The Hunter Valley's favourite celebration of wine, beer, and gourmet food is back -- bigger and better than ever! Returning to Rydges Resort Hunter Valley on Saturday, 12 July, the 2025 Hunter Valley Wine & Beer Festival will showcase over 45 of the region's best wineries, distillers, brewers, and food artisans. And for the first time ever, the festivities will kick off the night before with a very special guest: Miguel Maestre.
This marks the 13th year of what has become one of the Hunter Valley's most anticipated annual events, drawing food and wine enthusiasts from across New South Wales and beyond. The festival has grown significantly since its humble beginnings to become a regional celebration that perfectly captures the essence of what makes the Hunter Valley so special: exceptional produce, passionate winemakers, distillers, and brewers, as well as genuine hospitality.
This year's festival weekend launches in style with an exclusive Friday night dinner on Friday, 11 July, hosted by celebrity chef, restaurateur, and TV favourite Miguel Maestre. Known for his passion, humour, and incredible flavour combinations, Miguel will lead an intimate evening of storytelling, shared plates, and Hunter Valley hospitality. Craft beer enthusiasts can explore frothy offerings from Sydney Brewery, Zymurgy Brewing, and more, reflecting the growing craft beer movement that has found a natural home alongside the valley's rich wine heritage. This exciting addition to Miguel's repertoire showcases his versatility beyond the kitchen, demonstrating how the boundaries between food and beverage continue to blur in exciting ways. From food and beer matching to guided wine tastings, the Masterclass Stage will be buzzing with flavour and flair all day, offering educational experiences that cater to both novices and connoisseurs.

Pure winter magic, right here in the heart of the Hunter! From 28 June to 27 July, Snow Time in the Garden returns to the Hunter Valley Gardens — delivering all the frosty fun of a snow adventure without the hefty price tag or the long-haul logistics. No snow chains. No eight-hour drive. No icy mountain roads. Whether you’re a local looking for an easy school holiday escape or a visitor ready to swap the ski fields for a more family-friendly option in a region known for its world-class wines, Snow Time offers a cool change that's high on wonder and low on stress.
Here, you can build snowmen, race down a 45-metre ice toboggan, glide across the skating rink, and explore a magical garden transformed into a snowy playground. With carnival rides, roving performers, and even a quest to free a trapped Yeti, this year’s event is packed with fun for kids, big kids, and those just young at heart.
Established in 2011, Snow Time in the Garden has become an annual family treat for many families, according to Kim Jacobs, Marketing Manager for Hunter Valley Gardens.
“Snow Time in the Garden is one of our favourite annual events and has become a family tradition for many, a place to form magical memories that last a lifetime,” said Kim.
“We always look forward to Snow Time, and the winter magic it creates. Snow Time is just as much fun for adults as it is for kids. When was the last time you went ice skating or slid down an ice toboggan?"
"We encourage everyone to embrace their inner child this winter!”
Hunter Valley Gardens is located right in the middle of Hunter Valley Wine Country, less than an hour from Newcastle. Easy to get to with a plethora of accommodation options and fine dining establishments, cellar doors, and family-friendly activities to choose from, it’s a holiday that won’t break the bank or cause more stress than it’s worth. What it does deliver is pure wintery magic that truly delights all ages.
A traditional family pass, which includes two adults and two children, is just $126 and includes all snow activities, entry to the Gardens, roving entertainment, and the new Abominable Adventure activity for the kids. This fun new activity encourages little ones to explore the gardens in a scavenger hunt, using their adventure map to guide them through the
enchanting winter wonderland. They collect stamps at each checkpoint, with the goal of freeing the Frozen Yeti from his icy chamber at the end.
A wonderful way to experience snow for the first time and to hone your snow sports skills, Hunter Valley Gardens utilises state-of-the-art snow and ice-making equipment to ensure the best possible conditions every day. There are two ice rinks, with one dedicated to juniors under the age of 6, providing a safe environment in which to enjoy their first taste of the ice. You can hire a Bobby Seal to help them get their ice legs at just $6.
Adults must accompany all children under the age of five on the ice. The main ice rink can accommodate up to 200 skaters at a time, and this year it will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The hot tip is to pick up your free skating session passes from 9.30am at the skating ticket booth near the top of the waterfall. Your ticket includes the hire of skates and a helmet. Skating sessions run for 20 minutes, starting at 10am. Arrive 15 minutes before to organise your skates.
Perhaps the super-fast and crazy fun Giant Ice Toboggan is more your style. Grab a tube and glide down the 45-metre ice slide; it’s sure to get your adrenaline pumping, but be warned – once won’t be enough! This is a firm family favourite that will have everyone gasping with excitement and laughter all at once. Children under the age of four must be accompanied by an adult.
Building a snowman or making snow angels are magical memories in the making. The Snow Play Zone is filled with freshly pumped man-made snow every day to ensure you get the most authentic snow experience possible. It's a very good idea to wear weatherproof and waterproof clothing, including gloves, jackets, pants, and shoes, especially for smaller children who will be sitting in the Snow Play Zone. It's also advisable to bring along an extra set of clothing and a towel.
All this play is bound to make everyone hungry for yummy warm food to go with the wintery vibe, and the Gardens don’t disappoint. Replenish your energy with a selection of hearty food and warming beverages to choose from, including Woodfired Pizza, Nachos, loaded potatoes, Gozleme, hot dogs, burgers and loaded fries. If you crave a sweet treat, you can grab waffles, fruit cups, fairy floss, or risk a brain freeze with the delicious slushies.
Adding to the carnival atmosphere is the roving entertainment that this year includes Little Scallywagz and The Pretty Amazing Jono between 10am and 2pm, and of course, everyone’s favourite fun thing to do – the amusement rides. Experience a bird’s eye view on the 25 metre Ferris Wheel that overlooks the snow-filled activities, create magic moments on the traditional Venetian Carousel, or take a thrilling spin on the Swing Chairs or the Teacups. Tickets for the rides can be purchased at the ticket booths for $6 per ride or $30 for a book of six.
In addition to Snow Time, amusement rides and delicious food options, there are also 14 hectares of gardens with ten individually themed gardens to explore. Hunter Valley Gardens Aqua Golf and Putt Putt is located just outside the Gardens, and the Hunter Valley Gardens
Shopping Village is full of bespoke shops offering everything from collectables, jewellery, glassware, clothing, deli and gourmet foods to crystals and Christmas decorations.
If you’re coming from out of town, explore the accommodation packages on the website offered by the Mercure Hunter Valley Gardens and Harrigan’s Hunter Valley. Both are perfect for families, offering comfort, convenience and easy access to all the frosty fun! Stay close to the action, enjoy warm meals and cosy rooms, and make the most of your winter adventure in the heart of Hunter Valley Wine Country. Packages start at $379 midweek for a family of four at the Mercure or $309 midweek for a family of 3 at Harrigans.
If this is your first time heading to Snow Time in the Garden, we’ve compiled a few tips to make sure your frosty day out is as smooth as an ice-skating spin:
1. Arrive early.
Snow Time activities open at 9:30am, but the gates open at 9am — arriving early helps you beat the queues, make the most of your time on the ice, and grab a great parking spot.
2. Dress for winter fun.
It may not be Perisher, but you'll still want to rug up. Waterproof gloves and sturdy shoes (ideally waterproof) are essential, especially for kids who will spend most of their time diving into snow piles or tobogganing repeatedly. Layer up — you can always peel them off once you’ve warmed up.
3. Bring a change of clothes for little ones.
Between snow play, ice skating and inevitable tumbles, kids are bound to get soggy. A dry change of clothes and even spare socks can make a big difference by mid-afternoon.
4. Plan your must-dos.
The Ice Toboggan, Snow Play Zone and Skating Rink are all included in your entry ticket — and they’re often the most popular! Hit these first before the midday rush, then enjoy the rides, food and gardens at a more relaxed pace.
5. Consider the bonus pack.
Ride tickets aren’t included in general entry, so if your crew is keen to jump on the Ferris Wheel, Carousel or Swing Chairs, grab a Bonus Pack at the ride ticket booth to save a few dollars.
6. Don’t miss the new adventure!
New this year is the Abominable Adventure — a garden-wide scavenger hunt that’s great fun for kids and gets the whole family exploring the grounds. Pick up a map on entry and collect stamps as you go.
7. Stay for lunch.
There’s a wide selection of hearty, hot food stalls on-site — from woodfired pizzas and loaded fries to sweet treats like waffles and fairy floss. It’s all part of the experience (and a great excuse to treat yourself after braving the ice).
8. Book your tickets online.
To avoid disappointment (especially during peak school holiday days), pre-purchase your tickets via the Hunter Valley Gardens website. You'll skip the ticket queue and head straight to the fun.
Snow Time in the Garden will be open every day from 9am – 5pm from Saturday, 28 June to Sunday, 27 July. The last entry for Snow Time only is 3pm. General Garden entry is permitted until 4pm. For more info or to purchase tickets, visit www.huntervalleygardens.com.au.
The thunderous roll of drums and the stirring wail of bagpipes will once again echo across the Hunter Valley as the Aberdeen Highland Games return for their spectacular annual celebration on the weekend of 5-6 July. This beloved Scottish extravaganza promises two days of Celtic culture, fierce competition, and Highland hospitality that'll make your heart sing "Flower of Scotland."
The festivities kick off in true Highland style with a parade featuring pipe bands, proud clan representatives, and tartan-clad participants marching in formation. The spine-tingling Massed Band Salute and Chieftain's Address will officially launch the celebrations, as the unique sound of massed pipes and drums fills the air with bands converging from across New South Wales.
Leading this year's proceedings as Chieftain is Charles Cooke, OAM, a founding father of the games who was instrumental in establishing this treasured event back in 2000. His dedication helped transform a dream into the Hunter Valley's premier Scottish celebration.
Watch in wonder as Highland dancers bring Scotland's soul to life through graceful pirouettes and precise sword dances, their kilts swirling to the hypnotic rhythm of traditional bagpipe melodies. The combination of colourful tartan, skilled footwork, and haunting Celtic airs creates pure magic that embodies the very essence of Scotland.
But it's not all elegance and grace – prepare to witness raw Highland power as the Kilted Warriors demonstrate their prowess in traditional Celtic strongman competitions. These modern-day Highland heroes will test their mettle in the legendary Lifting of the Stones of Destiny, the crowd-favourite Sheaf Toss, and the ultimate test of strength and skill –the mighty Caber Toss.
Young Highland enthusiasts aren't forgotten, with delightful novelty events including the hilarious three-legged race and the much-anticipated
Kilted Dash. Families are encouraged to embrace their Scottish heritage by donning their finest tartan attire, with prizes awarded for the bestdressed laddie, lassie, bairn, and even four-legged clan member!
Adding military precision to the Highland atmosphere, the renowned ADF Federation Guard Drill Team is expected to return with their breathtaking display. This elite precision drill squad has wowed audiences both in Australia and internationally with their flawless formations and disciplined excellence.
A vibrant marketplace will offer a diverse range of items, from authentic Scottish heirlooms and clan memorabilia to traditional Highland attire and mouthwatering Celtic cuisine. The gathering of Clan Societies provides an invaluable opportunity for those seeking to trace their Scottish ancestry – these societies truly form the backbone of the global Scottish diaspora.
As the sun sets over the Hunter Valley, the celebration continues with an evening of pure Celtic enchantment. Tamburlaine Organic Wines stands as a pioneering force in Australia's sustainable winemaking landscape, operating across NSW's Hunter Valley and Orange regions for decades. As one of the country's largest organic wine producers, Tamburlaine has consistently pushed boundaries through innovative biodynamic farming practices to enhance its sustainability.
Tamburlaine demonstrates that exceptional wine and environmental responsibility aren't just compatible, they're inseparable. Their commitment to environmental stewardship extends beyond organic certification to achieving carbon-neutral operations, offering an exceptional range of vegan-friendly wines that spans everyday drops to collectible vintages. This is winemaking with a conscience, where every bottle tells a story of innovation and earth-friendly excellence.
Founded in 1966, Tamburlaine underwent a transformation when Mark Davidson took over the Hunter Valley facility in 1985. As Managing Director and Head of Grape and Wine Production, Davidson championed a Contemporary Organic philosophy that would define the company's future. Through years of dedicated experimentation and innovation, Tamburlaine evolved into Australia's leading organic wine producer, setting industry standards that continue to influence sustainable viticulture practices nationwide.
Contemporary Organic practices both in the vineyard and winery are at the core of everything Tamburlaine does. Their commitment to sustainable viticultural practices follows the strict Environment Management System (EMS) they adopted, which includes strategies for water and solid waste management, energy conservation, and environmentally responsible purchasing. Additionally, the winery is Southern Cross Certified, undergoing rigorous annual audits to ensure the absence of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and synthetic fertilisers in the production of the wine. This results in wines that genuinely reflect the grape variety, vineyard location, and winemaking techniques, without any interference from artificial chemical residues.
For Tamburlaine, biodynamic farming has provided a sustainable and regenerative method for the winemaking process by converting its winery waste into valuable compost and recycling the water used in the winery with the help of aerobic bacteria. They have transformed their soils into thriving ecosystems teeming with life, creating healthy produce and terrific wine. They recycle grape skins, stems, and other byproducts, spreading this nutrient-rich compost throughout their vineyards. This
improves soil health in several important ways: it enhances soil structure to improve water absorption and root growth, provides natural fertiliser that feeds the vines, introduces disease-fighting microorganisms, naturally controls weeds and more. This simple but effective system creates a healthier vineyard that produces better grapes while reducing the need for synthetic chemicals and excessive watering.
Tamburlaine remains committed to research and development initiatives that advance both environmental sustainability and production efficiency across all aspects of their winemaking operations. The result is a carbon-neutral wine company that caters to consumers of quality contemporary organic wine, made with only vegetable-based fining agents.
With consumers' needs at the forefront of their contemporary winemaking approach, Tamburlaine has experimented with innovative techniques, resulting in unique and diverse wine profiles and an extensive range of wines. For example, keeping consumers in mind who cannot tolerate the standard sulphur levels in their wine, Tamburlaine extended its range of wines to include wines without added sulphur – commercially referred to as "preservative free".
Wine preservation traditionally relies on sulphites to maintain freshness and prevent deterioration. Unfortunately, high sulphite amounts can trigger unwanted symptoms in certain individuals, from headaches to allergic flare-ups. Organic winemakers typically employ far lower sulphite quantities, offering a kinder alternative for individuals with chemical sensitivities. Tamburlaine goes the extra mile to provide entirely preservative-free options for those who require a gentler wine experience.
Tamburlaine Organic Wines exemplifies this perfect harmony between consumer values and sustainable winemaking. Through decades of innovation in biodynamic farming and contemporary organic practices, they've proven that environmental stewardship and wine quality aren't just compatible but mutually reinforcing. From their carbon-neutral operations to their preservative-free options for sensitive drinkers, Tamburlaine demonstrates how forward-thinking producers can meet evolving consumer demands while nurturing the land for
future generations. In a marketplace increasingly driven by conscious consumption, Tamburlaine offers consumers the opportunity to indulge their palate while supporting their values, creating a meaningful connection between quality wine enjoyment and environmental responsibility.
The Hunter Valley Cellar Door is open seven days a week, offering guided wine tastings and guided winery tours, catering to both walk-ins and bookings! For more information, visit www.tamburlaine.com.au.

In the heart of the Broke Fordwich region, where rolling vineyards meet the backdrop of the Hunter Valley's timeless landscape, The Little Wine Company is quietly creating wines of undeniable innovation and passion. Established in 2000 by winemaking duo Ian and Suzanne Little, this boutique winery has spent over two decades pioneering emerging varieties such as Pecorino, Albarino, Vermentino, Barbera, Sangiovese and Tempranillo.
The story of The Little Wine Company begins with two winemakers from vastly different backgrounds who shared a common vision. Ian Little, a trained biochemist and brewer with over 25 years of winemaking experience in the Hunter Valley, had already made his mark founding Littles Winery in Pokolbin in 1983. His expertise in fortified winemaking, honed during his time at Chateau Reynella, and his pioneering work with dry Gewürztraminer established him as one of the valley's most respected winemakers.
Suzanne Little brought her own impressive credentials to the partnership, having served as Senior Winemaker at Rosemount Estate, where she was responsible for their prestigious Reserve wines, including Balmoral Shiraz and Roxburgh Chardonnay. Her winemaking journey was unconventional, beginning with a wine science degree at Charles Sturt University while she worked at Reynolds, following earlier detours through economics and the Sydney Futures Exchange that gave her a unique perspective on the wine business.
When the couple joined forces in 2000, they made a bold decision that would define their legacy. Rather than focusing on the Hunter Valley's traditional varieties of Semillon and Shiraz, they chose to experiment with alternative varieties, teaching themselves the best ways to grow and make these through trial and error. This pioneering spirit has positioned them at the forefront of the Hunter Valley's exciting evolution beyond its traditional boundaries.
Their wine portfolio showcases deliciously drinkable wines that offer great value for money while remaining true and elegant expressions of each variety. From the crisp minerality of their Pecorino to the robust character of their Sangiovese, each wine reflects the couple's dedication to quality and their deep understanding of how these Mediterranean varieties thrive in Hunter Valley conditions.
The winery's commitment to excellence extends beyond its vineyard practices. After years of showcasing their wines through Wine House Hunter Valley – a platform they've operated for 15 years to support boutique, family-owned wineries – The Little Wine Company recently opened its first standalone cellar door in Broke Village. This new space represents more than just a tasting room; it's a celebration of their journey and a testament to their belief that great wine should be accessible and enjoyable.
As Ian and Suzanne reflect on their 25 vintages together, their philosophy remains unchanged: "Every vintage begins with unlimited potential, there is a little promise in every grape. Some years test us, others reward us, but through it all, hope keeps us going". This enduring optimism, combined with their technical expertise and willingness to push boundaries, continues to drive their mission of introducing wine lovers to exceptional varieties that showcase the true diversity of what the Hunter Valley can produce.
Looking ahead, The Little Wine Company remains committed to its alternative approach, constantly exploring new possibilities while perfecting its existing portfolio. Their success in establishing varieties like Pecorino and Albarino as legitimate Hunter Valley wines has paved the way for other producers, cementing their role as true innovators in one of Australia's most traditional wine regions. For wine enthusiasts seeking something beyond the conventional, The Little Wine Company offers a delicious glimpse into the exciting future of Hunter Valley winemaking.

If you’ve ever hung out in a sauna after a workout, you know how good it feels. The warmth, the quiet, that little moment where you finally get to slow down and focus on your breathing. However, using a sauna isn’t just about feeling good; it also does so much for your health and recovery, and it’s right here waiting for you at Huntlee Fitness.
To start, the sauna is beneficial for your heart. When you sit in high temperatures, your heart beats a bit faster, your blood vessels dilate, and your circulation receives a boost. It’s like a light cardio session that features all the sweating but without the running. Over time, that can help lower your blood pressure and keep your heart in good shape.
If your muscles are sore or your joints feel tight, whether from a tough workout or a long day, the sauna can also provide relief. The heat gets the blood flowing to those areas, loosening your body and helping you recover quicker. You’ll walk out feeling more relaxed and less stiff.
And let’s be honest, life gets busy. The sauna provides an opportunity to unplug. No phone, no distractions, just warmth and peace. That break helps calm your mind, lowers stress, and can even improve your sleep. It’s not just about your body recovering, but your mind also needs it too.
Studies have even shown that individuals who regularly use saunas tend to live longer and remain healthier overall. It supports your immune system and brain health, which is a remarkable outcome for something so simple.
Plus, there’s the classic post-sauna glow. Sweating helps clear your skin, leaving it feeling fresh and clean. You’ll leave feeling lighter and refreshed. So, if you’ve been skipping the sauna or walking past it, consider this your sign to give it a go. Grab a towel, spend 15–20 minutes inside, and try to make it part of your weekly routine. Your body, mind and future self will absolutely thank you.
The Huntlee Fitness 'Wellness Room' includes two Infrared Saunas, with access included in all memberships. Come have a chat with us today or send an inquiry to www.huntleefitness.com.au.
