Thanks to improving technology, non-surgical body sculpting has come a long way and shows no signs of slowing down. While not all are suited for everyone, these treatments have been proven effective for the ideal candidates. However, sifting through the differences between treatments can be difficult. Thanks to Mareldia, Co-owner, and Founder of Lokkima, we can share her expertise on this topic. by Aamira Jano

EMT VS COOL SCULPTING

What is EMS? Imagine doing 20,000 sit-ups in 30 minutes... Without breaking a sweat! EMS is a revolutionary new body sculpting treatment that tones and lifts the abdomen, buttocks, arms, and legs. It is the only proce dure to help both men and women burn fat and build muscle in all these hard-to-treat areas. By building muscle and reducing unwanted fat simultaneously- clients can enjoy a noticeably more defined body. The treatment directs highly focused electro magnetic energy that forces muscles to con tract in a way not possible through exercise. The muscles will rebuild themselves, and fat will start to melt away easier. The treatment can be done every 2/3 days. The areas are the stomach, legs, buttocks, upper arms, and shoulders. What is the difference? While CoolSculpting reduces fat, Emsculpt tones muscles. Fat freezing works by causing the fat cells to shrivel and die permanently, helping you lose excess fat in that area. Emsculpt causes muscles to make tens of thousands of contractions, equivalent to large numbers of crunches/squats in a short period. If you want to spot-reduce fat, CoolSculpting is your best bet. If you are lean and want to see better muscle definition in your abs, arms, or buttocks, Emsculpt may be a great option for you. Results. CoolSculpting relies on your body’s natural processes to metabolize and flush out the affected fat cells. Once fat cells are gone, they are gone forever. Most patients notice improvements within a couple of weeks. Re sults are indefinite if you maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a sensible diet and regular exercise.

What is Fat Freezing? Fat Freezing is exactly that-the freezing of your fat cells. The treated fat cells are crystal lized at a cool temperature. They expire and are naturally and permanently eliminated, from the body. Each treatment decreases the num ber of fat cells in the targeted area. The recommended amount of time between treatments is 30 days. Some clients require only one treatment, while others require more. Areas worked on are the stomach, love han dles, back/bra fat, man-boobs, below glutes, inner and outer thighs, chin, and arms.

August Issue 9ArticleEmsculpt is said to induce visible improvements in muscle tone within four weeks of treatment, equivalent to months of working out. Many patients say they can feel the area is firmer and tighter within days after treatment. Safety and Long-Term effects. CoolSculpting and Emsculpt are non-invasive, with no anaesthesia or needles required. In well-trained hands, the risk of adverse effects is extremely low. Neither treatment require downtime. Even though the risks are extreme ly low, and the treatment is non-invasive, as, with any cosmetic treatment, there are some risks attached. If you consider doing these treatments, please go with a reputable compa ny and do your research. Emsculpt is not safe for people with metallic or electronic implants, such as an artificial joint or a pacemaker, since it is an electromagneticEntrepreneurtreatment. and Co-founder of Lok kima, Mareldia, a specialist in the cos metics industry with expertise in fat freez ing, has graciously agreed to share her journey and professional input with us. The former accountant had a passion to help others that far exceeded that of just mere numbers. Mareldia, having lost 25 kg, after doing only four sessions of fat freezing embarked on a new personal journey for herself and her clients. Lok kima, which signifies Wave in Mesopota mia, was the first Fat Freezing company in Cape Town and offers a variety of services, including Cool Sculpting and EMS. You may find branches in Clare mont, Constantia, including The Westin, The Radisson, and The Foundry. Pricing ranges from R2000. “CoolSculpting is one of our most popular procedures at Lokkima and every week we treat clients’ unwanted bulges with its technolo gy.” - Mareldia www.lokkima.africa

If the Child Lacks Motivation

When parents jump too quickly to help kids, fearing failure, the children see themselves as inadequate. Parents sometimes keep expectations ahead of kids’ feelings and equate their societal status proportional to the child’s performance. Emotional contagion and stressed vibration catch the sentiment from one another quickly. If a parent feels incomplete, that negative energy passes on to the children, and they behave without self-conviction. To help kids develop confidence, parents must help them cope with unexplored emotions and set a doable and age-specific routine. Reward them when they accomplish it and put their toys and books correctly. The child loves the parent’s attention, and parents can display this through physical touch, which can help the child resonate with the feel. When they throw things or are stubborn in not picking up their toys, they might be doing it to get your physical attention, reverse psychology. Get cognizance of it. But if they do it often, be judicious but don’t succumb to their demanding outburst, emotional bargain, and negative stubbornness. If Your Child Has Poor Self Esteem

WORKING MAMA 14ArticleThe Downside of Parenting Mistakes (Part 2)

When parents advise kids more and discipline them in public, the kid’s feelings get overlooked. Sometimes the expectations of parents weigh more than their capacity. For example, during some problematic situations at home, parents dictate the minor child keep quiet for hours. It’s like not pouncing on a burger when you are hungry. Such children fail to take a stand for themselves while facing difficult situations. When ignoring the child’s views, he may suppress his feelings and don’t respect others. Give them adequate space to think and give due appreciation for their activities. If Your Child Is Defying You

When parents tell the toddlers, ‘Don’t make a mess or else I will not love you.’ The kid doesn’t understand the real message beneath this. And try to do the opposite or shout’. Such behavior is the classic case of a “temper tantrum.” But the real issue is that the child lacks the coping skill to deal with their emotional disappointment. Or maybe a temper tantrum has helped him to achieve his demand successfully in the past, so he feels comfortable repeating it. Hence Parents need to guide the tiny tots precisely. Telling them what to do is more impacting than telling them what not to do. Another cute method you can adopt is ‘Sing your words to reconnect to your kid.’ You may use a crazy or weird voice to get the baby’s attention. Sometimes, funny whispers make him listen to you as if you are telling him a secret. Kneel to the child’s level seeing eye to eye, using this technique when he runs around screaming and throwing things. “Trust me to try these tricks and find your kids closer to you”. By Nayan Rath While growing up, kids develop separate identities, and parents need to understand the reasons for kids’ emotional states.

Michael Jonesco, DO, an assistant professor of internal and sports medicine at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, agrees. “Since medical school, I’ve learned that physical fitness is simply defined as your body’s ability to perform tasks. WOMEN MAKING BIG MOVES: Cherith Wareley

How would you define success? The tremendous measure of success is the amount of impact I’ve made on the people around me. I’d also say that “I’ve made it” one day, according to how well I could take care of my parents and give them back the things they’ve lost over their years of serving their Church community.

Since opening our doors in 2021, we’ve rolled out locally and internationally acclaimed home textiles made with the finest quality materials by the most skilled artisans. We source only crafts products that embody luxury, comfort, and creativity. With our wide variety of designs, you will find something that suits your sense of style. How would you define success? As people, we tend to get caught up in what society accepts and defines as success. At times, the most common versions of success are measured externally and by material things- but for me, success is internal- it is HAPPINESS. When I am happy, I achieve the best results and become the best version of myself. Some activities contribute to me being happy, for instance, making a difference in other people’s lives- whether it is by creating a job opportunity or sharing knowledge.

If I know that at the end of the day, the work I do has helped someone find a purpose, a job, feed their family, or turn their life around, then I sleep well at night- and this is how I measure my success.

I have travelled to six African countries thus far, but I still have a lot to explore as I want to expand my business into the continent. I left my corporate job at the end of April 2022, with all the great benefits and travelling perks to start my own business. I refer to this step as ‘living my passion and chasing my goals.’ As a professional, I value growth as one of my core values. I aspire to grow as an individual and, in turn will grow my businesses to greater heights. By Elize Fisher

What has been the most rewarding part of your journey thus far? Due to the demand for our products and creating a job opportunity, I opened my first showroom in July 2022.

August Issue 23Article -

What do you want to achieve next? My goal, is to open two stores before the end of 2023 in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape because I have a lot of clients in these areas. I am also working on a program to allocate space in my showroom for products made by small business owners free of charge. A big part of my vision: is to empower others and provide opportunities to grow their business by expanding their network. Something I struggled with before opening my showroom.

It’s difficult to comment on this one, as I’ve never experienced harassment or discrimination in the business world. Instead, I have been given opportunities as a woman to partake in women-only initiatives and programs aimed at advancing women in business. In light of that, economic empowerment remains one of the most crucial factors in achieving gender equality in our country. When more women become involved and show up, the more we will change the dynamic.

How can people connect with you?

How did you persevere through the tough times in your business?

Entrepreneurship is hard, and having a solid family support structure has helped me. My family understands my vision and the goals I want to achieve. When the going gets tough, they’re always there to cheer me up and assure me that things will work out eventually- even when I don’t see a way out. Another thing that helps me is a clear vision; I know where I want to take my business and have a plan of action to get there. However, my plan is fluid, and when some thing doesn’t work, I’ll change it and try another method. This way, I keep things exciting in my business and give me the will to persevere. Lastly, building a network because entrepreneurship can be lonely. You will need like-minded people in your corner to guide you, show you your blind spots, be your cheerleaders, and most importantly, be a soundboard.

There is no secret to success, in my opinion. I believe anyone can be successful if you are willing to put in the work, be consistent, and never give up. The idea of being an “entrepreneur” seems glamorous, right? But not everyone is willing to put in the work required to make the business successful. You must consistently put in the work needed and “show up” even during those tough times when most people give up. Because when you persevere and choose not to give up, you will inevitably succeed. How did you persevere through the tough times in your business?

Caryn Clegg :

I’ve worked hard to develop a strong mindset. A rock-solid mindset is essential for persevering when times get tough. And let’s face it, entrepreneurship is not easy. Also, I stay connected to my ‘Why’ - my reason for starting my business and it keeps me going. I started my business with a goal to uplift our country and economy by providing education to those who need it most; our women, our unemployed, and those from underserved communities, and every time I want to give up (trust me is a lot lol) I remember my “Why”; I remember, that this is more than just a business, my vision is much bigger than me, and it encourages me to keep going. I cannot stress how important it is to have a purpose behind your business because this very purpose helps you to keep going during those inevitable tough times.

I’m Caryn, a lover of travel, culture, cuisine, and all things creative. I spent many years working abroad and in South Africa in the fields of Tourism, Sales, and Customer Service. While at home in Cape Town, I got involved in the start-up and implementation of two new businesses on behalf of two separate groups of investors; a hotel and an online travel agency. However, the pandemic brought the travel industry to its knees, and suddenly there was no work. I had to be innovative to create alternative employment for myself. The skills I developed when starting these businesses prompted me to start a business of my own, and here we are... Voila! I’m a certified Business Coach, and my qualifications lie in business management and digital marketing, and my absolute passion is business strategy and marketing. I love empowering and sharing those skills with others. As we know, the pandemic resulted in many people losing their jobs. It was (and still is) very important to us to be part of the solution to help the women of South Africa create their income opportunities. We’ve done this; by providing an affordable, accessible, and diverse female entrepreneurship platform called the Sisterhood Success Club. We provide resources, tools, information, coaching, and a supportive community of like-minded women that empowers members: to build their businesses, create multiple income streams, be self-sufficient, and have encouragement on their journey. What are the secrets to your success?

Our goal is to expand our footprint within South Africa first and foremost – before targeting the overseas market. We believe that there is so much work to be done at home. We want to become the most recognized online community to help women from all races, ages, and social backgrounds build profitable businesses and side hustles. In the future, we would like to grow our International Client Base. We would also like more physical workshops and events to create courses and coaching programs for entrepreneurs. What are your tips for growing a company?

August Issue 25Article -

Have you ever been harassed or discriminated against as a woman in business?

Value your time, energy, and expertise. Do not allow self-doubt to cause you to undercharge. (This takes a lot of growth and mindset work) Invest in a coach or mentor from the very beginning. It can arguably be one of the best investments you’ll ever make. Too often, we look at what we can lose (money) rather than what we have to gain (the potential to grow faster and get more clients - the coaching/mentorship often pays for itself). Be willing to take calculated risks. People often focus on the potential for failure rather than the potential for success. There can be no innovation without risks. Trust your gut at all costs. Your intuition is better than anyone else’s advice. I’ve often doubted myself because an “expert” said their way was the right way.

Don’t be afraid to invest. Often, we look at the cheapest (even free) way of doing things rather than the most effective. Prioritize long-term results and goals. Invest time in your marketing. It is a crucial part of business success. Grow your email list. It is one of the most overlooked marketing channels but performs well. My best tip is: If you’re in business or thinking of starting one, do not make decisions from a place of fear. Do not allow fear to talk you out of making needed investments or taking necessary action. Don’t focus on what you have to lose when taking that uncomfortable action but shift your mindset and focus on what you can gain. You can find us on:

There has definitely been discrimination against me as a woman, particularly as a woman of color. I’d often be the most qualified or skilled for the job and still denied opportunities. As a brown wom an, I have been patronized and experienced more microaggressions than I can count, and as hurtful and frustrating as it is, it pushes me to continue to create space and opportunities for ALL women, particularly our women of colour, who were previously denied many opportunities. So I became positive irrespective of all my conditions and wrote a poetry book based on my experience. The aim of this book is to moti vate others in a positive way, regardless of their condition. I was inspired to write a poetry book based on the values and principles that I follow.

Prabir Chatterjee is a Teacher, Education Manager, Coach, and a Life Long Learner.

The author has been seeking what makes us think and act as we do. What makes people Successful and what makes people Fail have been part of the relentless search by the author. The author aspires to find the key to Happiness and share it with fellow humans like him. What is the book about? For a man in his 40s, life often seems like a losing battle of survival. Everyone around him talks about Midlife Crisis. As if life is slipping through his fingers and there’s nothing he can do about it. Why think in negative terms? Why can’t the forties be the beginning of the second phase of life? Why not a phase of Transformation? Midlife Transformation is the idea where we’re facing endless possibilities to build the life of our dreams - over the next 30/40 years - using the skills, experiences, and connec tions we have gathered in the first phase of life. Especially for an Indian man in his forties, here is the most exciting time with India poised to become an economic superpower in the next 20-25 years. The economic superhighway will run through us anyway. We have to choose racing a supercar on the superhighway or standing by the road and complaining about the traffic! This book gives the why, what, and how of Midlife Transformation. It aims to help a man Begin A New Life! What inspired you to write this book?* I often say that, for most people, their date of joining is the date of retirement! They will grow up, have an education, start a job or a business (whatever comes at hand), and that’s it. They will spend the rest of their lives doing the same thing, following the same routine, and living the same (no different from an officially retired person). And then, there is an entire culture of Midlife Crisis as if it’s a sin to reach the most exciting junction of your life! For me, it is Mid life Transformation. In my book, I outline HOW to maximize your Midlife as this is the time for Transformation.

The author Prabir Chatterjee gives the reader this metaphor to see that success changes you, and you cannot go back to the way you used to live. The book also covers the mid-life crisis people go through and ways for them to change their mindset and achieve that dream or goal.
