Beacon Life World Book Day The Beacon was thriving with creativity on World Book Day, as boys and Teachers got into the spirit of the day. Classroom doors were transformed into famous book jackets, all decorated with colourful artwork created by our Beacon boys. Everyone made a huge effort dressing up as book characters, with some imaginative costumes, from Iron Man, Stick Man to the Gruffalo. Lower and Middle School boys also had the pleasure of taking part in their very own ‘Book Oscars.’ It was a fantastic and fun day had by all. Read the full story and view more images

“My favourite part of the week was encountering Pre-Prep classes walking around the school looking at the decorated class doors and extreme reading displays. Their excitement at discovering yet another book-themed display or unusual reading photo was wonderful.” - Mr Brown, Librarian at The Beacon

Year 8 boys researching recent news articles

BBC Young Reporter We were excited to once again run a BBC Young Reporter competition. Our Library and ICT room transformed into press reporting offices for the day and our Year 8 boys got well and truly stuck into the day ahead. They were presented with journalist passes, newspapers and iPads, which they used for research and to decide upon a topical story to write as journalists, in pairs.

THE BEACON BULLETIN | SPRING 2022

A superb effort from the whole school from Harry Potter to Willy Wonka

Our boys did a fantastic job preparing interview questions and arranging meetings with Teachers, students and external guests under the pressure of a tight deadline.

One of our boys managed to use his contacts to arrange for the Chairman of Middlesex Cricket Club to visit the school for a face-to-face interview. Another pinned down British Hockey player, Darcy Bourne, who took part in a phone interview. The stories were written, submitted, proof-read and published online by the end of the day. Topics included ‘The Queen's Jubilee,’ ‘The Rise in Gas Prices’ and ‘A Day in the Life of The Beacon’. Read their stories and view more images
