her to China for 2 years, where she studied Chinese at Tsinghua University in Beijing. There, she already accompanied the agency on the development of local projects, including the renovation of the Qianmen area and the extension of the city of Pingyao. Back in France, she finally completed her training with a Master in International Project Management at ESCP in 2007.
Utilizing her experience allied with a passion for research, new avenues of entrepreneurship, technology and the emergence of new markets,
she trained her skills in strategy consulting at Capgemini Consulting before creating and developing a start-up of innovative logistics, «WineSitting», now a recognized market-place in France and soon in Europe. Passionated by the urban scale, and with the double challenge to lead the generational agency transition in correlation with the ecotransition of cities, she finally decided to join Bechu & Associés in 2014 as Director of Development. Whilst revealing the DNA of this singular family company, she has developed new partnerships with innovative start-ups and scientists, convinced by the fact that cities need Science more than ever to make their transition. She is a strong partner of the CEEBIOS where she has co-developped the Biomim’City Lab, a “do-tank” where she participates to develop operational biomimicry tools to develop this innovative approach amongst the real estate sector. She has also participated to develop The Climate Company, to give back its climatic finality to architecture through a micro local comprehension of climate impact, and so help cities to adapt themselves to the Climate change. In 2021 she was in the Top 5 classing of its category of the “Choiseul Ville de demain”. She is also a member of the Mission Committee of Group Frey and at the Board of Longevity Partners, a global and multidisciplinary energy and sustainability consultancy. ALIÉNOR BECHU
Aliénor est architecte d’intérieur et designer, diplômée de l’école Camondo en 2011. C’est très jeune en famille qu’elle attrape le virus de l’architecture. Initiée par son père et son-grand père aux secrets du métier, elle développe un savoir-faire et une sensibilité affirmée avant même de suivre sa propre voie qui la guide vers l’échelle de l’intérieur... Son perfectionnisme, sa curiosité et sa détermination, conjugués à son goût de l’esthétique et à ses idées, la portent tout naturellement à reprendre en 2015 les rênes de Volume ABC spécialisée dans les projets de design et d’architecture d’intérieur. Elle y impulse depuis sa touche féminine avec un goût prononcé pour les lieux signés. Pour Aliénor chaque projet doit être porteur d’une histoire à accorder avec son lieu et sa vocation en devenir. Aliénor is an interior architect and designer, graduated from Camondo School. It is very young in family that she catches the virus of the architecture. Initiated by her father and grandfather to the secrets of the trade, she develops a know-how and an assertive sensitivity, before even following her own path that guides her towards the scale of the interior...
Thanks to her perfectionism and determination allied with her sensitivity and talent, it was a natural next step for her to successfully take the reins of the family’s design and interior architecture arm Volume ABC, to which she brings a feminine touch and a real taste for signature spaces.
For Aliénor each project must bear a story to match with its place, and vocation to become. He process is to privilege the «listening» of the place in order to assimilate it, to value it and to restore it in its contemporary universe, while being as close as possible to the expectations and the comprehension of the stakes of its customers.
