As the warmth of spring breathes new life into our community, we find ourselves surrounded by reasons to celebrate. We honor the incredible mothers among us with Mother’s day on the horizon, jump with joy for the long awaited completion of an exciting community project at Kilham Hall, and prepare for our local Summer spectacular—The Auckley Show. The show schedule can be found in this month’s issue.
Mother’s Day is a cherished occasion that allows us to recognise and appreciate the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures who shape our lives with their love, wisdom, and unwavering support. We are surrounded by remarkable women who not only nurture their families but also contribute to the betterment of our community. Whether through volunteer work, small business ownership, or simply offering a helping hand to friends and neighbours, their presence is invaluable. Let’s take this opportunity to celebrate them with heartfelt gestures, whether it be a handwritten note, a shared meal, or a quick phone call.
One of the most exciting developments for Branton this spring is the completion of our new Multi Use Games Area. The last phase of a project that has been years in the making, plans started for the recreational ground back in 2016 with the intention to provide a space for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to the dedication of local volunteers and hardworking organisers, this park is a credit to Branton.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mums, and here’s to a spring filled with joy, growth, and togetherness!
The April issue deadline for adverts and content is earlier than normal and will be Wednesday 12th March 2025 due to the holiday period. The Arrow will be delivered by 1st April.

BRANTON VILLAGE LITTER PICK
The Branton Litter Pick Group braved a bright cold Saturday morning in January to help clean up our village.
After Friday’s storm, coupled with refuse collection day, it couldn't have been better timed.
Over 30 bags were collected, the biggest collection in quite a while, however, the worst areas remain to be the exit and entry points where drivers and their passengers dispose of their rubbish.
Thank you to Cantley with Branton Parish Council for providing the equipment and organizing collection of the rubbish.
Huge thanks goes to the volunteers who turn up every time to help keep our village looking great.

Parking on Pavements- Please Report
Residents are reminded not to cause an obstruction by parking on pavements as this could be reported to the police. Residents are reminded that pedestrians with pushchairs and mobility scooters should be able to travel along the pavement unheeded. Consideration of people with visual disabilities should also be taken into account. If residents witness vehicles obstructing the pavements they should report it to South Yorkshire Police by calling 101 or online, using the SYP portal. Please do this at the time of witnessing the incident.
Community Speed Watch
South Yorkshire Police are asking for volunteers to form Community Speed Watch groups. These groups are formed of unpaid volunteers who will help to make their communities safer. BRANTON’S BEST KEPT SECRET
The development of Kilham Hall Recreation Ground in Branton is almost complete.
In 2016, Cantley with Branton Parish Council were able to access a grant funded by the 106 projects in relation to recent local residential developments within the village.
After many surveys on opinions and consultations with local residents, it was decided the funding, which could only be used to develop the recreation ground at Kilham Hall, would be used to provide additional facilities for the local community to use. A children's park was created with zip wire and climbing frame etc and an outside gym. In addition, a track was laid around the playing field and a butterfly trail and memorial garden introduced with a hand crafted memorial sculpture in memory of a young resident, Sianne.
The 3rd Phase was to build a Multi Use Games Area.
So, the long-awaited Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) is near to opening. Cantley with Branton Parish Council have confirmed that the snagging list is nearly completed, and should be ready to use by time of reading this article, all being well.

The Parish Council have said there will be no need for booking. The tennis courts will be set up between May and September for use, Basketball nets will be available all year round and Netball will be available upon request, by emailing the Clerk.
The contractors will return in the coming months to apply the coloured surfacing to the MUGA, but this will not affect its availability in the meantime.
This project from beginning to end has involved many people. City of Doncaster Council, our Ward Councillors, Cantley with Branton Parish Councilors (too many to mention but all heavily involved from start to finish), parish council clerks past and present who have pushed the project along, local residents of all ages and contractors. Congratulations to them all.
We got there is the end and wow, what a result. We are blessed to have this facility on our doorstep, please help to look after it but most of all, use it.

Being able to prepare a meal for yourself and others is one of life’s most rewarding skills. We are celebrating our Cubs who have learnt about safety and hygiene in the kitchen, different ways of preparing and cooking food, the major food groups and how they combine to form a healthy diet. Here they are putting theory into practice cooking a healthy 2 course meal!
“My child had the best time in her last session. Thank you so much for making it a memorable one she was full of it when she came home! She can cook for us this week now! Thanks to all the leaders for helping her fulfil her potential and encouraging her to try new things, and to all her fellow cubs for making her time so enjoyable and making memories! “

AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL
OPEN LETTER TO RESIDENTS
Dear Residents of the Parish,
The term of office of the current parish councillors will come to an end in May 2025. Elec ons are therefore scheduled to take place on 1 May 2025 to form a new council (subject to the number of applica ons received exceeding the nine places available). On this basis the council wanted to take an opportunity to provide informa on on the role and responsibili es of the parish council, in addi on to providing some informa on about Auckley facili es and the 2025/26 parish precept.
Role of the Parish Council
A parish council is a local authority that makes decisions on behalf of the people in the parish and has an overall responsibility for the well-being of its local community. It is the level of government which is closest to the community, with the district authority above it in the hierarchy. Its work falls into three main categories: represen ng the local community; delivering services to meet local needs; and striving to improve quality of life in the parish. In addi on to the upkeep of the facili es owned by the parish council (details below), the council also comments on planning applica ons and acts as a liaison with Doncaster Council, the police and other agencies to raise ma ers of concern that have been iden fied within the parish. Parish councillors are volunteers so no remunera on is paid, you just need to be willing to devote a small number of hours each month to a end mee ngs and support events.
If any resident is interested in becoming a parish councillor then please come along to the monthly mee ng held on the second Wednesday of the month commencing at 6.30 pm at Auckley Parish Centre to find out more. You don't need any professional or formal qualifica ons to be a councillor but the knowledge and experience you have picked up through your work and personal life could be useful. Communica on, listening skills and problem-solving skills will be an asset. Full training and guidance is available. Informa on on how to apply can be found on the City of Doncaster Council website.

Auckley Parish Council facili es
Under the ownership of the council there are two recrea on areas in Auckley: Riverside Park and Hayfield Park. Both of these are valuable open spaces for community usage including local football teams and have play equipment suitable for young children. These however, require considerable resources to maintain them and to ensure the safety of all users. The council is working to improve the facili es at Hayfield Park (following the site transfer from Peel Holdings) in conjunc on with Doncaster Council. Within the parish the council also owns and maintains a small area known as the Pinfold and a bus shelter within the village.
Residents benefit from a free annual village show (organised by an independent commi ee) supported by the council through its provision and maintenance of the site. Addi onally, a free senior ci zens ou ng is funded through a charity commi ee comprising parish councillors. The parish council pay for floral displays throughout the year, as well as Christmas ligh ng and a carol singing evening around a Christmas tree at the Eagle and Child. In addi on to the annual wreath laying on Remembrance Sunday, special occasion events are now being organised in line with na onal commemora ons.
The Precept
Each year the parish council determines a budget that is needed to fund the work of the parish council and the amount required is known as the ‘precept’ and is added to the council tax amount set by Doncaster Council and collected by them on the parish council’s behalf.
An ac on plan has been developed to provide for addi onal improvements to the sites and facili es within the parish and as a consequence, the level of the parish precept has been raised by 5.36% (for band D proper es). The amount from 1 April 2025 will therefore be £32.43 per annum. To put this in context, the na onal average precept is around £80 per Band D property. We an cipate the Auckley parish precept to be one of the lowest of neighbouring parishes in the Finningley Ward, as it has been for the last few years. The increase in cost from £30.78 per annum is necessary due to rising costs including the forthcoming elec ons.
General informa on about the parish council including minutes of mee ngs, newsle ers, policies and procedures can also be found on the parish council website www.auckleyparishcouncil.gov.uk
If you have any specific concerns or require further informa on please contact the Clerk to the Council at clerk@auckleyparishcouncil.gov.uk.
