Allemansrätten: The freedom to roam in Sweden means that you have the right to walk, cycle, ride, ski and camp on any land with the exception of private gardens, near a dwelling house or land under cultivation.

Outdoor life is an integral part of Swedish culture, and by extension it is in the foundation of our brand Fjällräven.

Fjällräven is quintessentially Swedish, an iconic touchstone that transcends generations. The brand embodies Sweden's deep-rooted connection to nature, sustainability, and minimalist design. It's not just gear; it's a cultural rite of passage.

BrandValues

Let’s put it simply: We love nature. We want it to be there - open and whole for all generations to come. Big and vast to get lost in, wild and untamed to be captured by, grand and beautiful to fill you with joy. This is why we exist as a company. For us, nature is everything, and without it, we would be nothing. We want our products to make people feel at home in nature. We want them to help more people find their way into woods, up mountains and down rivers. And we want them to last for at least the next generation.

For us, the outdoor experience has never been a race to victory. For us, it is an ongoing journey to create equipment and memories that last for generations to come.

FjällrävenClassic

The idea came directly from Fjällräven founder Åke Nordin at the start of the 21st century. He had always been inspired by the dramatic landscapes and breathtaking scenery of the Swedish mountains. And he wanted others to explore the same landscapes and, more importantly, the same feeling of freedom from spending a few days trekking on the trail. His solution was Fjällräven Classic.

At that point, Fjällräven wasn’t the global company it is today. So the focus was on getting more Swedes out into the Swedish mountains. He chose a legendary long-distance path, Kungsleden (The King’s Trail), and by taking care of all the logistics like food, transport and safety, Fjällräven made it accessible to the masses. Well, masses is perhaps an exaggeration in the beginning.

It is a journey like no other. Even though you go at your own pace, you meet other trekkers who, despite different levels of experience, all share the same love for nature; the same willingness to spend time in the outdoors.

TheGear

A huge part of the Fjällräven Classic is that you carry your own gear on your back and you have everything you need to complete the trek with you. Apart from a food replenishment halfway through the trek, everything you have is what you brought on day 1.

This is why your gear is extremely important, trekking is so much better when your backpack fits like it should, your not alternating between shivering and sweating and you get a good night’s sleep in your tent.

A good outfit is made with the right layers once you master the technique you are ready for any trek, whether its one-day or multi-day.

Thematerials

Waterproof/Eco-Shell/Hydratic:

Lightweight, unrestrictive, but tough, breathable, water/wind resistantall without unnecessarily harming nature. PFC(Perfluorocarbons)

impregnation is the go to across the industry - we've been PFC-Free since 2002. How does it work: Our PFC-Free durable water repellency (DWR) treatment on the outer layer and the hydrophilic membrane underneath, that ensures sweat escapes but water from the outside doesn’t get in.

In our range we have multiple families that include waterproof pieces, including Bergtagen, Keb, and High Coast. This allows for different levels of technical features on the garments, and therefore different price points. The Bergtagen range is our premium level, followed by the Keb Eco-Shell and then the High Coast Hydratic range.

Thematerials

G-1000 Down

G-1000 is our cornerstone material. We use it in everything from backpacks to jackets and trousers. It’s a densely woven fabric made from 65% polyester and 35% cotton and, by using Greenland Wax, it’s adaptable to a whole variety of different climactic conditions. So with the right care, it’ll last for ages and join you on all kinds of adventures.

When it comes to functional materials, nature usually knows best. And down is no exception. It keeps birds warm in all kinds of cold, from the extreme to the mild. And it does so without adding bulk or weight. Our down journey started in 1974 when Fjällräven founder, Åke Nordin, promised to make a jacket that provided welcoming warmth through the coldest of Swedish winters. The jacket was the Expedition Down Jacket and it was filled with 600 CUIN of quality down.

The Fjällräven Down Promise is now recognised as one of the best in the outdoor industry.

Thematerials Wool

We love wool here at Fjällräven. It’s arguably one of nature’s most functional materials. And you ’ re most likely aware of its ability to keep you warm by trapping air between its fibres. But did you know that, strictly speaking, wool isn’t an insulator? It’s a heat regulator. This is because it can help you keep your cool as well as keep you warm and cosy.

Wool wicks away moisture from your body. And when it does so, it takes odours with it. So even though you may spend all day trekking and working up a sweat, your wool clothing will hardly smell at all.

Finally, because of the structure of the fibres, wool keeps you warm even when it’s damp. And depending on the size of the fibres, wool clothing can be really thin, not to mention durable and comfortable.

We use lots of different types of wool, including spill or surplus wool from our suppliers in Italy and wool sourced from sheep in Sweden. This is all to reduce our environmental impact.

TheEquipment

Trekking Packs

The functionality of your trekking pack is super important, a well-fitted pack will make all the difference on your trek.

Fjällräven excels at making durable, functional trekking packs and our range is extensive. Various styles were used on the Fjällräven Classic Sweden, including Kajka, Abisko and Keb. The main priority was having enough room to bring what you needed and making sure the pack was fitted to your body correctly.

80% off the weight of your pack should be carried by your hips, so the hip belt is very important. The more technical of the packs have adjustable backs and all have adjustable shoulder straps and chest straps.

TheEquipment

Tents

Another essential item for a multi-day trek is a tent, Fjällräven have two types of tents, tunnel and dome. Each have their own best use cases and in this case we chose to take a tunnel tent, the Abisko Lite 2.

Tunnel tents must be secured to the ground. They are a favourite in Scandinavia as they are particularly well-suited to more challenging weather conditions. Not only are they extremely wind resistant, but they have a spacious vestibule with which to divide the tent. You can use one area for sleeping, and the other for storing equipment and preparing food in poor weather.

Fjällräven tents have a specific anatomy, inner tents and outer tents. The outer tent, also called a “flysheet”, is meant to protect the inner tent (and you) from the elements. Fjällräven outer tents are made of a Ripstop nylon, which is coated on each side with four layers of silicon for durability and longevity. Our aim is unambiguous: make tents that last a lifetime.
