Evolution Si le cahier des charges initial affichait des contours extrêmement précis, les différents acteurs du chantier ne se sont évidemment pas interdit de le faire évoluer au fil de la réalisation de l’opération. Il en est ainsi, sous l’impulsion de l’architecte italien Renzo Piano, des arches sises sous le boulevard Louis II. En effet, il est rapidement apparu que ces arches en pierre du plus bel effet agrémentent sans aucun doute le quartier du Petit Portier d’un charme incomparable. Si, dès l’origine du projet, il était convenu de les conserver, l’idée est progressivement née de laisser entrer l’eau sous ces arches, comme il était déjà le cas dans les années 50. À la différence des premières études où l’ambiance sous ces arches était minérale, cette évolution a permis de mêler les caractères traditionnels et modernes du lieu. L’on imagine alors aisément le visiteur porter son regard au premier plan sur les petits bateaux traditionnels du port, et, au second sur ces espaces maritimes préservés que surplombent des arches de pierre en forme de clin d’œil historique…
Evolution While the initial specifications showed extremely precise plans, the site’s various stakeholders obviously did not refrain from improving them as the operation evolved. This is the case with the arches located under the Boulevard Louis II, thanks to the ideas of the Italian architect Renzo Piano. It was clear that these stunning stone arches embellish Le Petit Portier district with incomparable charm. If, from the start of the project, it was agreed to keep them, the idea gradually arose to let water enter under the arches, as had been the case in the 1950s. Unlike the first studies where the atmosphere under these arches was mineral, this evolution blended traditional and modern characteristics. It is easy to imagine visitors taking in the foreground watching the small traditional boats of the port, and, in the background, the preserved maritime spaces with their overhanging stone arches in the form of a historical wink… Hub To access Le Petit Portier from the entrance located at the roundabout, visitors will reach the Place Princesse Gabriella. They will then follow Le Périscope, whose architectural signature, as with neighbouring buildings, derives from the Italian architect Renzo Piano. This small building with its elevators and stairs leads down to the level of Le Petit Portier. Near the arches, the development of which has made it possible to preserve the pleasing aesthetics, a footbridge and another mechanical link will provide access to the entrance to the Fairmont hotel and an opening to the famous Monte-Carlo district. From the causeway opposite the port it will be possible to reach the start of the Promenade Littorale and enjoy a pleasant walk towards the Larvotto district.
Hub Pour accéder au Petit Portier, le visiteur gagnera, depuis l’entrée située au niveau du rond-point, la Place Princesse Gabriella. Il empruntera alors le Périscope dont la signature architecturale revient, comme pour les bâtiments voisins, à l’architecte italien Renzo Piano. Ce petit édifice comprenant ascenseurs et escaliers permettra alors de descendre au niveau du Petit Portier. Près des arches, dont l’évolution du projet a permis de conserver l’esthétique apparence, une passerelle, puis une autre liaison mécanique offriront une jonction directe avec l’entrée de l’hôtel Fairmont et une ouverture vers le célèbre quartier de Monte-Carlo. Sur la digue opposée du port, il sera possible de gagner le départ de la Promenade Littorale et d’entamer une agréable marche vers le quartier du Larvotto.
