he automotive world is standing on the edge of its next major transformation, and the conversation is already well underway. In September 2025, Automechanika’s organisers partnered with mobility platform HEY/PIONEER to host a series of international roadshows leading into Automechanika Frankfurt 2026. The Berlin reception became the focal point of this global dialogue. Moderated by Hans Hamer, CEO of HEY/PIONEER, the forum gathered leading voices from both tech and
automotive industries to discuss how artificial intelligence, software-defined vehicles (SDVs), and new digital business models are reshaping mobility. “The HEY/PIONEER Reception showed how software-defined vehicles, automated mobility solutions and new digital business models are already rewriting the rules of the automotive industry,” said Hamer, reflecting on the event. “It is already clear which innovations are establishing themselves in the marketplace and which issues will be decided in future.”
For Olaf Musshoff, Director of Automechanika Frankfurt, the roadshow offered crucial input for the flagship 2026 fair. “In-depth dialogue with tech entrepreneurs and start-ups delivers decisive momentum for the continued development of our Automechanika trade fairs around the globe,” he said. “The automotive aftermarket has the potential to play a pioneering role in the technological transformation — and that is precisely what we are aiming for here with our road show.”
CARS AS ‘SMARTPHONES ON WHEELS’ So what exactly is a software-defined vehicle? Put simply, it’s a car in which hardware and software are separated, allowing software to govern most functions.
