Supporting The Children Of U.S. Service Members

Life in the U.S. Armed Forces can be challenging, particularly for the nearly 1.2 million children of active-duty service members.

During April, which is the Month of the Military Child, the United Service Organizations (USO) is raising awareness of both the constant change and uncertainty “military brats” are often faced with, and efforts being made to support these youngest members of the military community – who, like their parents, make huge sacrifices on behalf of our country.

“I grew up as a ‘military brat’ and my Dad served on active duty my entire childhood until I was commissioned in the Navy myself. The realities of military life can take a toll on children,” says Alan J. Reyes, USO chief operations officer.

Here are five USO programs supporting military children:

1. Connection through reading.

Sometimes there’s nothing a child wants more after a long day at a new school than for their parent to read them a bedtime story. The USO Reading Program is helping deployed service members and military children connect through books. Service members can walk into a participating USO location where they are deployed, record themselves reading their child’s favorite story and have that recording emailed to their child -- and a copy of the book shipped home.

In turn, military children can read a book on camera, add that book to their personal collection and send the recording to their deployed family member. The program also offers story-time events, where military children can spend time with other kids their own age who are also entrenched in military life.

2. Fun activities. Many of the more than 250 USO locations worldwide offer programs and events to mili-

tary children and families, including arts and crafts, family game nights, virtual cooking classes and scavenger hunts. These fun events can offer a little distraction for kids and help bring military families closer together.

3. Baby showers. Being far from loved ones and support networks can be exceptionally difficult on families during pregnancy and in the first few years following birth. To support military parents and set military children up for success, USO Special Delivery hosts inperson and virtual baby showers, which include games, local guest speakers, raffle drawings for gifts, and a touch of home during a challenging time.

4. Entertainment. Today, USO entertainment tours and virtual programs include family-friendly events with celebrities and experts across a variety of industries, such as a live Q&A with worldrenowned conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall, a live cooking demo with

Food Network’s Valerie Bertinelli, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) activities with Emily Calandrelli from “Emily’s Wonder Lab”.

5. A “Home Away from Home.” When stationed far from everything familiar, especially in distant locations overseas, military kids can turn to their local USO center where they will be surrounded by a supportive community.

Designed with comfort in mind, these centers are often outfitted with plushy furniture, a kitchen full of snacks, plenty of books, and programs and services that keep the military community connected and entertained. To learn more, and discover ways you can help support military children, visit https:// www.uso.org.“Although they don’t wear a uniform, military kids still serve in their own way, and they deserve our support,” says Reyes. Water Contaminants Can Impact Child Health. Here’s How To Remove Them

Clean, safe drinking water is essential for human health, especially for children, who are particularly vulnerable to certain contaminants. Local, state and federal policy has had some success in helping clean up drinking water supplies, but there are new reports of emerging contaminants linked to child development. Here’s what to know about some of the most common water contaminants linked to child health, along with information about how to filter them:

• PFAS: According to Environmental Working Group scientists, the presence of Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in American drinking water is much wider spread than previously thought. Contamination of drinking water or ground water has been detected at almost 1,400 sites in 49 states. This large class of chemicals -- which includes perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) -- is added to a range of products and packag-

ing. They are collectively referred to as “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down easily and can last thousands of years. They can also build up in the human body. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the blood of nearly all Americans is contaminated with PFAS. A new medical research study recently reported PFAS is altering hormonal and metabolic pathways needed for

child growth and development.

• Lead: The effects of lead contamination in water have become more well known since the crisis in Flint, Mich. became widely reported on in 2016. However, the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that there are between 6 to 10 million lead service lines still use in the country. When pipes that contain lead corrode, lead can

enter drinking water. Harmful to everyone, even minimal exposure can have a significant impact on children, and has been linked to nervous system damage, impaired hearing, learning disabilities and impaired blood cell function..

• Microplastics: Microplastics are fragments of plastic pollution, which are harmful to water ecosystems and unhealthy to consume. Microplastics are found in both tap and bottled water and in a 2022 study, were noted to be found in human blood. While the health effects of microplastics are still largely unknown, they are emerging as a common drinking water contaminant to be aware of.

Some Solutions

To learn about the contaminants found in your drinking water, you can access the Environmental Working Group’s Tap Water Database. No matter what you learn, it’s a good idea to filter your water.

Many home water filters only filter certain contaminants. It’s important to look for a water filter that removes chemicals including PFAS, heavy metals including lead, and that provides broader protection against emerging contaminants such as microplastics.

One option is the pitcher filters and dispenser filters offered by LifeStraw, which remove not only lead, PFAS and microplastics, but also bacteria, parasites and a variety of emerging contaminants, including pharmaceuticals.

When it comes to child health, PFAS and lead contamination in drinking water is a concerning problem at the local and national level. Fortunately, household solutions exist to make water safer for individuals and families. (StatePoint)

4 Misconceptions Homeowners Have About Floods

Many people look forward to spring when the weather warms up and flowers start to bloom, but it also marks the start of the peak time of year for flash flooding in the United States. According to NOAA, 75% of flash floods happen between late April and midSeptember. And while you may not want to think about it, when water backs up and overflows, it generally goes where it doesn’t belong and can cause serious damage to your home.

Unfortunately, many homeowners have misconceptions about floods, leaving them unprepared. Here are four of the biggest myths:

1. Homeowners insurance policies cover flood damage. A typical homeowners policy covers water damage from a sink or bathtub overflowing but won’t help with flood damage caused by storms –something many homeowners only discover after it’s too late. However, some insurance companies offer coverage to help fill the gaps so

you don’t have to pay out of pocket for repairs and replacements. For example, Erie Insurance now offers Extended Water coverage, which covers damage caused not only by natural disasters, but also by sewer and drain backups.

2. Only people who live in flood plains need flood insurance. A national survey commissioned by Erie Insurance found that 53% of

homeowners think only people who live in high-risk flood zones should buy flood insurance. However, 25% of flood claims are filed by people who live outside those areas. Additionally, FEMA says floodwater only needs to get a mere 3 inches high to make it likely that you’d need to replace drywall and baseboards.

3. There’s nothing you can do to

prevent flood damage. Nothing is foolproof, but there are ways to protect your home from water damage. Install a sump pump along with a battery backup and regularly test it. Improve drainage around your home by clearing leaves and debris from gutters, storm drains and downspouts. You can also install water sensors to alert you of water or leaks within your home. If a storm is on the way, plan ahead by placing valuables and sentimental items into plastic storage bins, moving items off the floor (especially if they are stored in basements and lower levels of a home) and by making a home inventory. A list of all your personal possessions, along with their estimated values, will help if you need to file an insurance claim.

4. Insurance can only help you after an incident. Many homeowners don’t realize they may be able to get reimbursed for taking steps to protect their homes when flooding is imminent. As one example, under certain circumstances Erie

Insurance will reimburse homeowners up to $10,000 for materials such as sandbags and the sand to fill them, fill for temporary levees, pumps or plastic sheeting and lumber used with these items, as well as labor.

“We encourage homeowners to not underestimate the risk of flooding, and to be aware of the significant amount of damage that even a small amount of water can cause,” said Michelle Tennant, vice president of product management, Erie Insurance. “Talk to your independent insurance agent about your home and your neighborhood to make sure you have the coverage that’s right for you.”

To learn more about protecting your home from floods, visit erieinsurance.com/extended-water.

Life is unpredictable. So is weather. But one thing is certain: if it can rain (or snow), it can flood. Make sure you’re protected with the right type of insurance. (StatePoint)

Why More Consumers Are Considering Lab-Grown Diamonds

Whether you’re popping the question and looking for the perfect engagement ring or you want to gift yourself a piece of timeless jewelry, you may be wary about purchasing a diamond. Not only does diamond mining harm the environment, human rights abuses associated with the industry may have you thinking twice about sporting this type of bling. The good news? Technology advances are changing the game.

“Lab-grown diamonds are quickly gaining popularity, and there’s a good reason for that -- they have the exact same physical and chemical properties as naturally occurring diamonds, but are ethical, sustainable and much more affordable,” says Jay Grdina, CEO of Adamas One, a lab-grown diamond manufacturer that produces near flawless, single-crystal diamonds for gemstone and industrial applications.

If you don’t know much about lab-grown diamonds, let these answers to some of the most commonly asked questions serve as your guide to a growing industry:

Are lab-grown diamonds, “real” diamonds? Yes. Lab-grown diamonds have the exact

same composition as Earth-mined diamonds and are certified and graded using the same process, one that assesses each gem by cut, color, clarity and carat.

Why is diamond mining harmful? Traditional diamond mining is inefficient. For every carat of diamond mined, nearly 100 square feet of land is disturbed and almost 6,000 pounds of mineral waste is created. This has wreaked ecological havoc throughout Africa and other parts of the world. What’s more, the industry is plagued by forced labor, child

labor and human rights abuses, and mined diamonds are often sold to finance war, terrorism and organized crime. For these reasons, mined diamonds are often referred to as “conflict diamonds” or “blood diamonds.”

On the other hand, lab-grown diamonds don’t support mining malpractices and have a much smaller carbon footprint.

Will I have the same choices when shopping for lab-grown diamonds? Like naturallyoccurring diamonds, lab-grown diamonds come in different colors, shapes and sizes, allowing you to get the exact look you want.

How are lab-grown diamonds made? The two primary methods for creating diamonds are the high-pressure-high-temperature (HPHT) method and the chemical vapor deposition

(CVD) method. Adamas One employs a patented CVD method and proprietary technology to produce high-quality, high-purity Type IIA diamonds in a few weeks or less.

What are the other benefits of lab-grown diamonds? No diamond is free, but due to the shorter supply chain, lab-grown diamonds can be anywhere from 30-60% less expensive than mined diamonds, making them a far more accessible gemstone alternative. And because diamonds are one of the toughest substances on the planet, they have a number of important industrial applications, including computing. As a result, lab-grown diamonds have the potential to help drive down costs for devices too, and make this industry more green and ethical.

To learn more, visit www.adamasone.com.

“A growing number of consumers today know that luxury and symbols of love don’t have to come at the cost of human lives or the health of the planet,” says Grdina. “Fortunately, there is no longer a need for people to compromise their ethics when buying and wearing the jewelry they love.” (StatePoint)

Have A Bump On Your Foot? Don’t Ignore It

Have a lump or bump on your foot? Whether it’s painful or not, it could potentially signal a serious condition. Foot and ankle surgeons warn it’s important to have it checked out, no matter its size or location on your foot.

“Whether your bump or lump is pea-sized or golf ball-sized, it should not go ignored. A proper diagnosis is key to proper treatment,” says Michael Coyer, DPM, FACFAS, a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and a Fellow Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS).

According to ACFAS, here’s what to know about some of the more common types of lumps found in the foot:

Ganglionic Cysts

This soft, fluid-filled sac is a non-cancerous bump that experts believe may arise from single or repetitive trauma. A ganglionic cyst can be caused by a leaking of jelly-like fluid from the “capsule” surrounding a joint or tendon and may be located on the top of the foot, near an ankle joint or even on the

side of the foot. While the lump itself is often the only symptom experienced, you may feel tingling or burning if it’s touching a nerve, or a dull ache if it’s pressing against a tendon or joint. Often, ganglionic cysts cause irritation, making it difficult to wear shoes. Such cysts generally will not go away on their own and

may return, even after being drained. Surgical removal by a foot and ankle surgeon can help prevent recurrence. However, if the cyst is not causing pain and doesn’t interfere with walking, your surgeon may simply monitor it over time.

Protecting Your Items – And The Earth – When Moving

Moving is a big job – and it can be a wasteful one, too, considering all of the packing material required. Make moving more sustainable with these eco-friendly tips:

Space Saving: Using thinner sustainable wrapping to secure your breakables avoids the need for excess storage and boxes. Flour-

ish Brand Honeycomb Cushion Wrap, made with 40% recycled content, offers a customizable way to pack boxes efficiently.

The die-cut honeycomb stretches easily with interlocking paper that attaches to itself, so no tape is needed. Once you unpack, the paper can be directly recycled, or stored to be

reused.

Folding In: Instead of using tape, fold your box tops in an interlocked, neat manner. They’ll stack up easily inside your vehicle, maximizing packing space, plus you won’t need to use any additional materials.

Unpack your items without tearing or ripping your box, then recycle or fold it flat to store for future use.

Stacking Up: Ensure your plates and serving ware stay scratch-free by using a protective layer between each item. Made of recycled content, Flourish Brand 100% Recycled Kraft Paper provides lasting security for traveling to your new home.

Blanketed: Oversized or uniquely shaped home décor can be exceptionally fragile and isn’t always easy to squeeze into standard storage containers.

When packing your vehicle, incorporate padding by wrapping these items in spare blankets, comforters or oversized towels. You’ll minimize the risk of damage to the items and have zero waste. (StatePoint)

Plantar Fibromas

Plantar fibromas are benign, fibrous, hard nodules found within the ligament of the foot and are especially common in the arch area on the bottom of the foot. These bumps tend to be less than an inch in diameter but can get larger over time. They can cause pain when shoes push against them or when you’re walking or standing barefoot.

Steroid injections, physical therapy or orthotic devices may help relieve associated discomfort but will not make the fibroma disappear.

While surgical removal is an option if pain persists following nonsurgical approaches, it’s important to know that recurrence can occur post-surgery, as can complications, such as a flattening of the arch or the development of hammertoes.

Haglund’s Deformity

Haglund’s deformity, sometimes called a “pump bump,” is a bony enlargement on the back of the heel. When it rubs against shoes -- from high-heeled pumps to running shoes -- the soft tissue near the Achilles tendon can become irritated.

This often leads to painful bursitis, an inflammation of the fluid-filled sac between the tendon and bone. While certain foot structures are more prone to Haglund’s deformity, you can treat the condition and help prevent recurrence with appropriate footwear, arch supports, orthotic devices and stretching exercises. Physical therapy, icing and NSAIDs can also reduce inflammation.

Sometimes, Dr. Coyer notes, a bump is suspected of being cancerous. In this case, your foot and ankle surgeon will perform a biopsy and if it is indeed cancer, will perform surgery to remove the mass, working in tandem with an oncologist for cancer treatment.

For more information on foot bumps or to find a foot and ankle surgeon near you, visit FootHealthFacts.org, the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeon’s patient education website.

“Remember, the sooner we’re able to properly evaluate your bump, the sooner you can have peace of mind and move forward with treatment,” says Dr. Coyer. (StatePoint)

Know The Early Warning Signs Of COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a long-term lung disease that makes it hard to breathe. A leading cause of disability and death in the United States, more than 12.5 million people have been diagnosed, and millions more may have the disease without even knowing it. While there is no cure, knowing COPD’s early warning signs can lead to earlier treatment and may prevent its progression.

The American Lung Association, funded with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is sharing the following insights to help Americans recognize the warning signs of COPD and take action:

Early Warning Signs of COPD

Not everyone has the same COPD symptoms, but some of the more common early warning signs and symptoms may include shortness of breath, a cough that may bring up mucus or phlegm, chest tightness, fatigue and reoccurring lung infections.

People may think these symptoms are because of aging, smoking or being out of shape and become less active to avoid experiencing them. These signs and symptoms shouldn’t be ignored. Speak with your healthcare provider if you experience any of these symptoms and discuss any activities you are

avoiding due to breathing difficulties.

Risk Factors and Diagnosis

Anyone can develop COPD, but people aged 40 or older and those who smoke or used to smoke are at higher risk. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of COPD, however 1 in 4 people with COPD never smoked cigarettes. Secondhand smoke, air pollution, workplace exposures to dust, fumes and chemicals, and a genetic condition called alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) are also causes and risk factors for COPD.

People are often diagnosed at later stages of COPD when the disease has progressed because they delayed sharing their early symptoms with their healthcare provider. Everyone with risk factors and those experiencing early warning signs

Though hard, it is an accepted fact.

Few live for themselves ignoring all, Few ignore selves to benefit all. Some leave their stamp for the reasons wrong, Some for good deeds, reminisced for long.

should talk to their healthcare provider about any breathing issues. It’s especially important for women to do so. Because COPD has been historically thought of as a “man’s disease” or an “old person’s disease,” women are sometimes misdiagnosed or receive a delayed diagnosis. But overall, more women are affected by COPD than men and the death rate is higher in women. In addition,

A Look

women tend to develop the disease at a younger age.

To diagnose COPD, the healthcare provider will evaluate symptoms, gather a complete health history, conduct a health exam and perform a pulmonary function test called spirometry. The results of the spirometry test can determine if you have COPD.

Lifestyle Changes

In addition to treatment, certain lifestyle changes may make a difference, as patients living with COPD know firsthand. After being diagnosed with stage 2 COPD in the wake of a COVID-19 infection, Bob F. partnered with his doctor and started monitoring his breathing at home and leaned into exercise. His hard work has paid off, with his last pulmonary function test showing that the disease has not progressed, and he is in better overall shape than before.

“Most of the advice you should follow is no different than what doctors tell us all. Eat right, exercise, sleep, drink plenty of water, manage your weight and don’t smoke. If you do these things, you may slow the progression of your COPD,” says Bob.

But you shouldn’t wait until a COPD diagnosis to make these changes. Lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, avoiding secondhand smoke and reducing your exposure to air pollution may reduce your risk for developing COPD.

If you are experiencing shortness of breath or other respiratory symptoms, do not delay talking to your healthcare provider about your symptoms or COPD risk factors. For more information about COPD, visit Lung.org/COPD. (StatePoint)

At The Many Types Of Vegetarians

In India – Which One Are You?

Vegetarian diet has changed, by a lot. And it’s spreading, fast.

Why? People are trying to undo the years of fast food blessings that’s now dissolved in everyone’s DNA. Also, it’s a cool kids thing now!

So many different types of Vegetarians have risen in the past five years. And today we are about to find out exactly what kinds are there?

1. Fruitarian (The extreme Vegetarian)

To this day nobody knows for sure, if this type of vegetarian diet is an actual vegetraian path to divinity or just some sickened genius who nudged it in the community once to exact revenge and it caught on.

A fruitarian can be distinctly known among regular humans since he or she sustains his/her life through only fruits.

Fruitarian, an extension of the vegan way, doesn’t allow for anything meat, dairy or even vegetation related product to be consumed. They only eat fruits, and even that has conditions, like naturally fallen fruits are ok, fruit with seeds are not and grains are a huge No-No.

However this diet disturbs your internal construction fatally, since it has nothing “fruitful” to your body’s nutrition quota. No Proteins, no calcium, no zinc, no fatty acids which are all very important to live.

Vegans consume nothing that has even a minuscule essence of animal parts, even dairy products, since they are against the animals being seen as a commodity.

So it’s an idea, not just food preference. When you go vegan, you don’t just eat the rightest way, you become the rightest.

Veganism is technically historically registered to have started in the olden times, when religion was just getting some final touches to enter the world. However, nothing starts truly unless it starts on social media. So the real date of veganism’s birth is the latter parts of the 2010.

A large number of humans, after following the religious tradition of starving themselves off of the good stuffs, to make the world a better place for…uh…canaries, the birds and the bees maybe, they decided you know what, let’s cut some slack on this thing now.

Lacto vegetarianism is when you eat anything of the vegetation, fallen naturally or not, grains or not along with milk and dairy products as well. Just no eggs or meat. (Continued On Page 08)

Honoring The Bravery And Sacrifice Of U.S. Service Members

Every year, the United Service Organizations (USO) honors junior enlisted service members who have exhibited a commitment to protecting and serving others both on and off duty. Nominated by their command leadership, the seven 2022 USO Service Members of the Year come from every military branch, and government officials, military leaders and USO supporters recently celebrated their achievements at the USO’s Annual Awards Dinner in Washington DC, hosted by Drew Carey.

“From defending an Air Base to rescuing civilians in accidents and fires, these honorees have performed inspiring acts of heroism, exemplifying the values of both the USO and the Armed Forces,” said USO president and CEO, J.D. Crouch II. Here’s what to know about this year’s honorees:

• USO Soldier of the Year: Sergeant Erick Ceja was responsible for enabling the first U.S. Patriot missile engagement in combat in

more than 19 years after incoming enemy ballistic missiles were identified as threats to the Al Dhafra Air Base. He analyzed the incoming threat, manned his battle station to ensure all launchers were operating properly and led his crew members through a perfect assumption drill. His actions ensured the safety of more than 3,500 service members and Department of Defense civilians.

• USO Airman of the Year: Without hesitation, Staff Sergeant Blake M. Metscher climbed through an overturned minivan to rescue a trapped family suffering from head trauma and lacerations in a multi-vehicle highway accident. His actions were key to the victims’ survival and lauded by first responders.

• USO Coast Guardsman of the Year: Maritime Enforcement Specialist Second Class Jacob Flores saved three lives on an uncharted section of the Rio Grande River while operating a Response Boat early one morning. Upon spotting two women and an infant struggling with no life preservers,

Flores dove in to pull them from the unforgiving river despite imminent personal danger. His actions ensured the safety of all three victims who received emergency medical care after the rescue.

• USO Marine of the Year: Corporal Alec T. Cruz saved the life of a fellow Marine after responding to a 911 call requesting medical assistance for an unconscious service member. He quickly placed her in the recovery position, evalu-

ated her condition, and initiated CPR when her breathing stopped and a pulse could no longer be located.

Cruz revived the Marine after two cycles of CPR and provided lifesaving support while awaiting medical care.

• USO Sailor of the Year: While off duty near his home base in Virginia, Cryptologic Petty Officer Third Class Ty Knight responded to the sound of gunshots from a drive-by at a nearby intersection. He and another sailor took action, supported the survivor at the scene and remained with them until emergency officials arrived.

• USO National Guardsman of the Year: Specialist Solomon Doss responded to a fire early one morning while on duty as a police officer in Alabama. He brought an elderly

woman who had become incapacitated due to smoke inhalation to safety before the building was engulfed in flames. His composure and rapid response saved her life.

• USO Guardian of the Year: Sergeant Octavio Cesar Castruita was off duty when he witnessed a pregnant woman cry for help as a visibly distraught man attempted to seize her vehicle. He ran to the woman’s aid, then detained the offender long enough for emergency responders to take him into police custody. Castruita’s rapid response saved the woman and her unborn child from harm.

4. Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian (Anda veg hota hai)

Lacto-Ovo diet consists mainly of all the fruits or vegetables, and apart from that even eggs, honey and milk (plus other dairy products) are NOT off limits! Lac is Latin for milk and Ovo is egg, that shouldn’t bother your brain as to why this diet is called specifically so because NO OTHER MEATS besides egg. If you want more, name that diet a little bit different than this one. Also, why do people still find Latin fancy enough to name everything scientific?

5. Jain Vegetarian

Monday

(Take-Away

Jain vegetarianism is a rigorous process of following the path of ahimsa or non violence. It forbids to consume anything which may harm any kind of life forms, one doesn’t even eat vegetables like garlic and onions, since they are gathered by uprooting the plants and disturbing the micro-organisms! Jain vegetarians only eat fruits, grains and vegetables except onions and garlic.

Himsa or violence accumulates bad karma over the time and it really doesn’t seem a lot at first but after a few years of accumulation, bad karma then shows its true color when you are about to invest everything in your new start-up. As recorded in the great ancient texts and twitter for the past 7 years or so.

6. Sattvic Diet

The brother diet to Jain vegetarianism, Sattvic diet is based on the energy a type of food gives to a human body.

Many Americans however are finding new ways to ease the burden on their mental health.

Here are a few of the habits and attitudes that have helped those who report having better mental health now than they did prepandemic:

• Exercise. Getting more exercise has helped 78% of respondents achieve better mental health during this time of financial uncertainty.

• Spending more time with hobbies and interests. Seventy-four percent of respondents have seen an improvement in their mental health by spending more time and focus on their hobbies and industries.

Whether it’s knitting, playing a sport or birdwatching, taking on a new hobby can be an effective way to better your mental health.

• Spending time with loved ones. The pandemic was a long period of separation for many, but with life back to normal, spending time with loved ones has been a proven way to boost mental health, with 74% of respondents seeing an improvement.

• Rest. Now is a great time to sit back and take some time to relax, as 73% reported an improvement in their mental health from just taking time to rest.

• Cooking and healthy eating. The pandemic gave many a chance to spend more time in the kitchen cooking their favorite meals.

Seventy-two percent of respondents attribute cooking and healthy eating to helping improve their mental health.

During these difficult financial times, spending more time in the kitchen can be a great way to help ease stress, save money on meals and of course, reap the physical and mental benefits of a good, balanced meal.

• Work-life balance. This has been a stressful time for employees, with news of layoffs coming almost daily, on top of the already existing financial stressors.

However, 72% of respondents attribute achieving a better work-life balance to lowering stress levels and improving their mental health.

Easy Hacks To Live A More Sustainable Lifestyle

Ninety percent of Americans want to live more sustainably, but only 11% consistently do. Why? Research from Procter & Gamble conducted in 2023 found that Americans think sustainable habits at home are too difficult (82%), too expensive (89%) and sacrifice product performance (73%).

Sustainable choices don’t have to be a burden though, especially if you know where to prioritize your efforts.

For example, the highest environmental footprint of many everyday products, like laundry and dish detergents, comes from the water and energy needed to do the job, like when you wash your dishes in the sink or use your washing machine.

As part of the #ItsOurHome campaign, Cascade and Tide have partnered with digital creators to offer the following easy hacks to help you live a more sustainable lifestyle, continue to get great results and save money on household bills:

Skip the Sink

Did you know that a dishwasher uses 4 gallons of water per cycle while the sink can use the same amount in just two minutes? In fact, each week you use an Energy Star-certified dishwasher you can save up to 140 gallons of water versus washing dishes at a running sink for 11 minutes per day.

You can also skip some of the traditional dishwashing steps when you select the right detergent. Brands like Cascade are building a waterpositive future and helping to reduce daily water use in American households by offering options that provide a high-quality clean without the need to pre-rinse dishes.

With its innovative formula, the enzymes within Cascade Platinum ActionPacs latch on, break down and wash away food so you can skip the sink and save water.

“We know people want to save water, but they also want clean dishes.

That’s why we created a sustainability hack, not a tradeoff,” says Marchoe Northern, senior vice president and general manager of North American Home Care at Procter & Gamble.

Beyond ecology-minded product innovation, Cascade has also joined the Change the Course ini-

tiative to support several water restoration projects in the United States. Over their lifetime, these projects are expected to restore nearly 2 billion gallons of freshwater in water-stressed regions.

Clean on Cold Washing laundry in cold versus hot

water uses over 90% less energy in every load.

Put another way, that’s enough energy savings to power the entire average American household for over an hour.

Consider the 30 billion loads of laundry done in the United States and Canada annually. That’s an enormous amount of energy that could be saved with a simple turn of the dial.

If you’re concerned about the cleaning performance of a cold wash cycle, consider this, Tide has innovated its products to clean on cold, every load, every cycle. Tide is on a mission to turn three out of four washes to cold water by 2030, which will help prevent an estimat-

ed 27 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the Earth’s atmosphere.

Washing in cold water with Tide means lower emissions, more financial savings on your energy bills, and a gentler wash that helps preserve clothes longer.

“At Tide, we want to reduce the environmental impact of a load of laundry and increase the impact of clean clothes,” says Amy Krehbiel, brand vice president of Fabric Care Innovation at Procter & Gamble. “We are proud to be helping families live more sustainably.”

Learn more about Tide’s sustainability initiative by joining the conversation on social at #TurnToCold.

With today’s current climate crisis, you may be looking for ways to lower your carbon footprint at home, and thanks to product innovation, that’s easier today than ever before. (StatePoint)

How To Save For Retirement When You’re In Your 50s

(Continued From Page 01)

pre-retirement years to make sure you get there.

1. Set realistic goals

First item for consideration: your savings and investments thus far. Hopefully, you’ve been stashing away money consistently, making maximum contributions to 401(k) plans and IRAs, as well as other accounts.

How much is enough? That depends on your lifestyle and expenses, potential medical bills and the kind of support you’ll have from, say, a pension plan and Social Security.

As you review your savings goals,

be careful not to set the bar too low. Use a retirement calculator to get a better idea of how much you might need to save. If you need some assistance, call in the experts. Consider meeting with a fee-only financial advisor who can make sure you’re on the right track.

2. Tackle debt

One thing that can keep you from saving for retirement is lingering debt. By the time you’re 50 years old, one big debt hurdle you may have left to clear is your mortgage.

Once upon a time, mortgage-burning parties were a fun way to celebrate the achievement of owning your home free and clear.

But that rite of passage is becom-

ing less common. Nearly half of homeowners between the ages of 60 and 70 have a mortgage when they retire, according to a study by American Financing.

Without a mortgage to pay for, you could focus on saving or investing in the stock market. Paying off your home will likely take time, but in the long run, it’s worth it.

3. Take advantage of catch-up contributions

If you didn’t make saving for retirement a priority early in life, it’s not too late to catch up. At age 50, you can start making extra contributions to your tax-sheltered retirement accounts (called catch-up contributions).

Younger workers can only contribute $22,500 to their 401(k)s and $6,500 to their IRAs in 2023. But Americans aged 50 and up can contribute up to $30,000 in a 401(k) and up to $7,500 in an IRA.

An emergency situation may force you to dip into your retirement savings (especially if you haven’t set aside enough money for emergencies).

Just keep in mind that tapping your 401(k) or IRA before age 59 1/2 will cost you. There are exceptions, but in most cases you’ll pay a 10 percent penalty for an early withdrawal. (Continued On Page 12)

5. Make the most of Social Security

Social Security benefit. By having the higher earner wait to claim their benefits, you’ll have a bigger pot to pull from in retirement.

Another important consideration when deciding when to take Social Security is your tax situation. Kovar says from a tax standpoint, it’s the best source of income we have outside of Roth IRAs.

dia’s population at 1,428.6 million or 1.4286 billion against 1.4257 billion for China.

The United States is a distant third, with an estimated population of 340 million, the data showed. The data reflects information available as of Feb. 2023, the report said.

Population experts using previous data from the U.N. have projected India would go past China this month. But the latest report from the global body did not specify a date for when the change would take place.

U.N. population officials have said it was not possible to specify a date due to “uncertainty” about the data coming out of India and China, especially since India’s last census was conducted in 2011 and the next one due in 2021 has been delayed due to the pandemic.

Although India and China will account for more than one-third of

Last year, China’s population fell for the first time in six decades, a historic turn that is expected to mark the start of a long period of decline in its citizen numbers with profound implications for its economy and the world.

India’s annual population growth has averaged 1.2% since 2011, compared with 1.7% in the 10 years previously, according to government data.

“The Indian survey findings suggest that population anxieties have seeped into large portions of the general public,” Andrea Wojnar, Representative for UNFPA India, said in a statement.

“Yet, population numbers should not trigger anxiety or create alarm. Instead, they should be seen as a symbol of progress, development, and aspirations if individual rights and choices are being upheld,” she said. (Courtesy: https://www.nbcnews.com/)

A couple in their mid-60s will need $315,000 to cover health care costs in retirement, according to a 2022 Fidelity Investments estimate. Then there’s the stratospheric cost of extended care at nursing homes.

A report from Genworth Financial says the median annual cost of a semi-private room in a nursing home was $93,600 in 2021.

With that in mind, retirement planning must include some consideration of future medical costs.

One option is long-term health insurance, which pays for extended medical care, including such things as nursing and assisted living. If you qualify, you should also consider opening a health savings account.

This will reduce your taxable income. Your savings, which can be invested, will grow tax-free and once you turn 65, you can make withdrawals without paying any penalties or taxes (savings are only taxed if you use the money to pay for anything besides qualified medical expenses). Before choosing an account, you will want to shop

The earliest you can start taking Social Security is technically age 62. But at 50, it doesn’t hurt to start thinking about your plan for collecting benefits. You can use Bankrate’s Social Security calculator to estimate your benefits.

Experts say most people take Social Security too early. That’s a mistake. Delaying retirement doesn’t just give you the potential to earn more. It also affects the size of your monthly benefit checks.

Elijah Kovar, co-founder of Great Waters Financial in Minneapolis, says that by drawing Social Security at 70 instead of age 62, your monthly benefit amount rises by about 76 percent.

Waiting to collect Social Security, Kovar says, is also a good idea if you’re married and you earn more money.

If one spouse outlives the other, the surviving spouse keeps the larger

Maximizing your Social Security benefit also comes down to implementing strategies that will lower the amount of income that’s subject to taxation, like donating assets to charity.

6. Generate income beyond investing

Your investments are likely a stream of income you plan to use in retirement.

Besides your portfolio and retirement savings, however, you should think of other ways to increase your earnings, like getting a side hustle.

A 2022 Bankrate survey found that 31 percent of Americans earn extra income on the side.

Freelancing or serving as a consultant can provide additional earnings if you’re behind when it comes to saving for retirement.

And it’s less risky than alternative routes like buying an annuity. (Courtesy: https://www.bankrate. com/)

GEJJE - A GREAT FEELING

if you are out of sight briefly. When it sees you again, it greets you as though it is meeting for the first time, jumping all over you.

How many people truly miss you? Maybe your wife, children, friends, probably someone you borrowed from. But there is one soul that misses you every moment and loves you unconditionally.

Guess who? Yes, you are correct. The tiny puppy you brought home some time back misses you, even

You cannot get that from anyone.

My daughter wanted to adopt a dog from a shelter, and she toured multiple centers in the town and shortlisted a few of them. Before finalizing, we all visited the adoption center and picked one with a combination of black, white, and brownish coats. She is a pretty active, well-behaved girl, so we brought her home. We called her

Gejje, which means - musical anklet.

On our way, we went shopping for Gejje. My daughter said we need at least two beds for her, one upstairs and one in the living room. Sure, she is my daughter and is always correct. She selected a couple of beds for Gejje to sleep in and all supplies, including poop bags, ‘dad, what do you think? We have $9 and $13 bags, which I should buy’.

Gejje brought back memories of another dog my mom adopted decades ago. My parents had constructed a new home, and we had just moved in. Maybe in a few days, we spotted a stray dog in front of the house one evening. He was a brown dog and looked very weak. The guy hung around for some time, and after we all finished our dinner, my mother took some leftover food and fed him, which is the most usual practice. He ate his food and disappeared.

The next day evening, around the same time, he appeared again. My mother told me to give him some food which I did. That night he did not leave after food. He lingered around. Our house was on a sizable plot, and he lay close to the gate where some shelter existed. And he stayed with us for the next ten years. My mother called him ‘Rama,’ and he loved her. I used to do a lot of work for him, like showering, taking him for a walk, and even sharing chocolates and biscuits, and he liked me. My mother used to say she would know I was

coming at least one minute before I was home. She said Rama’s behavior would suddenly change, his tail would wag in a particular fashion, and he would make strange noises, very similar all the time, whenever he sensed my arrival.

But if my mother is around, his whole persona will change. He will smile ear to ear, behave most obediently, follows her instructions, and never care for anyone else. He stayed loyal to my mother for ten years before getting into a road accident. That was a sorrowful day for all of us.

Gajje is doing well, and I remember Rama whenever she comes rushing after missing me for some time. And it is a great feeling.

5 Ways To Show Your Support This Military Appreciation Month

U.S. military service members are ready to be called upon at any time to protect the country, and May, which is Military Appreciation Month, is the perfect opportunity to express gratitude for their sacrifices

Military Appreciation Month was initially recognized by a U.S. Senate resolution in 1999. Although the entire month is designated to honoring past and present military members and their families, there are several holidays sprinkled throughout the month that honor service members, including Loyalty Day, VE Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Mother’s Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day.

“This year in particular, many more service members are overseas supporting NATO due to war in Ukraine. These deployments should be a reminder to all Americans of the importance of expressing our gratitude to the men and women in the military who sacrifice so much for us,” says Christopher Plamp, United Service Organizations (USO) senior vice

president of Operations, Programs, and Entertainment and an Air Force veteran.

With its long history of keeping America’s military service members connected to family, home and country, the USO is providing five ideas for how to honor and support service members and their families.

1. Say “Thank You.” The simplest way to support service members is to thank them for their service. According to the Blue Star Fami-

lies 2022 Military Family Lifestyle Survey, only one-third of activeduty families feel a sense of belonging to their local civilian community.

You can send a message of support and encouragement to service members through the USO’s website.

“Acknowledging the immense challenges of military life can have a real, positive impact. The simple act of thanks can show military members that their work is valued and appreciated,” says Plamp.

2. Send a Care Package. Sending care packages with items such as snacks and hygiene products lets service members know that the American people are thinking of them, even from thousands of miles away. The USO Care Package program simplifies the process of sending military care packages, which can be complicated. You can support this program by making a monetary donation to the USO. Another option is to check out the USO Wishbook, where you can select a symbolic gift, such as a USO Care Package, from a catalog to be sent to service members. In 2022, the USO delivered 200,000 of these care packages globally.

3. Support Military Spouses. Deployments are challenging for military spouses. Aside from being separated from their loved ones, military spouses must also shoulder household responsibilities alone. For military families with children, this can be even more difficult. Offer to cook a family dinner or pick up groceries. Even simply reaching out to ask how they are doing can make a difference.

4. Volunteer. There are many challenging, but rewarding volunteer opportunities that serve the men and women in uniform, including with the USO, where you will see the impact of your support firsthand. Many USO locations need volunteers who can facilitate programs and events, and help ensure the military community has the resources and support they need to carry out their missions.

5. Donate. Show your support through the annual USO T-shirt campaign, which raises funds for the USO’s mobile and center operations, programs and entertainment, transition services and more. The campaign also builds awareness and understanding of military families. To learn more, visit https://www.uso.org/tshirt.

“From simple words of gratitude to hands-on volunteering, there are many ways to let service members who selflessly put their lives on the line every day know we value their service,” says Plamp. (StatePoint)

Connecting Those With Heart Defects To Needed Care

Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are the most common birth defects and doctors and affected families can help ensure that individuals with CHDs receive lifelong congenital cardiac care to stay healthy. In 2010, it was estimated that approximately 1 million children and 1.4 million adults were living with a CHD in the United States. However, about 60% of individuals with CHDs don’t see a congenital cardiology specialist after age 18 for follow-up.

Congenital cardiology care is essential, even for those who are not currently experiencing symptoms. In addition to the need to manage the CHD, affected individuals remain at risk for developing acquired cardiac conditions of adulthood. These include a range of potentially serious conditions such as arrhythmias, atherosclerotic heart disease, congestive heart failure,

endocarditis, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and pulmonary hypertension.

According to advocates, a primary care physician is often the only doctor a patient sees, making it

critical that patients disclose their CHD to their their doctors, and for doctors to help ensure they get the specialized care they need to stay healthy and safe over the years.

“Although most individuals with CHDs require lifelong congenital

cardiac care, many children and adults experience gaps in care for several years or more,” says Dr. Sherry Farr from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Whether these lapses are due to loss of insurance, financial barriers or an inaccurate belief that their heart defect has ‘been cured,’ physicians that these patients see for other reasons can facilitate continuity of cardiac care.”

Dr. Farr suggests that physicians start the conversation with patients by asking them if they ever had heart problems. After learning that a patient has a heart defect, they should then emphasize the need for continuous care, even in cases where patients feel well. Doctors should be prepared to both explain the vital role of congenital cardiologists and provide a referral for a specialist in the area. Patients with CHDs should share their health

history at their appointment and be ready to ask questions and seek referrals.

The new CHD Awareness Toolkit from the American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers resources to help physicians connect people with heart defects to the care they need. It includes materials for pediatricians and family physicians (who treat children), internal medicine physicians and family physicians (who treat adults), obstetrician-gynecologists and emergency room physicians. To learn more or to download the toolkit, visit aap.org/CHDcare.

People with heart defects need lifelong congenital cardiac care. By getting the conversation started, patients and physicians can help ensure continuity of care. (StatePoint)

Preserving Biodiversity Through Sustainable Development

Many industries around the globe are prioritizing sustainable development to ensure a healthy planet for the future.

For the Mexican avocado industry, success depends on the conservation of natural resources, soil, forests and water, which is why it is working to reduce its impact to protect the natural environment.

One important priority is supporting biodiversity – the variety of plants and animals in one region or ecosystem – through environmentally friendly and responsible practices.

Most Mexican Hass avocados exported to the U.S. begin their journey in Michoacán, Mexico, an area known for its flourishing ecosys- tem. The

3 Tips For Creating A Summer Of Unplugged Fun

Between school, work and entertainment, there are times when screens can seem like a pervasive part of modern life.

For all the positive aspects of technology, there can also be a desire for children to have stretches of unplugged learning and participate in educational activities that do not require a screen.

Why Unplugged Learning Matters

“Unplugged learning is important to balance the screen time children may experience with other forms of learning; to promote physical activities, social interaction and creativity; and develop the essential skills that bolster them throughout their exploration and growth as individuals,” said Rurik Nackerud from KinderCare’s education team.

Summer can be an ideal time to focus on unplugged learning as it often brings a break from the traditional academic year and activities.

“We want summer to be a time when children can put down technology and connect with one another face-to-face, build important creativity skills and learn how to be social with one another without the buffer of screens,” said Khy Sline

from KinderCare’s education team.

“They can play, run, be immature and laugh with their friends, giggle at the silly things and find joys in those in-person interactions with one another.”

Tips for Creating Unplugged Fun as a Family

1. Get Outdoors. Make time as a family to get outside and explore, even if it’s simply a walk around the block after dinner. Help children notice the little things like a bug on the sidewalk or the way the sun filters through tree leaves to make patterns on the ground. Ask them about the things they see and give your children the space to ask

questions and work together to find the answers.

This helps teach children collaborative learning skills: asking questions, sharing ideas and working together to reach an answer.

2. Read Together. This could mean going to the library to check out new books or exploring your family’s bookshelves for old favorites. Snuggle up together for family story time.

If children are old enough to read on their own, invite them to read to you or their younger siblings. Talk about the story or even act out

enhancing biodiversity and promoting sustainable development and forest conservation by:

Protecting Pollinators

Bees and wild pollinators like butterflies, are essential to ensuring avocado trees have resources and support to grow.

Avocado orchard production increases 25% when pollinators are present, and 80% of Mexican avocado production is due to pollinators.

On top of that, about 30% of avocado orchards in Michoacán have added beehives or work with local beekeepers to rent beehives to increase the presence of bees on the farms.

Avocado farmers also take care to use plant- and flower-friendly agrochemicals at the right time when pollinators aren’t active.

favorite parts to help your children actively participate in story time, which may help them better understand the story’s concepts.

3. Encourage Creative Thinking. Help children expand their ability to think creatively by working together to make a craft or project.

For example, the next time a delivery box arrives at your home, encourage your children to turn it into something new using craft supplies on hand.

A blanket could turn a box into a table for a pretend restaurant while some tape or glue could transform it into a rocket ship or train. When everyone’s done creating and playing, the box can be broken down for recycling.

This activity can help children literally think outside of the box and apply their own unique ideas and creativity to create something new.

Through its partnership with Forests For Monarchs, MHAIA has planted more than 1.2 million trees to protect the environment and reforest the area close to the reserve of the monarch butterfly, an important native pollinator in Mexico.

Maintaining Habitats Through Forest Preservation

APEAM’s efforts to preserve more than 1.3 million acres of the “Avocado Strip” includes preventing and responding to fires, creating a biological corridor and researching sustainable developments for soil and water. The industry has supported planting nearly 2.9 million trees throughout Michoacán.

Water Conservation

Water use is also critical; approximately 61% of the avocado orchards in Michoacán rely on rainfall and natural irrigation. Another 36% utilize sustainable irrigation.

7 Vegetables To Grow Easily In Your Home Garden

Growing fresh, healthy vegetables at home may not be as hard as it sounds. Novice gardeners just need good dirt, easy plants to grow, lots of sunshine and the right amount of water.

Once you’ve prepared your garden plot, select one or all of these vegetables, which are among the easiest to grow:

1. Lettuce – Plant lettuce seeds directly into the garden or a pot then repeat every two weeks. It can be cut a few weeks after planting. Some harvest lettuce by pulling it up – roots and all – but cutting a little off the top every few days can keep it growing until summer’s heat turns it too bitter.

2. Spinach – This vitamin-packed green is planted and harvested just like lettuce.

3. Cucumbers – Make several mounds of dirt near the edge of your garden and place 2-3 plants around the center of each. Cucumbers are notorious for growing vines that overtake other plants, so be vigilant about keeping them contained.

4. Squash – Like cucumbers, summer squash is planted on small mounds at the edges of a garden so their vines can be contained. Most varieties, such as yellow squash and zucchini, are quite prolific and just a few plants can feed a large family all summer long.

5. Tomatoes – Purchase plants that grow best in your area of the country from your local garden center. All plants should be staked or enclosed in tomato cages because successful plants produce an abundance of large, heavy

fruit throughout the summer months.

6. Bell Peppers – Bell peppers are easiest to grow from plants. Space them about 1 foot apart then watch them take off with little care required.

The only real trick to growing bell peppers is knowing when to harvest. If you’re growing red, orange or yellow varieties, they’ll start out green then turn color as soon as they ripen.

7. Carrots – Dig a long, shallow trench in soil that is free of rock. Sprinkle the seeds along the row, cover lightly with topsoil and wait for the top of the carrot to pop through the soil. Once a bit of orange appears, pull and enjoy.

Understanding Thread Counts

Many companies use thread count to make their sheets more appealing and luxurious, but a bigger number doesn’t always mean a good buy.

Before you reach into your wallet, consider these truths about thread counts.

A thread count is a scientific term

with strict federal standards on how the threads are counted.

Simply put, it measures the number of threads woven together per square inch, counted lengthwise and widthwise.

A 400-thread count sheet will have 200 threads lengthwise and 200 widthwise.

When a sheet has a count of 150, it is considered a muslin fabric, which isn’t all that soft to the touch. Any count of 180 or above is considered high quality, but anything beyond 400 is likely to only signify a higher price tag.

However, a sheet with a thread count of 200 can be softer to the touch than one with a 400 thread count.

The quality of sheets depends not

only on the thread count, but on the quality of fibers within those threads as well. Many stores and manufacturers tout Egyptian cotton as the best because of its long, strong fibers, which are more durable than most other cottons.

Another high-quality cotton type is pima, also known for its extra-long fibers.

When shopping for new sheets,

make sure you are looking at both the thread count and the quality. Look for a count between 200-400 and make sure the fabric quality is high to ensure you get the best bang for your buck, as well as a comfortable night’s sleep.

Bibi Ka Maqbara

The Bibi Ka Maqbara is a tomb located in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India.

It was commissioned in 1660 by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s son prince Azim Shah in the memory of his loving mother Dilras Banu Begum.

It bears a striking resemblance to the Taj Mahal, the mausoleum of Aurangzeb’s mother, Mumtaz Mahal.

Aurangzeb was not much interested in architecture though he had commissioned the small, but elegant, Pearl Mosque at Delhi.

Bibi Ka Maqbara is the second largest structure that Aurangzeb has built, the largest being the Badshahi Mosque.

The comparison to the Taj Mahal has often obscured its very own considerable charm.

Due to the strong resemblance, it is also called the Dakkhani Taj (Taj of the Deccan). Bibi Ka Maqbara is the “principal monument” of Aurangabad and its historic city.

An inscription found on the main entrance door mentions that this mausoleum was designed and erected by Ata-ullah, an architect and Hanspat Rai, an engineer respectively.

Ata-ullah was the son of Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, the principal designer of the Taj Mahal.

Aurangzeb’s son, Muhammad Azam Shah was in later years put in charge of overseeing the repairwork of the mausoleum by Shah Jahan.

Dilras Banu Begum was born a princess of the prominent Safavid dynasty of Iran (Persia) and was the daughter of Mirza Badi-uzZaman Safavi (titled Shahnawaz Khan), who was the viceroy of Gujarat.

She married Prince Muhi-ud-din (later known as Aurangzeb upon his accession) on 8 May 1637 in

Agra. Dilras was his first wife and chief consort, as well as his favourite.

She bore him five children — Zebun-Nissa, Zinat-un-Nissa, Zubdatun-Nissa, Muhammad Azam Shah and Sultan Muhammad Akbar.

After giving birth to her fifth child, Muhammad Akbar, Dilras Banu Begum possibly suffered from puerperal fever, due to complications caused by the delivery and died a month after the birth of her son on 8 October 1657.

Upon her death, Aurangzeb’s pain was extreme and their eldest son, Azam Shah, was so grieved that he had a nervous breakdown.

It became Dilras’ eldest daughter, Princess Zeb-un-Nissa’s responsibility to take charge of her newborn brother.

Zeb-un-Nissa doted on her brother a lot, and at the same time, Aurangzeb greatly indulged his motherless son and the prince soon became his best-loved son.

In 1660, Aurangzeb commissioned a mausoleum at Aurangabad to act as Dilras’ final resting place, known as Bibi Ka Maqbara (“Tomb of the Lady”).

Here, Dilras was buried under the posthumous title of ‘Rabiaud-Daurani’ (“Rabia of the Age”).

In the following years, her tomb was repaired by her son Azam Shah under Aurangzeb’s orders.

Bibi Ka Maqbara was the largest structure that Aurangzeb had to his credit and bears a striking resemblance to the Taj Mahal, the mausoleum of Dilras’ mother-in-law, Empress Mumtaz Mahal, who herself died in childbirth.

Aurangzeb, himself, is buried a few kilometers away from her mausoleum in Khuldabad.

Bibi Ka Maqbara is believed to have been built between 1668 and 1669 C.E. According to the

“Tarikh Namah” of Ghulam Mustafa, the cost of construction of the mausoleum was Rs. 668,203-7 (rupees six lakh, sixty-eight thousand, two hundred three and seven annas) – Aurangzeb allocated only Rs. 700,000 for its construction.

An inscription found on the main entrance door mentions that this mausoleum was designed and erected by Ata-ullah, an architect and Hanspat Rai, an engineer respectively.

The marble for this mausoleum was brought from mines near Jaipur.

According to Tavernier, around three hundred carts laden with marble, drawn by at least 12 oxen, were seen by him during his journey from Surat to Golconda.

The mausoleum was intended to rival the Taj Mahal, but the decline in architecture and proportions of the structure (both due to the severe budgetary constraints imposed by Aurangzeb) had resulted in a different and particular monument with its own significant beauty.

Akbar And Birbal

Akbar and Birbal’s First Meeting

Once Akbar went deep into the woods, with his companions, hunting wild animals but with no luck. Tired and thirsty, they decided to visit the nearby village and met a young local boy named Mahesh Das who readily agreed to help them.

The boy had no idea who Akbar was, so he cross-questioned him when Akbar asked the little boy what his name was.

Seeing his confidence and cleverness, Akbar gave him a ring and asked him to meet him when he grows up.

Later the boy realized that it was a

royal ring and he had just met Emperor Akbar. After few years, when Mahesh Das grew up, he decided to visit Ak-

bar’s court. He was standing in a corner in the court when Akbar asked his noblemen which flower they think is the

most beautiful flower on earth. Some answered rose, some lotus, some jasmine but Mahesh Das suggested that in his opinion it is the cotton flower.

The entire court started laughing as cotton flowers are odorless. Mahesh Das then explained how useful cotton flowers are as the cotton grown from this flower is used to make clothes for people in summers as well as in winters.

Akbar was impressed with the answer. Mahesh Das then introduced himself and showed the Emperor the ring he had given years ago. Akbar happily appointed him as one of the noblemen in his court and Mahesh Das came to be known as Birbal.

Austin ISD Celebrates Grand Opening Of LBJ Early College High School’s Phase 1 Modernization

AUSTIN, TEXAS — April 20, 2023 — Austin ISD and LBJ Early College High School celebrated the grand opening of the school’s Phase 1 modernization yesterday evening, built as part of the 2017 Bond Program. Students, teachers and community members came together for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the renovated courtyard.

The event featured remarks from LBJ Principal Joseph Welch, Interim Superintendent Matias Segura, Board President Arati Singh and District 1 Trustee Candace Hunter. Guests enjoyed tours of the new spaces and a pep rally that included performances by the LBJ Marching Band and The First Ladies.

“It’s been exciting to see students enjoying these new spaces that not only prepare them for their futures, but truly reflect our Jaguar pride,” said LBJ Principal Joseph Welch. “Thank you to AISD leadership, the project team and the Campus Architectural Team for your support and collaboration throughout this process, and to our LBJ com-

munity for your unwavering dedication to our students.”

Construction on LBJ’s modernization began in June 2021 and was completed in December 2022, opening to students and faculty for the start of the spring semester. Designed by Perkins & Will and built by Vaughn Construction, the focus of the modernization was to expand career opportunities and renovate learning spaces to benefit all students.

The project team achieved this by constructing a central hub that unifies the academic wing with the rest of the building. The new two-story space includes a media center, student common spaces, recording studios, a computer lab, community room, and a medical professionals suite to support LBJ’s unique P-TECH program.

“Austin ISD is committed to making investments in students that better prepare them for college, career and beyond,” said Interim Superintendent Matias Segura. “I

want to thank Principal Welch for his leadership throughout this process. This is only the first phase of a strategic plan to modernize the full campus, and we look forward to continuing our work at LBJ through the 2022 Bond.”

The 2022 Bond, passed by voters in November, will fund Phase 2 of LBJ’s modernization project. That project is expected to begin in the fall and open to students in January 2028. As part of the project, LBJ will receive life safety and security improvements, heating and air conditioning improvements, new student and staff devices, upgrades to athletics spaces and more.

“This celebration is an opportunity for our district and LBJ community to recognize the hard work that made this project possible,” said Board of Trustees President Arati Singh. “I want to thank the Community and Bond Oversight Committee and the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee for their commitment to Austin schools.

Council Gives Direction To Switch To LowCarbon Concrete For New City Projects

In another step toward curbing the City of Austin’s carbon emissions, the City Council on Thursday took action to transition to low-carbon concrete on future City construction projects.

With the Council’s vote, Austin joins other cities and states across the country in the move toward the use of sustainable concrete and other building materials.

In January, New Jersey became the first state in the U.S. to adopt a lowcarbon concrete law, which carries incentives for manufacturers.

The federal Inflation Reduction Act includes $5.8 billion toward helping municipalities and the construction industry reduce concrete’s carbon footprint with more sustainable building materials.

“We know that concrete is one of the four highest contributing construction materials to greenhouse gas emissions,” said Council Member Leslie Pool, who sponsored the resolution.

“This action is one of many the Council has taken to be part of the solution toward reducing our carbon footprint.” Council Members Zohaib ‘’Zo’’ Qadri, Alison Alter, Vanessa Fuentes, and José Velásquez co-sponsored the resolution, which passed unanimously.

The approved measure directs the City Manager to develop a plan with a clear strategy for transitioning all future City contracts and projects to low-embodied carbon concrete.

Concrete producers working with the City will be required to submit

We are especially grateful to the voters for their overwhelming support of the 2017 and 2022 Bonds to allow us to continue making these critical investments in our students.” For more information on LBJ Early College High School’s modernization and the 2017 Bond Program, visit www.austinisd2017bond.org. What Is The Importance Of Mathematics In Our Daily Lives?

Mathematics is a powerful tool for global understanding and communication that organizes our lives and prevents chaos.

Mathematics helps us understand the world and provides an effective way of building mental discipline.

Math encourages logical reasoning, critical thinking, creative thinking, abstract or spatial thinking, problem-solving ability, and even effective communication skills.

What is the Importance of Mathematics in Our Daily Lives?

Mathematics: Introduction

Mathematics is a study of measurements, numbers, and space, which is one of the first sciences that humans work to develop because of its great importance and benefit.

The origin of the word “mathematics” is in Greek, which means tendencies to learn, and there are many branches of mathematics in science, that are related to numbers, including geometric forms, algebra, and others.

Mathematics plays a vital role in all aspects of life, whether in everyday matters such as time tracking, driving, cooking, or jobs such as accounting, finance, banking, engineering, and software.

These functions require a strong mathematical background, and scientific experiments by scientists need mathematical techniques. They are a language to describe scientists’ work and achievements.

As for mathematical inventions, they are numerous throughout the ages. Some of them were tangible, such as counting and measuring devices.

Some of them are not as tangible as methods of thinking and solving. The symbols that express numbers are also one of the most important mathematical inventions.

Mathematics helps in analytical thinking. While solving maths problems, data are collected, disassembled, and then interconnected

to solve them.

Mathematics helps to develop the ability to think.

It helps explain how things work. It helps to develop wisdom.

It increases the speed of intuition. It helps to make the child smarter. Money can be collected in mathematics when used as a profession.

It is important in a constantly evolving world.

It provides the child with an opportunity to get to the world.

Mathematics in Our Everyday Life Mathematics is the pillar of organized life for the present day. Without numbers and mathematical evidence, we cannot resolve any issues in our daily lives.

There are times, measurements, rates, wages, tenders, discounts, claims, supplies, jobs, stocks, contracts, taxes, money exchange, consumption, etc., and in the absence of these sports data, we have to face confusion and chaos.

Thus, mathematics has become the companion of man and his helper since the beginning of human existence on earth.

When man first wanted to answer questions such as “How many?” he invented math. Then algebra was invented to facilitate calculations, measurements, analysis, and engineering.

The science of trigonometry emerged when humans wanted to locate high mountains and stars.

Therefore, the knowledge of this article arose and developed when humans felt the need and math-

art, or specialty except mathematics was the key to it. The discipline and mastery of any other science or art are very much related to the size of mathematics.

The Most Important Uses of Mathematics

I think it is impossible to limit the uses of mathematics in everyday life so we will suffice with some of them:

Can you use any entertainment game without using numbers?

Mathematics also works to express the most accurate and objective things, and it helps us to manage time and plan things, economics and others.

The Importance of Mathematics to Society

Mathematics is an innate approach to research and analysis to reach a solution to mathematical problems.

ematics are necessary for the long planning of life and also the daily planning of any individual.

Although the importance of Mathematics can never be denied, a general fear of dealing with math exists in students across the world.

Having said that, most people, nowadays grapple with the calculations, as they find them too tough to handle.

To ease their life, there exists a comprehensive platform like Meracalculator, Khanacademy and mathisfun.

Moving from specific to general, it has a host of calculators dealing with physics, chemistry, general arithmetic’s, and many more.

So, students of various disciplines can use this website to solve their math’s-related problems without any hassle.

Mathematical rapprochement is necessary for any process, so if anyone wants to reach the height of his life, he should not fail to believe in the role of mathematics in his life, starting with the ordinary citizen. Every day has a daily interest in mathematics.

Mathematics is deeply related to the natural phenomenon, the way to solve many secrets of nature.

Mathematics is necessary to understand the other branches of knowledge.

All depend on mathematics in one way or another. There is no science,

Can you practice any sport without using numbers to learn if you are a winner or a loser?

Can you do your work without using numbers? If you are a teacher, collect your students’ marks or a doctor, estimate the amount of medicine for the patient or an engineer, estimate the amount of raw material to be added to complete the work, or even a leader in a battle.

Can you enter the store without using the numbers?

Can prayers be organized without the use of numbers, and what is left of the time for the next prayer?

And much more, whatever you try, you cannot get rid of the use of this important science.

The importance of mathematics is that it is a method based on research and analysis, to reach the desired results, and is used for calculation and presentation of data; not only the use of this science in a particular field but the use of all areas of life and different sciences.

The Importance of Mathematics to Individuals

Mathematics is one of the most important sciences that cannot be dispensed with, and the individual’s need for mathematics is no less than the need of society.

When studying an individual or a person of mathematics, this will develop his thinking and scientific tendencies.

Mathematics is a basic subject taught at all stages. It cannot be dispensed with. Some of the important roles of mathematics in society are:

The importance of mathematics in scientific studies: The conduct of studies and scientific research requires many skills in sports, which help in the development of studies and progress, for example, the study of physics or chemistry depends heavily on mathematics, including mathematical skills and mathematical matters, and lies the role of mathematics in the accuracy of conducting social research through the statistics branch.

The importance of mathematics in the development of social values: It helps mathematics in the development and refinement of personality, through organization and accuracy, research and investigation and study, and helps to detect.

The importance of mathematics in cultural development: Like other sciences, mathematics influences civilization’s development.

Cultural development depends on the achievements of scientists and innovators, especially athletes. No one neglects the role of Arab and Muslim scientists in the development of civilizations.

Austin Landmarks Texas Capitol Building

The Texas Capitol Building, located in downtown Austin, is an iconic landmark and an architectural masterpiece that is steeped in history and culture. It serves as the seat of government for the state of Texas and houses the offices and chambers of the governor, lieutenant governor, and the Texas Legislature. The building was completed in 1888 and has since become a symbol of Texan pride and heritage.

Designed by architect Elijah E. Myers, the Texas Capitol Building is an excellent example of Renaissance Revival architecture. The exterior of the building is made of pink granite, quarried from nearby Marble Falls, and the iconic dome that crowns the building stands 308 feet tall, making it taller than the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. The interior of the building is adorned with murals, paint-

ings, and sculptures that celebrate the history and culture of Texas.

One of the most striking features of the Texas Capitol Building is the central rotunda, which is located directly beneath the dome. The rotunda is 218 feet tall and 75 feet in diameter and is adorned with eight portraits of famous Texans, including Davy Crockett, Sam Houston, and Stephen F. Austin. The walls of the rotunda are covered with intricate murals that depict significant moments in Texas history, such as the Battle of San

Jacinto and the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

Another notable feature of the Texas Capitol Building is the Senate Chamber, which is lo- cated on the second floor of the building. The chamber is decorated with marble columns and oak paneling and features a large mural depicting the surrender of Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto. The chamber is also adorned with portraits of past Texas governors and senators.

The House of Representatives Chamber, located on the third floor of the building, is another stunning example of the building’s ar-

chitectural beauty. The chamber is decorated with oak paneling and features a large mural depicting the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence. The chamber is also adorned with portraits of past Texas governors and representatives.

In addition to its architectural beauty and historical significance, the Texas Capitol Building is also home to several important monuments and memorials. The most prominent of these is the Texas Veterans Monument, which honors all Texans who have served in the armed forces. The monument features a large bronze statue of a Texan soldier and is surrounded by several granite walls that bear the names of Texans who have served in various wars.

The Texas Capitol Building is also home to the Heroes of the Alamo monument, which honors the Texans who died defending the Alamo in 1836. The monument features a large bronze statue of a Texas Ranger and is surrounded by sev-

eral granite walls that bear the names of the defenders who died in the battle.

The Texas Capitol Building is not only a beautiful and historically significant landmark but also a working government building that is open to the public. Visitors can take a guided tour of the building, which includes visits to the Senate and House of Representatives chambers, the governor’s office, and the central rotunda. The building is also home to several museums and exhibits that showcase the history and culture of Texas.

In conclusion, the Texas Capitol Building is a magnificent example of Renaissance Revival architecture and an iconic symbol of Texan pride and heritage. Its stunning beauty, rich history, and cultural significance make it a must-see destination for visitors to Austin and a treasured landmark for all Texans.

A Look At The Many Types Of Vegetarians In India – Which One Are You?

(Continued From Page 08)

7. Pescetarian

Mr Venkata Rao

Mr. Yudhveer

Kind of like the lacto-ovo diet, the Pescetarian diet allows your guilty soul to eat fish, season, eggs, all vegetables and fruits (even the unnaturally fallen ones) grains and whatnot and still be called a vegetarian *cough*. The main thing of this diet is that it allows fishes and other seafood but no other meat.

8. Pollotarian

Keep everything we just said in our “Pescetarian” title and only replace “fish” and “seafood” with “chicken” and “poultry”.There you go, there you go, hey even we can do this, create new diet culture we meant, how about uhh, coco-tarian? For chocolates and stuff. Eh?

9. Pollo–Pescetarian

Chicken and fish, people! Chicken and fish. That’s all and oh yeah, anything in salad that you may want to add plus milk products.

10. Semi-vegetarian or Flexitarian

You love your veggies and include it heavily in your diet but occasionally eat meat, milk products and seafood. This qualifies you as a semi-vegetarian, like the majority of Indians who do not consume meat as frequently as the rest of the world.

Conclusion

We sure hope that in this list of weird human struggles, we may have given you some solace as to where your allegiance lie or at the very least we entertained you. (Courtesy: https://nostoryleftbehind.com/)

4 Simple Ways To Keep Allergy Season At Bay

With warmer outdoor temperatures, many homeowners suffer through longer allergy seasons. In fact, allergy days have increased by 20 days, according to a study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences.

Being aware of air quality indexes and limiting time outdoors can lessen exposure to airborne pollutants, but indoor air quality is also a concern. In a report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, levels of indoor pollutants can be 2-5 times higher than outdoor air.

People spend nearly two-thirds of their lives at home, according to Carrier, which developed its Healthy Homes Program to help homeowners create indoor environments that optimize health and wellness. Consider these ways you can combat pollutants where it matters most: your home’s indoor air quality.

Reduce Indoor Pollutants

Your home has multiple sources of indoor air pollutants. While avoiding these pollutants altogether is often the best solution, it’s not always possible. However, there are a few ways you can reduce exposure in your home: ban indoor smoking; turn on exhaust fans when cooking; minimize or remove “soft” pollutant gathering surfaces such as decorative pillows, stuffed animals and decorative throws; and regularly clean all heating and air conditioner filters as required or according to manufacturer specifications.

Add Air Purifiers to Your HVAC Unit

While air purifiers don’t treat allergies, they can help filter out allergens that can cause allergy symptoms. Homeowners might consider purifiers that are highly effective at capturing particulate.

This represents an increase from $119.5 billion in the previous year and $80.51 billion in 2020-21, indicating a growing economic relationship between the two countries. Increase in import is more than that of exports:

As per the data, exports from India to the United States increased by 2.81% to $78.31 billion in the fiscal year 2022-23, compared to $76.18 billion in 2021-22, while imports from the US surged by around 16% to $50.24 billion.

India-China Trade:

Meanwhile, India’s bilateral trade with China decreased by approximately 1.5%, reaching $113.83 billion in 2022-23, down from $115.42 billion in the previous year.

In the fiscal year 2022-23, India’s exports to China decreased by roughly 28% to $15.32 billion, while imports from China rose by 4.16% to $98.51 billion, leading to a wider trade gap of $83.2 billion compared to $72.91 billion in 2021-22.

India-US: Increasing Economic Ties:

However, experts believe that the trend of increasing bilateral trade with the US will continue as both countries are focused on strengthening their economic ties.

The export of goods like pharmaceuticals, engineering, and gems and jewellery is reportedly driving India’s shipments to the US.

In 2022-23, India had a trade surplus of $28 billion with the US, which is one of the few countries where India has a trade surplus.

Top Trading Partners of India:

According to the data, China was India’s top trading partner from 2013-14 to 2017-18 and again in 2020-21. Prior to China, the UAE was India’s largest trading partner.

As of 2022-23, the UAE, with $76.16 billion, was India’s third-largest trading partner, followed by Saudi Arabia ($52.72 billion) and Singapore ($35.55 billion). (Courtesy: https://currentaffairs.adda247.com/)

COVID-19 Vaccine Schedule Reduced To Single Dose

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced that anyone 5 years or older who is not yet vaccinated can receive one bivalent vaccine as their first dose. Until now people had to complete their primary series of vaccination with two shots in two separate visits to a clinic.

For young children, multiple doses continue to be recommended and will vary by age, vaccine, and which vaccines were previously received.

The CDC also announced that those who are 65 years of age and older and those who are immunocompromised may receive a second

bivalent COVID-19 vaccine if they have already received their first. Those who do not fall into these two categories are not currently eligible for a second bivalent vaccine.

Vaccines are available at Austin Public Health’s Shots for Tots and Big Shots clinics, as well as our community vaccine events. You can also find a list of vaccine providers in your area at Vaccines.gov (Vacunas.gov in Spanish).

States To Issue Over A Million H-1B Visas, Students Visas To Indians This Year

United States has shared that it would be working towards issuing over a million visas to Indians this year. Out of these visas, majority of H-1B Visas will be issued to Indian professionals followed by student visas and then tourist visas.

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu has shared that the Biden Administration would be focusing on approving the visas for Indians at a faster

Mosquitoes can carry diseases that can harm us. Among these are West Nile Virus, a disease which in some people (about 20%) can cause flu-like symptoms, skin rashes, and swollen lymph glands, and Zika Virus, which can cause birth defects in the babies of people who are pregnant.

Other diseases include encephalitis, which is inflammation of the brain, dengue fever, which causes rash, nausea and vomiting, and heartworms which are parasites rarely

found in humans but found more commonly in dogs.

APH’s environmental vector control page offers steps on how to stay safe from mosquitoes. People should protect themselves by emptying standing water outdoors and indoors where mosquitoes can breed. People should also wear insect repellant outside and wear protective clothes like long sleeves and pants which cover the body and protect from mosquito bites.

4 Simple Ways To Keep Allergy Season At Bay

(Continued On Page 24) For example, the Carrier Infinity air purifier is a whole-home heating and cooling system. It not only captures 95% of particles in micron size range 1.0-3.0, but also inactivates 99% of select airborne germs and viruses that flow through the HVAC system and become trapped in the MERV 15 filter. The purifier has also demonstrated effectiveness against the murine coronavirus – similar to the human novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19 – based on third-party testing, as well as the type of viruses that cause the common cold, streptococcus pyogenes and influenza.

Control Humidity

Many people know high humidity can cause discomfort in hot temperatures, but there are other potentially negative impacts. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, dust mites thrive in 70-80% humidity and temperatures between 75-85 F. Additionally, high humidity can provide an environment conducive to mold growth, which is why maintaining relative indoor humidity between 40-60% is recommended

to keep dust mites and mold at bay. To help control humidity, run the air conditioner when it’s hot and humid and consider using whole-home humidifiers and dehumidifiers that allow for specific settings for moisture control.

Consider Room Air Purifiers for Individual Spaces

Room air purifiers are portable and highly efficient solutions for smaller spaces such as nurseries, bedrooms, home gyms and added rooms. One example is the Carrier Smart Room Air Purifier with a built-in indoor air quality monitor that includes three levels of filtration, including an activated carbon filter to capture odors. The attached, color-coded air quality monitor measures and displays pollutant levels so homeowners can be informed and aware of the quality of their indoor air, giving them the ability to maintain next-level comfort while breathing cleaner air.

Movies Vs Web Series – Understanding The Key Differences

I’m sure every one of you must have watched a web series especially after the imposition of lockdown, there’s no way you haven’t watched one.

Hear us out. Remember watching those episodes of Sacred Games on Netflix, yes it’s a web series. Mirzapur, Pataal Lok, Kota Factory,

The Family Man, etc are among the list of popular web series in India. Apart from the web series on the OTT platforms, you must have also watched many web series on television without ever realizing that they come under the category of web series.

So, what exactly is the difference between a Web Series and regular Movies?

Differences between Web Series and Movies

With the advent of the digital revolution, OTT platforms have become the new medium of entertainment. You can stream web series online across different websites or applications from any digital device like mobile, laptop, or smart TV.

On the other hand, you can watch movies in theatres during their theoretical release, and later you can watch them on television or over the internet.

Veera’ track will be a highlight.

The response to the project has been incredible.

theatres.

The best part about web series is

faster and engaging screenplay as the story needs to be concluded in two to three hours.

After the phenomenal success of Ponniyin Selvan 1, the Cholas are back for the sequel. With stakes higher than ever, the team promises that there’s a lot in store with Ponniyin Selvan 2, set to be released on April 28.

Right now, Mani Ratnam’s cast of A-listers is travelling across the country to promote PS: 2. In Chennai, we catch up with them as they promote the conclusion to the epic saga.

jayam Ravi (Arunmozhi Varman

AKA Ponniyin Selvan):

PS 1 had a lot of character intro-

ductions and every 15 minutes, there was something new happening; that sort of screenplay was exciting. In PS 2, it’ll be like the climax from the get-go.

After PS 1 was released, based on the comments it received, improvements have been made to the sequel; this film will be an upgraded version for sure.

In PS 1, despite being a prince, my character would sport regular attire or that of a mahout as he is in hiding. The second part is a rebirth of sorts to him and his return to Thanjai to the brilliant ‘Veera Raja

We heard that elderly people with oxygen cylinders and walking sticks visited theatres after ages to watch PS.

Theatre owners called me and said that some audience members turned up with tiffin boxes, not knowing that it has been years since theatres allowed outside food!

We have even heard stories of theatre owners requesting repeat audiences to allow the ones who haven’t seen the film to watch it once. (Courtesy: https://www.thehindu.com/)

that we can watch them at any time and at any place as many times as we want.

On the other hand, you need to go to theatres to watch a movie and you can only watch it once per ticket.

Web series are released in the form of episodes and each episode has its own time duration and on the other hand, movies aren’t released in the form of episodes and most of the movies don’t exceed the time duration of 2-3 hours.

Web series don’t usually end completely in one season. They are scripted in such a way that it would take multiple seasons to end the series.

When it comes to movies, most of them conclude within the time duration of the film with a few exceptional films like Avengers Infinity War or Baahubali-The Beginning.

The screenplay of a web series needs to be engaging so that viewers don’t skip any part while watching the episode.

On the other hand, movies have a

Web series don’t usually have any songs except for promotions and on the other hand, most Indian movies have multiple songs and the songs are released prior to the film’s release.

Usually web series are rich in content and if the content is poor then people will usually skip it.

When it comes to movies, if there is a star cast then people will watch it anyway.

Web Series usually don’t have strict censorship rules however, films have to follow strict censorship rules.

Web Series are shot under lighting that makes the scenes look surreal whereas, movies have rich cinematic lighting.

Many people are of the misconception that web series will soon take away the popularity of movies but this isn’t true.

Movies were, are, and will always be popular. (Courtesy: https://celpox.com/)

He is a recipient of several awards including National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards, state Nandi Awards, and IIFA Utsavam Awards. In 2016, he was honored with the Padma Shri, India`s fourth highest civilian honor for his contributions towards the field of Art.

Early life

Rajamouli was born in Raichur, Karnataka, in a Telugu family. His father K V Vijayendra Prasad is a noted script writer for Baahubali : The Beginning and Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and mother is Raja Nandini. His brother Kanchi Rajamouli is also a writer. Music composer M.M.Keeravani and music director Kalyani Malik are his cousins. Rajamouli studied up to 4th class at Kovvur and then graduated with an engineering degree from C.R.R. College of Engineering, Eluru. He also worked in AVM recording theatre, post which he joined his father as an assistant for about six years, when he used to narrate his stories to several directors.

Personal life

Rajamouli is married to Rama, who is the sister of singer Keeravani`s wife, and the couple has two children - SS Karthikeya and SS Mayookha. Rama was a divorcee with a son, when Rajamouli proposed to her. The director`s wife is a costume designer for his films.

Television career

Rajamouli started his career as a director with Telugu soap operas on Eenadu Television, under the guidance of K. Raghavendra Rao.

Movie career

Rajamouli ventured into films with directing the Telugu film Student No.1 in 2001, starring Jr. NTR, Gajala and Rajeev Kanakala. This coming of age musical film was a big hit and was dubbed in Hindi as Aaj Ka Mujrim and was remade in Odia in 2008 as Mate Ta Love Helare. His second movie Simhadri, even though was released two years after his first, was a blockbuster hit. This action masala film once again starred Jr. NTR alongwith Ankitha and Bhoomika Chawla in lead roles, and Mukesh Rishi, Nassar and Rahul Dev in supporting roles. It was dubbed in Hindi and Malayalam languages, and was remade as Gajendra in Tamil and Kanteerava in Kannada.

The director`s third venture was the sports drama Sye with actors Nithin and Genelia D`Souza in the lead. Based on a rugby game, it was first the time Rajamouli collaborated with cinematographer K. K. Senthil Kumar. This movie too was dubbed in Hindi as Aar Paar - The Judgement Day, Malayalam as Challenge, and Tamil as Kalugu. His next was the 2005 action drama Chhatrapati with Prabhas in the lead role with Shriya Saran, Bhanupriya, and Pradeep Rawat in other pivotal roles, loosely based on the Hollywood film Scarface. The movie is about Shivaji (Prabhas) and his family who are up-

rooted from their community in Sri Lanka and they end up as bonded labourers in Vizag, and Shivaji fights to save the oppressed. This followed with Vikramarkudu in 2006, an actionmasala film, starring Ravi Teja, Anushka Shetty and Vineet Kumar in the lead. The movie received positive reviews and was screened at the International Film Festival of India in the mainstream section. This huge blockbuster hit was remade in Tamil as Siruthai, in Kannada as Veera Madakari, in Hindi as Rowdy Rathore, in Indian Bengali as Bikram Singha, and in Bangladeshi Bengali as Ulta Palta 69. The Hindi remake Rowdy Rathore , which was about to be directed by Rajamouli himself, starred Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, and was also a hit.

In the consecutive year, Rajamouli`s next direction was Yamadonga, a socio-fantasy film starring Mohan Babu, Jr. NTR, Priyamani and Mamta Mohandas. The movie received critical praises and was a box office success.

The romantic-action film Magadheera (2009) was the director`s next, which was one of the highestgrossing Telugu films and gained worldwide claim. The huge success of the film shot up the lead actors Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal to stardom. It is the first Telugu film to have a home media release in Blu-ray. It won the National Award for Best Choreography and Best Special Effects at the 57th National Film Awards, and was dubbed in Tamil as Maaveeran and Malayalam as Dheera: The Warrior. It was remade in Bengali as Yoddha - The Warrior. Based on reincarnation, the film won Rajamouli Filmfare Award for Best Director - Telugu - Magadheera (2009), Nandi Award for Best Director - Magadheera (2009) and CineMAA Award for Best Director - Magadheera (2009).

His next was a light-hearted comedy thriller film Maryada Ramanna in 2010, starring Sunil and Saloni Aswani. It was a remake of Kannada movie Balagalittu Olage Baa and garnered moderate to favorable reviews. The movie was remade in Hindi as Son of Sardar, in Tamil as Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham, starring Santhanam and Ashna Zaveri, and in Malayalam as Ivan Maryadaraman with Dileep. Subsequent to this, Rajamouli directed Eega in Telugu, a 2012 bilingual fantasy film, made simultaenously in Tamil titled Naan Ee. This movie was written by this father K. V. Vijayendra Prasad and starred Sudeep, Nani, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The director once again collaborated with K. K. Senthil Kumar for the cinematography of the film. The movie is based on a

fantasy bedtime story a father tells his daughter to put her to sleep. His movies Eega and Magadheera were inspired from Karan Arjun as he was deeply moved by the concept of reincarnation in the Salman-SRK starrer.

One of the biggest successes in Rajamouli`s career was the epic historical fiction film Baahubali: The Beginning produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devinen. This was the first of the two cinematic parts and was simultaneously made in Telugu and Tamil. The movie featured a star cast comprising Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah, and Anushka Shetty, in the lead roles, while Sathyaraj, Ramya Krishnan, Nassar, Adivi Sesh, Tanikella Bharani and Sudeep played supporting roles.
