Our Commitment To Our Industry And Community

Light & Wonder has a global responsibility to ensure our games, technology and programs align with a healthy world of play. To mitigate problem gaming and serve as an industry steward for the well-being of our Creators and players, we are proud to support a variety of industry and community organizations and initiatives that advocate for responsible play.

In our U.K. Gaming and iGaming divisions, Light & Wonder has played a key role in developing new game codes for safer play. In the first year of operation, we worked with the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) to establish an inaugural Code of Conduct for the design of online games. In accordance with the Code of Conduct, we’ve taken significant steps to strengthen player protections.

The code emphasizes the importance of player safety and addresses concerns related to problem gaming by incorporating safer gaming principles into the design of online games before they enter the market.

We adhere to regulatory frameworks in approximately 468 jurisdictions.

We’ve implemented measures such as reducing spin speeds, banning gaming features that have raised concerns such as autoplay, and improved access to safer gaming information. We have also incorporated reality checks to encourage breaks in play, further improving our support for customers at risk.

This code has since been adopted by all BGC members and industry partners.

To help players stay in control of their gaming activities, both on and offline, we’re expanding access to support and information and exploring ways to improve game labeling to increase players’ awareness and understanding of key terms and product types.

We are actively engaged in a variety of Responsible Gaming organizations and serve on leading boards and committees, including:

• International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG)

• American Gaming Association (AGA) Responsibility Committee; Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturing (AGEM) Responsible Gaming Committee

• National Council on Problem Gaming (NCPG) Responsibility Committee

• Industry Group for Responsible Gaming (IGRG)

• European Association for the Study of Gambling (EASG)

• Nevada Resort Association Corporate Social Responsibility Committee

To demonstrate Light & Wonder’s global commitment to Responsible Gaming, we sponsor observances and education campaigns such as the AGA’s Responsible Gaming Education Week (RGEW) and IGRG’s Responsible Gambling Week.

Responsible Gaming In Our Operations

Light & Wonder invests in programs and systems like Pre-Commitment, software that provides players with a tool to personalize a gaming budget and make informed decisions at the casino. Pre-Commitment delivers each enrolled patron an on-demand view of time played and spend broken down by day, week, month and year. Patrons also receive automatic notifications at the EGM when approaching their set budget. Pre-Commitment is installed in more than 60 casinos located in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the U.S.

RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND TREATMENT

We work with customers and regulators to foster Responsible Gaming programs such as the PlayMyWay program established with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission as their custom branded Responsible Gaming initiative using Light & Wonders Pre-Commitment software. We actively endorse and participate in Responsible Gaming initiatives led by the AGA and the U.K.’s IGRG. This includes supporting events such as RGEW and IGRG’s Responsible Gambling Week, both of which focus on raising awareness and starting conversations about what it means to play responsibly.

Responsible Gaming Education Week

As part of our commitment to Responsible Gaming, we place a strong emphasis on continuous Creator education. Light & Wonder provides Responsible Gaming information globally via a company-wide email and Yammer campaign and at various locations where Creators congregate. This material includes important details about the potential problems of at-risk gaming and provides resources for our Creators to seek help if they are struggling with a gaming problem.

Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) also ensures our Creators have convenient resources for seeking support for a number of addictions, including problem gaming. The EAP, promoted on the Light & Wonder intranet and through posters within offices, provides our Creators with direct access to confidential counselling sessions as well as contact information for the National Council on Problem Gambling.

As a leader in the creation of Responsible Gaming technology we recognize the importance of working with all gaming industry stakeholders. To that end, we contribute financial support to research, education, treatment and problem gaming awareness programs, as well as the Responsible Gaming efforts of the following organizations:

• AGEM (Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers)

• All India Gaming Federation

• American Gaming Association (AGA), U.S.

• Australasian Gaming Council, Australia

• Gambling Business Group

Signs To Watch Out For

In addition to implementing safer gaming measures in our products, we take precautions to protect our Creators from gaming-related harms. These measures include supporting awareness programs such as the BeGambleAware “Signs to Look Out For” campaign, that we promote during Responsible Gaming Education Week and UK’s Safer Gambling Week campaign which aims to educate individuals about the warning signs that may indicate they, or someone they love, is having difficulties with gaming. As part of our ongoing education and awareness efforts with our Creators, we emphasize the importance of recognizing the following warning signs:

• They’re spending more money and time on gaming than they can afford.

• They find it hard to manage or stop gaming.

• They have arguments with family or friends about money and gaming.

• They’ve lost interest in usual activities like spending time with friends or family.

• They chase their losses or use gaming to get out of financial trouble.

• They play until all their money is gone.

• They borrow money, sell possessions or avoid paying bills in order to pay for gaming.

• They gamble with larger amounts of money or for a longer amount of time.

As a socially responsible business, Light & Wonder is dedicated to helping our Creators, as much as our players, understand the risks associated with gaming to ensure it remains an enjoyable activity without adverse impacts on their lives.

• They’re always thinking or talking about gaming.

• They lie about gaming or hide it from other people.

• They neglect work, school, family, personal needs or household responsibilities.

• They feel anxious, worried, guilty, depressed or irritable.
