Greetings Lakeside, Once again I am writing this article, looking outside and experiencing temperatures that are 70+ degrees here at the end of February. I love these warm temperatures, but worry about what they mean for our environment. I continue to pray that God, with the help of we humans will take care of our planet earth. You have done it again, Lakeside. We collected enough Valentine’s money to provide 115 warm blankets to World Service for people around the world. That is fantastic. We have also collected 235 Warm Fuzzies for EMSA to give to children and vulnerable adults when they have a health problem and the need for the ambulance. This ministry helps to calm the children so the crew can do their assessment and provide care. Once again, we surpassed our goal of 200. Last Sunday, Feb 26, we began our Lenten Bible study after morning worship. We are using Adam Hamilton’s study “24 Hours that Changed the World.” No single event in human history has received more attention than the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. This study will help you experience and understand the significance of Jesus’ suffering and death. There are 21 people signed up for the study, but there is always room for more. We will not meet on March 12, and we will extend our time to do two studies on March 26. The study will conclude on Palm Sunday. As we enter March, we begin immediately on March 1 with our Ash Wednesday Service at 6:30 PM. On Ash Wednesday we emphasize two themes: our sinfulness and our mortality. The service focuses on both themes, helping us to realize that both have been triumphed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The use of ashes signifies purification and sorrow for sins. When I put them on your forehead (or hand) in the shape of a cross, it points us toward Good Friday and Easter and the act of redemption by our Savior. Then we will move through Lent to prepare ourselves for Holy Week and Easter. There are three pillars for Lent: Almsgiving (sharing resources and talent), Fasting (giving up something) and Prayer (for self and others). Some people choose fasting and give up something they like during Lent. However, it is important to consider all three pillars throughout Lent. Also during March, we will be collecting used clothing and small kitchen items for Skyline Ministries. This would be a form of Almsgiving. May God bless you throughout Lent. Pastor Randy

The Easter Egg Hunt is April 15th at 10:30 am in Tinley Park. The age groups for hunting will be ages 3 & under, 4-7 and 8-12. The Easter Bunny will be there and available to take pictures.

Crafty Cuties

We are collecting candy for the Easter Egg Hunt. Starburst, Tootsie Rolls and fun size Skittles work great in the small eggs. Avoid coins (choking hazard) and chocolate, as chocolate melts quickly when it heats up in the sun inside the eggs.

Crafty Cuties invites you to unleash your creativity on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. Lakeside offers a large room with tables to spread out to knit, crochet, sew, bead jewelry, scrapbook, color, update your photo albums, etc. You may participate in ongoing projects (making stocking caps for newborns and infant quilts) or work on an unfinished item you never seem to be able to complete. Reminiscent of an old-fashioned quilting bee, you will be able to share in laughter and good fellowship while keeping your hands busy! For more information, please contact Audrey McGaugh at (405) 751-4145 home, 323-9268 cell or ammcgaugh@hotmail.com. Hope to see you there! Free up some of your storage space! Donations of yarn, thread and fabric greatly appreciated. A portable sewing machine would also be put to good use!
