Spring Clean your legal protection You know you should have a Will in place to look out for those you love when you die. But did you know it can be even more important to have Powers of Attorney in place - to make sure your wishes are followed if you were to become seriously ill or injured. It is time to Spring Clean the legal protection you have in place. Chipping Sodbury specialists, Simpson Solicitors, offer Boundary readers a free (no obligation) legal review and advice meeting. A Power of Attorney is the only way you can choose who you trust to speak up for you and make decisions on your behalf, if you lost capacity and were too unwell to do so yourself. Did you know, even if you are married, with no Power of Attorney in place, your other half can be left powerless to help you. But the Power has to be put in place now – whilst you are well. A Health Power means you appoint someone to give instructions and select options on your treatment to doctors and other health professionals. A recent client example was a daughter using the Power to insist her elderly mother was transferred from an all male ward in hospital - to give her dignity. They are also used to make sure that you get the end of life treatment that you’d want. A modern update on the old “do not resuscitate” instructions. We see our role as going beyond form filling and helping you with the guidance you want to leave to those you trust. A Property and Finance Power means that your bank accounts and savings are not frozen. Instead they can be accessed by the person you appoint to pay for the treatment and care you need. Practically it often means bills can be paid without family members having to get into debt supporting you. It also means they can sign for you, so that financial and property transactions can go ahead. Simpson’s Complete Service includes advising you on how best to set up the Powers to suit your family situation and needs. The practicalities of getting it right, can be a legal minefield. They guide you through it. The Complete Service also covers acting as Certificate Provider and dealing with the court registration process – so they are approved and ready to use when needed. Simpsons go even further as their one off charge covers future support to those you trust - with help in activating the Powers and providing Certified Copies that will be needed. For Boundary readers Simpsons are offering 20% off the Complete Service price, down to £329 +VAT per Power instructed by 31st May 2018. Just call 01454 322 722. If getting to the office is difficult their friendly lawyers can see you at home at no extra cost.
