5 ARRESTED IN ALTEA FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

buzz@vistacostablanca.com

Charity Race Night for MacMillan at Margys Bar

A great night was had by all at Margys Bar Calle Mirador Banidorm last Friday night, a full house of locals enjoyed the fun and free buffet laid on by Colin the owner. Every race collected 1€ from each race goer for the MacMillan charity a fantastic pub event for a very important cause.

Agents of the national police force here in Benidorm, have arrested five individuals in the town of Altea, all males between the ages of 29 and 48 for the alleged crime of drug trafficking. The research began after finding the distribution and sale of narcotics in a bar run by one of the detainees, located in the town centre. Following this they proceeded to arrest his son, nephew, one of the waiters and a client of the bar for falsifying documents. Later after raiding the home of the said individual the police confiscated 85 grams of marijuana, a rifle, numerous ammunition of different caliber, two local police

badges, a ministers of justices badge and 7.075 euros hidden in a safe deposit box. They also searched a local Pizzeria and although nothing of any value was found, it was noted that the premises were exercising extreme security measures. The house next door which belonged to the nephew of the main detainee was searched and around 9 grams of cocaine was retrieved, several pieces of hashish, a precision scale for weighing the drugs, two hallucinogenic mushrooms and 4.483 euros in cash. They are all awaiting sentencing.

Also performing at the time was the Prospectors who made an announcement to get the attention of the guests and asked for their generosity, the girls found themselves pinning Poppy's onto anything that was available which in some cases was not much!!!!

Poppy Appeal 2013 Benidorm was launched on 16th October by the Mayor of Benidorm Augustin Navarro together with Paul Rodwell from the British Consul and regional chairman Chris Wyatt. The event was attended by many locals and holiday makers. A big thank you from the speakers including the Mayor for the collectors who not only performed a fantastic job on the day of the parade but also until Remembrance Day 11th November at 11am. Exclusive Interview with Simon Patrick Elvis Tribute at the Rock and Roll House Benidorm.

Working for eight years exclusively at the Rock and Roll House, Simon Patrick the number one Elvis Tribute Act told me “ Im happy here the people are lovely I get so many e mails asking when I will be here so they can plan their holidays.” From March onwards the season starts for Simon all the way through to Christmas. Then he will chill out for a couple of months to recharge before the next season. Simon explained “I have a lot of contacts back home and very soon has some big shows in Blackpool and Leeds for three days performing together with a seven piece band, then on the 8th November the band will be flying out here for a week performing with me for the ninth anniversary of the Rock and Roll House with a full Vegas Show, the first time ever that I have done this in Benidorm.” Simon explained that money being limited around the venues in Benidorm to pay for live bands to perform was because that the entertainment was free here, no one charges for entry and you know most places in the world offering four acts a night would charge, at home in the UK you can pay like £10 easily for a night of entertainment. So I asked Simon about the Shaky and Elvis Show “ I have been performing live with Dean Ryan now for four years we met up and became buddy’s. His passion is Shaky and so is mine as well as Elvis so we are both passionate about what we do. I couldn’t do a show with just anyone it’s a special chemistry

we have and works really well.” “We do 30 minutes individually then perform a Rock and Roll party duo, there is an amazing energy between us and the public love it”. Talking about where the customers come because the venue is almost full every night, so being situated across form the Flamingo Oasis hotel, the Melia, and the Levante Club and being all inclusive doesn’t stop them coming out. Simon turned up in Benidorm after making a decision to perform abroad, “So I said to my mum Im going to give it ago abroad and decided I was going to Benidorm.” I put a little money in my pocket and had with me my backing tracks and costume, I turned up in Benidorm I had nowhere to live so I asked around doing a bit of homework.”

“My First ever show was at the Pig n Whistle following a performer called Neil St John then I walked into the Rock and Roll House and said I will perform for free for half an hour, if you like me then great!, its actually all been plain sailing.” “They gave me a chance, I took it and never looked back”. I said you are recognised all over the town and have many many fans that visit from all over Europe, how do you take that? Simon said “I really do love it here I have some great friends and love my fans the people who I meet here are having fun and enjoying themselves that’s what Benidorm is all about.” “Working for the owners here could not be better

they are my friends and we understand each other, I respect them we have a great understanding I don’t ever let them down and the are the same with me.” “I go back home every third week for a week make sure my mums ok have a little rest keep my freshness then come back feeling great”. We talked about the Elvis Fiesta in Benidorm with the third year coming up in April 2014 this started in Wales every September it started off with 200 people and now attracts thousands there. “I am headlining again here in Benidorm this next year and its just getting bigger and bigger each year.

Benidorm Gastronomy 2013. The Rice Dish Days

LA CUINA DE PONENT RESTAURANTE

J

ust fifty meters from Poniente Beach the restaurant La Cuina de Ponent is an amazing dining experiance, I went there as part of the Benidorm Gastronomy event, I was accompanied by friends consisting of three nationalities, Dutch, Spanish and myself British. The room has capacity for 60 guests, Mediterranean décor sea blue, and wood, a warm and welcoming place. But what really makes "La cuina", a team led by the husband and wife Miguel Ángel and Maria Elena. Chef Miguel Angel Avila was born in Madrid. His culinary hobby began in 1996. Training as a chef at the prestigious school of cuisine restaurant El Cenador de

Salvador, his education continued at different restaurants in Alicante and Madrid, Asturias, finally settling in Benidorm and then creating La Cuina de Ponent in June 2006. Maria Elena, looks after the front of house with great care and professionalism, offering a friendly and first class service. The treatment you have is as if you had been dining there for years. Maria Elana , speaks English and French, and specializes in wine tasting so choosing a wine to acompany your meal is always easier. The restaurant offers specialist cuisine of rice, one of Spain’s most popular and famous dishes. Rice dishes seem simple but are full of complicity there are many recipes and styles. Their style of the cooking offers natural flavors and seasonal products. I am a novice when it comes to Spanish cooking and like most Brits I have eaten tapas, tapas and more tapas also Paella and grilled meats. I am loving the different tastes of Spanish cuisine and was most excited to try something new. The table was decorated in white cloth, the water glasses were light blue and the settings were stylish. We were served fresh bread together with a selection of dips, a very light creamy ali oli that simply melted in your mouth also a tomato and herb dip with a distinctly fresh tomato taste. The menu served started with the best Pate I have ever experienced, really I mean I have never had anything like it. Earthy but smooth made from Fois Gras it was served on a sharing plate between two so there was no need for struggling to reach or pass food around the table. The other starter was similar to an egg

mayonnaise salad, I was told it was ensaladilla rusa (RUSSIAN SALAD) it was so fresh the kitchen probably made it to order, Using the fresh bread and loading on these wonderfull toppings was great, eating with fingers and chatting around the table made the start of the lunch really relaxed and fun. Next came Croquetas (Croquettes) light breaded soft and slightly crispy with a mouth watering cheesy filling absolutely gorgeous. The Rueda Viejo crisp white wine was a perfect complement to the meal and was being enjoyed by us all. I must say as the food was so good I was getting really excited about the main course and I wasn’t dissapointed. Rice with lobster, the rice was with a tasty sauce so it was soft and juicy not as I expected I thought rice dishes were dryer like Paella and the lobster claw was delicately placed on the top. It was delicious and a great lunch time main dish as I felt it was light and easy to digest. The meal was followed by a Sorbet and then a choice of desserts and coffee, the experience was so good I will be going back to show this simply delightful place to all my friends. The menu is available on line to download and offers meats, fish even they have hamburgers so take a look and discover for yourself something special.

Still Number 1 favourite British meal Fish n Chips at RAYS II The British visitors and many locals enjoy a regular feast of the famous favourite from back home FISH & CHIPS. June & Steve from Leeds are the owners of Rays ll since 1985 and continue to put a big smile on the faces of their customers by serving top quality fish and chips. So what makes Rays ll stand out from the rest and makes the real difference to the quality? So I went along to talk to June and Steve to find out more. June explained “the prime Icelandic Cod is skinless and boneless the best chunky fish fillets cooked fresh for each order. Also we use only high grade sunflower seed oil making your fish and chips vertically cholesterol free”. So what about the chips I asked “Chips are not just chips you can find all sorts

of chips around thin, fat, literally hundreds of types, we our proud of our chips at Rays 11 you get fresh potato chips not frozen and they are cooked to perfection”. The menu includes A very special offer of White Fillet Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas for only - 3.75€. Other special menus include 5.25€ with a choice of 7 desserts. And if you don’t want Fish and Chips then the special price includes a choice of homemade chicken curry with rice or southern fried chicken breast and chips. There are so many choices its amazing and something for everyone which is great if you’re in a group or as a family. Rays ll are famous for the quality of the fish so for me I had to try it, the choice from Haddock or Cod served with bread & butter mushy peas tea or coffee or a lager shandy for only 7.95€ I thought was extremely good value. The batter was golden and crispy and when cutting through to the chunky white fillet you could see how soft and tender the fish was. It tasted amazing and together with the mushy peas and delicious chunky chips I was appreciating every moment. The portion size was generous in fact I had no space for a dessert although I had noticed that the menu has a host of British favourites that include homemade apple crumble, trifle, cheesecake treacle or jam sponge and custard, chocolate fudge cake with hot chocolate sauce are just some of the desserts available. June and Steve gave me some of the history because I had like most people who have been to Benidorm noticed that there are three Fish and Chip Restaurants called Rays. Rays 1 is in the Old Town and was the first Rays Chippy in Benidorm but is not the same owners as Rays 11. The original Rays team together with June and Steve included the three restaurants until they made them independent. June and Steve are the owners of Rays 11 and you can easily find them just behind EuroTabaco on the main Avenida Mediterraneo in the Rincon only one street back from the beach front. You can stop by at Rays for snacks, sandwiches & rolls from 2.30€ and other food choices include Liver & Onions, Homemade Faggots, Homemade Pies, Steak and Kidney Puddings, Burgers, Sausages, Fish Fingers, Fresh Salads with Coleslaw, Chilli Con Carne and many more home cooked specials. We recommend you visit Rays ll and don’t forget to mention you have seen them in the Weekly Buzz. Their VISTA CARD offer is 10% off the main menu. The prices and special offers in this article can only be found in Rays II.

What’s Hot and What’s Not tells us.

It’s all you need for a great read.

Owners: What’s your side of the story?

During the next six weeks we hope to have the response from the owners with their comments to the reviews made on Tripadvisor. We welcome Restaurant & Bar owners to have their say, so don’t delay e-mail us to: buzz@vistacostablanca.com Restaurante Aitona Ruzafa, 2. Benidorm

“Not what it used to be....”

Reviewed August 29, 2013 Have not been back since there was a cockroach running around in the bread basket! We have eaten at Aitona since the -70ties and always liked it there. But nowadays the staff is not bothering about being pleasant anymore. We arrived early in the evening to be sure to get a table outside. But we probably disturbed the staff during their brake. When the food eventually arrived it was OK, but not worth the price they charged. We wanted coffee and cake as dessert. They hadn´t plugged in the coffee machine! More waiting...then the coffee arrived. We said we wanted the cake at the same time. But NO! In Spain you do not have coffee AND cake as dessert!!! We have always thought that it is up to the customer to choose when they want the cake. So we told them, we did not want any cake. We will NEVER go back!

“Great Spanish restaurant in Benidorm.”

Reviewed July 22, 2013 Large very Spanish interior with a great ambiance. Most of the clientele were Spanish. I had a beautiful fish and shellfish platter. Large prawns, langoustines, clams, mussels, hake, swordfish and salmon. Much too much food but it was one of the best seafood platters that I have had. Two could easily share! Wine was good and the complimentary cake and liquor was a great touch! Would certainly go again.

“Not as good as some.”

Reviewed May 10, 2013 This restaurant is situated in a small plaza just down from the multistory carpark in Ave. Ruzafa,Benidorm. There are a number of restaurants and cafe/bars here but this one looks the best with indoor and outdoor seating. Decent sized tables and chairs plus a voluble waiter make this a reasonably pleasant dining experience. However, we (5) had the menu del dia at €10 and I have to say that although there was four courses, yes, four! I’m afraid I was not too impressed with the quality of the food. I note the other comments and it may be that in going for the set daily menu instead of from the book meant that the quality was lower but I have had a lot better in Spanish restaurants.

Peggy Sue’s Benidorm Avda. Ruzafa, 11, BENIDORM

“Good Food, quirky place”

Reviewed August 8, 2013 We ate here whilst visiting Benidorm - wonderfully themed and decorated, very clean and the service was excellent. The food was authentic and tasted lovely - well presented and good quality. Not the cheapest restaurant but you get what you pay for. Each table has a little juke box which you use to choose music, my little girl thought it was great - Elvis playing over and over again! A real find and something different. Reviewed July 30, 2013 Place for my girls 10 birthday. Spotless clean and fantastic pink themed small restaurant. In old town but up quieter street next to taxi rank. You order a burger and that’s what you get just a burger, sides are ordered seperately. Not cheap not expensive but for a girls treat very nice and different from usual restaurants.

“Good Food, Good Theme.”

“100% Worth Visiting!”

“Nice place for girls party.”

Reviewed July 14, 2013 we had a meal in this 1950’s Themed Diner which is situated Just as you cross over into the Old town. Just a small place with around a dozen tables and really well decorated according to the theme. Each Table has a little table top Juke Box which is a nice touch. Food was really good quality and was one of the better Burgers I have ever had. However for 4 Burgers and Chips and 4 Milkshakes the bill came to over €60

“Different For Benidorm”

Reviewed June 28, 2013 It´s an ok american style 50´s cafe, although its a little overpriced for a fancy burger joint, good service

“Cute!”

Reviewed June 19, 2013 My son wanted burgers and a shake so this was the perfect place to go. Food was good and cheap, loved the decor and the mini juke boxes at your table to pick your music was fun!

“Best Indian restaurant for food, service and quality that we have ever visited!”

Reviewed August 17, 2013 As locals and lovers of curries we have both tried out lots of Indian restaurants in the costa blanco but we always return to Saritas as we have not found anywhere that beats it. The staff are amongst the friendliest staff we have come across and are always really welcoming and also brilliant with children. The food is absolutely amazing and always comes out in good time. The menu caters for everyone... Vegetarians and children alike. We went last week and had the added enjoyment of a belly dancer which gave an added edge to the evening. On top of all this the surroundings inside and out are absolutely beautiful. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone, which we have done, resulting in our family and friends loving it as much as we do. We will be returning ourselves in the very near future. Absolutely amazing restaurant and would rate it a definite 5 star *****

Sarita Indian Restaurant Avenida del Albir 11. El Albir.

Reviewed August 16, 2013 For those that have mentioned poor service they must have been having an off day. Been here numerous times over the past 7 years and always had good service (if fact I would say excellent!) Is it cheap? No. Is it expensive? You pay for what you get. If you want a nice setting, good service, lovely food, extensive menu then go and enjoy a lovely Indian in Albir. If you are looking for a €10/15 menu of the day go somewhere else. In a nutshell - Lovely quality food! Enjoy!

“A nice place. Expensive.”

Reviewed August 13, 2013 via mobile top prices, excellent staff. A comfortAble evening..... but please dont have such high prices. It is interesting to note that THIS restaurant struggles out of season. EVERY OTHER ESTABLISHMENT HAS MENU DEL DIA OFFERS DURING WINTER season TO GET THE LOCALS IN.

If You Only Treat Yourself To One Thing This week. W e think addiction is a word used to lightly to describe the relationship between girls and their love of the latest arm candy. Call it a penchant, weakness, a vice even perhaps? Okay, so we admit it - us girls are addicted to bags. Be it bejewelled and somewhat impractical or your dependable trusty everyday vessel carrying all of life's essentials - what would we do without them? When you talk about bags this season the key word is ambiguity. Whether it’s a fur bag, a doctor bag or a craft bag, the stars bags of winter mix opposites. Rigor of black and touches of psychedelic colors, masculine and feminine, classic lines punctuated with rebel ornaments... a trend of contrasts for a look constantly reinvented. I normally head back to the UK around this time of year, pop into River Island and snag the latest clutch, but I will say that Zara has upped its game where bags are concerned, I've seen at least 5 that are on my list. Dont think you have to spend a fortune on that perfect accessory.. Zara bags start at a mere 15€ and for little over 50€ you can take home a fabulous soft leather tote. Find stores on Calle Gambo in the Plaza Triangular or Centro Comercial La Marina.

Your weekly

Horoscope ARIES

All you will be able to think about at the beginning of the week is your financial situation - how much cash do you have on hand, how much stuff you have around the house that could be easily liquidated - but you really don’t have to get so drastic about it. Just stay the course and don’t spend much money this week and you should be fine. Perseverance is a major theme for you right now, and it is an important thing to keep in mind when it comes to your family, too (even when things get tense and emotional, as they might this weekend).

TAURUS

On Monday you wake up with a lot of energy - at last! Now get out into the world! Meet strangers and make plans and look fabulous! No one is more ready for romance than you are. Unfortunately, on Thursday, you’re going to have no time to think about your love life, what with all the stuff you have going on at work. But this weekend, you’ll go to a party with some friends (and if you don’t have a party to go to this weekend, start looking for one now) and you’ll have an unbelievably good time. Plus, you might meet someone.

GEMINI

Last week was last week. This week’s totally different. Suddenly you feel like you’re in a kind of magical maze, full of strange obstacles and weird messages along the way. Stick to your intuition and pay no heed to anything that tries to convince you to steer off the main path. By midweek, you’ll have found the doorway out into the real world again, and you’ll be so relieved to be back in familiar territory. Toward the end of the week, you’re going to spend a lot of time chatting with friends and you’re going to start thinking hard about future plans.

CANCER

Someone you know is in the mood to throw a dinner party, but they’re just a little shy about initiating it on Monday. Tell them that you’ll be in charge of the guest list. You like to bring people together and it’s one of the many things you’re quite good at. Sure, it’s kind of crazy to throw a little get-together at the last minute, but this whole week is going to be about spontaneity. More and more you find yourself breaking out of the shell that has been holding you back lately, and the new you feels so good. This weekend, be assertive. Go after what you want.

LEO

It’s Monday and your career is on top of the list. Lately you’ve been having trouble with the boss, but by midweek you find a way to deal with the situation. In any case, it’s just work, and it will all blow over soon enough. And even though your week will start off haltingly, the second half of the week will more than make up for the first. Thursday and Friday you’ll be surrounded by friends, and the weekend will be relaxing and warm.

VIRGO

Travel has been on the back of your mind lately, but suddenly it’s all you can think about on Monday. The idea of going somewhere faraway is intensely appealing, and it would be good for you in ways you couldn’t possibly realize. Even if you don’t have the resources to plan a major trip right now, plan a minor one, possibly for midweek or week’s end. Plan a trip to another town nearby for dinner. Be inventive. This week is all about meeting new people and doing new things. The more of that kind of stuff you do, the better, especially over the weekend. People love having you around.

LIBRA

The world is a beautiful place, especially at the week’s outset. Even in winter, nature has a way of putting its best foot forward. There’s just something in the air, some signal from the physical world that you should pay attention to all the life that’s going on around you, especially midweek. In general, you will sail through your days in a kind of magic cloud of energy. It’ll be fun, but when the weekend rolls around, you’ll feel a little limp from all that high feeling. Take a day or two at home to rest and recharge.

SCORPIO

The important thing in any relationship - romantic or otherwise - is to remain open-minded, especially on Monday. It’s crucial to remember that you’re both in this together, and that for it to work out you both need to be getting something out of it. And that, of course, requires compromise. (You know all this. But sometimes revisiting the basics can be helpful.) Midweek, someone is going to try to get you to agree to a business deal that just seems shaky - and it is - and over the weekend you’re going to be so relieved you didn’t go for it. A lot of good stuff is coming your way.

It’s all you need for a great read.

october 2013 23rd to 27th October, the ITF Taekwondo World Championship. The event, organised by the ITF International Taekwondo Federation, in collaboration with the Spanish Federation and the Town Hall of Benidorm, was presented this morning in the presence of President of the International Federation, the Spanish Federation president Juan Ferrando, Sports Councilman Miguel Llorca and first deputy mayor Gema Amor, in the presence of members of the board of the International ITF. The competition involves the arrival in Benidorm for about 2,000 people between competitors, coaches, delegates, referees, etc.. Will be nearly 60 countries with 117 teams, while the athletes competing will exceed 1,100. The competition itself will be held on 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th with the qualifying rounds, with the finals scheduled to be played on Saturday 26th (single) and Sunday 27th (teams).

SAGITTARIUS

Monday is all about the small things. In fact, the next couple days are going to be all about the small things. As you well know, sometimes it’s the little stuff that matters most in the end. You have your eye on the big picture, and you know every step it’s going to take to get there. By week’s end, though, everyone else around you wants to stand around and talk about their ideas. That’s perfectly valid, but it’s also a tad frustrating. If you find yourself the solo sailor of the ship over the weekend, don’t let it get you down. People are standing by to help you.

CAPRICORN

The intersection between fun and romance is a great place to be on Monday. You always knew you wanted to fall for someone who knew how to have a good time, but you never knew exactly how good it would feel. Let this special person know just what you’re thinking by midweek. Communication is a central theme, especially toward the end of the week. For too long you’ve bitten your tongue around a certain flighty friend, and you just don’t have time for that any more. Thankfully, over the weekend you’ll find yourself surrounded by people who really know how to connect with others.

AQUARIOUS

It’s funny when you randomly start thinking about your relatives for no particular reason. Your family life is certainly interesting, and there is a lot to learn from what your parents and your parents’ parents have been through, especially at the start of the week. The more you discover about them, the more you find you have in common with them - even with those relatives you never met. But expect all that to slip your mind instantly later in the week: A sizzling affair on Thursday or Friday completely rocks your world. You’ll have to take the weekend to figure out what this new development means.

PISCIS

On Monday or Tuesday, you may want to cancel whatever dinner plans you have, stay at home and make something for yourself. It may sound like a small thing, but that kind of attention to yourself and your house is crucial during times like these. Toward midweek, expect the pressures at work or in the family - whatever it is that currently has you tearing your hair out - to achieve a kind of frenzied pitch. It’s going to be exhausting, but you will survive it like a champ. This weekend, blissfully, you’ll be completely distracted by romance.

november 2013 The Merseybeats will perform at the Benidorm Palace on November 3rd. This legendary band from Liverpool became famous in the 60´s thanks to songs like ‘I think of you’ or ‘I will break your heart’. Note that its performances at the Cavern Club in that decade were really valued by the young audience of the time and along with other bands like The Beatles or Gerry & The Peacemakers converted to Liverpool in one of the activity musical centers in Britain and also in the world.

Eat Healthy, Stay Fit, and Live Well Over 50

Protect Your Joints Getting older doesn’t mean you have to give up your morning run. People used to think running would wreck their knees. But new research suggests it might actually strengthen them. Running doesn’t seem to raise your risk of arthritis either. That said, if you have arthritis or damaged joints, running could be too much. But you can still benefit from exercise. It helps strengthen muscles, support the joints, and lessen pain. So choose low-impact exercise like walking or biking instead. Cut Sodium Is your blood pressure higher than it used to be? That’s not unusual. Blood pressure tends to go up as we get older. Since sodium can drive up your blood pressure, cut down on salt in your diet. The worst high-salt food offenders are premade and packaged foods. Bread and rolls can also be high in sodium. Want a natural sodium-buster? Eat a banana -- the potassium will help lessen the effect of sodium in your diet and help keep your blood pressure lower. Make a New Start So you didn’t have the healthiest habits in your 30s and 40s. Maybe you ate too much and exercised too little. That’s okay. The key is to make some changes now. Changing your lifestyle in your 60s and beyond -- exercising more and eating healthier -- can still make a big difference. You can lower your risk of heart problems, cancer, and bone fractures. It’s not too late -- you really can be healthier and more fit now than you were when you were 30.

Eat Healthy Fats You already know that saturated fats are bad for your arteries and heart health. But they can also harm your concentration and memory. So cut down on the red meat, butter, and other foods high in saturated fats. Instead, add more fatty fish and fats from plants, like flaxseed and nuts. These healthy fats may have extra benefits for your heart and your brain.

Eric Boullier says Lotus can finish second in the Constructor’s Championship

Team have outscored both Ferrari and Mercedes at last two races

Good Week

Andros Townsend scores as Tottenham beat Aston Villa 2-0

T

he Enstone-based squad are currently fourth in the standings, 33 points behind second-placed Ferrari and 23 points behind Mercedes who are third. However, in the last two races Lotus have scored 58 points compared with 23 for Ferrari and 20 for Mercedes and Boullier is hoping they can continue to score big points in the remaining four races. "If we continue as we have done for the last few races, then mathematically second in the standings becomes a very attainable target," the Frenchman said. "Of course, we all know that anything can happen in this sport, but second place would be an amazing result so we'll push as hard as we can and you never know what might happen." Boullier admits that race wins will be difficult to achieve given the pace of the Red Bulls, but he is clear in what he expects his team to achieve. "Podiums, podiums and podiums," he added. "We need points to help us with our Championship fight and you score the most points when you're spraying the champagne! Of course, we want to be winning

Andros Townsend capped an unforgettable week by setting Tottenham Hotspur on their way to a 2-0 victory at Aston Villa in the Premier League. The winger, who stole the show in England’s decisive races and we'll give our all whenever there is a sniff of World Cup double-header against Montenegro and victory, just like in Japan. Poland, was rewarded with a new four-year contract "There's one fundamental problem with trying to win on Friday. at the moment, and that's the pace of the Red Bulls. We'll keep pushing and if we can beat them again this And, following an opening half-hour short on chances, Townsend put Tottenham ahead at Villa Park in year it would be a tremendous performance." admittedly fortunate circumstances. Another impressive drive from Romain Grosjean Townsend whipped in a cross from the right which saw him finish third in Japan as he looks to put the was missed by Lewis Holtby and Roberto Soldado incidents that plagued last season behind him and before creeping inside the far post. Boullier has once again hinted that the Frenchman will be retained in 2014. "There are no announcements yet but there is plenty going on behind the scenes," he confirmed. "We know that Kimi is headed elsewhere for next season, but we also know that Romain would bring good continuity as well as the strong performance potential we've seen recently. "There are a number of other good drivers on the market at the moment, so we're in a strong position of being able to assess the possibilities. A race seat with Lotus F1 Team is pretty hot property at the moment, so we're confident we'll have a strong line-up in 2014."

bad week

Clermont Auvergne 23 Harlquins 13

Harlequins suffered their second defeat in Pool 4 of the Heineken Cup, going down 23-16 to Clermont Auvergne at Parc des Sports Marcel Michelin. The French side stretched their unbeaten home record to 65 matches thanks to first-half tries from Lee Byrne, Wesley Fofana and Thierry Lacrampe. Harlequins scored a solitary try just before halftime through Tom Williams and at least managed to secure a losing bonus point thanks to Nick Evans’ late drop goal.

NO FEAR FACTOR

Manchester United boss David Moyes rejects Fergie fear factor David Moyes has rubbished claims Manchester United are struggling because of the absence of Sir Alex Ferguson. United stuttered to a 1-1 home draw against Southampton on Saturday to leave the reigning champions eight points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal and only four above the relegation zone. "I think the fear factor is from the team on the pitch, that's always the case. "The players are the thing because of their quality. Obviously Sir Alex has a great history and there is all his experience but the players will always be what matters on the pitch." Despite the early wobbles for Moyes since moving from Everton, Ferguson has insisted that winning any trophy in his first season would be a creditable performance. It took Ferguson nearly four years following his arrival at Old Trafford from Aberdeen to win his first silverware, with the 1990 FA Cup success giving him the breathing space he needed to set the club on the path to 13 English League titles and two

Laura Trott wins omnium gold medal on countback

Champions League triumphs. "For David, winning a trophy would be a fantastic achievement," Ferguson told MUTV. "No matter what it is - the League Cup, FA Cup, European Cup or Premier League. It is not easy winning a trophy in our league because you could say there are six teams fighting for the league." Ferguson was in the stands on Saturday and would have been frustrated to see Adam Lallana scramble in Southampton's equaliser in the 89th minute to cancel out Robin van Persie's early strike. And Moyes was upset at the inability of his players to kill off the game having led for so long. "It's disappointing because we wanted to get a bit of momentum going and we weren't able to do that," the Scot added. "We didn't do well enough defensively. We work on that in training but we should probably have put the game to bed earlier on. But we've got to do better at setpieces, make sure we defend it and make sure we're harder to score against than we were."

Laura Trott won gold in the omnium and Jason Kenny took silver in the keirin on the final day of the European Track Championships in the Netherlands. Trott edged out home favourite Kirsten Wild on countback to claim the title for the second time, but Kenny could not follow suit after being pipped by Germany's Maximilian Levy. The duo faced off against each other in the final event of the competition, the 500m time trial, with Trott trailing Wild in the overall standings by five points and needing to finish at least five places in front of her rival to be in with a chance of winning gold. The Olympic champion

recorded the secondfastest time in the field, but Wild managed to clock the seventh-fastest time to ensure both riders finished level on points. However, Trott was declared overall winner having been four-tenths of a second quicker over the three timed events. Belgium's Jolien d'Hoore took the bronze. It was Trott's second gold of the three-day championships after winning the team pursuit alongside Dani King, Elinor Barker, Katie Archibald and Joanna Rowsell on Friday. Reigning keirin world champion Kenny qualified in second place in his heat and then positioned himself towards the back of the six-man field at the start of the final.
