Fire Solutions from Chubb Edwards… Safety and Certainty

Life safety is more than the installation of fire panels in electrical rooms. An effective fire and life safety solution provides early warning of potential danger and triggers response services to minimize risk to building occupants and assets. That requires easy-to-use systems that integrate advanced technologies in fire detection, signalling and alarm transmission.

Carmine Bozzo, Vice President of Fire Strategy at Chubb Edwards, notes that the latest generation of the company’s security and life safety solutions takes full advantage of advancements in system technology. “For example, our EST3X life safety platform leverages the latest in microprocessors and chipsets to yield smarter, faster, higher-capacity processing along with more efficient designs”. Among the many innovations engineered into the EST3X system is its exclusive Voltage Boost™ technology, which delivers a consistent 22.5 Vdc – even at low battery power. This means lighter gauge cable can be used for equivalent distances compared with conventional power supplies, or longer wire runs on the same gauge cable, a potentially significant cost saving. The EST3X system includes the exclusive SpeedTouch™ rotary control for scrolling through and quickly selecting events and options. Its extra-large backlit display reveals up to eight concurrent messages, and switch/LED strips provide ample space for meaningful custom labels. “Feedback has been very, very favourable” Bozzo pointed out. “In a crisis, the simplified, intuitive operation that comes with the rotary control interface of the EST3X platform is absolutely critical to emergency operators and fire department personnel.”

Innovation in detection technology has also contributed to the acceleration of the overall system performance. SIGA2 Signature Series detectors from Chubb Edwards

deploy advanced onboard multisensory capabilities in a single compact unit to identify threatening life safety conditions related to both fire and carbon monoxide. Monitored environments are continually sampled and analyzed right at each detector, distributing system intelligence for enhanced stability and efficiency in communicating alarm situations. SIGA2 detectors eliminate the need for separate detectors to sense fire and carbon monoxide, and results in potentially significant cost and maintenance savings for contractors and building owners.

The advanced product portfolio from Chubb Edwards spans a complete range of life safety equipment focused on fire detection systems, from conventional initiating and signaling products, to the most advanced addressable, microprocessor-based fire detection control equipment. The Chubb Edwards reputation for outstanding life safety solutions was built on innovative products, supplemented by a commitment to service excellence delivered through a comprehensive branch network that extends from coast to coast.

Streamlining the Dispatch Process

OPEN ACCESS™ was developed by Fire Monitoring Technologies International Inc. (FMTI) with the idea that fire cannot be mitigated without a call, and any delay in the notification of fire departments in the event of a fire can potentially be costly in terms of damage, injury and potentially death. Understanding the diffi culties faced by both ULC moni toring companies and fire depart ment dispatch centres, FMTI looked to develop a technology to streamline the dispatching pro cess, while adhering to all appli cable codes and standards.

OPEN ACCESS™ does just this.

In use since the year 2000, OPEN ACCESS™ is a proven, revolutionary technology which electronically and automati cally retransmits fire alarm sig nals from ULC-listed Signals Receiving Centres to participating fire department dispatch centres.

of the electronic signal (versus a report of the alarm).

Pre-verified data is delivered to the participating fire departments directly into their Computer Aided Dispatch system, ensuring 100% accuracy with every alarm, and the process happens automatically – no Signals Receiving Centre operator intervention is required. Only alarms which are valid (i.e.: systems which are not on test) are retransmitted to the fire department, so there is no possibility of increase false alarms with use of the product. Available in communities throughout Ontario, OPEN ACCESS™ has been independently proven to reduce fire department response times by 114.7 seconds, which is a significant decrease when you consider that fire doubles in size every minute after the first few minutes. It also significantly reduces the possibility for error in the dispatching process, as all data is pre-verified prior to going “online” with the participating fire department.

OPEN ACCESS™ doesn’t eliminate the need for a ULC-listed Signal Receiving Centre, as the Signal Receiving Centre is still responsible for reporting all other alarms as required, and does provide a back-up call to confirm receipt

OPEN ACCESS™ partners with major ULC-listed monitoring stations, and is fully compliant with CAN/ ULC-S561, the standard for fire alarm monitoring in Canada. As all alarm retransmission to participating fire departments happens within the Signals Receiving Centre, OPEN ACCESS™ service requires no special hardware in the customer’s premise. The equipment you are used to working with is fully compatible, and there is no capital investment required by the customer in order to activate the service. OPEN ACCESS™ is one more way for security integrators who provide ULC fire alarm monitoring to increase their RMR without asking their customers for any capital expenditures, all while providing an improved ULC-approved fire alarm monitoring service.

For more information on the OPEN ACCESS™ service, the many communities it is available in, or any other question regarding OPEN ACCESS™, contact your ULC monitoring provider, or contact OPEN ACCESS™ directly at 877-6848970 or info@openaccess.ca. OPEN ACCESSTM is a revolutionary technology that works with ULC-Listed monitoring companies, and approved data providers to re-transmit incident information to the appropriate partner PSAPs to aid and expedite the dispatch of emergency response providers.

Example data types include:

• Fire Alarm Signals

• Crash Notifications

• Hazardous Materials Information

• Emergency Weather Notifications

The use of OPEN ACCESSTM technology has been independently proven to save up to two minutes in fire department response time.
