Good Day Team,
I would like to welcome you to our Spring 2024 William R. Nash newsletter. It’s been a very busy first 6 months for the company and all indications are it’s going to carry on that way through the rest of this fiscal year. Lots of good things are happening and we just need to keep the momentum going.
We’re covering quite a bit in this newsletter concerning our organization, including employee anniversaries, spotlights, gold coin winners, as well as new additions to the company. We also have quite a few project updates of what is happening on our projects sites, recent company events, and our “Women in Construction” week celebration that occurred in early March. I am extremely proud of the number of female team members we currently have in this typically male dominated field. Like it says in the newsletter, “We take immense pride in having such talented individuals as a part of our team.”
I hope you all enjoyed the WRN/HBMG Annual meeting that took place on March 19th and it was great to see and hear from Sal Bauccio, our president of HB Mechanical Group and Bob Whalen, our President and CEO of HB Global, LLC. Again, I apologize for not being able to accommodate all of our South Florida team members to be there personally because of location issues, we’ll be back to normal in 2025. I felt the meeting was full of good information, and all of the HBMG divisions are headed in the right direction for future success. For those of you that were not present and haven’t viewed the recording as of yet, I suggest you do so, it’s definitely worth the view!
Also, like I mention in the Annual Meeting, you’ll be receiving an email, or text for our “Employee Engagement Survey” that will be coming your way a little later this spring and the importance of you completing it in a timely manner. It will only take 10 minutes or less to complete and we want to know how you feel and what you’re thinking about your relationship with the William R. Nash organization. Our ultimate goal is to make sure everyone, including William R. Nash are working together to “make this a great place to work and create value” for our employee-owners.
I’m going to stop talking and let you get on with the newsletter, however, once again I want to remind you all of how much I and our leadership team appreciate all that you do for William R. Nash, each and every day, making this, in my opinion, the place to be.
As always, if you any questions, comments, or concerns for the good of the organization, please feel free to reach out and give me a call at 305-728-3420 or send me an email at Russell.nash@wrnash.com.
We thank each one of you for your service & dedication.

On November 4th, 2023, the government officials of the Virgin Islands and the local community came together to commemorate a significant milestone in the healthcare sector of the Territory. This momentous occasion marked the longawaited commencement of the reconstruction of the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute (CKCI).
After being closed down due to the devastating hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, the revival of CKCI symbolizes a beacon of hope and advancement in the battle against cancer in the region. In June 2022, FEMA allocated the necessary financial resources to initiate the demolition of the damaged sections of the facility and construct a brand-new cancer treatment center. The $50 million allocation enabled SRMC to successfully complete the demolition work by May 2023 and kickstart the process of soliciting contractors for the reconstruction of the facility that had been closed down.
The scope of the project will be executed by J. Benton Construction, LLC. which involves expanding and extending the existing structure, replacing and reinforcing the roof, repairing and enhancing the exterior, and redesigning and upgrading the interior systems to ensure CKCI’s resilience against windstorms and earthquakes. The entire interior of the facility will undergo a complete overhaul, including the replacement of doors, floors, walls, ceilings, and finishes. Additionally, an upgraded elevator will be installed, along with modernized electrical, telecommunications, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
The William R. Nash, V.I., Inc. team is thrilled to be involved in the renovations and will be spearheading the full mechanical and plumbing services for the 27,500 sq ft building.
We are thankful for our long-standing partnership with J. Benton Construction, we are committed to making a positive impact in the Caribbean communities. Together, we are dedicated to providing top-notch services that contribute to the well-being and growth of the region.

The Nicklaus Children’s Hospital celebrated it’s topping out of the impressive new surgical tower, a fivestory structure spanning 131,000 square feet. Prior to its placement at the top of the tower, the project team and hospital staff left their mark on the final beam. This state-of-the-art tower will house modern operating rooms and is set to be named the Kenneth C. Griffin Tower, in recognition of Mr. Griffin’s generous donation of $25 million towards the project. The anticipated opening date for this remarkable facility is in 2024. William R. Nash handled the Plumbing and Medical Gas Scope for this project.

In February, our team successfully performed lifts and rigging at the Delray Medical Center Sterile Processing Department project. Just imagine the precision and expertise required to hoist not one, but two massive 12,000lb boilers, along with an Air Handler Unit (AHU) using a 500-ton crane. William R. Nash, LLC. is providing the Mechanical and Plumbing services for this hospital renovation.
Sheet Metal Operations Manager, Ernie Geiger, and Sheet Metal Assistant Superintendent, Javier Lopez walk the 3rd and 4th-floor build out project at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital. The mechanical and patient rooms are also pictured with various systems such as insulated heating hot water (HHW) and prefabricated Variable air volume (VAV) units, mixing valves, insulated domestic water (DW) lines, and sanitary vent pipes that our team has expertly installed.
In the beginning of 2024, our team at the Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital hit a pivotal milestone in brining the new patient tower one step closer with the successful installation of the underground plumbing! Also, we recently received new aerials featuring the progress of the patient tower and CEP!
Our team at Trident Regional Medical Center in Summerville, South Carolina recently accomplished a successful equipment lift and installation on the hospital’s rooftop. Nearing completion of the 3rd floor and moving on to the 4th.
We are responsible for the entire mechanical, plumbing, and medical gas systems for the two-floor expansion project. Our scope of work will involve constructing the entire third floor, expanding the fourth floor, and ensuring future connections for the fifth floor. Additionally, we will install two new boilers in the facility’s powerhouse. This expansion will add 64,000 square feet to the existing facility, providing 30 private medical/ surgical beds, 14 intensive care unit beds, and 12 progressive care unit beds.

Our Tamarac office staff enthusiastically participated in the annual Holiday Spirit Week organized by William R. Nash during the recent holiday season. Take a look at the fun captured below!
Our team recently held our Annual Holiday Picnic in December, where we commemorated a year filled with success alongside our colleagues. During the event, we took the time to acknowledge significant work anniversaries and honor our champion belt winners (as mentioned earlier). It is always a joyous occasion when everyone in our organization can gather together and celebrate.
William R. Nash, LLC. recently commemorated Women in Construction Week, where we proudly acknowledged the significant contributions of our accomplished female leaders in various construction roles. Despite the limited time frame, we received an overwhelming response and were able to showcase a portion of our exceptional talent. For those who missed the opportunity to engage with us during this event, we encourage you to explore our LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram pages. There, you will find a treasure trove of insightful anecdotes and valuable advice shared by our esteemed female team members. We take immense pride in having such talented individuals as part of our team. Below are a few who were not featured on our social media. Take a moment to discover their experiences as women in the construction industry.
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in construction, and if any, how did you overcome initial obstacles? I started out as an administrative assistant and being this was a family business, I became more intrigued in other aspects and ventured into the project management side of things. At first it was difficult being that there weren’t many women in the industry back then, but I had to work that much harder and persevered.
2. Could you share a significant project that you have successfully managed?
What were the challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them? I helped open our South Carolina office and did the Spartanburg High School Project. While it had many challenges being such a large project the most challenging thing was that I was the only female project manager on the project, so I had to learn to have thick skin. Being in a different state and culture, it was difficult, but it helped shape me to who I am today.
3. What advice do you have for other women who aspire to excel in the construction industry? Never be afraid to ask questions or for help. There is no dumb question.
4. How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance in such a demanding profession, and what strategies have helped you thrive? Don’t take things personally. This is a business whether you are a male or female. Everything is a learning experience.
5. What steps do you believe need to be taken to increase gender diversity and representation in the construction industry? I think that things have come a long way in construction and there are more females coming into the industry. I welcome that! -
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in construction, and if any, how did you overcome initial obstacles? I started in construction as a receptionist for The Owner’s Rep. At that time there were only a handful of women in any leadership form. We had (2) women project managers who were just out of school and the GC had a safety officer who was woman, they also had a woman foreman. I just kept learning and moving up to document control with a GC, service coordinator, asst. pm and then pm with WR Nash.
2. Could you share a significant project that you have successfully managed? What were the challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them? The project I have been working on for the last couple years. UHT Oxygen Tank Farm and the 5 Story Expansion. This project is going in phases. We started Demo the Pharmacy, then Relocate the existing Oxygen Tank Farm to a new location to enable the building of the 5 Story Expansion which is getting ready to start in the new month. The challenges of the project is the GC has different teams running different areas and they all want everything at once. Keeping the packages straight and making sure there isn’t duplicate scope of the areas which overlap. This project will complete in 2026.
3. What advice do you have for other women who aspire to excel in the construction industry? There are many different positions you can do in construction. Being a construction manager is just one job, you can do BIM, Estimating, Purchasing, Accounting, Safety, HR, Marketing and if you are good with putting things together working in prefab or in the field doing install.
4. How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance in such a demanding profession, and what strategies have helped you thrive? Have a good support of friends who all work in the industry.
5. What steps do you believe need to be taken to increase gender diversity and representation in the construction industry? When I started in 2001 there was only a handful of woman. When looking at today depending on what territory you work in, I know South Florida has a lot of women attending school to go into the management field, they are also attending trade schools to work in the field. I believe the steps are already happening. Young women today are brought up with the mentality they can do whatever they want. What sex you are has nothing to do with your capability in doing a job.-
Becky Kalentzis, Project Manager1. What inspired you to pursue a career in construction, and if any, how did you overcome initial obstacles? I moved from Venezuela to the US, this change was an opportunity to start from scratch and construction was a new challenge in my career. I had to study and learn not only about construction I needed to learn about the language too.
2. Could you share a significant project that you have successfully managed? What were the challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them? II haven’t managed a project by myself yet, but I’ve worked in many successful projects with an excellent team that have helped me a lot to succeed, the most recent project that I’ve worked is the BHSF Master Aesthetics Improvements - Tower Building- Levels 2 through 5 The project was a renovation and we needed to finish our scope without affecting the critical areas of the active hospital. Investigation and verification of the existing facilities along with coordination with the hospital staff was key to complete this project.
3. What advice do you have for other women who aspire to excel in the construction industry? Learn! Knowledge is power, this will improve your confidence and people will respect you. Trust yourself and in your abilities.
4. How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance in such a demanding profession, and what strategies have helped you thrive? For me exercise is key to maintain this balance, when you have a strong body, you will also have a strong mind.
5. What steps do you believe need to be taken to increase gender diversity and representation in the construction industry? Create more recruitment strategies, many women believe construction is an only men industry. - Yalimar Torres, Assistant Project Manager
In 2023, William R. Nash introduced a “Gold Coin” initiative recognizing team members that are going above and beyond for the organization. Each recipient is nominated by their supervisor and this nomination is brought to the leadership team for review. The coins accrue to gift card prizes which the recipient can spend how he/she pleases! Job well done to all everyone who has received this incentive!
