Here, visitors can see him in action, enjoy the music he personally selects and sample wines and snacks that he prepares himself. With an artistic career that spans jewelry, sculpture and painting, Paulsen has found Puerto Vallarta to be the perfect setting to merge his art with hospitality.

SINCE OPENING in 2023, Cuarto de Música has been a standout venue on Puerto Vallarta’s nightlife and entertainment scene. In this space, different bands and singers take to the stage finding an alternative way to perform their live repertoires in front of an ever-growing audience.
“With Cuarto de Música, the musical offer in this part of the city has been significantly revitalized,” says Marcela Moreno, who is both a singer and the owner of the establishment.
In addition to the shows and performances, a distinctive feature of the venue is its excellent beverage selection that revolves around mezcalitas and other specialty cocktails, as well as a menu that includes everything from juicy hamburgers to select cuts.
Each decorative element in the space has been carefully placed to heighten the patron’s experience in the venue. “A nice family has been formed with our regular customers and that motivates us to increase and vary our weekly line-up,” Marcela concludes.
DESDE SU APERTURA en 2023, Cuarto de Música se ha destacado en la escena del entretenimiento nocturno de Puerto Vallarta. En este foro artístico, diferentes bandas y cantantes toman el escenario de manera alternativa para interpretar sus repertorios en vivo a una cada vez mayor audiencia.
“Con la llegada de Cuarto de Música, la oferta musical en esta zona de la ciudad se ha revitalizado significativamente”, comenta Marcela Moreno, quien es cantante y propietaria del lugar.
Además de los shows y performances, un distintivo de este lugar es su exquisita carta de bebidas que gira en torno a las mezcalitas y otros cocteles especiales, así como un menú que incluye desde jugosas hamburguesas hasta cortes selectos.
Cada elemento decorativo del lugar ha sido cuidadosamente colocado para resaltar la experiencia rockera del lugar. “Se ha formado una linda familia con nuestros clientes habituales y eso nos motiva a incrementar y variar nuestro line-up semanal”, finaliza Marcela.

EL BARRACUDA has taken seafood cuisine to the next level, serving freshness and flavor in every dish. This acclaimed Vallarta-born concept was founded 18 years ago, and this new location in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood marks its fourth. “In June 2007, we opened our first restaurant in the Playa Camarones area. Since then, our cuisine has evolved to remain a favorite among both residents and visitors,” proudly shares Carlos Morales, a partner in this project.
This newest restaurant maintains the open and casual style that characterizes the brand. The menu consists of market-style seafood, which includes seafood tacos, ceviches and tuna pokes, among other options.
An exceptional mixology menu pays homage to the spirits found in our region, with many cocktails prepared with raicilla. “In terms of culinary concepts, the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood is one of the most active areas of Puerto Vallarta and El Barracuda has come to contribute even more to that vibrance,” concludes Carlos.

WITH FILIPINO, Thai and Chinese influences, Archie’s Wok has captivated generations since it first opened its doors in 1986. Archie, who was the private chef to legendary director John Huston (The Night of the Iguana), left behind a legacy that his wife, Cyndi Alpenia, and their children, Sergio and Kiyoki, have passionately preserved since his passing in 1993.
What started as a small Asian deli become one of the most prominent restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. “When Archie found this place, the kitchen was very small. So, I asked him if he was going to be able to do everything

“In many ways, a restaurant is like a theater—behind the scenes, everything that can go wrong does, and the audience will never know. Problem-solving is part of our daily routine, but deeper than all that, there is the joy of sharing food. It’s heartwarming to see the children of our original diners now bringing their own little ones, coloring in a menu as they wait for their favorite dish. At table two, by the window, a diner straps on a newly purchased apron, stands up and, with a nervous smile, proposes to the love of his or her life. Over the years, every corner of the restaurant has witnessed countless stories. Kiyoki, Sergio and our extraordinary team have made it all possible, working in perfect harmony. And so, night after night, the show goes on,” concludes Cyndi.

Spinach Croquettes with Tatemado Habanero Aioli and Prosciutto: a nod to Argentine tradition, evoking the homemade flavors the chef experienced in childhood. The perfect crunchiness is enhanced by the habanero aioli, which adds a touch of subtle but persistent spiciness.
As a main course, Raíces · Resto-Bar surprised with its Large Ravioli Filled with Braised Short Rib. It is a homemade pasta, stuffed with short rib that has been cooked on the grill for over 16 hours. The meat falls apart with the slightest touch of the fork, rich with the aromas of red wine and dried tomatoes. The ravioli is finished in a wood-fired oven, achieving a crunchy texture on the edges, similar to that of a lasagna au gratin.
To close the evening, the Banana and Date Pudding with Bourbon Caramel and Milk Cream stole the show. This dessert balances the natural sweetness of the ingredients with a smoky touch of caramel and the softness of cream, achieving a sweet, yet well-balanced experience.

The concept is complemented by the culinary proposal of executive chef Andrea Nardó, who has been an integral part of the creation of the project which opened its doors in January 2024. His international experience led him to create a menu based on Mediterranean and Asian flavors prepared with Mexican ingredients.
The menu is refreshed twice a year, reflecting the evolution of the concept and the preference of their patrons.

THE SUN WAS beginning to go down as we arrived at La Lancha Beach, located in the Punta de Mita area. After a short walk through the vegetation of the estuary, the ocean breeze announced our arrival to this paradise of perfect waves, where we would experience our first real encounter with surfing.
EL SOL COMENZABA a descender cuando llegamos a Playa La Lancha, ubicada en la zona de Punta de Mita. Después de una breve caminata entre la vegetación de un estero, la brisa marina nos anunciaba la llegada a este paraíso de olas perfectas, donde llevaríamos a cabo nuestro primer encuentro real con el surf.
Under the shade of the tree that frames the entrance to the beach, David Luengas, our instructor for the afternoon, was waiting for us. With a calm smile and a firm handshake, what would be an unforgettable experience began. As we walked down the beach to start the class, we watched surfers gliding effortlessly over the water.

“The waves here are true and constant, ideal for learning to surf,” he said.
Originally from Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, David possesses the serenity of someone who has grown up among waves. “The important thing about this first lesson is to find the flow point, that balance between being challenged and having fun,” he told us while placing a foam board down on the sand, perfect for beginners like us.
The class began with a warm-up on the sand, stretching movements to prepare the body, and a brief introduction to water safety. “Respect for the ocean is essential,” he emphasized. “Unlike other sports, here we can’t control the environment, but we can learn to read it and react correctly.” He explained to us how to hold the board, how to paddle and, above all, how to fall without hurting ourselves or hitting other surfers.
Then came practice. We lay down on the board, feeling its rough texture under our hands as we tried to imitate the movements that David demonstrated with astonishing ease. “First push with your arms, then bring one foot to the center and straighten up with your eyes straight ahead,” he told us. It really sounded simple. Theoretically.
The moment of truth comes when you enter the water. Although the waves seemed friendly from the shore, once in the water, we understood their true strength. David helped us position ourselves at the right point and gave us the initial push. “Paddle!” he shouted energetically as a wave lifted us up.
We tried to stand on our boards, but the first time we fell immediately. The second time, we managed to stay for a couple of seconds before losing balance and falling backwards into the

La clase comenzó con un calentamiento sobre la arena, movimientos de estiramiento para preparar el cuerpo y una breve introducción a la seguridad en el agua. “El respeto al mar es esencial”, enfatizó. “A diferencia de otros deportes, aquí no podemos controlar el entorno, pero sí podemos aprender a leerlo y reaccionar correctamente”. Nos explicó cómo sostener la tabla, cómo remar y, sobre todo, cómo caer sin lastimarnos, ni golpear a otros surfistas.
Luego vino la práctica. Nos acostamos sobre la tabla, sintiendo su textura rugosa bajo las manos mientras intentábamos imitar los movimientos que David demostraba con una facilidad pasmosa. “Primero empujen con los brazos, luego lleven un pie al centro y enderécense con la mirada al frente”, nos indicaba. Realmente sonaba sencillo. En teoría.
El momento de la verdad llegó al entrar al agua. Aunque las olas parecían amigables desde la orilla, dentro entendimos su verdadera fuerza. David nos ayudó a posicionarnos en el punto adecuado y nos dio el empujón inicial. “¡Remeeen!”, gritó con energía mientras una ola nos elevaba.
Intentamos pararnos sobre la tabla, pero la primera vez caímos de inmediato. La segunda logramos mantenernos un par de segundos antes de desestabilizarnos y caer de

water. But on the third try, we managed to advance a little more, feeling the adrenaline run through our body.
With each attempt, David adjusted our stance and encouraged us to continue. His patience and knowledge were evident. He grew up surfing the powerful waves of Oaxaca and has taught this sport for as long as he can remember, first to his friends and siblings, then to those who seek to experience the ocean in a new way. “Here in La Lancha, 90 percent of the people manage to stand up on the board in their first class,” he said. And he was right. After several fails and a couple of dunks into the ocean, we finally managed to surf to the shore.
Exhausted but euphoric, we came out of the water with smiles that were impossible to erase. Beyond teaching us the basics of this sport, David showed us a new way to connect with the ocean. “Surfing is not just about riding

Y tenía razón. Después de varios revolcones y un par de tragos de mar, logramos surfear hasta la orilla.
Agotados pero eufóricos, salimos del agua con una sonrisa imposible de borrar. Más allá de enseñarnos los fundamentos de este deporte, David nos mostró una nueva manera de conectar con el océano. “El surf no se trata solo de montar olas,
