he crisis in Puerto Rico’s healthcare system further increased after the disastrous effects of hurricane Maria in 2017, and the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. While fears have begun to calm down with the arrival of vaccines and treatments for Covid, the risk of testing positive is still out there, and many are still at risk of falling victims to the disease. Perhaps the ones with the greatest risk is the older population, specifically those with pernicious
health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure emphysema, and others. All of these associated with aging. As Puerto Rico’s population continues to age, more and more adults would require extended care and treatment in special facilities that can provide it, and many don’t have at their disposal the necessary resources to guarantee those services.
