Do your eyes feel gritty and burn sometimes? Does the slightest bit of air make your eyes tear excessively? Does smoke make you tear like crazy? Have your eyes become more sensitive to light? Have you become less able to wear your soft contacts as long as you used to? If the answer to these questions is yes, you may have dry eye syndrome.
Dry eye is a condition that affects millions of people every day. It is often a normal part of the aging process. It is estimated that nearly 75% of people over the age of 65 will experience some form of dry eye syndrome. It can be both a seasonal problem or a chronic problem for some. While it occurs in both men and women, it is more common in women who are pregnant or post-menopausal. People who have chronic allergies and contact lens wearers have a greater risk of developing dry eyes. Other causes include exposure to environmental conditions, injuries to the eye, or general health problems. For example, people with arthritis and diabetes are more prone to dry eye. Some other specific causes of dry eye include:
• Sun
• Wind
• Cold
• Dry air
• Indoor heating and air conditioning
• Computer screens
• High altitudes
• Eye surgery
Computer vision syndrome is a recently recognized entity that has evolved with the increasing popularity of computers in businesses, schools
and at home. More and more, we use computers in our daily activities.
Oftentimes, we stare at the screen all day, forgetting to blink, which is the necessary way the eye replenishes the cornea with fluid. The decrease in blinking only causes an increase in dryness, fatigue, light sensitivity, burning, and eyestrain over time. Dry eye syndrome can be the result unless some preventative steps are taken ahead of time.
Dry eye syndrome is literally the eye’s inability to lubricate and tear correctly or adequately. Oddly enough, some people who have dry eye syndrome actually tear excessively. Unfortunately, the pH or acidity of their tears is altered so that the eyes still feel dry and itchy, causing them to tear continuously.
The use of certain medications can also alter the eye’s ability to lubricate. Some of the most common medications are:
• Antihistamines
• Decongestants
• Blood pressure medication
• Antidepressants
• Anti-anxiety medication
Certain types of diseases can also alter the eyes, these include:
• Thyroid deficiencies
• Sjogrens syndrome
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Autoimmune disorders (i.e. lupus, HIV)
• Bell’s palsy
• Myasthenia gravis
Treatment
Your doctor may prescribe one or more of the following treatments:
• Artificial teardrops. There are many to choose from. Ask your eye doctor for recommendations.
• Ointments and gels placed in the eyes to lubricate. These generally last longer than drops. They can blur the vision for a time during the first few minutes after instillation. These are generally needed less often than drops.
• Temporarily or permanently plugging the tear ducts while manually replacing the tears with drops or ointments. This is a very effective way to keep your own tears around longer to lubricate the eyes and decrease the number and frequency of artificial tears necessary to treat the dry eye problem.
• Hormone replacement , if due to menopause.
• Change in birth control prescription, if applicable.
• Change contact lens to one more appropriate for a person with dry eye syndrome. Some contact lenses absorb water.
Therefore, if you are not making enough tears in the first place, and you are wearing a contact lens that absorbs a lot of water to itself and away from your eye, you are effectively making your dry eye worse. Ask your eye doctor for details especially if you find that you can’t wear your contacts more than a few hours before you have to take them out.
In addition to this, some natural products such as oral flaxseed oil have been shown to be quite useful for patients with dry eye syndrome. Most patients can get this at their local health food store. Normally, doses range from 1000mg to 3000mg orally a day with meals for effective relief of symptoms.

Your Health Magazine is on a mission. There are far too many people, insured or not, who do not go to the doctor when they should, and in millions of cases, don’t know who they should go to, or why.
People are encouraged to buy a new house, car, cell phone or big screen TV, and those companies make themselves very visible and their products easily attainable.
Information about, and from, local healthcare providers is not easy to find, and many times those services are difficult to access.
Information and encouragement always lowers fear and trepidation about anything, and this is especially true in healthcare. While general information is available on web-sites, specific information from local providers is almost impossible for people to find. This is one of the key reasons chronic and episodic conditions are not cared for. It is our mission to:
Make A Difference By Empowering and Encouraging People To Live Healthier By Going To the Doctor When They Should.
There is a lot of evidence that the health professionals who participate in Your Health Magazine have helped many people over the years. We at Your Health Magazine salute you!

The journey to restoring a missing tooth with a dental implant involves more than surgery alone. Successful treatment requires careful planning, preparation, and sometimes collaboration between dental specialists before the implant is ever placed.
The first step is a detailed diagnostic process. Patients can expect their dentist to take photographs, X-rays, and impressions or digital scans to create models of their teeth. These records allow the dentist, oral surgeon, and orthodontist to review the patient’s oral condition together and determine the most appropriate approach. In some cases, additional teeth may need to be extracted if they are severely compromised, ensuring a healthy and functional result.
At this stage, patients should ask themselves key questions before proceeding:
• Do I like my smile?
• Am I chewing food properly and efficiently?
• Do I have crowding or spaces between my teeth?
• How does my gumline look when I smile?
These questions help patients reflect on both function and aesthetics, which is important because once an implant is placed, it will not move with orthodontic treatment. If alignment issues exist, orthodontic treatment should happen before implants or permanent crowns are placed. Unfortunately, one of the common mistakes made during treatment planning is failing to account for orthodontic considerations early on. Inadequate space for the implant,
poor alignment, or untreated bite issues can complicate or even jeopardize implant success. This is why patients should proactively ask their dentist if an orthodontic consultation is advisable, especially when a plan for implants, crowns, or bridges is being presented.
Once the diagnostic phase is complete and any necessary orthodontic or preparatory work is done,
the surgical phase begins. The oral surgeon carefully places the titanium implant post into the jawbone, setting the foundation for the restoration. After a healing period (typically three to six months) for osseointegration—the fusion of the implant and bone—the patient returns for placement of the abutment and the final custom crown.
Treatment timelines can vary
considerably based on the complexity of the case and the need for adjunctive care like extractions or orthodontics. When done properly, with a well-coordinated team and clear patient involvement, the process results in an implant that not only replaces the missing tooth but restores function, balance, and confidence.

Living with TMJ (temporomandibular joint) pain can be challenging but understanding its causes and seeking professional care are key steps toward finding relief. The pain is real and affects everything surrounding jaw muscles to other parts of the body. Whether your discomfort stems
from difficulty with everyday activities like eating or speaking, or other long-term impacts on overall health like migraines or hearing difficulties, the underlying factors need to be addressed and identified early. This can prevent long-term complications and improve your quality of life.
TMJ disorder’s (TMD) most common symptoms include bruxism (chronic teeth grinding and clenching), jaw pain, clicking or popping sounds,
L. Brown,
limited jaw movement, misaligned bite (missing teeth or abnormalities), headaches, earaches, connective tissue disorders (EDS, arthritis, or Lupus), and even neck and back pain. It is important to figure out what is causing these symptoms as one type of appliance or therapy may not be the correct path to solve the problem. Typically, the most common symptom is popping and clicking that is heard. This means the disc that sits on top of the condyle is slipping off when the jaw opens and pops back into place when the jaw closes. The second most common is bruxism. This is the group of muscles surrounding your jaw that function in speaking, grinding, and eating. The muscle tension can stem from your body naturally trying to get the disc back in place. The ear symptoms (pain, congestion, or ringing) generally are caused by the jaw being misaligned and the disc pushing against the ear canal or the jaw joint itself. The key to successful treatment is to know the cause first. Every patient’s situation is unique and involves careful evaluation and discussion.
Achieving a proper diagnosis and an effective treatment plan will involve a number of diagnosis methods. The combination of techniques to identify the root cause of TMD include:
Dr. Jeffrey Brown has limited his practice to focus only on TMJ Disorders, Craniofacial Pain Management and Sleep Apnea. By fixing slipped discs in the jaw joints, Dr. Brown can significantly reduce the pain patients experience in the head/neck region and other symptoms associated with jaw joint problems. Sleep & TMJ Therapy may be able to improve the quality of life for you or a loved one – we encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns.
“Dr. Brown and his staff are absolutely wonderful. I was diagnosed with Dystonia. I could not turn my head and had a ton of pain. My doctors offered no help and no advice besides Meds and Botox. Since having the appliance I have NO pain and I can turn my head. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I feel Dr. Brown and his staff really care about their patients and helping them to get better. They do not just numb the symptoms but fix the problem. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I feel like the old me again!” - D. Thomas
“My daughter has been treated by Dr. Stack and Dr. Brown for the last 2 1/2 years, and we are very fortunate to have found them. Prior to that she was being treated by a neurologist at a Children’s hospital. She was on medications for tics and associated muscle pain, OCD/repetitive thoughts, sleeplessness and more (all possibly associated with Tourettes). Drs. Stack and Brown installed spacers to alleviate pressure on nerve bundles in the jaw, and subsequently braces to complete the process. Her symptoms have diminished significantly. She is off medication, her tics have all but disappeared, she can concentrate better in school, and she is once again cheerful and relaxed.”

Medical/Dental History and Symptom Review: The history of the patient provides possible understanding of any conditions causing the joint or bite problems. Understanding the onset, frequency, and severity of symptoms helps narrow down potential causes.
Physical Examination: The provider will evaluate tenderness throughout the muscles (head, neck and shoulders), and alignment, as well as listening for any sounds.
Imaging Needs: CBCT X-Rays are used to see the bone (head and neck) showing any possible causes. The MRI is used to see the soft tissue. How the disc behaves in the open and closed positions. Knowing the structure of the joints and surrounding tissues is critical with treatment.
Bite Analysis: Alignment and occlusion (how your teeth meet when biting) are evaluated to determine if a misaligned bite is contributing to the issue.
Don’t let TMJ pain hold you back from enjoying life’s simplest pleasures. TMD is complex but it is treatable most of the time without surgery. Reach out to your dentist to get a referral to a specialist. Your journey to wellness begins here.

You can’t grow new teeth, but dental implants offer the next best thing if you’ve lost a tooth. A dental implant looks like a tiny screw and replaces the roots of a tooth. During a minor surgical procedure, your dentist creates a small opening in your jawbone and places the implant inside. Over the course of several months, the implant fuses to the bone, providing a secure foundation for the crown that will be placed on top of it. In some cases, you may receive a temporary crown the same day you receive your implant.
Replace Multiple Teeth – When you have more than one tooth missing,
implants provide an ideal replacement mechanism. You don’t even need one implant for every missing tooth. Instead, implant teeth can act as supports for fixed bridgework. For example, if you are missing three teeth in a row, we can place two implants, one on either side of the gap, and a crown in between that has no implant underneath. That way, you won’t need to use any of your remaining natural teeth as bridge supports, which could weaken them and make them more susceptible to decay.
Replace All Teeth Permanently – Implants can support an entire arch of upper or lower replacement teeth that are fixed into the mouth and are never removed. Sometimes the new teeth can be supported by as few as four implants. It’s comparable to the structure of a table, which only needs four legs to hold it up. In cases where jawbone density and volume have deteriorated, five or six implants might be needed to support a row of 10-12 teeth. Dental implant replacement teeth protect your jawbone, won’t slip, and should last a lifetime.

Proper breathing during sleep is crucial for the overall well-being of children, yet many parents may not be fully aware of potential issues related to Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD), which includes pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
SRBD refer to disturbances in normal breathing patterns during sleep, ranging from common snoring to more severe pauses in breathing known as apnea events. These interruptions can lead to sleep deprivation and a variety of health complications. In the case of
children, untreated SRDB can result in developmental, behavioral, and emotional challenges, potentially leading to conditions like allergies, ADD/ADHD, and depression.
Pediatric OSA, a condition where the airway is partially or completely blocked during sleep, is often caused by enlarged tonsils or adenoids and a lack of tongue space. It differs from adult OSA, as it may manifest alongside behavioral issues and daytime sleepiness in children.
Importance
During the first 18 months of a child’s life, crucial growth and developmental milestones occur, many of which are related to facial development. Ensuring proper breathing is essential for a child’s health and development, impacting facial features, jaw development, and overall growth. Mouth breathing can set off a chain reaction of issues, altering the growth of the lower and upper jaws, midface, and nasal bones, ultimately affecting

Obesity is a chronic disease that affects more than a third of adults in the United States. Many weight loss programs and diets recommend increasing protein intake, but why is protein so important, and how much do we actually need?
What Are the Benefits of a High-Protein Diet?
A high-protein diet can support weight loss in several key ways:
1. Reduced Appetite – Protein takes longer to digest than other
macronutrients, helping you feel full for longer and potentially leading to reduced calorie consumption. A higher protein intake increases satiety hormones like GLP-1, peptide YY, and cholecystokinin, while lowering hunger hormones like ghrelin. One study showed that when overweight men consumed 25% of their daily calories from protein, their cravings decreased by 60%.
2. Boosted Metabolism – Protein helps regulate your metabolism by supporting enzymes and hormones that are critical for energy production. When you consume more protein, you increase the efficiency of your metabolism, which means your body burns more calories throughout the day.
3. Burn More Calories – Protein has a higher thermic effect compared to other macronutrients. This means your body expends more energy to process protein. While not all sources agree on the exact numbers, it’s clear that protein has a thermic effect of 20-30%, compared to carbohydrates

Dentures are a good replacement option for patients who are missing all of their teeth, but only if they fit well. What Makes Dentures Loose?
Impact on the bone by continuous hitting of a denture against the jaw every time you eat can make
the bone underneath the denture go away. This causes the denture to become loose and slip. It may create the need for using paste or other means to hold the denture in place. Slipping dentures can make eating certain foods very difficult for patients.
How Can Dentures Fit Well For A Long Time?
Dental implants can be placed un-
der the denture. Implants have offered the possibility of fully replacing teeth for over 30 years and are very safe and effective. When you make the denture stable by “snapping” it onto dental implants, you can provide a better level of comfort for the denture-wearer, and create new strength for eating the foods patients love.
Dental implants are very much

like your natural teeth. They are quite easy to get used to, and they can reduce the amount of stress to the bone and jaw by helping provide an anchor for support. The implant acts as a natural root to help prevent additional bone deterioration and helps to deliver long lasting function.
Does Every Denture-Wearer Qualify?
This depends on the amount of bone loss that has already taken place. If the denture has been in place for many years and the ridge of bone under it is very thin, you may need to have a special scan done to decide if you are a candidate for the procedure. This scan will also look for any other defects that may be present to make sure you are healthy.
Since implants are meant to last for a very long time, your health and wellness are important to the outcome.
How Long Does a Patient Have To Go Without Teeth?
Never. The denture is fitted to the implants, the same day the implants are placed. Typically, you are back to normal or better eating by day two or three.
Do Dental Implants Hurt?
Most patients have little to no discomfort. The surgery is done in one day, typically in about two hours. There are sedation options available for this procedure for those patients who want to relax through the procedure.
Is Treatment Expensive?
The cost of treatment varies depending on the number of implants, if a new denture needs to be made, if the patient desires sedation, or if there needs to be more bone added to have a good result. Costs are variable and should be weighed against factors such the education of the doctor, the results from other patient experiences, and the quality of the product you are receiving.

Good nutrition is one of the most important foundations for healthy aging. As we get older, our bodies have different needs—yet many seniors struggle to maintain a balanced diet due to reduced appetite, difficulty cooking, or health challenges. Caregivers play a vital role in helping older adults stay nourished, energized, and well.
1. Understand Changing Nutritional Needs
Aging often brings a slower metabolism, reduced muscle mass, and changes in digestion. Seniors typi-
cally need fewer calories than in their younger years, but the quality of those calories becomes even more important. Nutrient-dense foods—rich in vitamins, minerals, and protein—help support energy, immunity, and healing.
2. Focus on Key Nutrients
Certain nutrients are especially important for older adults:
• Protein for maintaining muscle and strength (lean meats, fish, eggs, beans).
• Calcium and Vitamin D for bone health (dairy, fortified plant milks, leafy greens).
• Fiber for digestion and heart health (whole grains, fruits, vegetables).
• Healthy fats for brain and heart health (avocados, olive oil, nuts).
3. Address Appetite and Chewing Challenges
Some seniors lose interest in food or have difficulty chewing and swallowing. Caregivers can offer softer options like scrambled eggs, yogurt, cooked vegetables, or smoothies—ensuring meals are still

For individuals who have lost several teeth due to injury, decay, or disease, multiple dental implants offer a long-lasting and effective solution to restore both function and aesthetics. Unlike traditional dentures or bridges, dental implants are designed to mimic the structure of natural teeth, providing stability, comfort, and a natural look. Multiple dental implants involve placing two or more titanium posts directly into the jawbone to serve as artificial tooth roots. These implants support custom-made crowns, bridges, or even full arches of replacement
teeth. Over time, the implants fuse with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration, creating a strong and permanent foundation.
Dental implants offer numerous advantages over other tooth replacement options:
• Stability & Strength: Implants provide a secure base for chewing and speaking without the slipping or discomfort of removable dentures.
• Bone Preservation: Implants stimulate the jawbone and help prevent bone loss, which can occur when teeth are missing.
• Natural Appearance: Custom

If you believe that you or your child could potentially benefit from orthodontic treatment, the first step would be to schedule an appointment for a consultation with an orthodontist. Orthodontists are simply dentists who have received an extra 2-3 years of specialized education beyond dental school to learn the proper way to straighten teeth and correct bite
problems.
Children, teenagers, young adults, middle-aged men and women as well as seniors are taking advantage of the simplicity that distinguishes today’s orthodontics.
Although many patients are referred by their family dentist, you can still make an appointment without a referral from your dentist. During this first consultation appointment the doctor will conduct a thorough examination of teeth, bite, TMJ and facial soft tissue. This information is used to

outline the problems that are present.
The doctor also presents you with a tentative treatment plan, an estimate of the length of treatment and any alternative treatment options such as Invisalign. If you have any further questions or concerns they may also be discussed at this appointment.
When all your questions have been answered a treatment coordinator will cover payment plans, insurance matters, and appointment scheduling. Some patients (especially kids) are not ready for treatment when examined. In those cases, the patients are placed on a recall program (observation) and the family is sent a reminder in the future to come back for an orthodontic re-evaluation.
If treatment is recommended and you would like to get started, the next step is to schedule an appointment for full diagnostic records. Diagnostic records comprise photographs, radiographs, bite registration and models of your teeth. These records will give the doctor all the information needed to develop a detailed custom treatment plan that will give an optimal bite and smile for each patient.
Diagnostic records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move into their corrected positions. Mostly, records may be taken during the initial consultation appointment, if not you may choose to schedule a second appointment. Records appointments take about 2030 minutes.
After the final diagnosis and treatment plan are developed, you will be ready to begin your orthodontic treatment. If you are interested in learning more about braces, or about your specific orthodontic needs, call us to schedule a free consultation appointment.

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide (GLP-1) are compound medications used to assist with weight loss treatment. They have demonstrated their efficacy in reducing appetite and food intake through clinical trials. By activating brain receptors responsible for hunger and satiety, they induce a sensation of fullness and diminishes the desire to eat. Common brand names are: Mounjaro, Ozempic & Wegovy. In weight loss trials, individuals administered with semaglutide or tirzepatide medications experienced significant reductions in body weight
and BMI compared to those who received a placebo. This medication is injected once a week and complements a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
There have been several antiobesity medications that help to suppress appetite and achieve weight loss, but GLP-1 for weight loss performs on an whole new level. Early studies of 2000 adults compared people using this medication plus changes to their diet with people who made the same lifestyle changes without using the medication. After 48 weeks, half of the participants using GLP-1 lost 20% of their body weight and nearly a third lost 25%. Participants who only incorporated lifestyle changes lost about 2.4% of their body weight. Micro-dosing of this medication has also show to be very effective in helping to lose weight and tone the body. Micro-dosing is taking GLP1 in smaller doses than what would be normally prescribed for standard care. This solution is for the person who wants to lose 5% to 8% of their body weight and tone specific areas of the body.

Your mouth is more than just teeth. It is a vital part of your overall health and well-being. Integrative dentistry recognizes this connection by combining traditional dental care with a holistic approach that considers your entire body. This method goes beyond treating symptoms and
focuses instead on understanding how your oral health impacts and is impacted by your overall wellness.
Why
Oral health is closely linked to systemic health. Conditions like gum disease have been associated with heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory issues. Integrative dentistry addresses these links by evaluating your dental health in the broader context of your body’s systems. This comprehensive perspective allows for more personalized care that supports both your mouth and your overall health.
In addition, integrative dentistry emphasizes safe biocompatible materials and minimally invasive techniques. For example, it considers alternatives to traditional mercury fillings and uses advanced diagnos

Children with healthy teeth are more likely to grow into adults with healthy smiles. Your child’s diet not only affects their overall health, but
their oral health as well.
Foods and drinks that contain sugars of any type can contribute to tooth decay. Most items found in your local grocery store will contain nutrition facts and sugar contents on the label. Many of your child’s favorite items may have a low sugar alternative.
Introducing yogurt, cheese or other milk products with meals or as a snack can be a great alternative to carbohydrates.
Food and drink items containing dairy can help increase pH levels in the oral cavity, which can help decrease the acids produced by cavity causing bacteria. The Calcium and vitamin D available in dairy products can also aid in enamel protection.
Fruits and vegetables, such as strawberries and apples, that contain vitamin C can strengthen gum tissue and can act as a natural plaque removing abrasive when extensive chewing is required.
If possible, regulate the amount of sticky sugary foods and candies your child consumes such as taffies, caramels, raisins and gummies. These items get stuck in the grooves of your teeth and may sit there until brushed out.
Sugary food items are better served with meals than as a snack in between meals. This allows for the increased saliva needed for digestion to help rinse these sugars away.
The action of chewing gum containing xylitol can also increase salivary flow and can be a natural abrasive to naturally rinse away food particles.
Juices with high sugar contents should also be limited for four to six ounces per day. Try diluting your child’s juice to decrease the sugar content.
Although sodas and juices that are high in sugar should be limited, introducing water in the oral cavity can help to neutralize the pH and decrease the harmful effects. Water is also the liquid of choice for babies at bedtime instead of milk, formula, juice, or soda.
It is important for infants and children to start an oral care routine twice a day, as well as attend their regular six-month dental checkups. These habits, along with a healthy diet, can help lead your child to a lifetime of good oral health.

Hair loss can be a very emotional part of the natural aging process, and seeking ways to curb this process is a challenge. There are many products on the market that claim to re-grow hair, but the results are mixed. Some work for some people, and for others, not so well.
Surgically transplanting hair has come a long way over the past decade - to the point where follicular unit grafting (FUG) is now more widely accepted. It’s not like the old-style plugs people used to get.
These grafts are indistinguishable from your natural hair and are probably more durable than your natural hair in the long run.
While your natural hair still present on the top and front of your scalp may continue to thin or fall out, the grafted hairs from the sides and back of your head are more likely to be there permanently.
The latest procedure for hair transplantation is follicular unit extraction (FUE), where each hair is harvested and individually placed in a new location on your scalp. By doing this there are no scars to deal with, and the procedure is more tolerable and may even be a little safer.
One of the first FUE devices to be cleared by the FDA for follicular unit harvesting and implantation is the NeoGraft® system, which delivers automation of the FUE technique, the most advanced technique in the hair transplant industry.
This system uses pneumatic controls to precisely extract complete individual hair follicles, which can be immediately transplanted to the selected areas of the scalp. This automated hair transplantation system is the only complete harvesting system on the market and has the only “no touch” implantation technology.
It provides exact harvesting and placement, delivering natural looking results. This advanced technology offers a discrete solution to hair loss, allowing patients to achieve natural looking results with no linear scarring, minimal downtime, and a shorter
recovery period. Hair restoration with NeoGraft is unnoticeable, making it your secret to tell.
How the Procedure Works:
Step One: Donor Hair Removal
The procedure begins with hair being removed from the donor area in the back of your head where your hair is genetically programmed to resist testosterone.
Step Two: Separation of the
Each graft is extracted with the same consistency in diameter and length, resulting in a dramatically increased take rate.
Step Three: Creation of the Recipient Sites
Step Four: Placement of the Hair Graft
The follicular units are then carefully separated by size. Grafts are transplanted into the balding and thinning areas of your scalp. Each graft is meticulously harvested as it naturally occurs and implanted individually to ensure the best results.
The hair transplant surgeon creates recipient sites in the proper angle, direction and orientation according to the artistic hair transplant plan he or she has designed specifically for you.
Virginia Hair Transplant is excited to announce our newest offering, NeoGraft®. NeoGraft® introduces the “state-of-the-art” solution for hair loss. This game changing technology automates the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method to give patients more natural looking results with minimal downtime, no linear scaring and no stitches.
• It is the least invasive procedure for hair transplantation
• Patients who receive NeoGraft® feel little to no discomfort
• No stitches or staples are used in the NeoGraft® procedure
• No unsightly linear scar
• No numbness where the donor hair is harvested
• Quick recovery time
• Natural looking results
• Less restrictions on your normal daily activities
• Patients can typically go back to work the next day
• Flexibility for any hair style of your choice, short or long

One significant aspect of Medicare’s coverage for dental services, is the inclusion of certain surgical procedures related to systemic conditions. This means that if an oral issue, such as an infection below the gum
line, is contributing to or exacerbating a systemic health condition, Medicare may cover the necessary treatment. For instance, if an untreated dental infection is causing complications for someone with diabetes or cancer, Medicare may provide coverage for the dental services needed to address
the infection, thereby helping to manage the individual’s overall health. It’s important to note that while Medicare’s coverage for dental services has expanded, it still has limitations. Coverage for surgical procedures below the gum line typically falls under Medicare Part A (hospital insurance)
or Part B (medical insurance). However, coverage may vary depending on factors such as the specific procedure needed, the individual’s health condition, and whether the treatment is deemed medically necessary. Additionally, Medicare Advantage plans may offer more comprehensive dental coverage compared to traditional Medicare plans.
For seniors and individuals with disabilities, understanding Medicare’s coverage for oral health is crucial for accessing necessary treatment. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings can help prevent issues below the gum line, but if problems do arise, knowing what Medicare will cover can alleviate financial concerns and ensure timely treatment.
To maximize Medicare benefits for dental service, individuals should stay informed about their coverage options, including any updates or changes to Medicare policies regarding oral health care. Additionally, discussing dental concerns with healthcare providers and exploring supplemental dental insurance plans can help fill any gaps in coverage and ensure comprehensive care.
In conclusion, Medicare now provides coverage for certain dental services addressing issues below the gum line, such as infections, cysts and fractures, recognizing the significant impact of oral health on overall wellbeing. By understanding Medicare’s coverage options and staying proactive about dental care, seniors and individuals with disabilities can better manage their dental health and overall quality of life.

Pediatric Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD) and OSA Symptoms
Children with SRDB may present a range of symptoms, including:
• Difficulty falling or staying asleep
• Sleepwalking, night terrors
• Excessive daytime sleepiness
• Mouth breathing, dry lips, bad breath
• Dark circles under the eyes
• Tonsil and adenoid problems
• Snoring, teeth grinding
• Inner ear infections
• Limited tongue/lip mobility
• Hyperactivity, difficulty concentrating
• Selective eating habits
• Bedwetting
In the case of pediatric OSA, symptoms may involve snoring, breathing pauses, restlessness, and coughing or choking episodes during sleep.
Dentist’s Role
Contrary to conventional belief, pediatric dentists with specialized training are well-equipped to ad -
dress symptoms related to sleep and airway conditions. The airway, mode of breathing, and malocclusion are closely interconnected and should be addressed early and holistically by dentists. Advanced technology, such as cone beam 3D imaging, allows dentists to effectively diagnose airway issues and guide proper growth and development. Early intervention is essential in guiding proper growth and development.
Convenient at-home sleep study tests are now available to diagnose pediatric sleep apnea and breathing issues. These tests provide comprehensive, accurate data for proper diagnoses.
Treatment goals encompass the elimination of detrimental habits, guiding optimal cranial, jaw, and facial development, preventing dental misalignment, and enhancing airway health and oxygen sufficiency. Various therapies, including oral appliances, myofunctional therapy and positive airway pressure therapy, can effectively alleviate symptoms.
(5-10%) and fat (0-3%). For example, when you eat 100 calories from protein, your body burns 20-30% of those calories just processing the protein.
4. Muscle Building – Protein plays a key role in muscle growth and repair, helping you maintain muscle mass while losing weight. Muscle tissue accounts for around 25% of your resting metabolic rate. Combining protein intake with resistance training can help prevent muscle loss, which is a common issue for people who lose weight. Maintaining muscle mass keeps your metabolism high and lowers the chances of regaining weight.
How Much Protein Is Optimal?
The recommended daily intake of protein is 46 grams for adult women and 56 grams for adult men, which is sufficient to prevent deficiency.
From page 12
However, individuals aiming to lose weight may require more.
Many experts recommend that protein should make up 30% of your daily caloric intake for weight loss. Alternatively, you can calculate your protein needs based on body weight, aiming for 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass (or 1.5 to 2.2 grams per kilogram). Athletes and individuals with specific fitness goals may need higher protein levels. Is a High-Protein Diet Right for Me?
A high-protein diet may not be suitable for everyone. For instance, individuals with chronic kidney disease should be cautious, as a high-protein diet could worsen kidney function. Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting a high-protein diet.
cost of bridges and dentures, but it’s important to consider the lifetime costs of each tooth replacement option. With proper care, your implant will last your entire life, while bridges and dentures may need to be replaced several times.
Dental implants offer several benefits that other replacement options don’t, including:
No Jawbone Loss – Your teeth roots constantly stimulate your jawbone and keep it strong. When you lose
restorations blend seamlessly with existing teeth, restoring a beautiful and confident smile.
• Durability: With proper care, implants can last decades — often a lifetime.
• Improved Oral Health: Unlike bridges, implants don’t require grinding down adjacent teeth, preserving more of your natural tooth structure.
Am I a Candidate For Multiple Dental Implants?
Most healthy adults with sufficient jawbone density and good oral hygiene are candidates for implants. Smokers, individuals with uncontrolled chronic diseases, or those with significant bone loss may require additional treatments or evaluation. A consultation with a qualified implant dentist will determine the best approach for your specific needs.
The treatment process typically involves several stages, including:
1. Evaluation and Planning: Dental imaging and a full exam to assess bone health and develop a custom treatment plan.
2. Implant Placement: Titanium posts are surgically inserted into the jawbone.
3. Healing Period: A few months are required for the bone to integrate with the implants.
4. Final Restoration: Custom crowns or bridges are attached to the implants for a complete and natural smile.
Multiple dental implants can dramatically improve quality of life by restoring chewing function, facial structure, and self-confidence. If you’re missing multiple teeth, talk to your dentist about whether implants are the right solution for you.
appealing and varied. Seasoning with herbs and spices can help when taste buds are less sensitive.
4. Encourage Hydration
Older adults are more prone to dehydration because they may not feel as thirsty. Caregivers should encourage regular fluid intake—water, herbal teas, broths, or water-rich foods like melon and cucumbers. Keeping drinks within easy reach throughout the day helps make hydration a habit.
5. Make Meals Enjoyable
Mealtime is about more than nutrition—it’s also about connection. Eating together, engaging in conversation, and creating a pleasant dining

environment can improve both appetite and mood.
6. Plan Ahead for Success
Meal planning helps ensure variety and balanced nutrition. Caregivers can prep ingredients in advance, stock healthy snacks, and keep quick, wholesome options available for busy days. For family members, it’s important to remember you don’t have to handle nutrition alone. If meal preparation, grocery shopping, or dietary monitoring becomes overwhelming, professional home care services are available to provide personalized support—helping your loved one stay healthy, well-nourished, and happy at home.

a tooth, the bone underneath begins to recede. Since dental implants take the place of your roots, you don’t have to worry about jawbone loss.
Better Chewing – If you choose dentures to replace lost teeth, you may not be able to eat certain hard foods. Eating isn’t a problem with dental implants.
Easy Care – You’ll care for your implants the same way you do your natural teeth. Infections are rare if you practice good oral hygiene.
Choosing integrative dentistry means partnering with a dental team that listens carefully to your health history, lifestyle, and concerns. The goal is to tailor treatment plans that not only fix dental issues but also promote healing and prevent future problems.
This approach often involves collaboration with other health professionals, such as nutritionists or physicians, to ensure that your dental care supports your full-body health. It also includes education on how diet, sleep, and habits affect your oral condition.

By focusing on prevention, early detection, and gentle care, integrative dentistry can help reduce inflammation, improve immune function, and enhance your quality of life. It is a patient-centered philosophy designed to create lasting health, not just quick fixes.
Integrative dentistry means looking beyond your teeth to care for your whole health. It is a guiding principle in everything we do. Using advanced diagnostic tools and a personalized approach, we work with you to understand how your oral health fits into your overall wellness. Whether treating chronic conditions or providing routine care, our focus is on safe, effective treatments that support your long-term health goals.
