August holds that sweet in-between: A time to savor the season and gear up for new routines.
“Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”
DOLLY PARTON
Hello, Willowsford Community Residents,
August always seems to arrive faster than expected — that stretch of summer where we’re still chasing sunshine, even as the pace of life starts to shift. The weather says summer, but the calendar tells another story: back-to-school shopping, sports practices, and noticeably heavier commuter traffic as routines start to return.
It’s a unique window — warm, unhurried, and fleeting. Some of the best moments this time of year aren’t planned. They sneak up on us: an impromptu ice cream run, an extra lap around the neighborhood at sunset, or one more lazy afternoon at the pool. August reminds us that summer doesn’t follow a schedule — and sometimes, the best memories are the ones we didn’t pencil in.
There’s also a sense of momentum. Kids are preparing for a new school year. Many of us are getting back to routines, setting fresh goals, and finding our fall rhythm.
Build real connections—where your neighbors become your best customers.

Inside this issue, you’ll find stories that capture both the spirit of summer and the energy of what’s ahead. We’re so grateful to our Preferred Partners, who help bring Willowsford to life, and to you, our readers, for making this publication such a meaningful part of the community.
Summer’s not over yet. Soak up the good stuff while it lasts — and take a moment to enjoy this stretch of in-between. Sometimes, it’s where life feels most alive.
Best,

August marks my 9th anniversary as your Community Manager—entering into my 10th year, a milestone that gives me a moment to reflect on just how far we’ve come together. It has been incredibly rewarding to watch the community grow into the vibrant, active, and beautiful place it is today. I’m not alone in this longevity—many of our HOA team members have been here for several years, and we are fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented group working on behalf of the residents every day.
Speaking of reflection, I want to take a moment to thank Fred Ferares for his contributions to the community. As you may know, Fred resigned from the HOA Board in June after 3+ years of service. While on the Board, he was known for steady leadership, thoughtful decision-making, and unwavering integrity. Fred consistently approached his responsibilities with the community’s best interests at heart and demonstrated a deep respect for everyone he worked with-- resident and staff alike.
On a different note, August also marks the beginning of budget season. Preparing the annual budget is one of my favorite responsibilities. While some of this probably familiar, it’s important to be transparent and ensure residents are aware and can engage in the process.
Budget preparation happens in earnest August through November, but it’s truly a year-round effort. As contracts expire, they are re-negotiated or re-bid with multiple vendors—at least every five years. The Association’s Procurement Policy guides our approach to selecting vendors who offer the best combination of value and service. In parallel, staff members inspect common areas and identify repairs, replacements, and potential enhancements for Board review.
The budgeting process begins with required operating expenses—such as contracted services, taxes, insurance, and replacement reserve contributions. Once those are accounted for, we evaluate discretionary items, including suggestions from residents and ideas for improved services. A draft budget is shared with the Board first, then revisions are made before a community presentation in October.
Thank you for the continued trust and support. Here’s to another great year ahead!
SUMMER IS HERE, and there’s no better way to beat the heat and build community than by enjoying a cinema under the stars with your neighbors. Willowsford HOA is thrilled to invite you and your family to our second Dive-In Movie of the season— a favorite tradition where summer fun meets the big screen!
Whether you’re lounging in the water or cozying up poolside, this family-friendly event promises fun for everyone.
We will be featuring the movie A MINECRAFT MOVIE (PG). Come early to swim and stay through the movie!
Registration not required; admission is handled on a first-come, first-served basis until the pool reaches capacity. Please ensure that floats used in the pool are limited to arm floaties, vests, small innertubes, etc. Larger floats and rafts are not permitted for safety reasons.
Events like this are a great way to meet your neighbors, relax after a busy week, and enjoy the amenities at Willowsford. Whether you’re new to the community or a longtime resident, our Dive-In Movies are a splash-tastic way to connect and create memories.
Let’s make a splash together this summer! We can’t wait to see you there.

Four misfits find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld, a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert craftier. Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative-the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.

WITH THOUSANDS OF ACRES of forests, wetlands, and meadows, it’s no surprise that Willowsford is home to a wide variety of wildlife. As part of our ongoing efforts to manage the Conservancy’s open space with wildlife in mind, we felt it was important to get a clearer understanding of the species and populations of the wildlife in our area. In February of 2025, Emily Lawrence, one of our Willowsford Rangers, did just that and launched a comprehensive Wildlife Survey. This year-long project, running through December, uses 24 strategically placed trail cameras to monitor and document wildlife activity across all four Villages. This kind of survey will serve as a foundational tool that will allow us to make smarter decisions about habitat management and conservation.
The placement of the cameras was carefully calculated based on acreage in each village, with approximately one camera per 100 acres. For accuracy and to remove bias, placement of the cameras in each village was done using a grid and a random number generator selecting the grid squares where the
site than previously thought. Other sightings in the spring include a woodcock, plenty of foxes, blue herons, and (of course) lots of deer and fawns. We’ve caught coyotes on the cameras several times, including one suffering from Mange, a skin condition caused by mites. While it was not a happy sighting for us, it does provide us valuable information that this illness is present in the area.
We’re excited to continue sharing the results and special sightings from the project with the community. The data we are collecting this year will serve as an important baseline for future studies and inform how we manage open space in the years ahead. Whether it’s identifying habitat corridors, monitoring populations, or addressing health concerns like disease, this work helps Willowsford, and the work of the Conservancy, become an even greater model for science-based conservation in residential communities.
AS YOU MIGHT HAVE SEEN on our social media over the past few months, we’ve spent the last five months raising our new flock of laying hens from tiny chicks! Usually, raising chicks isn’t part of our process of establishing a new flock, we typically just buy them in as “pullets” which are adolescent chickens. Due to inventory setbacks with our pullet supplier, the Farm Team had to make a choice: wait until October 2025 for new pullets or buy in chicks to get started as soon as possible. The Team jumped into action and by mid-March, five hundred freshly hatched chicks arrived on the Farm.
There’s a reason we don’t usually bring in new flocks as chicks – because raising chicks is hard! These baby birds are fragile and need a lot of care to make it into adulthood. For two months we transformed a room in our packing shed into a brooder filled with lots of heat lamps, food, and water for the growing chicks before temperatures stabilized in May and we were able to move them outdoors. This new flock are Rhode Island Reds, a different breed than our previous flock, and boast beautiful rusty red and brown plumage in adulthood. They are excellent egg layers and will be bigger birds than the previous breed we had used.
It takes about 180 days for them to start laying eggs, approximately six months after they hatch. As we enter August now, we will be seeing some of our first eggs from the flock! They’ll likely be a bit undersized at first, but will soon be steadily producing the delicious, large brown eggs we all know and love. Soon (if we haven’t already ) we’ll have more spots available for our Egg CSA. If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to sign up for an egg share, be sure to check our Online Farm Store to sign up and keep an eye on the Farm Newsletter for the latest updates.
views, and that open, airy feel that defines life in Willowsford.
Michelle: The layout is what really makes this home shine. You’ve got true first-floor living. The primary suite is on the main level, and there’s even an en suite bedroom or home office with built-ins. Everything you need for daily life is right there, no stairs required.
Deborah: And then you go downstairs and it’s basically a whole other house! A full walkout basement with tall ceilings, tons of natural light, a guest suite, home gym, and generous space for a media room or game area.
Michelle: Plus there’s a fireplace in the lower-level living area and a sleek entertainment bar. It’s perfect for hosting, relaxing, or even creating a private space for multigenerational living or an au pair suite.
Deborah: It’s two full levels of elevated living, thoughtfully designed and beautifully maintained. The screened-in porch with fireplace, deck, and covered patio mean you can enjoy the outdoors all year long.
Michelle: And let’s not forget the gourmet kitchen with stainless appliances, granite counters, a gas cooktop, butler’s pantry, and even a little undercounter pet nook. It’s full of details that make everyday life just a little more special.
Deborah: This home offers over 5,300 square feet, with five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, 2 half bathrooms and a three-car garage. It’s luxurious without being over-the-top. Just refined, functional, and incredibly inviting.
Michelle: If you’ve been waiting for the home in Willowsford Greens, this is it. Homes like this don’t come along often.
Deborah: Reach out to us for early access or a private showing. You don’t want to miss it.
Michelle: We’re excited to help the next owner fall in love with this exceptional home. Call or text me at 703-568-7868.
BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER PRESLEY MCLAUGHLIN,
Recently, Willowsford’s very own resident Fred Ferares, rode in a charity bike ride for an organization called TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors). TAPS is an organization that supports Veterans in many different ways.
This year, Mr. Fred signed up to ride in a 30-mile bike ride challenge to support TAPS programs. For every mile he rode, he earned money through sponsorships and pledges that went straight to helping the TAPS organization. He’s done this event before, but this year he rode 49.54 miles. That’s awesome! He has done this challenge 3 times, but this year, he raised $3,400, and he was the second highest individual fundraiser out of the 2,000 event participants.
During our interview, I asked Mr. Fred why he chose to support this event in support of TAPS out of all the other ways he can serve the Veteran community. His response was one of Service, as you might expect after spending 24 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Post retirement, he felt a need to find service opportunities within his professional and personal life. He wanted a way to send support funds directly to Veterans and their families, and TAPS is a great way to do that.
Mr. Fred recounted a memorable moment from last year’s event, where he was asked to ride in memory of a fallen U.S. Marine. They gave him a special memorial jersey to ride in, with the picture of Sgt. Corey Bass pinned to it, who died in Iraq. This was part of TAPS and his family remembering him as a special person who served his country. Fred had to raise a minimum of $1,000 to ride wearing this jersey. Mr. Fred feels lucky he found TAPS and can now be a special part of their organization, and help their organization grow. If you are interested in getting involved with TAPS, you can visit their website for more information on setting up an event (https://www.taps.org). Willowsford residents and local experts weigh in on how families are designing homes that support connection, independence, and long-term living.
LIFE IN WILLOWSFORD has always centered on connection— with nature, neighbors, and the people we call family. As more residents embrace multigenerational living, our community is evolving to meet the needs of households that span generations. Whether it’s grandparents helping with school pickups or adult children moving back in, these families are designing their homes with intention, flexibility, and long-term support in mind.
Just ask past cover family Steve and Suzanne Pummill, who once called Willowsford home. Moving into a multigenerational setup solved several challenges for their family. “We were able to reduce our cost of living and spend more time together,” they shared. With the help of their builder, Arcadia, they fully customized the lower level into a retirement home—giving extended family complete independence while staying connected. “Having our own space within the same home has fostered an unshakable bond.”
To better understand what multigenerational living looks like in practice, we reached out to Willowsford resident families and
Stroll sponsors to share what today’s families are asking for—and how to design homes that truly work across generations.
REAL ESTATE TRENDS: WHAT LOCAL EXPERTS ARE SEEING
Jennifer Liwanag Pearson Smith and Macanson
Construction – Stroll Sponsor & Willowsford Resident
“More people are leaning toward multi-gen living to juggle work, kids, and responsibilities,” says Jennifer.
She encourages families to prioritize structure over finishes. “Consider long-term functionality, like main-level living or additional suites. That kind of layout may not be easily retrofitted later.” Ultimately, building a home for life’s many stages is about future-proofing. “Think five years down the road. Can this home support the changes ahead? Structural flexibility now makes adapting later easier—and more costeffective. Cosmetic upgrades can come later—but things like a main-level bedroom are harder to add down the line.”
Pearl Team – Michelle Stanko and Deborah Davis, Stroll Sponsors & Willowsford Residents
The Pearl Team notes a growing number of families in Willowsford choosing multigenerational living for both practical and personal reasons. “It makes homeownership more affordable and brings built-in support—especially with childcare.”
Their clients often prioritize finished walkout basements, second kitchens, multiple laundry areas, and extra parking to accommodate more drivers—all features that support both privacy and functionality. These thoughtful layouts also tend to appeal to a broader range of buyers.
“Multigenerational living is one of the most common requests we get right now,” shares Shellie Coury. Many Willowsford homes already include main-level guest suites, finished basements, and optional kitchenettes—features that support extended family living. “These homes typically spend less time on the market and offer great long-term value,” she says. “Buyers appreciate the flexibility—whether it’s for guest space, rental potential, or future care.” Builders like Van Metre and NVHomes have embraced this shift, offering flexible floorplans—like the Stratford Hall and Clifton Park II—that balance long-term adaptability with thoughtful design.
Lucie Tirondola, Manor Works Painting – Stroll Sponsor
In busy households full of family, love, and lots of action, your walls deserve the same level of care you give your people. That’s why Lucie recommends high-quality paints like Benjamin Moore Regal Matte—durable, wipeable, and built to withstand everyday bumps and messes. For high-traffic areas like mudrooms, Scuff-X offers even more protection. Pair it with custom wainscoting and some well-placed hooks, and you’ve got a functional, beautiful space that works as hard as your family does. And don’t forget the power of color—it’s one of the easiest ways to celebrate culture, create warmth, and truly make a house feel like home.
Live in a multigenerational home? We’d love to share your story—email billie.rose@strollmag.com.
Closets by Design – Stroll Sponsor & Willowsford Residents
For families sharing space across generations, thoughtful storage can ease everyday routines. Closets by Design often recommends features like pull-down rods, slide-out baskets, and adjustable shelving to make spaces more accessible for everyone—from small children to aging parents. Prioritizing reachability and simplicity helps households run more smoothly, especially when needs differ from one generation to the next.
PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
Golden Rule Builders – Stroll Sponsor
“Blending accessibility with elegance.” That’s the philosophy Golden Rule Builders brings to every aging-in-place design. In homes where multiple generations live together—or where families are thinking ahead to long-term needs—comfort, function, and beauty all matter.
When designing for aging in place, the goal isn’t clinical — it’s creating a home that adapts gracefully over time. Popular upgrades include main-level living to avoid future stairs, wider doorways and hallways for ease of movement, and curbless showers paired with comfort-height fixtures and slip-resistant floors for safer bathing. Many families are also planning flexible rooms that can change with their needs and opting for small but smart additions—like lever handles or blocking for future grab bars—that make a lasting difference.
Thoughtful lighting—like motion sensors, natural light, and layered options—enhances both safety and comfort.
“Aging in place is really about living well in the long term,” says Nan from Golden Rule. “The best homes adapt quietly and beautifully as life evolves.”

Laura Titchenell has dedicated her career to helping individuals achieve their health and wellness goals.
With a background as a family nurse practitioner, Laura has witnessed firsthand the struggles people face in their weight management journeys. This experience inspired her to create Elevera Health in October 2023, a telehealth clinic that focuses on personalized medical weight loss solutions and wellness plans.
Since opening, Laura has observed a significant shift in what clients are seeking when they come to Elevera Health.
“When we first opened, many patients were primarily focused on weight loss alone, often looking for quick fixes or shortterm solutions,” she explains. “While body composition and weight management are still key goals, we’ve noticed a growing demand for more holistic, long-term wellness strategies that go beyond the number on the scale.” Laura says clients are becoming more invested in understanding “how their hormones, gut health, energy levels, and mental wellbeing are interconnected.”
Additionally, Laura has seen interest surge in hormone optimization and metabolic health, especially among women navigating perimenopause and menopause. “More patients are asking for lab-based, personalized plans that support graceful aging, energy, mood stability, and improved sleep—not just aesthetics.” Laura states that this shift has allowed her team to expand their services to include targeted treatments like hormone replacement therapy, peptide therapies, and advanced supplement regimens.
Laura says expanding into hormone therapy was a natural extension to Elevera Health’s mission to provide comprehensive, science-driven wellness solutions that empower people to live healthier, more vibrant lives. “Many of our clients were already doing everything right with nutrition and exercise yet still felt out of balance, and lab work often pointed to hormonal imbalances as the missing piece.” By adding evidence-based hormone therapy to their services, Laura says it enabled the practice to address the underlying factor, and to “personalize care even further and help patients reclaim their vitality rather than simply manage symptoms.”
Hormone therapy at Elevera Health works hand-in-hand with other wellness treatments, such as peptides, nutritional boosters, thyroid optimization, and aging protocols to create a truly comprehensive approach to health and vitality, says Laura. Hormone therapy rebalances systems affecting energy, metabolism, mood, and sleep; peptides aid in tissue repair, fat loss, cognitive function, and cellular rejuvenation. Nutritional boosters support the body’s healing, thyroid optimization ensures efficient metabolism, and aging protocols maintain strength, clarity, and resilience. Together, these services enhance wellness at hormonal, cellular, and systemic levels, helping patients to look, feel, and function optimally.
A hormone therapy consultation with Elevera Health is convenient and personalized, all done via telehealth. You’ll receive expert care tailored to your needs, right from home.
"There’s something incredibly fulfilling about helping someone regain their energy, confidence, and sense of control over their health."
Here’s what you can expect:
• In-depth health assessment: This will focus on understanding symptoms, lifestyle, medical history, and wellness goals through a comprehensive virtual consultation.
• Comprehensive lab testing: Bloodwork and other diagnostics are ordered to assess hormone levels, thyroid function, and metabolic health, with options available for local or at-home testing.
• Personalized treatment plan: Based on the patient’s results, a customized protocol is created that may include bioidentical hormones, thyroid support, peptides, or targeted supplements.
• Flexible medication fulfillment: Prescriptions are either delivered directly to your door or sent to a local pharmacy of your choice for convenient pick-up.
• Ongoing support and monitoring: Follow-ups are scheduled virtually to track progress and adjust your plan as needed, ensuring long-term success.
Preventative and longevity care have always been pillars to Laura’s telehealth business. She observes
that individuals are increasingly seeking solutions that are evidence-based, sustainable, and customized to their unique biochemistry. According to Laura, this shift reflects a broader movement from reactive care to proactive wellness—a transformation she and her team at Elevera Health are eager to continue embracing and advancing.
“The most rewarding part of building this business has been witnessing the real, lasting transformations in the lives of our patients,” Laura exclaims. “There’s something incredibly fulfilling about helping someone regain their energy, confidence, and sense of control over their health. Knowing that we’re not just offering quick fixes, but empowering people with the tools, education, and personalized care they need to thrive—that’s what drives us.”
If you’re looking for a trusted wellness partner, where you feel heard and supported, choose Elevera Health, where building relationships is truly the heart of their work.

A proud sibling shares highlights from a weekend of celebration and inspiration!
BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER WESTON MCLAUGHLIN, THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY CAPITAL TRIMLIGHT
ON MAY 17, 2025 my brother graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law school. His name is Alexander McLaughlin, and our family is very proud of him. We spent the weekend with him and our extended family in Pennsylvania; there was lots of food, music and fun. While I was there, I got one of the few tickets to go see him graduate at the ceremony. At first it seemed like there were thousands of names before he got called, but eventually his name was called, and me and my dad were screaming like crazy. It was an awesome experience to see him graduate. I had some questions to ask him about the process to becoming a lawyer, and thought it might be helpful for other young people preparing for a career in law.
What made you want to go to Law School?
I was very influenced by my Mother in that regard. She told me from a young age that a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) is extremely versatile, and that you can work in pretty much any industry you would like because every industry and every company needs
What made you choose UPenn?
Of the schools I was accepted to, UPenn was a probably my best opportunity to get into a higher-ranked school. It was really the grading system (which is unranked and usually on a curve) and the people that sold me on the school. The faculty really seemed to genuinely care about how their students’ studies were going, which I hear is not always the case at some law schools.
What made you choose Corporate Law?
As a history major, I have always been interested in the mechanics of how societies operate. Over time, I’ve found that economics and finance is a huge part of that. The firm I’m going to is very open to its employees working with who they like in the office and also exploring different sub-practice areas. I had a great time during my summer internship there. Everyone was remarkably kind. This influenced me to lean toward Corporate Law.
What are your future plans?
I’m sitting for the New York bar exam in late July. And, NY has a particular test—the NYLE—which I also have to take, but it isn’t as demanding as the Bar exam. So I’ll be studying until I move to NY in August to take a job, wish me luck!
What advice would you give for people who aspire to get into Law School?
I would say start early in your studies, in terms of getting good grades. The grades you get in middle school and high school especially, open doors and really matter in the quality of the school you’ll be able to get into. Also, when you get to law school, you should do your best not only to study but to engage in the atmosphere of the school: Mock trial teams, Moot Court, Symposium’s and affinity groups can be some of the most enjoyable things!
Alex’s graduation weekend was so much fun for our family. We’re so proud of all of his hard work in high school, under grad, and Law School. We’re sending him best wishes for his exam prep this summer! I’m not sure if I want to be a lawyer when I grow up or not, but I know from my brother that I can be a lawyer if I want to, as long as I’m willing to work hard.

Hi!

In most cases, we generally don’t think ice cream and community impact go hand in hand. Most of the time, the things businesses do to help around our community go unnoticed. Today, I would like to highlight my favorite ice cream place, Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, owned by LeAnne and Joel Smart. They own 3 Bruster’s in Loudoun County and 1 in Fairfax County (with a 5th location opening locally soon). They also own the Bruster’s On The Go Fleet (Truck, Trailers & Carts) that deliver ice cream to events! The couple opened their first store in March of 2020. Per the Bruster’s way, their ice cream is made fresh every single day! 40 flavors are made each day, and they always have something for everyone. If you’re a fan of one specific type of ice cream (coffee, Oreo, coconut, etc.), there will always be a flavor including that! Check the online menu to see the flavors of the day or to place an online order. Brusters will always
“underpromise and overdeliver”, so if they’re running out of a flavor, it will be taken off the online menu so no customer is disappointed by unfilled orders.
Part of what Mr. and Mrs. Smart do for the community is provide a safe place for teenagers to work. They hire people aged 15 and up. Their stores always have amazing customer service and a great work family! I interviewed Mrs. Smart to get the inside “scoop” on all that they do for not only the community, but their employees, too.
Bruster’s promotes family and school over work for employees. Their policy is understanding but fair. Employees work together to do the hard tasks like cleaning and are taught not to take the easy way out. These business owners truly care about the wellbeing of their employees and are very invested in helping out in their lives! LeAnne expressed to me, “We have children too, and I want them to be safe, ask questions, and have a good environment at work.”
As this is the Making a Difference Feature, I wanted to share some of the work for the community that happens behind the scenes. This year, the Smarts have donated over $100,000 to Loudoun County Public Schools. They work with 16 out of 18 Loudoun high schools, and the majority of the middle and elementary schools. Bruster’s partnered with these schools, and give big discounts, so they are able to do special things for the students. The week before school ended, Mrs. Smart herself came to Willard Middle School and served us all ice cream. It was completely free for us, and the PTA was able to afford discounted ice cream for all 1,800 students thanks to their partnership with Bruster’s! A new venture for Bruster’s is a newly signed partnership with the Loudoun County Athletics Department. For the next 5 years, they will they will pay for every hardearned medal for high school district and regional championship events! One of Bruster’s most beloved traditions is PJ Day, a fun way to kick off the spring season. Customers who wear their pajamas to Bruster’s receive a free ice cream—and in recent years, the Smarts
have added a heartwarming twist: donate a new pair of pajamas to support Comfort Cases, an organization that provides essentials to youth entering foster care, and you’ll still get that sweet scoop. The first year of the PJ drive collected 300 pairs of pajamas. This year? Over 3,000 pairs were donated by the community. It’s just one more way Bruster’s blends fun with purpose.
Just like the work team at Bruster’s, Mrs. Smart believes there are life skills
to be learned from being on a sports team. A little bonus information on the Bruster’s On The Go trailer: when they bring the ice cream to you, they charge the same price as in-store! There is so much more time, effort, and money put into making your events happen, but those costs are part of doing business and not all are passed along to the event attendees. I want to wrap this up with a quote from LeAnne: “We serve a scoop of kindness and we’re really passionate about what we do.” Here in Willowsford, many families have seen Bruster’s generosity firsthand—whether it’s through school partnerships, PTA events, or simply sharing a scoop after a game or neighborhood outing. Bruster’s Ice Cream is there for you when you want to celebrate your victories, but they’re still there on your hardest days. I’m not saying that dessert therapy will fix your problems, but the next level of customer service, and ice cream will certainly make it better! Check out their website with rotating flavors at: StoneRidge.BrustersMenu.com and stop by for a scoop at their closest location at 42015 Village Center Plaza. You will not be disappointed in your experience!

WThis fun-filled park is just a short drive and big hit with neighbors!
illowsford resident Shanyn doCarmo and her family recently spent the day cooling off at one of the region’s newest summer spots—Harpers Ferry Water Park—and came home with rave reviews. “We had a fantastic day at the new Harpers Ferry Water Park—friendly staff, beautiful setting, and tons of fun for the whole family,” Shanyn shared. “We were surprised (and proud!) to hear that most visitors are coming from Ashburn!”
Located just over the border in West Virginia, the park opened this season with an outdoor adventure experience
designed for families. The big draw? A massive inflatable obstacle course on the water, surrounded by lush scenery and mountain views. There are options for all ages, with separate zones for younger kids and more adventurous routes for teens and adults. Life jackets are provided (and required), and the park is lifeguard-staffed for safety.
Visitors can book by the hour or make a day of it with picnic spots, concessions, and shady rest areas along the shore. It’s about a 45-minute drive from Willowsford, making it a fun, doable half-day or weekend outing.

Junior Writers dive into a local favorite making a splash in Chantilly!
BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER
VIRAJ VARAKANTAM
THE VERY FIRST Ford’s Fish Shack was opened in 2010. Their ownership team is Ana Aviles & Tony Stafford. Their mission is “To provide the freshest seafood, compassionate service, and an unparalleled New-England Dining Experience to every guest who walks through our doors”. With a vision to create unique dining experiences for their guests, they started off with twenty-four like-minded employees in their first branch. Over the past ten years, Ford’s Fish Shack has grown exponentially with their location in Lansdowne, a catering division- Ford’s Wicked Catering, and a food truck: Ford’s on the Road. Maybe you’ve seen it at a school event! This food truck is always out and about as it begins its journey to support and serve up some of the freshest seafood to our community through various school events, and also for teacher appreciation.
The new location in Chantilly is where we had our June Junior Writer meeting. We met in their new private room situated at the back of the restaurant, where a wall of windows provides natural light and the room can be closed off from the rest of the restaurant. Adding a private dining room allowed them to host everything from graduations
and rehearsal dinners to retirement parties and corporate gatherings, all with the same friendly service and delicious food our guests love.”
That’s not the only fun feature at the new Ford’s - one side of the dining room has folding doors that open up the entire side of the building for dining al fresco. The move to this new location allowed them to have a space they could truly call their own — a freestanding building that they designed and built from the ground up to reflect their vision for Ford’s Fish Shack. Ana said, “We wanted Ford’s to feel like an extension of our guests’ homes — a place where they could celebrate life’s special moments with family, friends, and colleagues. Daniel Jones, Executive Chef at Ford’s Fish Shack Chantilly, makes sure the guests enjoy classic New England seafood and experience the best service when they visit the restaurant.
During our meeting, the team sampled some of Ford’s yummy food and learned more about the business from Tony. He said that their Fish & Chips has been their most popular dish since day one. We agree – the fish is delicious! The team at Ford’s helped us celebrate National Cheese Day by also letting us sample their mac n’ cheese, and everyone loved the whoopie pies, too!
For Willowsford families, Ford’s Fish Shack isn’t just a great place to grab dinner—it’s a local favorite that feels like home. Whether you’re planning a celebration, grabbing a bite after a busy day, or spotting their food truck at a school event, Ford’s continues to show up for the community in ways big and small. As Ana Aviles shared, “We invite everyone to come in, relax, and enjoy a taste of New England right here in Northern Virginia.” With their commitment to great food, welcoming spaces, and local partnerships, it’s easy to see why Ford’s is a go-to for so many neighbors.
"I love the salmon - it's so good!" -Addison
"The food here is delicious and everyone is so nice who works here!" -Scarlett
"The mac and cheese was sooooo good!" - Evelyn V. "The atmosphere of Ford's is relaxed and easygoing, something rare in big restaurants today." -Dominick

This Grove Boxer is part watchdog, part nap king, and 100% lovable!
BY RESIDENTS AND JUNIOR WRITERS DOMINICK HALAVIK AND IBRAHIM MANSOOR,
THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY MIGHTY CLEAN CARPET
CARE
Meet Bodhi, a five-year-old brindle Boxer with an affectionate personality and a big appetite. If you live in the Grove, you’ve likely seen Bodhi taking walks with his family or Greeting kids at the bus stop in the morning and afternoons. As Bodhi’s neighbors, we’ve enjoyed getting to know Bodhi over the last few years. Whether he’s sitting on his porch, keeping a watchful eye over our street, or mischievously trying to steal a piece (or two) of pizza at a social gathering, his love for his family always shines through. To find out a little more about our furry friend, we interviewed Bodhi’s family, the Marsdens.
How would you describe Bodhi’s personality?
Bodhi is a brindle boxer with a big heart and an even bigger personality. A master of mischief, he’s always up to something— whether it’s sneaking snacks when no one’s looking or somehow ending up exactly where he’s not supposed to be, all with that classic boxer face that makes it impossible to stay mad at him for long. Driven by his love of food and fueled by curiosity, Bodhi’s always on patrol for the sound or scent of something tasty. But beneath his sneaky streak is a deeply affectionate soul. He’s a total softie with his family—pawing at you for belly rubs, following you everywhere, or curling up close just to feel part of the pack.
What are some of Bodhi’s favorite things to do?
Territorial and proud, Bodhi takes his role as front porch protector very seriously. Our porch is his throne and favorite place to be. Strangers might get the bark and stand-off, but he’s a gentle giant. He is also the master of naps, with one eye open of course, as he fulfills his role as family watchdog.
What are your favorite things to do with Bodhi?
In addition to loving the front porch, Bodhi also loves going on his neighborhood walks and impatiently waits for them every morning. It’s our favorite thing to do with him. We also love taking Bodhi with us on adventures to dogfriendly restaurants, breweries, and local parks.
What are some things that might surprise us about Bodhi?
The one surprising thing about Bodhi is that he is not your typical active Boxer. Bodhi is very chill and lazy and would prefer napping over playing. He’s been this way since he was a puppy!
Have you always wanted a Boxer?
What drew you to the Boxer breed?
We have always loved the smushed-faced breeds and first started out with two Boston Terriers. After they lived long, happy lives, we decided to try out a larger breed, and a Boxer seemed like the perfect fit. They are clever, clingy,
Does Bodhi perform any tricks?
Bodhi has mastered the basics – he can sit, give his paw, and lie down.
DJ beats, ice cream treats, and the perfect way to start summer!

Every year, Willowsford has end-of-theschool-year pool parties that they call “Splash Parties”. I went to the one that was held on June 13th at the Sycamore House Pool. I saw many kids from my neighborhood there, including Ava Alimusa, who is also in my grade.
I knew that seating in the past was hard to come by at the Splash Party, so I made sure to get there before they opened the pool doors. The line to get in was long this year, too! Ava and her friend were first in line. They were one of the lucky ones to get a cabana. There was a big crowd, but unlike previous years, I could actually move in the pool this time.
There was an energetic, fun DJ, and there was an ice cream cart! The DJ had all the older girls (including me) show the little kids the HOT TO GO dance, it was so fun! Once the ice cream showed
up, everyone ran and formed a really big line. The ice cream was delicious! There was a conga line that had at least 50 kids, it was crazy! I think everyone loved the DJ. Ava said that she did too because of all the games that he made for us and the fun music. I agree with Ava. I even got a few prizes from the DJ! The prizes were a huge hit!
Everyone had a lot of fun at the Splash Party! I love celebrating the end of the school year with the neighborhood! Luckily, the weather didn’t interfere, and it was a great time!

HEALING THE BODY, earning trust, and building strength—one patient at a time. Every ache has a story, and for Fortify Chiropractic & Sports Rehab, every story deserves a better ending. Whether it’s a weekend warrior trying to get back on the field or a new mom adjusting to the physical demands of motherhood, the mission is the same: help people move better, feel better, and live stronger.
For Dr. Grivas, founder of Fortify, chiropractic care isn’t just about cracking backs—it’s about restoring confidence in the body’s ability to heal and thrive.“Helping people heal and regain confidence in their bodies is the most fulfilling part of what I do,” he says. “Watching someone reclaim their mobility and quality of life makes every day worthwhile.”
It’s all about helping people move better, live better, and stay active for life.
That patient-first mindset begins with building trust. For many, chiropractic care can feel unfamiliar or even intimidating. That’s why Dr. Grivas takes a gentle, education-focused approach. “Building trust with new patients starts with listening. I take time during the first visit to understand their concerns, explain what’s happening in their body in clear, relatable terms, and walk them through what chiropractic care can offer, without pressure. I emphasize education and collaboration, so they feel empowered and involved in their care plan. Transparency about what to expect, both in terms of treatment and outcomes, helps patients feel comfortable and confident as we work together toward their goals.” It’s that clarity and compassion that has turned Fortify into a trusted name in the South Riding and Aldie communities—and that reputation continues to grow, one success story at a time.
One such story still brings a smile. “I have a patient who struggled with persistent low back and hip pain for over ten years. His injury occurred when he was younger, and since then, he has lived with intense, debilitating pain every single day. He had seen multiple doctors, physical therapists, and even chiropractors, but only ever experienced short-term relief. Within just two weeks, his pain had significantly decreased. I provided him with exercises not only to strengthen the surrounding muscles but to improve their activation and coordination. For the first time in over a decade, he now lives pain-free. Hearing him say that was a powerful reminder of why I do what I do and why I’m passionate about this profession.”
Stories like that fuel Fortify’s mission— not just to treat pain, but to prevent it before it starts. That’s why patient education is at the forefront. And often, it’s the everyday habits that cause the most damage over time. “Poor posture, especially from prolonged sitting or looking down at phones, puts consistent strain on the spine. Lack of movement throughout the day, even in people who exercise, can lead to joint stiffness and muscular imbalances,” says Dr. Grivas. “Small adjustments in these areas can make a huge difference in preventing pain and improving long-term mobility. “
Looking ahead, Fortify isn’t slowing down. With plans to expand services, enhance prenatal and postpartum care, and deepen relationships with local gyms, schools, and midwives, the vision is clear: become the go-to resource for lifelong mobility and injury prevention. “I want Fortify to be more than just a clinic within the community, I want it to be a resource." Dr. Grivas says. That means more local outreach, workshops on injury prevention and mobility, and building stronger relationships with nearby fitness centers, schools, and midwifery groups. It’s all about helping people move better, live better, and stay active for life."
That includes the community of Willowsford, where Dr. Grivas
sees Fortify as more than just a local business—it’s a neighbor, too. Connecting to Willowsford neighbors in Stroll means being part of a closeknit, health-conscious community that values local relationships. It’s not just about promoting our services, it’s about showing up as neighbors who care. It’s a way to build trust and familiarity so that when someone needs care, they already know who we are and what we stand for. “ At the end of the day, Fortify isn’t just about the spine— it’s about the people. With care that’s rooted in expertise and delivered with heart, Fortify is here to support the Willowsford community one neighbor, one movement, one story at a time.

AS A CHILD, I was pretty shy. The kid who’d whisper in class if spoken to and quietly hope to be overlooked. I didn’t raise my hand, didn’t volunteer to present, and definitely didn’t crave the spotlight. But that began to shift when I discovered dance.
I’m proud to say I’m an Indian, and dance is a big part of our culture. As I grew more involved in performing, I slowly transformed from someone who lingered at the back of the classroom into someone who stood proud at the front of the stage. Dance pulled me out of my shell and showed me the power of being confident in my own skin.
By the beginning of my sophomore year, I began choreographing routines for family weddings and events. What started as a personal passion soon caught the attention of others. The performances were energetic and creative, fusing Bollywood, classical, folk, and fusion styles into vibrant showcases of celebration. People began asking who had choreographed them, and just like that, what started as something fun for family became something much bigger. Together, with my friend and partner Maanya, we turned our love for Indian dance into a business: Rang Kahaani, which means colorful story. Our mission is to bring our clients’ stories to life through Indian dance, pairing meaningful songs with storytelling choreography, cinematic dialogues, and elements
unique to each celebration. Whether it’s a couple’s favorite romantic movie line or a high-energy medley of Bollywood songs from their childhood, we make sure every moment feels like a reflection of them
We’ve grown organically, taking on clients through wordof-mouth and event exposure. As our business evolves, we’re beginning to offer seasonal weekly dance classes in the community, teaching Indian dance styles in a welcoming, energetic space where culture and connection thrive. I’ve even branched this into my high school by starting Independence High School’s first Indian dance team, Indy Kahaani.

Running Rang Kahaani has been a way to keep dance in my life not just now, but for years to come. As I prepare for college and a future in finance, I know dance will always be my creative outlet. My place to recharge, reset, and remember who I am. It’s never felt like work to me, but rather my freedom, my therapy, and my joy. It’s where I’ve met some of my closest, lifelong friends and where I feel most alive.
"Our family knows the high cost of repairing and maintaining your vehicle. My experience gained at a major auto dealership I know to exceed the expectation of each customer that comes through the door, whether for the first time or for a return visit. Let us care for you and your car. "
- Mike Hillyard.
In a world full of deadlines and expectations, dance is the one place where I can fully be me. And I’m proud to share this experience with my wonderful Willowsford community—one colorful story at a time. So whether you’re looking for fitness, community, culture, or to just let loose and dance, you’ve come to the right place!

From Splash Towers to Duck Relays, Hovatter students soaked up the fun
BY RESIDENTS AND JUNIOR WRITERS
ANNAKAY JORDAN AND EVELYN VOOYS
The day everyone at Hovatter Elementary looks forward to at the end of the school year is Field Day! There were 13 stations: #1 Splash Towers, #2 Soggy Bottoms, #3 Cool-down (Kona Ice), #4 Rubber Duck relay #5 Flowerpot relay, #6 Face Cutout Water Blasters, #7 White water Rafting, #8 Water Bottle Splash dump, #9 Cone Flip For points, #10 Dice Cornhole, #11 Radar reading, #12 and #13 Guard your castle.
Our Field Day was run solely by volunteers and Hovatter’s amazing P.E teachers, who made sure that every station was running smoothly, and even designed some of them! The PTA also sponsored Kona Ice for Hovatter!
We decided to interview one of the P.E. teachers, Mr.Comins, to see how he makes it all happen! Here are the questions that we asked, and his answers:
How did you come up with all of the creative field day games?
I usually get some of these games from other great P.E. Teachers. Honestly, though, I’ve been putting together Field Day for 29 years now, so I’m not really sure where some of these games came from.
Why did you choose to teach P.E?
I love to move, I love to teach kids, and I love to give people information that could increase the longevity of someone’s life. I wouldn’t want to do anything else. It really is the best job in the world.
What was your favorite activity/game at field day this year?
I liked our new addition of the Splash Towers. I like changing things up and offering new stations. I’m not old school (although I look it). I want to mix up stations for Field Day so that you don’t get the same exact thing every year. To me, that would be lazy. I’ll continue to offer stations that the kids LOVE, so you will see some repeats.
Are there any stations you want to change/drop/add?
I’d LOVE to add more water stations, but I’m running out of water spigots. I’m also torn about adding more water stations because if it happens to be 50 degrees for Field Day, then water stations aren’t going to be so popular. I’m always counting on the weather.
Mr. Comins stated, “Parents/volunteers are the MOST crucial part of Field Day. We get a lot of highenergy, supportive parents who make field day an enjoyable day. Without them, the day would be a bust. The volunteers this year played in the games and worked hard moving water around so that students would have a great time. They are the Field Day heroes!”
Each grade level had their own day for Field Day. Students brought towels, water bottles, and smiling faces when their day came around the corner. Teachers also enjoyed participating in the lively games at Field Day. Hovatter’s Field Day, in 2025 (and the many past ones) left everyone in high spirits and was also an amazing way to get a good workout in, while enjoying things that you love. Overall, we think most, if not all, of Hovatter’s students love Field Day, and are looking forward to the next one in 2026!

When Gary and Sharon Eisenberg first crossed paths aboard a yacht called Miss Steak, marriage was the last thing on their minds. Sharon was still in college when they met, but fate had other plans for them. Gary and Sharon eventually married, and decades later, their story has unfolded into a life filled with adventure, family, and a strong sense of community.
After marrying, the couple spent nine years in Palm Beach County, Florida, before returning to Northern Virginia. For the past eleven years, they’ve made their home in The Grant at Willowsford. Gary, a proud University of Maryland Terp, and Sharon, a Towson University graduate who also studied at UVA, have been active members of the Willowsford community ever since.
They are proud parents of two sons and doting grandparents to three grandchildren. Their first family pet, a puppy named Gucci, helped turn their house into a home.
Though mostly retired, Gary and Sharon continue to lead active and engaged lives. Gary, a founding member of Willowsford Wheels, is a familiar face around the neighborhood. Sharon is a retired Fairfax County Public Schools principal but continues to serve in Loudoun County Public Schools parttime in an administrative capacity, filling in for principals on short-term leave as well as coaching colleagues.
Whether they’re traveling, spending time with loved ones, or enjoying an event right here at home, Gary and Sharon approach life with warmth, gratitude, and a spirit of connection.
When it comes to life in Willowsford, Sharon shares, “We love taking advantage of the many activities and amenities that Willowsford has to offer. In the summer, the pools are our favorite spot. Gary enjoys swimming laps, and I love unwinding with a book poolside.”
The Eisenbergs are also regular participants in community events, including dinners, dance classes, Dueling Pianos, and First Fridays. Whether it’s a festive gathering or a quiet evening walk, they take joy in the simple pleasures of neighborhood life.
Avid travelers, they’ve made countless trips to Dewey Beach, Delaware, and South Florida, where they continue to stay connected with friends and family from their Palm Beach days. They also enjoy cruising and have ventured on several Viking Cruises, including three European voyages and one along the Mississippi River.
Above all, they cherish time with their grandchildren – what Sharon affectionately calls her “favorite job ever.” “It’s a season of fullness,” they reflect, grateful for their good health and the freedom to pursue their interests. “We are always ready to be with friends and have fun.”
Whether they’re traveling, spending time with loved ones, or enjoying an
event right here at home, Gary and Sharon approach life with warmth, gratitude, and a spirit of connection. Their presence is part of what makes Willowsford feel like home, not just for themselves, but for others also. They
look forward to each new issue of Stroll Willowsford, which they read from cover to cover.

What do circus lights, heartfelt speeches, and a packed dance floor have in common? For many Willowsford families, they were all part of an unforgettable night celebrating Loudoun Country Day School at this year’s gala, The Ringmasters Ball.
From the moment guests stepped into the vibrant venue, the energy was electric—but the real magic came from the people. Willowsford resident Letitia Yates shared: “And then there was the gala. Wow! What an experience. Not only did we have an absolute blast, but it was also such a special opportunity to see how deeply the families and staff care about this school. The energy, the laughter, the memories—it was all unforgettable.”
Joy, connection, and a shared love for learning lit up The Ringmasters Ball
Willowsford parents Megan and Adam Sizemore echoed that joy: “The gala was a wonderful reminder of why we love LCDS. Between the small class sizes and unbeatable community, we’ve seen our kids’ confidence grow in ways we never imagined.” They added, “Our favorite part of the evening was the circus-themed entertainment to kick off the night.”
For longtime LCDS parent and Willowsford resident Allison Sahin, the event was another reflection of the school’s consistent heart and mission: “The LCDS gala keeps outdoing itself each year with larger venues and larger crowds, yet the conversations and connections were all about a closely knit community.”
That feeling of belonging is what initially drew many families to the school. “We chose LCDS by believing in their vision, which is to inspire students to think critically and creatively, and to lead with courage, compassion and character,” said Allison. “This mission spoke to us initially, then we felt it during the school interview process, and we have been seeing it in action over the past five years while our daughter has been attending LCDS.”
The gala also raised support for the school’s five core initiatives: music and the arts, STEM, outdoor learning, safety and security, and need-based tuition assistance—each one a reflection of LCDS’s commitment to nurturing students in every dimension.
Letitia reflected on the year as a whole: “Our kids came home every day with stories they couldn’t wait to share—about their teachers, their friends, the plays, the field trips, all of it. Then the gala just tied it all together.”
With unforgettable moments and heartfelt conversations, the gala was more than just a night out—it was a celebration of the community so many Willowsford families are proud to be part of.
