In the United States this year, 700,000 people and one out of every four post-menopausal women will suffer from a painful bone injury called a vertebral compression fracture. This common type of bone injury results in the collapse of a vertebra, a type of bone that makes up the spine. Although there is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive therapy available, two-thirds of these fractures fail to be diagnosed. This is unfortunate, as missing this condition can result in under-treated pain, limitations on daily activities, breathing problems, and dependence on dangerous pain

Kyphoplasty Treatment For Spinal Compression Fractures

medications.

Bone density in both women and men starts to decrease after age forty, but the loss of density greatly accelerates after women enter menopause and can progress to osteoporosis, a disease characterized by very low bone density. Although most compression fractures occur in patients with osteoporosis, one-third of vertebral compression fractures occur in patients without osteoporosis.

If a fracture occurs suddenly, patients can experience sudden severe

back pain that often wraps around the sides and is felt in the chest. Because of this, it is sometimes confused with diseases of the heart or the lungs. The pain is often worse when standing, sitting-up, or walking around. If very severe, the patient can have trouble breathing.

Patients who have symptoms of a fracture should see their doctor for evaluation. After an examination that suggests a vertebral compression fracture, they will often be sent for an MRI. This imaging shows the level of the fracture and also reveals whether it

Do Something About Your PAIN

is old or new. Some doctors treat compression fractures with pain medicine, physical therapy, and bracing. However, many cases continue to cause severe pain and long-lasting health effects unless treated more definitively. Unfortunately, many patients and physicians are not aware that there is a minimally invasive procedure called kyphoplasty that can quickly, safely, and effectively treat a patient’s pain without the long-term use of opioids and other pain medications.

If an acute compression fracture is present on an MRI, a patient should be referred to a pain management physician or another physician who performs kyphoplasty. This procedure can often be performed in a doctor’s office, preventing the need for an overnight stay in a hospital. On the day of the procedure, the patient is given a medicine to relax and then is asked to lie on their belly. An x-ray machine is then used to locate the fractured bone and a narrow tube is placed into it through a very small opening in the skin. A small balloon is inflated within the bone to create a small space and the fracture is then filled with bone cement. The entire procedure can take as little as 45 minutes. Many patients feel immediate pain relief and are able to return to their daily lives the day after the procedure. However, some patients may take a week or longer to feel better.

Kyphoplasty most successfully reduces a patient’s pain within two weeks following a fracture. Unfortunately, if the window of opportunity is passed, the pain can become more challenging to treat and further complications can occur.

If you think you or someone you care about is experiencing symptoms of a vertebral compression fracture, be reassured that there are safe, effective, and minimally invasive therapies available. Schedule an initial pain evaluation at Georgetown Pain Management to determine if you’re eligible for kyphoplasty or other pain therapies. Most insurances are accepted and new patient evaluations are currently being scheduled. As awareness of this condition increases and more patients are offered kyphoplasty as a minimally-invasive therapy, it is hopeful that fewer patients will have to live with the severe pain that results from vertebral compression fractures and can return to their full lives more quickly and comfortably than before.

Retina Screening: Do You Need To Have One Done?

Many of us have heard the saying “your eyes are the window to your health”. This is true because many health conditions are first detected in the Retina (the retina captures the light that enters your eye and helps translate it into the images you see).

It is well known that diabetes and high blood pressure can damage blood vessels, which then causes damage to your retina. Inflammatory conditions can also cause damage. Eye injuries can damage your retina and the macula.

Why Is Retinal Screening Important and Is It Worth It?

Signs of high blood pressure or hypertension, diabetes, brain tumors, and some forms of cancer are first evident in the retina. This is well before other signs appear throughout the body. Detecting such health issues early is vital in treating them. Finding retinal disorders as early as possible is critical to potentially preventing serious disease progression and even vision loss. In addition

to helping detect diseases early, retinal images provide a permanent and historical record of changes in your eye. With today’s electronic medical records applications, these images can be compared side-by-side, year after year, to discover even subtle changes and help monitor your health.

Is Retinal Screening Better Than Dilation?

While dilation still constitutes a complete eye exam, retinal imaging for screening or to follow diseases, provides a complete picture of not only your eye health but also your health in general.

How Often Should You Have a Dilated Retinal Exam?

Retina exams are part of any comprehensive eye exam no matter what your age. But unless you need glasses or have other eye conditions, you may not be seeing an eye doctor regularly. If you don’t, you should start getting eye exams at least every 2-4 years. While screening retinal imaging is not covered by insurance, it will be covered if following a known retinal disease.

Meet Your Local Health Professionals

Your Health Magazine is on a mission. There are far too many people, insured or not, who do not go to the doctor when they should, and in millions of cases, don’t know who they should go to, or why.

People are encouraged to buy a new house, car, cell phone or big screen TV, and those companies make themselves very visible and their products easily attainable.

Information about, and from, local healthcare providers is not easy to find, and many times those services are difficult to access.

Information and encouragement always lowers fear and trepidation about anything, and this is especially true in healthcare. While general information is available on web-sites, specific information from local providers is almost impossible for people to find. This is one of the key reasons chronic and episodic conditions are not cared for. It is our mission to:

Make A Difference By Empowering and Encouraging People To Live Healthier By Going To the Doctor When They Should.

There is a lot of evidence that the health professionals who participate in Your Health Magazine have helped many people over the years. We at Your Health Magazine salute you!

Comprehensive Dental Care: Key Takeaways From the Past Year

Dental health is an integral part of overall well-being, impacting not only our smiles but also our general health and quality of life. Over the past year, several key topics have emerged as essential areas of focus in dental care. From orthodontic treatment to the surprising links between oral health and other bodily systems, these insights emphasize the importance of comprehensive dental care.

One significant area of emphasis has been the impact of airway and breathing on growth, development, and overall quality of life. Addressing airway issues early can prevent complications in jaw development and improve sleep quality. This concept extends to orthodontic care, where non-extraction treatments can align teeth without the need for invasive procedures. By focusing on maintaining natural dental structures, these treatments aim to optimize both function and appearance.

Another area of focus has been the importance of early intervention in orthodontics, particularly for children aged 8-10. Early treatment can correct developmental issues before they become more severe, setting the stage for healthier adult teeth and preventing more extensive interventions later in life.

Oral health has also been closely linked to systemic health, with studies highlighting connections between oral health, gut health, and brain function. Maintaining good dental hygiene can positively influence gut microbiota and cognitive health, underscoring the interconnectedness of bodily systems.

For those who experience dental anxiety, strategies such as relaxation

techniques and compassionate communication can make dental visits more manageable. Education and reassurance play vital roles in helping patients overcome fears and maintain regular appointments, which are crucial for long-term dental health.

The role of clinical assistants in ensuring high-quality patient care was also discussed, highlighting their critical role in supporting both

dentists and patients during various procedures. Their expertise contributes to smoother procedures and better patient outcomes.

Lastly, as individuals age, maintaining oral health becomes increasingly important in preserving quality of life. Comprehensive dental care for older adults includes not only aesthetic considerations but also functional treatments to ensure proper

chewing and overall comfort.

Let’s Smile Dental offers comprehensive dental care under one roof, providing patients with convenience and continuity of care, ensuring that all aspects of dental health are addressed in a cohesive manner. Advancements in skincare technology have revolutionized the way we address common skin concerns, from sun damage and acne scars to unwanted hair. Here’s a closer look at four of the most effective skin rejuvenation technologies: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing, Laser Hair Removal, and Pixel Fractional Resurfacing.

1. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial

IPL photofacial is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-intensity pulses of light to target pigmentation, redness, and vascular lesions. Unlike traditional lasers that focus on a single wavelength of light, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths, allowing it to treat a range of skin issues simultaneously.

The light energy penetrates the skin’s surface, targeting melanin and blood vessels without damaging surrounding tissue. This process stimulates collagen production, reduces hyperpigmentation, and diminishes fine lines. IPL is particularly effective for treating sun spots, freckles, rosacea, and broken capillaries.

2. Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is a more intensive treatment designed to correct deeper skin imperfections such as wrinkles, acne scars, and age spots. The CO2 laser creates microscopic channels in the skin, promoting the formation of new collagen and elastin.

This fractional approach targets only a fraction of the skin at a time, leaving surrounding tissue intact to accelerate healing. Recovery typically involves redness and peeling for several days, but the long-term benefits include smoother skin texture, improved tone, and reduced fine lines.

3. Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal offers a longlasting solution for unwanted hair on various parts of the body. This treatment uses concentrated beams of light to target the pigment in hair follicles, damaging them to inhibit future growth.

Multiple sessions are typically required to achieve optimal results, as hair grows in cycles. Laser hair removal is most effective on individu-

Cutting-Edge Skin Rejuvenation Technologies

als with light skin and dark hair due to the contrast in pigment, but newer technologies have advanced to treat a broader range of skin tones safely.

4. Pixel Fractional Resurfacing

Pixel fractional resurfacing is a minimally invasive treatment that uses laser technology to create tiny perforations in the skin. Unlike traditional lasers that affect the entire surface, pixel lasers treat only a fraction of the skin, allowing for quicker recovery.

This technique stimulates the body’s natural healing response, promoting the development of new, healthy skin cells while minimizing the appearance of scars, fine lines, and enlarged pores. Pixel resurfacing is especially beneficial for those seeking a less aggressive alternative to full laser resurfacing.

Choosing the Right Treatment

Selecting the most appropriate skin rejuvenation treatment depends on various factors, including skin type,

the severity of the concern, and desired downtime. IPL is ideal for mild pigmentation and redness, while fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is better suited for deeper wrinkles and scars. Laser hair removal is effective for reducing unwanted hair, and pixel fractional resurfacing provides a gentler option for overall skin texture improvement.

Consulting with a qualified skincare specialist is essential to assess individual skin concerns and determine the most effective treatment plan.

New Solutions For Dentures and Dental Implants

Dentures are a good replacement option for patients who are missing all of their teeth, but only if they fit well.

Why

Are My Dentures Loose?

Impact on the bone by continuous hitting and pressure of a denture against the jaw every time you eat can make the bone underneath the denture go away. This causes the denture to become loose and slip. It may create the need for using paste or other means to hold the denture in place. Slipping dentures can make eating certain foods very difficult for patients. This happens most often with lower dentures.

How Can Dentures Fit Well For a Long Time?

Dental implants can be placed under the denture. Implants have offered the possibility of fully replacing teeth for over 30 years and are very safe and effective. When you make the denture stable by “snapping” it onto dental implants, you can provide a better level of comfort for the denture-wearer, and create new strength for eating the foods patients love.

Dentures are a good replacement option for patients who are missing all of their teeth, but only if they fit well.

Dental implants are very much like your natural teeth. They are quite easy to get used to, and they can reduce the amount of stress to the bone and jaw by helping provide an anchor for support. The implant acts as a natural root to help prevent additional bone deterioration and helps to deliver long lasting function.

Does Every Denture-Wearer Qualify?

This depends on the amount of bone loss that has already taken place. If the denture has been in place for many years and the ridge of bone under it is very thin, you may need to have a special scan done to decide if you are a candidate for the procedure. This scan will also look for any other defects that may be present to make sure you are healthy. Since implants are meant to last for a very long time, your health and wellness are important to the outcome.

How Long Does a Patient Have To Go Without Teeth?

Never. The denture is fitted to the implants, the same day the implants are placed. Typically, you are back to normal or better eating by day two or three.

Do Dental Implants Hurt?

Most patients have little to no dis-

comfort. The surgery is done in one day, typically in just a few hours. There are sedation options available for this procedure for those patients who want to relax through the procedure.

Is Treatment Expensive?

The cost of treatment varies depending on the number of implants, if a new denture needs to be made, if the patient desires sedation, or if

there needs to be more bone added to have a good result. Costs are variable and should be weighed against factors such as the education of the doctor, the results from other patient experiences, and the quality of the product you are receiving.

Understanding Acute Vs. Chronic Dental Pain: Causes and Treatments

Dental pain can be categorized into two main types: acute and chronic. While both can significantly impact a person’s quality of life, they differ in duration, underlying causes, and appropriate treatments. Understanding these distinctions can help patients seek timely and effective care, potentially preventing further oral health complications.

What Is Acute Dental Pain?

Acute dental pain typically arises suddenly and is often severe. It is usually a symptom of an underlying dental issue, such as:

Tooth Decay: Advanced cavities can penetrate the enamel and dentin, exposing the sensitive pulp and causing sharp, intense pain.

Dental Abscess: A bacterial infection can lead to a pus-filled pocket, resulting in throbbing pain, swelling, and potential fever.

Trauma or Injury: Accidents, sports injuries, or biting down on hard objects can cause fractures, chips, or dislodged teeth, leading to immediate pain.

Gingivitis or Periodontitis: Inflammation of the gums due to plaque buildup can cause acute discomfort, especially when the gums are swollen or bleeding.

Post-Procedure Pain: Dental procedures such as root canals, extractions, or fillings can cause temporary pain as the tissues heal.

Treatment For Acute Dental Pain:

Addressing acute pain involves identifying and treating the underlying cause. Common treatments include:

Pain Management: Over-the-

counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can reduce inflammation and discomfort.

Dental Procedures: For abscesses, root canals, or extractions may be necessary to remove infected tissue or repair damaged teeth.

Antibiotics: Bacterial infections are often treated with prescribed antibiotics to prevent the spread of infection.

Restorative Work: Dental fillings, crowns, or bonding can repair structural damage caused by trauma or decay.

Oral Rinses: Antimicrobial mouthwashes can help control bacterial infections and promote healing.

What Is Chronic Dental Pain?

Chronic dental pain persists for weeks or even months, often signaling deeper, more complex oral health issues. Unlike acute pain, which is often sharp and sudden, chronic pain may present as dull, aching, or intermittent discomfort. Potential causes include:

Periodontist

Nerve Damage: Prolonged infection or injury can damage dental nerves, leading to ongoing pain even after treatment.

Periodontal Disease: Advanced gum disease can erode bone and gum tissues, causing chronic inflammation and discomfort.

Failed Dental Work: Poorly fitted crowns, bridges, or dentures can create ongoing irritation and sensitivity.

Sinus Issues: Sinus infections or pressure can radiate pain to the upper teeth and jaw.

Treatment For Chronic Dental Pain

Effective management of chronic pain involves a comprehensive approach: Diagnosis: Accurate diagnosis is crucial to identifying the root cause. Dentists may use X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs for deeper assessment.

Specialist Referral: Patients with TMJ disorders or complex nerve is-

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ): Misaligned jaw joints or teeth grinding can cause persistent jaw and facial pain.

Safe Callus and Corn Treatments

Exploring Over-the-Counter and Podiatrist Options

Calluses and corns are common foot conditions that can cause discomfort and pain. While over-thecounter treatments offer convenience, it’s essential to understand the benefits of seeking professional care from a podiatrist. In this article, we will explore both over-the-counter and podiatrist-recommended treatments for calluses and corns, emphasizing the advantages of consulting a podiatrist.

Over-the-Counter Treatments

Over-the-counter treatments for calluses and corns are readily available and can provide temporary relief. These treatments often include medicated pads, cushions, creams, and ointments. While they may soften the skin and alleviate discomfort, they do not address the underlying cause of the problem. It is important to follow the instructions carefully and discontinue use if any adverse reactions occur.

Benefits Of Podiatrist Care

• Accurate Diagnosis: Podiatrists are foot specialists who can accurately diagnose the cause of calluses and corns. They can differentiate between corns and calluses and identify any underlying foot conditions contributing to their development. This allows for targeted treatment plans tailored to the individual’s specific needs.

• Customized Treatment: Podiatrists provide personalized treatment options based on the severity, location, and cause of the calluses and corns. They may employ various techniques such as debridement (removal of dead skin), trimming, or shaving of corns and calluses, while also addressing any contributing biomechanical or structural issues.

• Preventative Measures: A podiatrist can offer valuable advice on preventive measures to avoid future occurrences. They can recommend appropriate footwear, orthotic devices, and provide guidance on foot care and hygiene. This comprehensive ap-

proach helps reduce the likelihood of callus and corn recurrence.

• Addressing Underlying Conditions: Calluses and corns can be symptomatic of an underlying foot deformity, such as bunions or hammertoes. Podiatrists can identify and treat these conditions, providing long-term relief and preventing further complications.

• Professional Expertise: Podiatrists

undergo extensive training and possess in-depth knowledge of foot anatomy and conditions. They stay updated on the latest advancements in foot care and treatment options. By consulting a podiatrist, patients benefit from their expertise and specialized care, ensuring optimal outcomes.

While over-the-counter treatments may provide temporary relief for calluses and corns, it is crucial to recognize the value of consulting

a podiatrist. Podiatrists offer accurate diagnosis, customized treatment plans, preventative measures, and expertise that go beyond mere symptom management. Seeking professional care from a podiatrist ensures comprehensive foot care and addresses the root causes of calluses and corns, leading to long-term relief and improved foot health. When it comes to your feet, trusting a podiatrist is the safest and most effective choice.

Proper breathing during sleep is crucial for the overall well-being of children, yet many parents may not be fully aware of potential issues related to Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD), which includes pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Ensuring Healthy Smiles and Sound Sleep For Your Child

SRBD refer to disturbances in normal breathing patterns during sleep, ranging from common snoring to more severe pauses in breathing known as apnea events. These interruptions can lead to sleep deprivation and a variety of health complications. In the case of children, untreated SRDB can result in developmental, behavioral, and emotional challenges, potentially leading to conditions like allergies, ADD/ADHD, and depression.

Pediatric OSA, a condition where the airway is partially or completely

Dr. Lynda Dean-Duru

blocked during sleep, is often caused by enlarged tonsils or adenoids and a lack of tongue space. It differs from adult OSA, as it may manifest alongside behavioral issues and daytime sleepiness in children.

The Importance Of Proper Sleep and Open Airways For Children

During the first 18 months of a child’s life, crucial growth and developmental milestones occur, many of which are related to facial development. Ensuring proper breathing is essential for a child’s health and development, im-

pacting facial features, jaw development, and overall growth. Mouth breathing can set off a chain reaction of issues, altering the growth of the lower and upper jaws, midface, and nasal bones, ultimately affecting the child’s facial balance.

Pediatric Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD) and OSA Symptoms

Children with SRDB may present a range of symptoms, including:

• Difficulty falling or staying asleep

• Sleepwalking, night terrors, and other parasomnias

• Excessive daytime sleepiness

• Mouth breathing, dry lips, bad breath

• Dark circles under the eyes

• Tonsil and adenoid problems

• Snoring

• Teeth grinding

• Bed-wetting

• Inner ear infections

• Limited tongue/lip mobility

• Hyperactivity

• Difficulty concentrating

• Selective eating habits

• Bedwetting

In the case of pediatric OSA, symptoms may involve snoring, breathing pauses, restlessness, and coughing or choking episodes during sleep.

Contrary to conventional belief, pediatric dentists with specialized training are well-equipped to address symptoms related to sleep and airway conditions. The airway, mode of breathing, and malocclusion are closely interconnected and should be addressed early and holistically by dentists. Advanced technology, such as cone beam 3D imaging, allows dentists to effectively diagnose airway issues and guide proper growth and development. Early intervention is essential in guiding proper growth and development.

Convenient at-home sleep study tests are now available to diagnose pediatric sleep apnea and breathing issues. These tests provide comprehensive, accurate data for proper diagnoses.

Treatment goals encompass the elimination of detrimental habits, guiding optimal cranial, jaw, and facial development, preventing dental misalignment, and enhancing airway health and oxygen sufficiency. Various therapies, including oral appliances, myofunctional therapy and positive airway pressure therapy, can effectively alleviate symptoms.

Can just four implants replace all of the teeth on the top or the bottom of your mouth? Thanks to advances in dental implant technology, that answer is a resounding yes.

Believe it or not, tooth loss is extremely common among adults, especially as we age. In fact, more than 35 million people in America are missing all of their upper and/or lower teeth. Rather than living with the discomfort and hassles of dentures, many people are opting for what is called “all-onfour” dental implant restoration.

All-On-Four: One Full Arch Of Teeth, Four Dental Implants

To fully understand this remark-

A Reason To Smile Again

able technique for replacing teeth, you should first understand what a dental implant is. An implant is a small titanium screw that fits inside your jawbone and replaces the root-part of a missing tooth. Minor surgery is required to insert the implants. Once the implant is in place, a crown is attached to give you a highly realistic-looking and functional prosthetic tooth.

Here’s where it gets really interesting: You do not need a dental implant for each and every one of your missing teeth. All you need is four precisely placed implants on the top of your mouth, and four on the bottom, to restore your full smile. That’s the beauty of the all-on-four. And because the implant is made of titanium, it has the unique ability to fuse to living bone and function as part of it. So eventually, the dental implant becomes part of the jawbone and serves as a strong, long-lasting foundation for your new teeth.

Besides ensuring that your implants are permanently fixed in place,

Missing Teeth or Tired of Wearing Dentures?

Thanks to advances in dental implant technology, just four implants can replace all of the teeth on the top or the bottom of your mouth.

this bone fusion has another important benefit: it prevents future bone loss in the jaw. This helps to maintain a more youthful facial structure – and better oral health. But perhaps the biggest surprise about the all-on-four is how quickly it can transform your life.

What’s The All-On-Four Dental Implant Procedure Like?

It can be scary to get implants for the first time. Most of that fear is probably due to the uncertainty, so here is the step-by-step process for getting an All-On-Four dental implant.

First, your dentist will want to make sure your comfortable, so either local or general anesthesia will be administered.

Second, the dentist or surgeon will prepare your mouth for the implants, which involves removing your remaining teeth that are failing. They will then remove any diseased or infected tissue from your jaw and gums.

Next, they will begin the implantation process. This means they will

insert the titanium screws into your jawbone. Most likely, they will place two implants toward the front of your mouth and two towards the back of your mouth so the “anchors” can evenly bare the force of the denture.

After the implants have been placed, they will thoroughly clean the surgical sites and suturing all the incisions. Then you’ll be taken to a recovery room where you can relax and take time to wake up from the anesthesia.

How Do You Know If The All-On-Four Procedure Is The Right Option For You?

At your All-On-Four consultation, you’ll receive a 3D CT Scan. This scan will help determine if you need implants and assist your doctors in creating your treatment plan. So if you want to learn more about dental implants, simply schedule a consultation with an All-On-Four provider. It’s the best way to find out how dental implants can change your life.

The first step is a consultation with a fertility specialist. During this visit, you will undergo an initial assessment, including blood tests and an ultrasound, to evaluate your ovarian reserve and overall reproductive health.

4. Ovarian Stimulation

You will self-administer hormone injections for about 10–14 days to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Regular monitoring through blood tests and ultrasounds will ensure your response to the medication is optimal.

5. Egg Retrieval Procedure

6. Freezing the Eggs

After retrieval, the eggs are immediately frozen using a method called vitrification. This flash-freezing technique prevents the formation of ice crystals, ensuring the eggs remain viable for future use.

7. Storage and Maintenance

Frozen eggs can be stored for many years. Most clinics in Maryland offer long-term storage options. It’s important to discuss the storage fees and any long-term plans with your clinic.

8. Costs and Financing Options

The cost of egg freezing can vary, but it typically includes the initial consultation, medication, monitoring, egg retrieval, and storage. Many clinics offer financing options or payment plans to help manage the expense. It’s worth discussing these options during your initial consultation.

Once the eggs are ready, a minor surgical procedure is performed to retrieve them. Under sedation, a needle is guided by ultrasound to collect the eggs from the ovaries. This procedure is quick, typically lasting 20–30 minutes.

9. Success Rates and Considerations

The success of egg freezing depends on several factors, including your age at the time of freezing and the number of eggs retrieved. Generally, freezing your eggs at a younger age yields better results. Your fertility specialist can provide personalized insights based on your situation.

10. Emotional and Psychological Support

The decision to freeze your eggs can be emotionally challenging. Many clinics offer counseling services to support you through the process. Connecting with others who have undergone the same procedure can also be beneficial. Egg freezing is a powerful option for women looking to take control of their reproductive futures. Understanding the process, choosing the right clinic, and knowing what to expect can help make the journey smoother. If you’re considering egg freezing in Maryland, take the time to research and consult with experts to make the best decision for your needs. Prevously publised on Medium.com

A Complete Contouring Solution Transform Your Body

achieving the sculpted body you desire. Unlike traditional liposuction, which focuses on specific areas, 360 liposuction provides a comprehensive, full-body contouring approach to enhance your natural shape from every angle.

What Is 360 Liposuction?

360 liposuction, also known as Lipo 360, is an advanced body

Enhance Your Beauty With 360 Liposuction and Emsculpt

With 360 Liposuction

contouring procedure that targets multiple areas of the midsection, including the:

• Abdomen

• Flanks (love handles)

• Lower back

• Upper back

• Waistline

By addressing fat deposits

around the entire torso, this technique creates a more balanced, 360-degree transformation, enhancing the natural curves of the body.

How Does 360 Liposuction Work?

The procedure uses advanced liposuction techniques to gently remove excess fat while sculpting a smoother, more contoured appearance. Depending on your needs, your provider may use:

• Tumescent liposuction (a minimally invasive approach using local anesthesia)

• Laser-assisted liposuction (to help tighten the skin)

• Power-assisted liposuction (for more precise fat removal)

Since 360 liposuction treats multiple areas at once, it creates a dramatic yet natural-looking transformation.

Who Is a Good Candidate For 360 Liposuction?

Ideal candidates for 360 liposuction include individuals who:

• Have stubborn fat deposits that don’t respond to diet and exercise

• Are close to their ideal weight but want better definition

• Have good skin elasticity to ensure smooth contouring

• Want a more sculpted waistline, flatter stomach, and toned back It is not a weight-loss procedure but rather a body sculpting method for those seeking enhanced curves and definition.

Recovery and Results

Recovery from 360 liposuction is typically quicker than traditional liposuction because modern techniques are less invasive. Patients can expect:

• Mild swelling and bruising for the first few weeks

• Compression garments to help shape the body and reduce swelling

• Visible results within a few weeks, with final results appearing after 3-6 months

Most patients return to work within a week, depending on the extent of the procedure.

The seal below is his stamp of approval.

Brown is highly trained in ALF (Advanced Light Force) therapy. He has over 500 hours in ALF therapy training and has lectured around the world teaching ALF techniques with Dr. Nordstrom, the creator of the ALF appliances. The ALF appliances are thin, conservative appliances that can be used on the upper and lower arches. They hide behind the teeth, are removable and are basically invisible when being worn. This innovative treatment approach is used to address neurological, orthodontic and orthopedic issues, and the benefits are vast. Each appliance is unique to the patient and designed by the doctor to achieve specific goals relating to health, beauty and function. No ALF appliance is the same, and treatment is pain-free.

The latest technology in hearing aids will include advances in sound processing to manage loudness input, background noise, and speech intelligibility. This is accomplished with a sophisticated array of microphones that can reduce background noise while allowing meaningful speech to be intelligible. In many cases, this is possible when the speech is coming from different directions such as from the front, side or behind of the individual.

What type of hearing aid is most appropriate is contingent on the degree of hearing loss, issues related to word processing and/or understanding, and lifestyle.

While there are many situations where an OTC hearing aid is appropriate for an adult with mild to moderate hearing loss there are other situations where a prescriptively fit hearing aid is better to meet listening needs.

To achieve an optimal hearing aid fitting, start with a hearing evaluation by a licensed audiologist who can recommend appropriate over-the-counter hearing aids or cost-effective prescription hearing aids.

Note: While most OTC hearing aids are not covered, many prescription hearing aids are covered by medical insurances.

All-On-4 Dental Implants: A Reason To Smile Again

All-on-Four: One Full Arch Of Teeth, Four Dental Implants

To fully understand this remarkable technique for replacing teeth, you should first understand what a dental implant is.

Besides ensuring that your implants are permanently fixed in place, this bone fusion has another important benefit: it prevents future bone loss in the jaw.

This means they will insert the titanium screws into your jawbone.

Considering Neck Lift Surgery?

Reduce Signs of Aging and Treat Sagging Skin!

A neck lift can be performed for men and women of varying ages who are often frustrated by changes of the appearance of their neck and jawline. Depending on your age, a neck lift can be a short one-hour procedure to remove fat or a 3-hour procedure to remove fat, visible neck bands, and excess skin.

Neck Lift Surgery Can:

Remove Excess Skin (Cervicoplasty) • Liposuction to Remove Excess Fat

Remove or Alter Neck Muscles (Platysmaplasty)

Liposuction can be performed alone or with surgical removal of the fat under the chin through a small incision under the chin.

In patients with vertical bands in the neck, a platysmaplasty can be performed to reduce the appearance of the bands.

Sometimes a chin implant is recommended to improve the overall contour and help with excess skin.

How Modern Dental Technology Leads To Better Patient Outcomes

The Future Of Dentistry Is Already Here

Advancements in dental technology are reshaping the patient experience—from diagnosis to treatment and recovery. Today’s dental offices look very different from those of the past. With tools like digital x-rays, 3D imaging, and advanced lasers, care has become more precise, more efficient, and far more comfortable. These innovations help dental professionals

Optimum Health Begins With

provide higher-quality care while making each visit easier for patients.

Digital and 3D Imaging: A Clearer Picture

One of the most significant changes in modern dentistry is the shift from traditional x-rays to digital imaging. Digital x-rays use less radiation and deliver clear, detailed images in seconds. For more complex cases, 3D cone beam imaging offers a comprehensive view of the teeth, jaw, and airway. This level of detail is particularly valuable when planning procedures like dental implants, evaluating orthodontic needs, or diagnosing conditions such as TMJ disorders. These tools support more accurate assessments and more effective treatment planning.

The Value Of Preserving Natural Teeth Why Saving Is Better Than Extracting

When it comes to dental health, preserving your natural teeth is almost always the better option. While extractions may seem like a quick fix, they can lead to more complex, cost-

ly, and time-consuming treatments in the long run. Opting to save your teeth through endodontic procedures such as root canals, Apicoectomy, and Pulpotomy can provide significant benefits, including cost savings, reduced discomfort, and long-term functionality.

Root Canals:

Painless and Cost-Effective

Contrary to popular belief, root canals are not painful. Advanced techniques and modern anesthetics make the procedure virtually painless. A root canal involves removing the infected pulp inside the tooth, disinfecting the canal, and sealing it

A number of studies link heart disease and other serious conditions to the presence of periodontal (gum) disease. This research makes it vital that we take a Complete Health approach to your dental care. Dr. Rogers will listen to you, conduct a careful assessment, and carefully explain your proposed customized wellness plan. He will then take the time to answer all of your questions. You become a partner in your oral health goals!

Our team has mastered the techniques of gentle dentistry and is skilled at helping patients with any level of apprehension relax and grow comfortable with visiting the dentist. Anxiety and tension have a variety of sources, so it’s important for us to listen to your concerns as well as your goals and history. Then we address your anxieties and proceed with gentle treatment only when you’re ready. We deliver all of this in an office that is environmentally aware, while you enjoy a variety of spa-like amenities during your visit. One of our greatest joys is helping patients smile again, especially those who may not have seen a dentist in a while. You’ll be amazed at how the quality of life can change! We strive to create a partnership with you that starts the moment you walk through our door.

Chinese Acupuncture For Shoulder Pain

More than 3,000 years ago, the origins of Chinese acupuncture took root, becoming an integral aspect of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This therapeutic practice involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the skin to promote healing. By targeting these points, acupuncture aims to restore the flow of energy along the body’s meridians, which, ac-

cording to theory, becomes obstructed, leading to discomfort.

Shoulder pain ranks among the most prevalent symptoms, stemming from various common causes such as tendon inflammation, adhesive capsulitis, instability, arthritis, and fractures. While less frequent, shoulder pain can also result from tumors, infections, or nerve-related issues.

ducted at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, examined the efficacy of acupuncture in managing shoulder pain. In a single-blind randomized trial, adults experiencing shoulder pain for at least eight weeks due to osteoarthritis or rotator cuff tendonitis were assessed. Thirty-one participants were divided into three treatment groups: individualized acupuncture based on TCM principles, standardized acupuncture targeting typical shoulder pain points, and sham acupuncture without needle penetration.

Following six weeks of treatment, improvements in the total Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) scores were observed across all groups. However, clinically significant changes were only evident in the first two groups. Consequently, acupuncture emerges as a potentially effective therapy for chronic shoulder pain.

Why Does Acupuncture Sometimes Fail To Yield Results?

The practice of traditional Chinese medicine, encompassing acupuncture and herbal remedies, is in-

tricate and requires extensive training. Optimal treatment outcomes hinge on identifying the correct acupuncture point formula and precise point locations. Without this precision, acupuncture may not deliver desired results.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Overall, acupuncture is considered a safe treatment option. Potential side effects include dizziness, localized bleeding, dermatitis, nerve injury, or increased pain, particularly in cases where practitioners lack adequate training. Therefore, the expertise of a welltrained and experienced acupuncturist is crucial for both efficacy and safety.

Make sure your child or adolescent is doing three types of physical activity: aerobic activity, muscle strengthening and bone strengthening. To meet the guidelines for aerobic activity, basically anything counts, as long as it’s done at a moderate- or vigorous-intensity for at least 10 minutes at a time for about 60 minutes a day. Many of the physical activities fall under more than one type of activity. For example, if your child is on a basketball team and practices with their teammates daily they are not only doing vigorous-intensity aerobic activity but also bone-strengthening. It’s easy to fit each type of activity into your child’s schedule.

Debunking Dental Hygiene Myths Separating Fact From Fiction

In the realm of pediatric dental care, myths and misconceptions abound. Parents often find themselves navigating a sea of conflicting information when it comes to their child’s oral health. From the importance of baby teeth to the efficacy of fluoride, separating fact from fiction is crucial for maintaining optimal dental hygiene. This article will debunk some of the most common dental hygiene myths to help you

make informed decisions about your child’s dental care.

Myth 1: Baby Teeth Are Disposable

One prevalent myth is that baby teeth are not essential since they eventually fall out anyway. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Baby teeth play a crucial role in a child’s development, aiding in speech development, proper chewing, and maintaining space for permanent teeth. Neglecting baby teeth can lead to dental issues, such as misalignment and decay, which

may require costly interventions later.

Myth 2: Fluoride Is Harmful

There’s a misconception that fluoride is harmful, particularly for children. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens tooth enamel, making it more resistant to decay. Fluoridated water and toothpaste are proven to be safe and effective in preventing cavities. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends fluoride toothpaste for children as soon as their first tooth erupts.

both parents and patients in dental hygiene. We strive to treat each patient and parent as we would our own family members.

Our practice offers your child the most up-to-date pediatric dentistry services for

• Dental Care for Children of All Ages (Infants to Adolescents)

• Accepts most insurance plans

• Preventive Care: Gentle cleanings, oral hygiene guidance, sealants, and nutritional counseling

• Emergency Care: Urgent treatment for broken teeth, trauma, and dental pain

• Specialized training in caring for patients with special healthcare needs

• Hospital sedation available for eligible patients

• Treatment of tooth decay with appropriate restorations: composite (white) fillings, crowns, nerve treatments, and extractions

• Educational daycare and classroom visits available upon request

• Diverse team happy to share their languages: Spanish, Italian, Farsi, Arabic, and Portuguese (Translation service available upon request)

• “Camps Cares” – community engagement and philanthropy initiative

Myth 3: Brushing Harder Means Cleaner Teeth

Many people believe that applying excessive force while brushing will result in cleaner teeth. However, aggressive brushing can damage tooth enamel and irritate gums, leading to sensitivity and recession. Dentists recommend using a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle, circular motions to remove plaque effectively without causing harm to the teeth and gums.

Myth 4: Sugar Is the Main Cause Of Cavities

While sugar certainly contributes to tooth decay, it’s not the sole culprit. Cavities develop when bacteria in the mouth feed on sugars and produce acids that erode tooth enamel. Starchy foods like chips and crackers can also fuel bacterial growth. Additionally, poor oral hygiene habits, such as infrequent brushing and flossing, can exacerbate the risk of cavities. A balanced diet, along with proper dental care, is key to preventing tooth decay.

Myth 5: Children Don’t Need To See a Dentist Until They Have All Their Permanent Teeth

Waiting until all permanent teeth have erupted before seeing a dentist is a common misconception. Children should have their first dental visit by the age of one or within six months of their first tooth eruption. Early dental checkups allow dentists to monitor oral development, provide guidance on proper oral hygiene practices, and detect any potential issues early on. Dispelling dental hygiene myths is essential for promoting optimal oral health in children. By understanding the facts and debunking misconceptions, parents can make informed decisions about their child’s dental care. Remember, regular dental check-ups, proper oral hygiene habits, and a balanced diet are the cornerstones of a healthy smile that lasts a lifetime. Schedule a visit with your pediatric dentist today to ensure your child’s smile stays bright and healthy for years to come.

Natural teeth

to prevent future infection. By preserving the natural tooth structure, root canals maintain your natural bite and prevent neighboring teeth from shifting—a common consequence of extractions. Additionally, root canals are generally more cost-effective than extractions when factoring in the expenses of implants, bridges, and ongoing maintenance.

Other Endodontic Procedures:

Targeted, Effective Solutions

In some cases, a root canal may not be sufficient to address a complex infection. That’s where other endodontic procedures come into play. An Apicoectomy is a surgical procedure that removes the tip of the tooth’s root to clear persistent infection and promote healing. A Pulpotomy is often used to treat primary teeth or teeth with extensive decay, removing only the damaged pulp while leaving the healthy portion intact. Both procedures aim to save the natural tooth rather than resort to extraction.

From PaGe 33

Trauma Doesn’t Always Mean Extraction

Teeth that have experienced trauma, such as a severe fracture or deep cavity, may still be viable candidates for treatment. Rather than opting for immediate extraction, a skilled endodontist can assess the extent of damage and recommend appropriate interventions to save the tooth. This could involve stabilizing the tooth, performing a root canal, or employing advanced surgical techniques to preserve the natural structure.

The Long-Term Perspective

smarter smiles

anesthesia in a controlled and gentle way, have made common procedures easier for those who feel uneasy about injections. Lasers are also playing a larger role, particularly in soft tissue treatments. Whether used to treat gum disease or assist in minor surgical procedures, lasers can reduce discomfort, bleeding, and healing time. These tools allow for a less invasive approach to care without compromising results.

MRI and TMJ: Pinpointing the Problem

ern—it is allowing for better care. When dentists have clearer imaging and more precise tools, they can catch problems earlier, treat them more accurately, and reduce the discomfort often associated with procedures. Tools that support gentler treatment and quicker healing make it easier for patients to stay on top of their oral health. These advancements ultimately lead to fewer complications and better long-term outcomes.

What Patients Can Expect Today

From : : : YourHEALTH Magazine Design Shop, Heather L. Mahoney date:

While extractions may seem like a simple solution, the long-term costs can quickly add up. Dental implants, bridges, and dentures require ongoing maintenance and periodic replacements, whereas a properly treated natural tooth can last a lifetime with routine dental care. By choosing to save your teeth, you not only protect your smile but also preserve your oral health for years to come.

and attitude toward physical activity. Start by choosing physical activities you and your child enjoy and that match your child’s abilities, it will help ensure that you both stick with them. Encourage them to be physically active for one hour or more each day, with activities ranging from informal, active play to organized sports. If you’re not sure where to start, here are some examples.

• Physical activity should be a part of the family’s daily routine.

• Set a positive example by leading an active lifestyle yourself.

• Be positive about the physical activities in which your child participates and encourage them to be interested

Pain Management Plans: Chronic pain may require long-term pain management, including medications, nerve blocks, or physical therapy.

Gum Disease Therapy: Scaling, root planing, and laser therapy can help control periodontal disease and alleviate discomfort.

Bite Adjustment: Orthodontic or restorative work may be necessary to correct misaligned bites or faulty dental work.

Prevention and Maintenance

For patients with jaw pain or suspected TMJ disorders, accurate diagnosis is key. MRI technology provides a detailed view of the joint’s soft tissues, including the disc and surrounding muscles. This allows for a better understanding of the underlying issue, which leads to more targeted treatment. In cases involving complex jaw function, this level of imaging can be the difference between temporary relief and long-term resolution.

Why Technology Matters To Your Dental Health

Today’s technology is not just making dentistry faster or more mod-

Modern dental practices are changing expectations about what a dental visit should feel like. Technology should be part of every step— from diagnostics to treatment planning to follow-up care. Patients will benefit from a thoughtful, well-informed approach that combines clinical expertise with tools designed to make the process smoother and more effective. This kind of care reflects where dentistry is headed, and it is already making a difference for patients seeking precision, comfort, and long-term results.

• Make physical activity fun. Fun activities can be anything that your child enjoys, structured or nonstructured sports.

• After dinner, encourage your child to find fun activities with friends and family.

• Always provide protective equipment and ensure that the physical activity is developmentally and age-appropriate.

If your child has a chronic health condition or other symptoms be sure to talk with the doctor about the types and amounts of physical activity that are right for them.

From PaGe 12

Preventing both acute and chronic dental pain begins with routine dental care. Regular check-ups, professional cleanings, and good oral hygiene can prevent decay, infection, and periodontal disease. Additionally, wearing protective gear during sports, managing stress to reduce teeth grinding, and seeking prompt treatment for dental injuries can minimize the risk of chronic complications. Understanding the differences between acute and chronic dental pain empowers patients to seek timely care, preventing minor issues from escalating into more severe and persistent conditions.

Brain-Boosting Foods For Students and Career Success

by ScholarsHub.net

What you eat can significantly impact cognitive function, memory, and concentration – all essential for academic achievement and career success. Incorporating nutrient-rich foods into your diet can fuel your brain, enhance focus, and improve mental clarity. Here are some top brain-boosting foods to consider:

Fatty Fish:

Salmon, mackerel, and sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, par-

ticularly DHA and EPA. These essential fats are crucial for brain health as they help build cell membranes, reduce inflammation, and improve communication between brain cells. Studies suggest that regular consumption of omega-3s may enhance memory and reduce the risk of cognitive decline.

Blueberries:

Packed with antioxidants, blueberries protect the brain from oxidative stress and inflammation. Anthocyanins, the pigments that give blueberries their vibrant color, are

linked to improved memory and delayed brain aging. Snack on a handful or add them to smoothies for a nutrient-dense boost.

Dark Chocolate:

Dark chocolate, especially varieties with at least 70% cocoa, contains flavonoids, caffeine, and antioxidants. These compounds can improve blood flow to the brain, enhance cognitive function, and even boost mood. However, moderation is key – stick to small servings to avoid excess sugar and fat.

Leafy Greens:

Spinach, kale, and broccoli are loaded with vitamins and minerals like folate, vitamin K, and lutein. These nutrients support cognitive function, protect brain cells, and may help prevent dementia. Include leafy greens in salads, smoothies, or omelets for a nutrient-rich meal.

Nuts and Seeds:

Almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds, and chia seeds are excellent sources of vitamin E, antioxidants, and healthy fats. Vitamin E helps protect brain cells from oxidative damage, while omega-3s in walnuts and

flaxseeds support cognitive function. Sprinkle seeds over yogurt or add nuts to trail mix for a brain-boosting snack.

Whole Grains:

Whole grains such as oatmeal, quinoa, and brown rice provide a steady release of glucose, the brain’s primary fuel source. Complex carbohydrates keep blood sugar levels stable, preventing the energy crashes that can impair focus and productivity.

Eggs:

Eggs are rich in choline, a nutrient essential for memory and brain development. They also contain vitamins B6 and B12, which play a role in maintaining healthy nerve cells. Enjoy eggs scrambled, boiled, or as part of a breakfast sandwich for a brain-boosting start to your day.

Incorporating these foods into your diet can help improve focus, memory, and overall brain function, setting you up for academic and career success.
