WHAT’S CHANGING Anyone who is expecting a stylistic revolution with respect to the past, might well be disappointed. The new BMW X3 retains the lines and features of the preceding model, because – to borrow a popular much-celebrated adage – why change the essence of a winning formula! However close inspection will reveal that the third edition appears more slimmed down than previously¸ thanks to an extra 5 centimetres added to the wheelbase, which is also reflected in the overall length. Though it’s an extension which has not led to an inevitable increase in mass. In fact the overall weight has fallen by 55 kilograms.
MORE INFOTAINMENT The system adopted for the dashboard within is that of iDrive: 10,2” screen, gesture and voice command, and smartphone compatibility. Add to that the digital instrumentation with a 12,3” display and Head-Up which projects relevant driving information onto the windscreen. Also make a point of noting the function which allows the car to automatically summon assistance in case of accident¸ whilst taking into account the extent of any collision.
