Fond Farewell
Taking a Trip
Our Beacon boys excitedly took day trips to the Ashmolean, Chesham Mosque and Ufton Court during the Spring Term. They had wonderful experiences and enjoyed the educational days away from school, intrigued and engaged by external experts.
Visit to the Mosque
To continue their learning about Islam in Religious Studies, our Year 4 boys visited Chesham Mosque. They learnt all about the Holy Book, praying 5 times a day and the significance of Mecca, the teachings of Prophet Mohammad as well as the Five Pillars of Islam. Our boys were fascinated by their trip and asked various interesting questions during their time there.
They were thrilled to be gifted 8 copies of the Quran from the Mosque.

Ashmolean Museum
Our Year 3 boys thoroughly enjoyed a trip to the Ashmolean Museum to continue to develop their knowledge and consolidate their learning of the Ancient Egyptian Humanitarian topic they have been studying over the Spring term.
They embraced being Ancient Egyptian detectives for the day.
Ufton Court
The Year 5 trip to Ufton Court found our boys immersed in Tudor life!
They had a wonderful time playing Tudor games and being taught various Tudor skills such as wattling, spinning wool and making sparks from flint and steel. Our boys also took part in a Tudor Courtroom reenactment, with the jury and judge deciding on suitable punishments for some shocking Tudor crimes.
Our boys relished the experience and learnt a lot throughout the day.

Be Adventurous Beacon Life
Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning is a key part of Beacon life across all Year groups.
Our Little Beacons continue to look forward to their weekly welly walks. They have particularly enjoyed looking for signs of Spring in the warmer weather.
Our Year 3 boys spent an afternoon in the grounds behind The Beacon discovering different ways to make dens, as well as learning the art of 'whittling' and digging for bugs. They had a wonderful time exploring the outside space and seeing how many different bugs they could locate.
We started monthly Outdoor Learning sessions using the John Muir Award Scheme for our Year 4 boys. Working in teams and as individuals, they explored, studied and shared the woodland area to begin learning survival skills. Our boys used a combination of mathematical, geographical, and physical skills, which helped them overcome their foes!

In Maths lessons, Year 3 learnt how to gather and present data in bar charts. To progress their learning, they were armed with whiteboards and made their way out to the front of the school. Once safely positioned on the path outside, they began to tally cars differing in colour, as well as playing the ‘Waving Game’, whereby they noted down which drivers waved back and which did not.
Our boys had great fun learning in this practical way and were excited to review their data once they returned to the classroom.

Scavenger Hunt
Our Year 4 boys were challenged to a Scavenger Hunt. Located in the grounds, they were set a variety of tasks at different locations dotted around our woodland area.
They had to work as a team to figure out a combination of mathematical, geographical and physical exercises to retrieve the next clue. They did a great job practising their map-reading skills using teamwork and communication.
Taste Buddies
Our Year 3 boys had the pleasure of attending a tasting session, with the aim to introduce them to two different root vegetables, Salsify and Kohlrabi.
Lewis, our Head Chef at The Beacon, spoke to the boys about each vegetable and highlighted ways in which they can be used in cooking and cuisine. Salsify Crips, Salsify & Honey Focaccia, Pickled Kohlrabi and Kohlrabi Croquettes were then offered around for the boys to sample.
It was a great session demonstrating different ways vegetables can be enjoyed. "They had to work as a team to figure out a combination of mathematical, geographical and physical exercises to retrieve the next clue".
