The Canadian Rental Mart is Canada’s trade expo for the equipment and event rental industry. Taking place every two years, the Rental Mart brings rental store owners, managers and workers together to kick tires, learn something new and catch up with old friends. The Rental Mart is a presentation of Canadian Rental Service magazine. Joining us this year is sister publication Turf & Rec which is putting on the concurrent Turf & Rec Show which will showcase the latest in turf and grounds maintenance equipment to landscapers and other industry professionals.

Thank you for attending the Turf & Rec Show as part of the Rental Mart. This is Turf & Rec’s first venture into producing a live industry show. Please refer to this guide for the Rental Mart and Turf & Rec Show’s daily agenda and to navigate your way around the trade show floor using the handy floor map.

In addition to the trade show, we are presenting three education sessions aimed at landscapers and other turfgrass professionals.

Turf & Rec has served Canada’s lawncare and landscaping industry with critical B2B knowledge for over 35 years. Now it’s time to go live, with our first-ever trade event. The Turf & Rec Show will showcase the latest in turf and grounds maintenance equipment to landscapers and other industry professionals, and bring you upto-date with exclusive, fun and engaging industry discussions.

These sessions will cover such topics as opportunities for women in the industry, advances in battery technology and research updates from Olds College. The latter session will have continuing education credit points available for attendees.

SHOW SCHEDULE - DAY 1

The Rental Mart + Turf & Rec Show will feature live speakers who will address topics of industry relevance. The sessions will give attendees a chance to learn about new technology and research updates as well as advances being made in creating more inclusive workforces.

Moderator: Morgan Creighton

Join moderator Morgan Creighton, founder of a mentorship program aimed at helping women ease their way into the professional turfgrass industry, as she leads a panel of working women in a discussion of opportunities and challenges women face in the industry.

Morgan Creighton is a former assistant superintendent at Woodside Golf Course in Airdrie, Alta. and founder of a program that mentors women entering the industry. She has helped several women over the years to become more comfortable about starting their careers in a male-dominated industry.

3:00PM: CANADIAN RENTAL MARKET ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Presenter: Canadian Rental Association

Shane Norton is a senior principal in the economics consulting team of the Data and Insights division of S&P Global Market Intelligence. He is responsible for managing consulting engagements across a variety of industries, utilizing economic impact analysis, econometric forecasting, market sizing, and market analysis. He has extensive experience within the industrial manufacturing space and has been working with equipment rental companies for over a decade. He has coordinated the market sizing and forecasting work for the Canadian Rental Association for the past four years. He has been with S&P Global and preceding companies since 2001. Norton holds a bachelor of science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

ADVANCES IN TURF RESEARCH

Presenter: Jason Pick

Explore the latest breakthroughs in turfgrass science with our in-depth presentation on recent advancements from the Alberta Turfgrass Research Foundation. This session is designed for turf care professionals seeking to stay at the forefront of industry knowledge. Topics include optimizing fertility, effective herbicide uses, water conservation strategies, selected turf species and turf disease identification. Qualifies for a Continuing Education Credit for Turf Care Professionals.

Jason is full time faculty at Olds College in southern Alberta, specializing in turfgrass science, resort management, and applied research. A former golf course superintendent, his pre & post graduate training spans eight golf courses across Canada and the Caribbean. Routinely lecturing at industry conferences, he shares pesticide certification training, the latest in turf research, agronomic advances and business strategies.

HOW WE GOT HERE PANEL

Presenter: American Rental Association

The American Rental Association has assembled a powerful group of Canadian rental leaders to share their insights on the state of our industry and their secrets to success over the decades. There’s going to be an even 100 years of combined expertise up on stage. Let’s compare notes and swap some stories.

Moderator: Dan Sharp, ARA Senior Director of Communications

Dan Sharp is a Marketing and Advertising professional who has held multiple positions in MarCom over his six years with ARA. With a career focus on brand strategy and creative direction, Dan’s expertise lies in driving marketing initiatives including work on multiple consumer and workforce development campaigns that span multiple media tactics to raise rental awareness across North America.

Panelist: Jim Clipperton, founder, Nor-Val Rentals

Jim Clipperton has been in the rental business for 36 years. He started Nor-Val Rentals in Vernon, B.C., in 1994 with his parents, Paul and Shirley Miron. In 2023, Jim sold his rental division to Sunbelt Rentals, now comprising six locations and 119 team members. Jim Clipperton has been a member of the ARA since 1996 and part of the ARA Trade Show SIG group for Florida. He served terms as president of the BC Rental association numerous times.

Panelist: Ed Dwyer, president and founder of C&T Rentals

Ed Dwyer, with an impressive 44 years of experience in the equipment rental industry, is the president and founder of C&T Rentals in Winnipeg. Ed started working in the rental industry in 1979 and started his own company in 1987. His leadership and vision have been pivotal in the company’s expansion, including the opening of six locations to house specialized divisions such as heating and event rentals. C&T Rentals was recognized as Manitoba’s Family Enterprise of the Year in 2015. Ed is a past president of the Canadian Rental Association.

Panelist: Rob Wilson, COO, Stephenson’s Rental Services

Rob Wilson is the COO of Stephenson’s Rental Services, headquartered in Mississauga, Ont. He has been with Stephenson’s for over 20 years and has held roles in maintenance, quality, logistics, sales, and fleet management. Stephenson’s has 26 locations and 750 employees across Quebec, Ontario and Alberta serving general contractors, residential builders and targeted subtrades.
