THE REPORTER

Grace and peace to you from God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Every once in a while we hear news that changes everything. For my grandparent’s generation it was hearing of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, for my generation it was watching the Twin Towers fall in New York. In those moments, we know that this changes everything. On a more personal level, we have these experiences as well. Having children, from the first to the last changes everything. I tell couples who are preparing for marriage that making those vows changes everything. The death of a loved one changes everything. There is nothing that changes everything we know, or thought we knew, like the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. That truly changes everything. Throughout Lent we will hear from the Gospel texts in worship the determination of Jesus Christ to bring salvation to the world through his own death and resurrection. He sets his face to Jerusalem, tells his disciples multiple times that he will suffer and die but in three days be raised from the dead. What is even more incredible is that he does this for us, you and me. He does this give salvation to sinners, even the ones who nailed him to the cross. This month we will gather on Easter morning to hear this story again. We will hear how Jesus conquered sin and death and was raised from the dead by the Father in heaven. It is a resurrection that we share through our baptism into Christ’s death, so that we would also share his resurrection. So come and hear anew this life changing, world changing Good News! In Christ, Pr. Jared Rakness
