Many of us have heard the saying “your eyes are the window to your health”. This is true because many health conditions are first detected in the Retina (the retina captures the light that enters your eye and helps translate it into the images you see).
It is well known that diabetes and high blood pressure can damage blood vessels, which then causes damage to your retina. Inflammatory conditions can also cause damage. Eye injuries can damage your retina and the macula.
Why Is Retinal Screening Important and Is It Worth It?
Signs of high blood pressure or hypertension, diabetes, brain tumors, and some forms of cancer are first evident in the retina. This is well before other signs appear throughout the body. Detecting such health issues early is vital in treating them. Finding retinal disorders as early as possible is critical to potentially preventing serious disease progression and even vision loss. In addition
to helping detect diseases early, retinal images provide a permanent and historical record of changes in your eye. With today’s electronic medical records applications, these images can be compared side-by-side, year after year, to discover even subtle changes and help monitor your health.
While dilation still constitutes a complete eye exam, retinal imaging for screening or to follow diseases, provides a complete picture of not only your eye health but also your health in general.
How Often Should You Have a Dilated Retinal Exam?
Retina exams are part of any comprehensive eye exam no matter what your age. But unless you need glasses or have other eye conditions, you may not be seeing an eye doctor regularly. If you don’t, you should start getting eye exams at least every 2-4 years. While screening retinal imaging is not covered by insurance, it will be covered if following a known retinal disease.

Your Health Magazine is on a mission. There are far too many people, insured or not, who do not go to the doctor when they should, and in millions of cases, don’t know who they should go to, or why.
People are encouraged to buy a new house, car, cell phone or big screen TV, and those companies make themselves very visible and their products easily attainable.
Information about, and from, local healthcare providers is not easy to find, and many times those services are difficult to access.
Information and encouragement always lowers fear and trepidation about anything, and this is especially true in healthcare. While general information is available on web-sites, specific information from local providers is almost impossible for people to find. This is one of the key reasons chronic and episodic conditions are not cared for. It is our mission to:
Make A Difference By Empowering and Encouraging People To Live Healthier By Going To the Doctor When They Should.
There is a lot of evidence that the health professionals who participate in Your Health Magazine have helped many people over the years. We at Your Health Magazine salute you!

Dental health is an integral part of overall well-being, impacting not only our smiles but also our general health and quality of life. Over the past year, several key topics have emerged as essential areas of focus in dental care. From orthodontic treatment to the surprising links between oral health and other bodily systems, these insights emphasize the importance of comprehensive dental care.
One significant area of emphasis has been the impact of airway and breathing on growth, development, and overall quality of life. Addressing airway issues early can prevent complications in jaw development and improve sleep quality. This concept extends to orthodontic care, where non-extraction treatments can align teeth without the need for invasive procedures. By focusing on maintaining natural dental structures, these treatments aim to optimize both function and appearance.
Another area of focus has been the importance of early intervention in orthodontics, particularly for children aged 8-10. Early treatment can correct developmental issues before they become more severe, setting the stage for healthier adult teeth and preventing more extensive interventions later in life.
Oral health has also been closely linked to systemic health, with studies highlighting connections between oral health, gut health, and brain function. Maintaining good dental hygiene can positively influence gut microbiota and cognitive health, underscoring the interconnectedness of bodily systems.
For those who experience dental anxiety, strategies such as relaxation
techniques and compassionate communication can make dental visits more manageable. Education and reassurance play vital roles in helping patients overcome fears and maintain regular appointments, which are crucial for long-term dental health.
The role of clinical assistants in ensuring high-quality patient care was also discussed, highlighting their critical role in supporting both
dentists and patients during various procedures. Their expertise contributes to smoother procedures and better patient outcomes.
Lastly, as individuals age, maintaining oral health becomes increasingly important in preserving quality of life. Comprehensive dental care for older adults includes not only aesthetic considerations but also functional treatments to ensure proper
chewing and overall comfort.
Let’s Smile Dental offers comprehensive dental care under one roof, providing patients with convenience and continuity of care, ensuring that all aspects of dental health are addressed in a cohesive manner. If you have an extremely active child you may have seen one or two falls in their day. Although it is true that active kids and teens are more prone to dental and other injuries, there are several precautions that can be taken to prevent or manage these occurrences.
Infants should not run with a bottle, sippy cup or other objects in their mouth. Children should be discouraged from climbing or jumping from high surfaces such as a tabletop or bed in the home and definitely not left unattended.
Getting your baby or toddler to eat can sometimes be a challenge. If food
is forced into the mouth with a bottle or spoon it is possible to cause damage to the soft developing oral tissues in the mouth. Foods with pointy surfaces such as chips can also cause injury to these tissues if not chewed carefully.
For older children, mouth guards should be worn while participating in sports. These can be picked up at your local drug store or your dentist
can make a custom fit mouth guard. Kids should wear a helmet during active sports such as football, or highspeed activities such as skateboarding or bike riding.
Children and adults should be careful wearing socks without grips on hardwood floor as these surfaces can often be slippery and lack of traction can cause a possible injury.
Dizziness, vomiting, bleeding from the nose or ears, lapse of memory, disorientation, or signs of fatigue may be an indication that a concussion has occurred. Patients with significant head, neck or facial trauma should be immediately taken to the emergency room to be evaluated.
If your child has extensive bleeding to the lip, gums or cheek area use gauze or a paper towel to apply pressure until the bleeding stops. A cold compress or ice cubes can be placed on the affected area to reduce swelling and relieve pain in some cases.
If a tooth is fractured, check to see if blood is coming from the inside of the tooth. This may indicate nerve exposure and you will need to see your dentist as soon as possible. If a permanent tooth is completely knocked out it should be re-implanted within one hour.
If possible rinse off the tooth with clean water or milk and place it back into the socket. Make sure you only touch the crown (visible part) of the tooth and not the root. If you are unable to re-implant due to pain or blockage store the tooth in milk or cheeks and bring it to the dental office as soon as possible. Your local dentist should evaluate dental injury without significant head or neck trauma. Make sure your child has a dental home that facilitates easy evaluations during a potentially difficult and traumatic time for you and your child.

In the world of TMD (temporomandibular disorder), there are many ways to treat the problem, but it must always begin with a good diagnosis. First and foremost are an MRI and CBCT x-ray of the joints and surrounding areas. The MRI is a magnetic imaging device that looks directly at the discs in the jaw joints. This high-
tech machine looks inside the joints and produces soft tissue images to help with your diagnosis. The CBCT is the x-ray machine that uses low-dose radiation to look at the bones inside the skull, the cervical spine, the teeth, and the condyles. These tools are what we use to come up with a diagnosis and then a plan to help you get better.
In many cases, the ALF wire is a really great device to help in so many ways. It will help position the tongue
to the roof of the mouth, which helps with better nasal breathing. It also promotes better swallowing. With good tongue positioning and better swallowing, you will breathe better as time goes by. This is one reason the ALF is very helpful.
Another appliance called the Gelb is an orthotic device that makes sure the condyle (hard bone) does not bang into the soft tissue disc. This appliance is helpful for so many people as it
Dr. Jeffrey Brown has limited his practice to focus only on TMJ Disorders, Craniofacial Pain Management and Sleep Apnea. By fixing slipped discs in the jaw joints, Dr. Brown can significantly reduce the pain patients experience in the head/neck region and other symptoms associated with jaw joint problems. Sleep & TMJ Therapy may be able to improve the quality of life for you or a loved one – we encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns.
“Dr. Brown and his staff are absolutely wonderful. I was diagnosed with Dystonia. I could not turn my head and had a ton of pain. My doctors offered no help and no advice besides Meds and Botox. Since having the appliance I have NO pain and I can turn my head. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I feel Dr. Brown and his staff really care about their patients and helping them to get better. They do not just numb the symptoms but fix the problem. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I feel like the old me again!”
- D. Thomas
“My daughter has been treated by Dr. Stack and Dr. Brown for the last 2 1/2 years, and we are very fortunate to have found them. Prior to that she was being treated by a neurologist at a Children’s hospital. She was on medications for tics and associated muscle pain, OCD/repetitive thoughts, sleeplessness and more (all possibly associated with Tourettes). Drs. Stack and Brown installed spacers to alleviate pressure on nerve bundles in the jaw, and subsequently braces to complete the process. Her symptoms have diminished significantly. She is off medication, her tics have all but disappeared, she can concentrate better in school, and she is once again cheerful and relaxed.”

helps avoid the need for TMJ surgery in many cases. The idea is that you wear the Gelb for a year, maybe more, to give the discs a chance to get back into the proper position. In almost all cases, pain is reduced, and the person also sleeps better.
One of the most interesting bits of technology we have is the Fotona laser. This is a nonsurgical laser that penetrates deep into the tissue to reduce pain and inflammation. It stimulates the regeneration of damaged tissue. This device has been amazingly successful with our patients who need some degree of relief right away. In addition, the laser has a specific protocol that helps to reduce fat in the tongue, along with lifting the palate area to improve symptoms from sleep apnea. This, too, is a nonsurgical procedure and fairly easy to do in almost all cases.
Of course, it should always be mentioned that you can use things like Botox and other injectables to mitigate pain, however, our office prefers to fix the actual problem, not just mask it over. Other techniques like arthrocentesis are available. This involves flushing the joints to remove toxins. It does not fix anything, but it likely buys a little more time for those who are not ready to treat the problems.

Technology has greatly improved over the past decades. There are more and more modalities of treatment offered. The ALF and Gelb are the timehonored, traditional approaches. This appliance therapy has been around since before the 70s. The fix takes time to implement, whereas the injectables are a quick source of pain relief. Ultimately, the patient will decide the technology for their health!

Dentures are a good replacement option for patients who are missing all of their teeth, but only if they fit well.
Why
Impact on the bone by continuous hitting and pressure of a denture against the jaw every time you eat can make the bone underneath the denture go away. This causes the denture to become loose and slip. It may create the need for using paste or other means to hold the denture in place. Slipping dentures can make eating certain foods very difficult for patients. This happens most often with lower dentures.
Dental implants can be placed under the denture. Implants have offered the possibility of fully replacing teeth for over 30 years and are very safe and effective. When you make the denture stable by “snapping” it onto dental implants, you can provide a better level of comfort for the denture-wearer, and create new strength for eating the foods patients love.
Dentures are a good replacement option for patients who are missing all of their teeth, but only if they fit well.
Dental implants are very much like your natural teeth. They are quite easy to get used to, and they can reduce the amount of stress to the bone and jaw by helping provide an anchor for support. The implant acts as a natural root to help prevent additional bone deterioration and helps to deliver long lasting function.
Does Every Denture-Wearer Qualify?
This depends on the amount of bone loss that has already taken place. If the denture has been in place for many years and the ridge of bone under it is very thin, you may need to have a special scan done to decide if you are a candidate for the procedure. This scan will also look for any other defects that may be present to make sure you are healthy. Since implants are meant to last for a very long time, your health and wellness are important to the outcome.
Never. The denture is fitted to the implants, the same day the implants are placed. Typically, you are back to normal or better eating by day two or three.
Most patients have little to no dis-
comfort. The surgery is done in one day, typically in just a few hours. There are sedation options available for this procedure for those patients who want to relax through the procedure.
The cost of treatment varies depending on the number of implants, if a new denture needs to be made, if the patient desires sedation, or if
there needs to be more bone added to have a good result. Costs are variable and should be weighed against factors such as the education of the doctor, the results from other patient experiences, and the quality of the product you are receiving.

Advancements in skincare technology have revolutionized the way we address common skin concerns, from sun damage and acne scars to unwanted hair. Here’s a closer look at four of the most effective skin rejuvenation technologies: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing, Laser Hair Removal, and Pixel Fractional Resurfacing.
1. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial
IPL photofacial is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-intensity pulses of light to target pigmentation, redness, and vascular lesions. Unlike traditional lasers that focus on a single wavelength of light, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths, allowing it to treat a range of skin issues simultaneously. The light energy penetrates the skin’s surface, targeting melanin and blood vessels without damaging surrounding tissue. This process stimulates collagen production, reduces hyperpigmentation, and diminishes fine lines. IPL is particularly effective for treating sun spots, freckles, rosacea, and broken capillaries.
2. Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing
Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is a more intensive treatment designed to correct deeper skin imperfections such as wrinkles, acne scars, and age spots. The CO2 laser creates microscopic channels in the skin, promoting the formation of new collagen and elastin.
This fractional approach targets only a fraction of the skin at a time, leaving surrounding tissue intact to accelerate healing. Recovery typically involves redness and peeling for several days, but the long-term benefits include smoother skin texture, improved tone, and reduced fine lines.
3. Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal offers a longlasting solution for unwanted hair on various parts of the body. This treatment uses concentrated beams of light to target the pigment in hair follicles, damaging them to inhibit future growth.
Multiple sessions are typically required to achieve optimal results, as hair grows in cycles. Laser hair removal is most effective on individu-
als with light skin and dark hair due to the contrast in pigment, but newer technologies have advanced to treat a broader range of skin tones safely.
4. Pixel Fractional Resurfacing
Pixel fractional resurfacing is a minimally invasive treatment that uses laser technology to create tiny perforations in the skin. Unlike traditional lasers that affect the entire surface, pixel lasers treat only a fraction of the skin, allowing for quicker recovery.
This technique stimulates the body’s natural healing response, promoting the development of new, healthy skin cells while minimizing the appearance of scars, fine lines, and enlarged pores. Pixel resurfacing is especially beneficial for those seeking a less aggressive alternative to full laser resurfacing.
Choosing the Right Treatment
Selecting the most appropriate skin rejuvenation treatment depends on various factors, including skin type,
the severity of the concern, and desired downtime. IPL is ideal for mild pigmentation and redness, while fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is better suited for deeper wrinkles and scars. Laser hair removal is effective for reducing unwanted hair, and pixel fractional resurfacing provides a gentler option for overall skin texture improvement.
Consulting with a qualified skincare specialist is essential to assess individual skin concerns and determine the most effective treatment plan.

Hair loss can be a very emotional part of the natural aging process, and seeking ways to curb this process is a
challenge. There are many products on the market that claim to re-grow hair, but the results are mixed. Some work for some people, and for others, not so well.
Surgically transplanting hair has come a long way over the past decade - to the point where follicular unit grafting (FUG) is now more widely accepted. It’s not like the old-style plugs people used to get.
These grafts are indistinguishable
from your natural hair and are probably more durable than your natural hair in the long run.
While your natural hair still present on the top and front of your scalp may continue to thin or fall out, the grafted hairs from the sides and back of your head are more likely to be there permanently.
The latest procedure for hair transplantation is follicular unit ex -
Virginia Hair Transplant is excited to announce our newest offering, NeoGraft®. NeoGraft® introduces the “state-of-the-art” solution for hair loss. This game changing technology automates the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method to give patients more natural looking results with minimal downtime, no linear scaring and no stitches.
• It is the least invasive procedure for hair transplantation
• Patients who receive NeoGraft® feel little to no discomfort
• No stitches or staples are used in the NeoGraft® procedure
• No unsightly linear scar
• No numbness where the donor hair is harvested
• Quick recovery time
• Natural looking results
• Less restrictions on your normal daily activities
• Patients can typically go back to work the next day
• Flexibility for any hair style of your choice, short or long

traction (FUE), where each hair is harvested and individually placed in a new location on your scalp. By doing this there are no scars to deal with, and the procedure is more tolerable and may even be a little safer.
One of the first FUE devices to be cleared by the FDA for follicular unit harvesting and implantation is the NeoGraft® system, which delivers automation of the FUE technique, the most advanced technique in the hair transplant industry.
This system uses pneumatic controls to precisely extract complete individual hair follicles, which can be immediately transplanted to the selected areas of the scalp. This automated hair transplantation system is the only complete harvesting system on the market and has the only “no touch” implantation technology.
It provides exact harvesting and placement, delivering natural looking results. This advanced technology offers a discrete solution to hair loss, allowing patients to achieve natural looking results with no linear scarring, minimal downtime, and a shorter recovery period. Hair restoration with NeoGraft is unnoticeable, making it your secret to tell.
How the Procedure Works: Step One: Donor Hair Removal
The procedure begins with hair being removed from the donor area in the back of your head where your hair is genetically programmed to resist testosterone.
Step Two: Separation of the Follicular Units
Each graft is extracted with the same consistency in diameter and length, resulting in a dramatically increased take rate.
Step Three: Creation of the Recipient Sites
The hair transplant surgeon creates recipient sites in the proper angle, direction and orientation according to the artistic hair transplant plan he or she has designed specifically for you.
Step Four: Placement of the Hair Graft
The follicular units are then carefully separated by size. Grafts are transplanted into the balding and thinning areas of your scalp. Each graft is meticulously harvested as it naturally occurs and implanted individually to ensure the best results.

Malocclusion is the number one reason people seek orthodontic treatment. There are many different forms of malocclusion, such as:
• Crowding: Crowding can cause poor jaw alignment, impacted teeth, or teeth growing behind or in front of one another, resulting in poor biting relationships and undesirable appearance. Crowding only gets worse over time. Crowded teeth are harder to clean then straight teeth, which may lead to cavities and tooth decay.
• Overjet Or Protruding Upper Teeth: When the upper front teeth stick out too far forward, or the lower teeth don’t extend enough this is called protrusion. Thumb and finger sucking habits can also cause a protrusion of the upper front teeth. Significant dental protrusion can cause speech and chewing problems and can be unsightly.
• Deep Overbite: A deep overbite or deep bite occurs when the lower incisor (front) teeth bite too close or into the gum tissue behind the upper teeth. A deep bite can contribute to excessive wear of the incisor teeth,
bone and gum tissue damage.
• Open Bite: An open bite results when the upper and lower incisor teeth do not touch when biting down. This open space causes all the chewing pressure to be placed on the back teeth. This excessive biting pressure and rubbing together of the back teeth makes chewing less efficient which can lead to digestive problems and significant tooth wear.
• Spacing: Spacing is too much room between the teeth. Spacing can occur if teeth are missing, small, or if the dental arches are wide. The most common complaint from patients with excessive spacing is cosmetic. Closure of dental spacing not only improves the look of the front teeth but it also prevents “food traps” from developing between the back teeth.
• Crossbite: A crossbite exists when the upper teeth in the back are fitting on the inside of the lower teeth. This is often caused by the upper jaw being too narrow. Correction of this situation is important at a young age so that the upper jaw continues to grow properly. Expanders are usually used to correct this, and give excellent results.
• Underbite Or Lower Jaw Protrusion: An underbite exists when the top front teeth are hitting behind the bottom front teeth. Underbites are best treated at a young age so that the upper jaw continues to grow properly.
Orthodontic treatment is a viable option to correct these malocclusions. If you think, you or your child has developed any of these bite problems, now is the time to start looking for orthodontists.

The Future Of Dentistry Is Already Here
Advancements in dental technology are reshaping the patient experience—from diagnosis to treatment and recovery. Today’s dental offices look very different from those of the past. With tools like digital x-rays, 3D imaging, and advanced lasers, care has become more precise, more efficient, and far more comfortable. These innovations help dental professionals provide higher-quality care while
making each visit easier for patients.
One of the most significant changes in modern dentistry is the shift from traditional x-rays to digital imaging. Digital x-rays use less radiation and deliver clear, detailed images in seconds. For more complex cases, 3D cone beam imaging offers a comprehensive view of the teeth, jaw, and airway. This level of detail is particularly valuable when planning procedures like dental implants, evaluating orthodontic needs, or diagnosing conditions such as TMJ disorders. These tools support more accurate assessments and more effective treatment planning.
Comfort-Focused Tools: Lasers and “The Wand”
Patient comfort continues to be a priority in dental care. Technologies like “The Wand,” which delivers local anesthesia in a controlled and gentle way, have made common procedures

achieving the sculpted body you desire. Unlike traditional liposuction, which focuses on specific areas, 360 liposuction provides a comprehensive, full-body contouring approach to enhance your natural shape from every angle.
What Is 360 Liposuction?
360 liposuction, also known as Lipo 360, is an advanced body
contouring procedure that targets multiple areas of the midsection, including the:
• Abdomen
• Flanks (love handles)
• Lower back
• Upper back
• Waistline
By addressing fat deposits
around the entire torso, this technique creates a more balanced, 360-degree transformation, enhancing the natural curves of the body.
How Does 360 Liposuction Work?
The procedure uses advanced liposuction techniques to gently remove excess fat while sculpting a smoother, more contoured appearance. Depending on your needs, your provider may use:
• Tumescent liposuction (a minimally invasive approach using local anesthesia)
• Laser-assisted liposuction (to help tighten the skin)
• Power-assisted liposuction (for more precise fat removal)
Since 360 liposuction treats multiple areas at once, it creates a dramatic yet natural-looking transformation.
Who Is a Good Candidate For 360 Liposuction?
Ideal candidates for 360 liposuction include individuals who:
• Have stubborn fat deposits that don’t respond to diet and exercise
• Are close to their ideal weight but want better definition
• Have good skin elasticity to ensure smooth contouring
• Want a more sculpted waistline, flatter stomach, and toned back It is not a weight-loss procedure but rather a body sculpting method for those seeking enhanced curves and definition.
Recovery and Results
Recovery from 360 liposuction is typically quicker than traditional liposuction because modern techniques are less invasive. Patients can expect:
• Mild swelling and bruising for the first few weeks
• Compression garments to help shape the body and reduce swelling
• Visible results within a few weeks, with final results appearing after 3-6 months Most patients return to work within a week, depending on the extent of the procedure.

Endodontics is the dental specialty that deals with tissues and structures located inside the tooth. One of the most common endodontic treatments is root canal therapy, a procedure which effectively eases the pain associated with a bacterial infection deep within the pulp of the tooth. Of course, root canal treatment doesn’t just relieve pain – it also stops the infection by removing dead and dying tissue from the tooth’s pulp. Plus, it helps to save the tooth, which is in
danger of being lost if left untreated. What’s inside your teeth? Behind the tough, shiny enamel of the tooth’s visible crown lies the sturdy inner tissue called dentin. Dentin is also found behind the cementum that forms the outer layer of the tooth’s roots – in fact, it makes up the bulk of the tooth’s structure. Similar in many ways to bone tissue, dentin is composed of many tiny tubules, which can transmit sensations to nerve cells when it is stimulated.
At the core of the tooth, inside small, branching chambers called the root canals, we find the soft pulp tissue. This consists of nerves, connective tissues and blood vessels, which extend into the center of the tooth and exit through canals near the apex (tip) of the tooth’s roots. When problems (such as infection and inflammation) develop in the pulp tissue, your first indication of trouble may be tooth sensitivity – or intense pain. In time, as the nerves die, the pain may go away…but the problem won’t. In fact,

Peptides have been produced and modified using both chemical and biological methods, together with novel design and delivery strategies. Peptides can often play vital roles in the human body such as hormones, growth factors, neurotransmitters, ion channel ligands, and anti-infectives. Generally, peptides are effective and selective signaling molecules that bind to specific cell surface receptors, triggering intracellular effects. Additionally, in clinical trials, peptides have shown exceptional safety and tolerability in study subjects,
while maintaining high selectivity and potency as well as predictable metabolism.
Current Applications and Future Directions
Therapeutic peptides are a unique class of pharmaceutical agents composed of a series of well-ordered amino acids. Research into therapeutic peptides started with fundamental studies of natural human hormones, including insulin, oxytocin, vasopressin, and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), and their specific physiological activities in the human body. With the introduction of AI, peptide drug development has entered a new era with advances in structural biology, recombinant biologics, and new synthetic and analytic technologies. The development of peptide drugs has thus become one of the hottest topics in pharmaceutical research.

During this age of the internet, space travel, medical miracles, GPS, and yes, smart phones, people still suffer with dentures and partial dentures. Other than the materials, the methods to make dentures have not changed since Wellington defeated Napoleon at Waterloo. Complete dentures are not your teeth.
Dental implants offer a superior solution to the above mentioned problems. The following will compare dental implants to dentures and partial dentures.
Dentures require a training period, implants do not. During the implant insertion appointment, you may receive a temporary bridge that will not come loose. When you get your permanent bridge, you will be able to eat, laugh, and talk just like normal.
Implants will not make your face look sunken in or change the shape of your face. In other words, you will not have the denture look. There is no such thing as an implant look. Many times, implants can improve the appearance over one’s own natural teeth. They can improve the shape, color, gaps and crookedness often looking much better than ever. Denture wearers and those with partially missing teeth usually have an improvement of their
facial appearance, much better than any plastic surgery.
Dental implants usually improve ones speech, because you do not have the movement or slippage that you get with dentures. So you don’t get the lisping, clicking or sucking sounds that you have with dentures.

4. Do You Have Bone Loss Where Teeth Were Pulled? 5. Do You Have Pain of Discomfort When Chewing?
They are a prosthesis made for appearance and very limited function. Complete dentures, at best, have no less than 30% mobility for the upper and the lower is worse and lifts up from the lower jaw by as much as 10 millimeters during eating. Partial dentures function a bit better, but they too move.
This movement acts to abrade teeth, slowly extract teeth and cause an increased rate of dental decay, due to the clasps acting as plaque traps. Both complete dentures and partial dentures destroy supporting bone. As for function, they are like wearing a pair of flip-flops in a foot race. They are basically for show and not for go.

All-on-Four: One Full Arch Of Teeth, Four Dental Implants
To fully understand this remarkable technique for replacing teeth, you should first understand what a dental implant is. An implant is a small titanium screw that fits inside your jawbone and replaces the root-part of a missing tooth. Minor surgery is required to insert the implants. Once the implant is in place, a crown is attached to give you a highly realistic-looking and functional prosthetic tooth.
Here’s where it gets really interesting: You do not need a dental implant for each and every one of your missing teeth. All you need is four precisely placed implants on the top of your mouth, and four on the bottom, to restore your full smile. That’s the beauty of the all-on-four. And because the implant is made of titanium, it has the unique ability to fuse to living bone and function as part of it. So eventually, the dental implant becomes part of the jawbone and serves as a strong, long-lasting foundation for your new teeth.
Besides ensuring that your implants are permanently fixed in place, this bone fusion has another important benefit: it prevents future bone loss in the jaw. This helps to maintain a more youthful facial structure – and better oral health. But perhaps the biggest surprise about the all-on-four is how quickly it can transform your life.
What’s The All-on-Four Dental Implant Procedure Like?
It can be scary to get implants for the first time. Most of that fear is probably due to the uncertainty, so here is the step-by-step process for getting an All-on-Four dental implant.
First, your dentist will want to make sure your comfortable, so either local or general anesthesia will be administered.
Second, the dentist or surgeon will prepare your mouth for the implants, which involves removing your remaining teeth that are failing. They will then remove any diseased or infected tissue from your jaw and gums.
Next, they will begin the implantation process. This means they will insert the titanium screws into your jawbone. Most likely, they will place two implants toward the front of your mouth and two towards the back of your mouth so the “anchors” can evenly bare the force of the denture.
After the implants have been placed, they will thoroughly clean the surgical sites and suturing all the incisions. Then you’ll be taken to a recovery room where you can relax and take time to wake up from the anesthesia.
Dr. Brown’s practice focuses on TMJ, sleep apnea and orthodontics. This allows Dr. Brown and his team to provide individualized, focused care for patients dealing with these specific issues. Every day, his practice helps patients of all ages with facial development, sleep issues, chronic headaches, migraines, neck pain, movement disorders, and much more. His training also includes multiple disciplines involving the cranial bones in the skull, and the discs in the jaw joints. Through treatment, Dr. Brown is able to reduce these symptoms, align cranial bones, avoid extractions, and greatly reduce the need for traditional braces. His expertise allows him to identify issues early on which promotes proper facial development using dental appliances. If there is an internal imbalance, whether an adult or child, the body does not develop or function properly. When the cranial bones are lined up correctly, patients are able to function, sleep and generally live better.
With that in mind, the team at Sleep & TMJ Therapy takes a whole-body approach when treatment planning. They work hand in hand with physical therapists and osteopathic doctors for a better success rate. Dr. Brown is devoted to helping patients of all ages live a symptom free life.

Proper breathing during sleep is crucial for the overall well-being of children, yet many parents may not be fully aware of potential issues related to Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD), which includes pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
SRBD refer to disturbances in normal breathing patterns during sleep, ranging from common snoring to more severe pauses in breathing
known as apnea events. These interruptions can lead to sleep deprivation and a variety of health complications. In the case of children, untreated SRDB can result in developmental, behavioral, and emotional challenges, potentially leading to conditions like allergies, ADD/ADHD, and depression.
Pediatric OSA, a condition where the airway is partially or completely blocked during sleep, is often caused by enlarged tonsils or adenoids and a lack of tongue space. It differs from adult OSA, as it may manifest alongside behavioral issues and daytime sleepiness in children.
During the first 18 months of a child’s life, crucial growth and developmental milestones occur, many of which are related to facial develop-

Credentialing is a critical component of healthcare, ensuring that only qualified professionals deliver medical care. It serves as the backbone of patient safety by verifying healthcare providers’ qualifications, training, and experience. However, as we move toward 2025, many organizations need to evaluate their credentialing processes to identify outdated practices that could present significant risks.
Submitted By MedPro - Medical Billing and Practice Solutions they increase the likelihood of employing unqualified personnel. This not only jeopardizes patient safety but can also lead to hefty financial repercussions and damage to a healthcare provider’s reputation.
The evolving regulations set for 2025 are designed to strengthen credentialing practices and ensure compliance with updated standards. To mitigate risks, healthcare providers must stay proactive in recognizing the limitations of their current processes and adapt to changes that support regulatory compliance.
Outdated credentialing processes can expose healthcare systems to various severe risks, from potential misdiagnoses to costly legal liabilities. When organizations rely on inefficient methods for vetting their providers,

In the realm of pediatric dental care, myths and misconceptions abound. Parents often find themselves navigating a sea of conflicting information when it comes to their child’s oral health. From the importance of baby teeth to the efficacy of fluoride, separating fact from fiction is crucial for maintaining optimal dental hygiene. This article will debunk some of the most common dental hygiene myths to help you
make informed decisions about your child’s dental care.
One prevalent myth is that baby teeth are not essential since they eventually fall out anyway. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Baby teeth play a crucial role in a child’s development, aiding in speech development, proper chewing, and maintaining space for permanent teeth. Neglecting baby teeth can lead to dental issues, such as misalignment and decay, which
may require costly interventions later.
There’s a misconception that fluoride is harmful, particularly for children. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens tooth enamel, making it more resistant to decay. Fluoridated water and toothpaste are proven to be safe and effective in preventing cavities. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends fluoride toothpaste for children as soon as their first tooth erupts.

Many people believe that applying excessive force while brushing will result in cleaner teeth. However, aggressive brushing can damage tooth enamel and irritate gums, leading to sensitivity and recession. Dentists recommend using a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle, circular motions to remove plaque effectively without causing harm to the teeth and gums.
While sugar certainly con
tributes to tooth decay, it’s not the sole culprit. Cavities develop when bacteria in the mouth feed on sugars and produce acids that erode tooth enamel. Starchy foods like chips and crackers can also fuel bacterial growth. Additionally, poor oral hygiene habits, such as infrequent brushing and flossing, can exacerbate the risk of cavities. A balanced diet, along with proper dental care, is key to preventing tooth decay.
Waiting until all permanent teeth have erupted before seeing a dentist is a common misconception. Children should have their first dental visit by the age of one or within six months of their first tooth eruption. Early dental checkups allow dentists to monitor oral development, provide guidance on proper oral hygiene practices, and detect any potential issues early on.
Dispelling dental hygiene myths is essential for promoting optimal oral health in children. By understanding the facts and debunking misconceptions, parents can make informed decisions about their child’s dental care. Remember, regular dental check-ups, proper oral hygiene habits, and a balanced diet are the cornerstones of a healthy smile that lasts a lifetime. Schedule a visit with your pediatric dentist today to ensure your child’s smile stays bright and healthy for years to come.

What you eat can significantly impact cognitive function, memory, and concentration – all essential for academic achievement and career success. Incorporating nutrient-rich foods into your diet can fuel your brain, enhance focus, and improve mental clarity. Here are some top brain-boosting foods to consider:
Fatty Fish:
Salmon, mackerel, and sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, par-
ticularly DHA and EPA. These essential fats are crucial for brain health as they help build cell membranes, reduce inflammation, and improve communication between brain cells. Studies suggest that regular consumption of omega-3s may enhance memory and reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
Blueberries:
Packed with antioxidants, blueberries protect the brain from oxidative stress and inflammation. Anthocyanins, the pigments that give blueberries their vibrant color, are
linked to improved memory and delayed brain aging. Snack on a handful or add them to smoothies for a nutrient-dense boost.
Dark Chocolate:
Dark chocolate, especially varieties with at least 70% cocoa, contains flavonoids, caffeine, and antioxidants. These compounds can improve blood flow to the brain, enhance cognitive function, and even boost mood. However, moderation is key – stick to small servings to avoid excess sugar and fat.
Leafy Greens:
Spinach, kale, and broccoli are loaded with vitamins and minerals like folate, vitamin K, and lutein. These nutrients support cognitive function, protect brain cells, and may help prevent dementia. Include leafy greens in salads, smoothies, or omelets for a nutrient-rich meal.
Nuts and Seeds:
Almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds, and chia seeds are excellent sources of vitamin E, antioxidants, and healthy fats. Vitamin E helps protect brain cells from oxidative damage, while omega-3s in walnuts and
flaxseeds support cognitive function. Sprinkle seeds over yogurt or add nuts to trail mix for a brain-boosting snack.
Whole grains such as oatmeal, quinoa, and brown rice provide a steady release of glucose, the brain’s primary fuel source. Complex carbohydrates keep blood sugar levels stable, preventing the energy crashes that can impair focus and productivity.
Eggs:
Eggs are rich in choline, a nutrient essential for memory and brain development. They also contain vitamins B6 and B12, which play a role in maintaining healthy nerve cells. Enjoy eggs scrambled, boiled, or as part of a breakfast sandwich for a brain-boosting start to your day.
Incorporating these foods into your diet can help improve focus, memory, and overall brain function, setting you up for academic and career success.
ment. Ensuring proper breathing is essential for a child’s health and development, impacting facial features, jaw development, and overall growth. Mouth breathing can set off a chain reaction of issues, altering the growth of the lower and upper jaws, midface, and nasal bones, ultimately affecting the child’s facial balance.
Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD) and OSA Symptoms
Children with SRDB may present a range of symptoms, including:
• Difficulty falling or staying asleep
• Sleepwalking, night terrors, and other parasomnias
• Excessive daytime sleepiness
• Mou th breathing, dry lips, bad breath
• Dark circles under the eyes
• Tonsil and adenoid problems
• Snoring
• Teeth grinding
• Bed-wetting
• Inner ear infections
• Limited tongue/lip mobility
• Hyperactivity
• Difficulty concentrating
• Selective eating habits
• Bedwetting
In the case of pediatric OSA, symptoms may involve snoring, breathing pauses, restlessness, and coughing or choking episodes during sleep.

Contrary to conventional belief, pediatric dentists with specialized training are well-equipped to address symptoms related to sleep and airway conditions. The airway, mode of breathing, and malocclusion are closely interconnected and should be addressed early and holistically by dentists. Advanced technology, such as cone beam 3D imaging, allows dentists to effectively diagnose airway issues and guide proper growth and development. Early intervention is essential in guiding proper growth and development.
Convenient at-home sleep study tests are now available to diagnose pediatric sleep apnea and breathing issues. These tests provide comprehensive, accurate data for proper diagnoses.
Treatment goals encompass the elimination of detrimental habits, guiding optimal cranial, jaw, and facial development, preventing dental misalignment, and enhancing airway health and oxygen sufficiency. Various therapies, including oral appliances, myofunctional therapy and positive airway pressure therapy, can effectively alleviate symptoms.
easier for those who feel uneasy about injections. Lasers are also playing a larger role, particularly in soft tissue treatments. Whether used to treat gum disease or assist in minor surgical procedures, lasers can reduce discomfort, bleeding, and healing time. These tools allow for a less invasive approach to care without compromising results.
For patients with jaw pain or suspected TMJ disorders, accurate diagnosis is key. MRI technology provides a detailed view of the joint’s soft tissues, including the disc and surrounding muscles. This allows for a better understanding of the underlying issue, which leads to more targeted treatment. In cases involving complex jaw function, this level of imaging can be the difference between temporary relief and long-term resolution.
Today’s technology is not just making dentistry faster or more mod-
of modern healthcare. These changes aim to streamline compliance, enhance patient safety, and adapt to new care delivery models like telehealth. Here’s a closer look at some of the key trends reshaping provider credentialing.
Healthcare organizations are starting to use AI-powered tools to check provider qualifications, and it’s making a big difference. These tools take over tasks that used to be done by hand, saving time and reducing mistakes. They make the process faster and more accurate, helping organizations bring in qualified providers quickly. This is especially helpful in busy workplaces where delays in hiring can affect patient care.
Keeping track of provider credentials in real time is becoming more common in healthcare. Instead of checking credentials every so often, real-time systems constantly monitor and update them. This helps organizations quickly spot things like expired licenses, disciplinary actions, or new certifications. By staying updated, healthcare organizations can protect patients and avoid problems caused by outdated or wrong information.

ern—it is allowing for better care. When dentists have clearer imaging and more precise tools, they can catch problems earlier, treat them more accurately, and reduce the discomfort often associated with procedures. Tools that support gentler treatment and quicker healing make it easier for patients to stay on top of their oral health. These advancements ultimately lead to fewer complications and better long-term outcomes.
Modern dental practices are changing expectations about what a dental visit should feel like. Technology should be part of every step— from diagnostics to treatment planning to follow-up care. Patients will benefit from a thoughtful, well-informed approach that combines clinical expertise with tools designed to make the process smoother and more effective. This kind of care reflects where dentistry is headed, and it is already making a difference for patients seeking precision, comfort, and long-term results.
now face stricter rules to get and keep their DEA approval. These changes include tougher background checks, more training, and closer tracking of how medications are prescribed. The process for getting credentials will also need to adjust to follow these new rules, making sure only qualified providers can handle controlled substances.
Telehealth is changing the way healthcare providers get approved to work. Virtual care lets doctors and other providers treat patients in different states, but this has created new challenges. Providers now need licenses for multiple states, and credentialing systems must make sure they follow all the rules in each state. Telehealth also makes it more important to check a provider’s identity and qualifications quickly, which adds another step to the process.
Big changes are coming to the rules set by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Since prescribing controlled substances is heavily monitored, healthcare providers will
Healthcare rules are getting stricter, and it’s more important than ever for organizations to follow them closely. To keep up, providers need strong systems to check and track qualifications. This means using technology, keeping detailed records, and regularly reviewing them. By staying on top of these rules, medical practices can meet requirements while showing their dedication to keeping patients safe and providing quality care.

act as hormones, growth factors, neurotransmitters, anti-inflammatory, or anti-aging agents. They bind to cell surface receptors and trigger intracellular effects with high affinity and specificity, with a similar mode of action to biologics, including therapeutic proteins and antibodies. There are very few side effects to peptides, which puts them on the cutting edge of health care technology—both in their implications and treatment potential.
if left untreated, the end result may be tooth loss.
What could cause the pulp tissue to become diseased and lead to root canal problems? One potential source of infection is untreated tooth decay, which can allow bacteria from the tooth’s surface to work its way deep inside. A crack or fracture in a tooth could offer another pathway for microorganisms to infect the pulp.
Dental trauma – from a sports injury, for example – may also damage dentin or pulp, or expose it to infection. Extensive dental procedures
(such as multiple fillings or restorations on the same tooth) may cause trouble; occasionally, even routine procedures like orthodontics may eventually lead to root canal problems. The old gag line “I’d rather have a root canal” may still get a laugh — but root canal problems are no joke. It’s important to remember that root canal treatment doesn’t cause pain; it relieves pain. A typical root canal procedure is performed with local anesthetics, and doesn’t cause any more discomfort than having a filling.
