HAWK HIGHLIGHTS The boys’ tennis team were champs in conference, sub-sectionals, and sectionals, qualifying the entire team for team state as well as five players for individual state. The senior doubles team of Mark Utrie ‘21 and Ethan Pfaff ‘21, singles senior Andrew Minorik ‘21, and the doubles team of sophomore Patrick Smith ‘23 and freshman Nick Bittner ‘24 were the representatives at individual state. The team was defeated in the state semi-final. In May, Ethan Pfaff ‘21 was named the Wisconsin state champion in the Business Calculations competitive event category for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Ethan qualified for the national competition along with other Xavier FBLA members whose scores in their competitive event categories earned them an invitation to the national competition.
The Forensics Team competed at the WFCA State Tournament in April. The tournament hosted 70 Wisconsin high schools and over 700 competitors. Adelyn Carney ’21 was named the WFCA State champion in Oral Interpretation. 20
Track & Field: Three boys qualified for state: Luke Slaats ‘22 (400 - 8th place), Braedy Picard ‘22 (shot put - 9th place) and Max Oberbrunner ‘21 (100 - 9th place, and long jump - 6th place). Five girls qualified for state: high jumpers Kiley Wonser ’21 and Mattea Kiepert ‘24. Courtney Vande Hey ‘21 placed 4th in the discus, and also set new school records in both shot put and discus. Lilie Fouts ‘24 placed 5th in the 1600 and 2nd in the 3200, setting new school records in both. Kylie McCormick ‘21 placed 9th in both the 100 and the triple jump and was crowned state champion in the long jump! She also set new school records in both the long and triple jumps.
