Liverpool property firm completes £1 million Wavertree church conversion A number of original features have been retained as part of the ambitious project

W Developments has completed its transformation of a historic South Liverpool church into nine luxury apartments. Our Lady of Good Help and its presbytery have stood on Chestnut Grove in Wavertree for 136 years. The building had been empty for a decade ahead of its conversion into the new development, known as Grove Manor. Among the unique features retained are jaw-dropping stained glass windows in several units, as well as confessional booths and original brickwork which form key parts of bedrooms and living areas. EW Developments is co-owned by James Winters, founder of engineering firm M-Tech, and Rob Edwards, architect and founder of R+R Design. Edwards was the visionary behind plans for Grove Manor and EW has further church conversions in the pipeline following its successful renovation of an abandoned Victorian building in Kirkdale into the popular Phoenix Hotel. Winters says: “We are proud of our work at Chestnut Grove and believe it showcases the adaptability of EW Developments. “We understood we had a special and historic building at Chestnut Grove filled with memories. I am glad that our work will allow new memories to be
made in an incredible, modern and sophisticated setting.” He adds: “It’s been a privilege to oversee the conversion of such a fantastic building whilst maintaining so many original features. “We were passionate about converting the church to provide new homes, restoring and retaining original features throughout. “A huge amount of care and
consideration has gone into every aspect of this project, and I feel this shows in the finish.” The project was led by Intuita Property Group - on behalf of its client Comfort Housing Development Ltd – with the support of a £1.1m funding package from specialist lender Together.
