Acknowledged with European Golf Development Award

Gillian Burrell, ένας άνθρωπος που έχει συνδέσει το όνομα του με την ανάπτυξη του γκολφ στην Ιρλανδία , βραβεύτηκε από το ευρωπαϊκό PGA για την προσφορά του. Στο ετήσιο γκαλά του ευρωπαΙκού PGA που πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Algarve της Πορτογαλίας, απονεμήθηκε στον Gillian Burrell το βραβείο του Προέδρου του Ευρωπαϊκού PGA για την ανάπτυξη του γκολφ. Το συγκεκριμένο βραβείο απονέμεται για την προσφορά ενός προσώπου ή ενός έργου μέσα από το οποίο επιτυγχάνεται η ανάπτυξη του γκολφ. Η προσφορά του Burrell τόσο με τη γυναικεία ομοσπονδία γκολφ της Ιρλανδίας, όσο και με τους Juniors είναι εντυπωσιακή. Προτάθηκε από το ιρλανδικό PGA για τη συνολική του προσφορά στο γκολφ και την ενασχόλησή του με τις μικρές ηλικίες αλλά και τη προσπάθεια για την ανάπτυξη του γκολφ σε αθλητές των Special Olympics και την προσφορά των τεχνικών του γνώσεων στους επαγγελματίες αθλητές του γκολφ. Παραλαμβάνοντας το βραβείο συγκινημένος ευχαρήστησε το κοινό με τα λόγια του μεγάλου Ιρλανδού ποιητή και θεατρικού συγγραφέα Όσκαρ Ουάλντ. «Η αληθινή τελειότητα του ανθρώπου βρίσκεται όχι στο τι έχει, αλλά στο τι είναι».

GA Fellow Professional, Gillian Burrell, has been awarded the President’s Award for Golf Development by the PGAs of Europe at the 2013 Annual Congress Gala Awards Dinner. The award acknowledges the work of an individual or a specific golfing project that has excelled in developing the game and Burrell was the deserving recipient in recognition of her work with the Irish Ladies Golfing Union and Junior Golf Ireland. Burrell was nominated by the PGA in Ireland for her work that has spanned many years in a number of areas in the game including grass roots and junior golf, as well as with the special Olympics and as a tutor for training PGA Professionals. “I am both delighted and honoured to receive the PGAs of Europe President’s Award for Golf Development this evening. As the Irish poet and playwright, Oscar Wilde, said ‘the aim of life is selfdevelopment, to realise ones nature perfectly, that’s what each of us is here for,” Burrell said during her acceptance speech at the Rolex supported Gala Awards Dinner hosted at Hotel Vila Galé Lagos, in Portugal’s Algarve region.

ΕΠΙΣΚΕΨΗ ΣΤΑ ΠΑΙΔΙΚΑ ΧΩΡΙΑ SOS ΣΤΗ ΒΑΡΗ

Η αποστολή βρέθηκε κοντά στα παιδιά, ξεναγήθηκε στις εγκαταστάσεις του χωριού και ενημερώθηκε για το σπουδαίο έργο που γίνεται για τα παιδιά που ξεκινούν τη ζωή τους υπό δυσκολότερες συνθήκες αλλά μεγαλώνουν με πολλή αγάπη χάρη στο έργο πολλών σπουδαίων ανθρώπων. he Board of Directors of the OGGA in cooperation with the Mayor of Glyfada GOLF Inc. visited SOS Children's villages in Vari. The visit took place on December 28 with children's Academy of the OGGA. The OGGA found near children, toured the village's facilities and updated for the great work that is done for children who start their lives under difficult conditions but grow up with much love thanks to the work of many great people. ραγματοποιήθηκε με επιτυχία την 1η Δεκεμβρίου ο αγώνας HON CUP 2013, με πρωτοβουλία του κυρίου Hans Otto Nagel, της συζύγου του κυρίας Harumi Nagel και του ΟΓΓΑ. Στον αγώνα συμμετείχαν 100 παίκτες και ύστερα από τη μεγάλη επιτυχία που είχε, αποφασίστηκε να πραγματοποιείται κάθε χρόνο και να αποτελέσει θεσμό. Κατά τη διάρκεια της απονομής των επάθλων, τα οποία κατασκεύασε ειδικά για την περίσταση ο κύριος Σταύρος Βανικιώτης, πραγματοποιήθηκε και λαχειοφόρος αγορά, τα έσοδα της οποίας θα βοηθήσουν την Ακαδημία του Ομίλου. Τα δώρα που δόθηκαν στους τυχερούς νικητές ήταν χορηγία του κυρίου Nagel και ήταν δωρεάν συμμετοχή στον Ελληνοτουρκικό Αγώνα Φιλίας 2014 που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Costa Navarino από 16-18 Μαΐου 2014 για 2 τυχερούς καθώς και αεροπορικά εισιτήρια με την Turkish Airlines για μετάβαση στην Τουρκία και ένας γύρος δωρεάν γκολφ στο

επιχείρηση δημιουργήθηκε στην Καλαμάτα από τον Γεώργιο Καλλικούνη, όταν επιστρέφοντας από τις σπουδές του στην Τεργέστη ως πτυχιούχος φυσικών επιστημών, ιδρύει στην σκιά του μεσαιωνικού κάστρου της πόλης το πρώτο ατμοκίνητο πνευματοποιείο. Με πρώτες υλες από την πλούσια αγροτική παραγωγή της Μεσσηνίας, ο νεαρός φυσικός παράγει μια μεγάλη σειρά αρωματικών αποσταγμάτων, που καταλήγουν στην παραγωγή ποτών με πρωτόγνωρες γεύσεις όπως μαστίχα, λεμόνι, γαρύφαλλο, αμύγδαλο. Το 1896 επισκέπτεται την Καλαμάτα ο γάλλος δημοσιογράφος Georges De Magris, ο οποίος γράφει εντυπωσιασμένος στην εφημερίδα «L’ Encyclopedie Contemporaine» της 29ης Μαρτίου για την ελληνική Ποτοποιία. Περίπου 2.000 άτομα επισκέπτονται καθημερινά το κατάστημα λιανικής πώλησης και δοκιμάζουν τα προϊόντα της εταιρείας. Την διεύθυνση της Ποτοποιίας έχει αναλάβει ο Νικόλαος Καλλικούνης, χημικός-οινολόγος με σπουδές στην Γαλλία, ο οποίος διαβλέποντας τα αδιέξοδα της εσωτερικής αγοράς στρέφεται αποφασιστικά προς το εξωτερικό, με συνεχή ταξίδια και συμμετοχή των προϊόντων της Ποτοποιίας σε πολλές διεθνείς εκθέσεις της Ευρώπης και της Αμερικής. Το δύσκολο για την εποχή εγχείρημα αποδεικνύεται απολύτως επιτυχές καθώς η

Ποτοποιία κερδίζει 46 χρυσά μετάλλια και Τιμητικά Διπλώματα απονομής διακρίσεων. Στην αρχή του εικοστού αιώνα πραγματοποιείται στο Παρίσι η μεγάλη Διεθνής Έκθεση στο Πεδίο του Άρεως. Ο Ν. Καλλικούνης συμμετέχει με περίπτερο όπου εκθέτονται όλα τα προϊόντα της εταιρίας και οι αντιδράσεις είναι τόσο ευνοϊκές ώστε το περίφημο Café Anglais παραγγέλνει μεγάλη ποσότητα ποτών ενώ το Cognac Callicouni Imperiale επιλέγεται για να κλείνει το περίφημο μενού «Trois Empereurs» σαν ποτό πρώτης επιλογής μετά το δείπνο. Το Café Anglais έκλεισε οριστικά το 1913 αλλά η παράδοση με την κάβα και τα περίφημα μενού του συνεχίζετε μέχρι σήμερα στο Tour d’ Argent, ένα από τα καλύτερα εστιατόριο στο Παρίσι. Μετά τον θάνατο του Ν. Καλικούνη, την επιχείρηση αναλαμβάνει η σύζυγός του Κλειώ Καλλικούνη μαζί με τις δύο αδελφές της. Οι τρείς γυναίκες αποδεικνύονται εξαιρετικά ικανές, κατορθώνουν να κρατήσουν όρθια την επιχείρηση στη δύσκολη περίοδο της μικρασιατικής καταστροφής, της οικονομικής κρίσης 19291931 και στις αναταράξεις του μεσοπολέμου. Το 1936 ο Νικόλαος Καλλικούνης ο νεώτερος, χημικός- οινολόγος του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, αναλαμβάνει την ευθύνη της Ποτοποιίας, της οποίας όμως η πορεία διακόπτεται κατά την ταραγμένη περίοδο

1940-1950. Ουσιαστικά η Ποτοποιία αρχίζει να επανακτά το παλαιό της κύρος και τη φήμη της μετά το τέλος του πολέμου: οι πωλήσεις και οι εξαγωγές διευρύνονται και το 1960 ο βασιλιάς Παύλος απονέμει στον Ν. Καλλικούνη τον τιμητικό τίτλο του Προμηθευτή της Βασιλικής Αυλής. visited Kalamata in 1896, and impressed by the Greek distillery, he wrote an article that was published in the 29 March edition of the L’ Encyclopedie Contemporaine newspaper. Each day, approximately 2,000 people visit the Callicounis shop in town and taste the products of the company. Nikolaos Callicounis, who studied chemistry and oenology in France, has undertaken the management of the Distillery. Realizing the local market was at an impasse, he focused on international sales, with continuous trips abroad and participation in international exhibitions in Europe and America. This venture, although challenging, proved entirely successful, as the Distillery has been awarded 46 gold medals and Certificates for its eclectic products. In 1900, the World Fair was held in Paris at the Champ de Mars. N. Callicounis participated in the Fair with a booth exhibiting all the products of the company and the response was gratifying. The renowned Café Anglais placed a large order, and the Callicounis Imperiale Cognac was selected as the digestif on the Trois Empereurs menu, the drink of choice after the evening meal. The Café Anglais closed its doors in 1913, but the traditions of its cellar and its wonderful menus continue to the present day at the Tour d’ Argent, one of the best restaurants in Paris. After the death of N. Callicounis, his wife Cleo Callicounis and her two sisters took on the management of the company. The three women proved extremely capable, and managed to steer the company through both the difficult period

of the Asia Minor disaster between 1929 and 1931, and the turbulent period between the two world wars. In 1936, Nikolaos Callicounis Junior, a chemist-oenologist educated at the Athens University, assumed responsibility for the Distillery, whose progress was interrupted during the tumultuous decade between 1940 and 1950. The Distillery regained its prestige and reputation after the war, when sales and exports increased. In 1960, King Paul awarded N. Callicounis with the honorary title, Supplier to the Royal Court. Exactly 130 years after the company was founded, the Callicounis Distilleries passed into the hands of the fourth generation of the family, Georgios and Vasileos Callicounis, who studied Physics and Chemistry ant the Universities of Strasbourg and Thessaloniki. They built a modern, 4,000 square metre facility in the industrial region of Kalamata, with the infrastructure to produce a wide range of alcoholic beverages, syrups, juices, etc. The Distillery offers spirits aged for a variety of years, from recently distilled to 40 years, which are used to produce the Brandy Alexander Imperial, a product of excellent quality. The specially constructed ageing facility for spirits and brandy houses 250 and 420 litre oak barrels, in which 25,000 litres of spirits and 22,000 litres of brandy are stored/aged for 3 to 45 years. Callicounis products are sold both domestically and have a strong presence in many countries abroad. Callicounis Ouzo can be purchased at all Duty Free Shops and is served on board several airlines. ι ήταν αυτό που προκάλεσε το ενδιαφέρον σας στο γκολφ; Όλα ξεκίνησαν το 1987. Βρισκόμουν στο Ντουμπάι για ένα επαγγελματικό ταξίδι και μετά την συνάντηση ξεκουραζόμουν στο δωμάτιο του ξενοδοχείου βλέποντας τηλεόραση. Έδειχνε ζωντανά τα εγκαίνια του γηπέδου γκολφ των Εμιράτων. Τον βρήκα πολύ ενδιαφέρον, αυτόν τον απέραντο πράσινο χώρο μέσα στη μέση της ερήμου, και είπα στον εαυτό μου, «ΠΡΕΠΕΙ να το δω αυτό το μέρος». Έτσι βρήκα έναν οδηγό που με πήγε εκεί κάτω. Με μάγεψε τόσο που αποφάσισα πως σίγουρα θα δοκίμαζα να παίξω. Ακόμα κι αν δεν αποδεικνυόμουν καλός παίκτης, θα ήμουν σε επαφή με τη φύση. Έτσι, πίσω στην Τουρκία, έγινα μέλος του Klassis Golf Club το 1994 (την χρονιά που άνοιξε). Για τα επόμενα 7 χρόνια συνέχισα να παίζω γκολφ, σκεπτόμουν ακόμα και ότι θα μπορούσα να γίνω επαγγελματίας. Σιγά σιγά όμως συνειδητοποίησα ότι το γκολφ δεν είναι καθόλου εύκολο. Ασχολούμαι με τον αθλητισμό από τα δώδεκα μου. Κάποτε έπαιζα ποδόσφαιρο, έκανα

ξιφασκία και έτρεχα στα 800 μέτρα, οπότε γνωρίζω πολύ καλά ότι αν δεν είσαι καλός αθλητής, ίσως να μπορείς να γίνεις καλός προπονητής. Αν και αυτό δεν μπορείς να το κάνεις, τότε ίσως να μπορείς να είσαι ένα καλό διοικητικό στέλεχος. Με αυτόν τον τρόπο έγινα πρόεδρος της Τουρκικής Ομοσπονδίας Γκολφ. Τι σημαίνει για εσάς το να είστε ο πρόεδρος της Τουρκικής Ομοσπονδίας του Γκολφ; Σημαίνει πολλά. Πρώτο απ’όλα, είναι μεγάλη τιμή. Όταν ανέλαβα το 2000, υπήρχαν μόνο 78 παίκτες στη χώρα και 6 γήπεδα γκολφ στο σύνολο. Δεν υπήρχαν επίσημοι εκπαιδευτές, ούτε διεθνείς αγώνες, ελάχιστοι εθνικοί αγώνες και το επίκεντρο της σκηνής του γκολφ περιοριζόταν στην Κωνσταντινούπολη και την Αττάλεια. Σε γενικές γραμμές ήταν ένα άγνωστο άθλημα. Τώρα έχουμε σχεδόν 6000 παίκτες, περίπου 300 εκπαιδευτές υψηλού επιπέδου και διεθνείς διαιτητές πιστοποιημένους από την R&A. Στη χώρα μας οργανώνονται 15 ή 16 διεθνή

δοτήσει κάθε σχέδιο που έχει να κάνει με τον αθλητισμό, εφόσον αυτό ακούγεται πραγματοποιήσιμο και ρεαλιστικό.

τουρνουά γκολφ, παίρνουμε μέρος σε περισσότερα από 15 διεθνή τουρνουά και πρωταθλήματα κάθε χρόνο, και τώρα έχουμε 20 γήπεδα γκολφ που ελπίζουμε πως θα γίνουν 40 ή 50 τα επόμενα 5 χρόνια. Όπως και να έχει, έχουμε επιτύχει πολλά. Και ας μην ξεχνάμε πως ξεκινήσαμε από το μηδέν. Ποιες είναι οι προτεραιότητες της Ομοσπονδίας; Καθώς ήδη έχουμε λάβει την άδεια από την κυβέρνηση, θα φτιάξουμε ένα γήπεδο γκολφ με 18 τρύπες και μια εθνική ακαδημία εκπαίδευσης εδώ στην Κωνσταντινούπολη. Επίσης, ένα γήπεδο με 9 τρύπες και μια ακαδημία γκολφ στην μέση της Ανατολίας, ανάμεσα στην Κωνσταντινούπολη και την Άγκυρα. Ακόμα έχουμε σκοπό να φτιάξουμε 2 ή 3 γήπεδα για προπονητικούς σκοπούς και για να αναπτύξουμε το γκολφ μέσα στα επόμενα χρόνια - και να αυξήσουμε τον αριθμό των παικτών σε 10.000 μέσα σε 3-4 χρόνια. Έχουμε 3 ή 4 πολύ ικανούς νεαρούς ερασιτέχνες παίκτες γκολφ τους οποίους σκοπεύουμε να στείλουμε στο European Tour. Μόλις αυτά τα παιδιά λάβουν μέρος στο European Tour, γίνουν επαγγελματίες και αρχίσουν να βγάζουν χρήματα από το γκολφ, ο χώρος του γκολφ θα αποκτήσει ώθηση. Οι περισσότεροι νέοι ενδιαφέρονται για το ποδόσφαιρο επειδή πληρώνει πολύ καλύτερα από όλα τα άλλα αθλήματα. Όμως, αν αυτοί οι νέοι συνειδητοποιήσουν ότι και το γκολφ έχει καλά λεφτά, είμαι σίγουρος ότι θα ενδιαφερθούν περισσότερο.

Πώς προωθείτε το γκολφ στην Τουρκία; Έχουμε ένα σχέδιο που εφαρμόζεται σε δημοτικά σχολεία σε όλη την χώρα. Ίσως να είναι αδύνατον να φτιάξουμε γήπεδα γκολφ στο Αζρού για παράδειγμα (τα σύνορα με το Ιράν), επειδή αυτό θα απαιτούσε τεράστια χρηματική δαπάνη, αλλά υπάρχουν διαθέσιμες κλειστές προπονητικές εγκαταστάσεις. Έτσι, στέλνουμε προπονητές και δασκάλους να εκπαιδεύσουν τα παιδιά για ένα χρόνο και από κάθε περιοχή επιλέγουμε 30, 40 ή ακόμα και 50 μαθητές για τις χειμερινές και καλοκαιρινές μας εκπαιδευτικές κατασκηνώσεις, που βρίσκονται στην Κωνσταντινούπολη και την Αττάλεια. Ό,τι μάθουν στις κλειστές εγκαταστάσεις μπορεί να εφαρμοστεί στις επαγγελματική καριέρα τους. Όλο αυτό ξεκίνησε το 2004. Το 2006, ξεκινήσαμε μια εθνική Κατηγορία Γκολφ Νέων, η οποία δίνει στα αγόρια την ευκαιρία να επιδείξουν τις ικανότητες τους. Φυσικά καλύπτουμε όλα τα έξοδα τους. Αεροπορικά εισιτήρια, εξοπλισμό, ξενοδοχεία και ό,τι άλλο προκύψει. Μέχρι το 2006, τα χρήματα αυτά προέρχονταν από την Τουρκική Ομοσπονδία Γκολφ. Από το 2006 και μετά όμως, έχουμε λάβει γενναιόδωρη χρηματοδότηση από τον εθνικό προϋπολογισμό και το Υπουργείο Αθλητισμού. Η κυβέρνηση πλέον επιδοτεί το 85% του προϋπολογισμού μας. Μπορώ να σας δώσω ένα νούμερο, δεν είναι μυστικό: πέρσι λάβαμε επιδότηση ύψους περίπου 1.5 εκατομμυρίων δολαρίων. Μάλιστα, το Υπουργείο Αθλητισμού προτίθεται να χρηματο-

Ετοιμάζεστε για τους Ολυμπιακούς του 2016 στο Ρίο; Έχουμε υπογράψει συμβόλαιο με τον βοηθό προπονητή της ομάδας ανδρών της Σκωτίας, Κύριο Σπένσερ Άντερσον. Ήταν προπονητής όταν η εθνική ομάδα ανδρών της Σκωτίας κέρδισε το Πρωτάθλημα Αυστραλίας. Ο πρώτος μας στόχος ήταν το Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα Ερασιτεχνικών Ομάδων, έπειτα να βγάζαμε ένα ή δύο παίκτες μας για το European Tour - o Hamza Sayin είναι παίκτης του European Tour- και να ετοιμαστούμε για τους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του 2016. Αναμφίβολα αυτό ήταν μεγάλη επιτυχία αλλά η προσωπική μου συμβολή σε αυτήν την επιτυχία δεν αποτελούσε περισσότερο από το 10%. Το 90% ήταν τύχη. Λένε πως πρέπει να είσαι στο σωστό μέρος τη σωστή στιγμή. Όμως, πώς ξέρεις πως θα είσαι στο σωστό μέρος; Μπορείς να κάνεις τεράστιες επενδύσεις και ατελείωτους υπολογισμούς αλλά υπάρχουν ακόμα κάποια πράγματα που δεν είναι δυνατόν να προβλεφτούν και αυτό πάλι έχει να κάνει με την τύχη. Σας ευχαριστώ πολύ, αισθάνομαι πως είμαι στο σωστό μέρος, στη σωστή στιγμή και με τον σωστό άνθρωπο! Στην πραγματικότητα είμαστε πάντοτε στο σωστό μέρος στη σωστή στιγμή! Απλά πρέπει να είμαστε και λίγο τυχεροί. Δεν μπορείς ποτέ να γνωρίζεις τη μοίρα σου, υπάρχει όμως πάντα ένα καλός λόγος για τα πάντα. Εάν σκέφτεσαι έτσι, το πιθανότερο ότι θα προοδεύσεις. Ποτέ μην σχεδιάζεις την κάθε μελλοντική λεπτομέρεια. Ποτέ δεν ξέρεις τι θα φέρει το αύριο.

hat was it that sparked your interest in golf? It all started in 1987. I was in Dubai for a business trip and after the meeting I was resting in the hotel room watching TV and the opening ceremony of the Emirates golf course was being broadcast live. I found it all very interesting, that huge green space in the middle of the desert, and I said to myself, “I HAVE to see this place”. So I found a driver who took me down there and I was so captivated, that I decided that I should definitely have a go at it. Even if I didn’t turn out to be a good player, I would be in contact with nature. So, back in Turkey, I joined Klassis Golf Club in 1994 (the year that it opened). For the next 7 years I kept playing golf, even thinking I could become a professional, but I slowly realized that golf wasn’t that easy after all. I’ve been into sports ever since I was 12. I used to play football, fence and run 800 meters, so I am well aware that if you’re not a good athlete, you might make a good coach, and if you can’t do that either, then you can make a good administrator. And that’s how I became the president of the Turkish Golf Federation. What does it mean to you, being the president of the Turkish Golf Federation? It means a lot. First of all, it’s a big honour. When I took over in 2000 there were only 78 licensed players in the country and 6 golf courses in total. There were no official trainers, no international competitions, few national competitions, and the golf scene was limited to Istanbul and Antalya. On the whole, it was an unknown sport. Now we have almost 6000 licensed players, about 300 top-ranking golf trainers, and international referees certified by the R&A. 15 or 16 international golf tournaments are organized in the country, we participate in more than 15 international tournaments and championships every single year, and we now have 20 golf courses which will hopefully increase to 40 or 50 in the next 5 years. All in all, we have achieved quite a lot. And, let’s not forget that we started from zero. What are the federation’s priorities? Having already obtained permission from the government, we will build one 18-hole golf course, and a national teaching academy here

in Istanbul, plus a 9-hole course and golf academy in the middle of Anatolia, between Istanbul and Ankara. We also aim to build 2 or 3 courses for training purposes and for developing golf, in the next few years - and to increase the number of players up to 10,000, within 3-4 years. We have 3 or 4 very skilled young golf amateur players, who we plan to take to the European Tour. Once these boys enter the European tour, become professionals and start earning money from golf, the golf scene in the country will get a boost. Most of the youngsters are interested

my contribution to this success was not more than ten percent. ninety percent was luck. in football because it pays much better than all other sports. But if these youngsters realize that there is also good money in golf, I’m sure they will become more interested. How do you promote golf in Turkey? We have a project in with primary schools all around the country. It might be impossible to build golf courses in, say, Azru (the Iranian border), because a huge amount of money is needed, but indoor training facilities are available. So we send coaches and instructors to train the children for one year, and from every district we select 30, 40 or even 50 students for our winter and summer training camps, which are located in Istanbul and Antalya. What they learn in the indoor facilities can be applied in their professional careers. That all started in 2004. In 2006 we started a national Junior Golf League, which gives the boys the opportunity to show off their abilities. We cover all their expenses, of course. Flights, equipment, hotels, you name it. Until 2006, this money came from the Turkish Golf Federation. But, since 2006, we have

received generous funding from the national budget and the Ministry of Sports. The government now subsidizes 85% of our budget. I can give you a figure, it’s not a secret: last year we received a subsidy of about 1.5 million US dollars. In fact, the Ministry of Sports is willing to finance any sports-related project, as long as it sounds plausible and realistic. Are you preparing for the 2016 Olympics in Rio? We have signed a contract with the assistant coach of the men’s team of Scotland, Mr. Spencer Anderson. He was the coach when the Scottish national men’s team won the Australian Championship. Our first target was the World Amateur Team Championship, then were aim to introduce a couple of our players in the European tour, already Hamza Sayin is a European Tour payer, and prepare ourselves for the Olympic Games in 2016. Andersen has proposed a realistic program for 2016. Every single sportsman dreams of being in the Olympics, just being there, among the 10,000 competitors. This is one of the few dreams that I still haven’t managed to realize, and now I have the chance to be part of it, not as a competitor, but as the Federation’s president. Do you believe in luck? Of course I do. I used to be a Captain, that’s my profession. From working on ships, I became a ship owner with 18 ships in my fleet. There is no doubt that this was a huge success, but my personal contribution to this success was not more than 10%. 90% was luck. People say that you have to be in the right place at the right time. But how do you know that you will be in the right place? It’s all about luck. You can make huge investments and endless calculations but there are still some things that can’t be predicted, and that again is all about luck. Thank you very much, I feel like I’ m in the right place, at the right time and with the right person! Actually, we are always in the right place at the right time! We just have to be a bit lucky too. You can never know your destiny, but there is always a very good reason for everything. If you think this way, you will probably go far in life. Never plan every single detail ahead; you never know what tomorrow will bring.

ως ξεκίνησες να ασχολείσαι με το γκολφ? Πόσο καιρό παίζεις? Πριν τρεισήμισι χρόνια ο πατέρας μου είχε μία συνάντηση στο γκολφ της Γλυφάδας και του είπα πως θέλω να πάω να δω τι είναι το γκολφ. Εκεί γνώρισα τον κύριο Γιώργο Γκίνη και μου πρότεινε να πάω να δοκιμάσω να χτυπήσω μπάλες. Έτσι κόλλησα το μικρόβιο και αποφάσισα να ασχοληθώ με το γκολφ. Σημαίνει κάτι ιδιαίτερο για εσένα το γκολφ? Για μένα το γκολφ είναι τρόπος ζωής όπως και για κάθε γκόλφερ. Κανείς από όλους εμάς δεν θα μπορούσε να μην το συμπεριλάβει στη καθημερινότητά του. Συνεπώς μπορώ να πω ότι είναι κάτι ιδιαίτερο στη ζωή μου και είμαι σίγουρος πως σε όλη μου τη ζωή θα είναι ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά πράγματα. Ασχολείσαι με άλλα αθλήματα; Ασχολιόμουν με το ποδόσφαιρο αλλά μετά από ένα σοβαρό πρόβλημα υγείας το σταμάτησα και αφοσιώθηκα μόνο στο γκολφ. Πόσες ώρες αφιερώνεις για προπόνηση; Τι είδους προπόνηση κάνεις; Πρώτα από όλα εξαρτάται από τους αγώνες που έχω στο κοντινό μέλλον και ανάλογα διαμορφώνω τις ώρες προπόνησης και το είδος της. Πριν από κάθε μεγάλο αγώνα αυξάνω τις ώρες και προπονούμαι εντατικά στο short game γιατί αυτό είναι που θα μου εξασφαλίσει το καλό score. Κάθε φόρα όμως ανεξάρτητα από τους αγώνες που έχω πηγαίνω στο driving range και προπονούμαι αλλά φροντίζω να έχω και τη φυσική μου κατάσταση σε εξαιρετικό επίπεδο. Ο προπονητής σου; Ο προπονητής μου είναι ο Θανάσης Καρατζιάς ο οποίος με έχει βοηθήσει πάρα πολύ και τον ευχαριστώ γι αυτό. Η στήριξή του είναι πολύτιμη όχι μόνο στο πλαίσιο του παιχνιδιού αλλά και έξω από αυτό. Έχεις κάποιο αδύνατο σημείο στο παιχνίδι σου που το δουλεύεις στη προπόνηση; Το μόνιμο πρόβλημα που έχω είναι το driver και προσπαθώ πολύ να το κοντρολάρω με πολλές προσπάθειες. Άλλο ένα σημείο το οποίο δεν είναι καθόλου σταθερό στο παιχνίδι μου είναι το putt αλλά δυστυχώς δεν υπάρχει και ο κατάλληλος χώρος εξάσκησης. Ποια είναι τα μελλοντικά σου σχέδια; Πρώτα από όλα σκέφτομαι να σπουδάσω στο εξωτερικό golf management αλλά ταυτόχρονα θέλω να συμμετέχω και σε αγώνες υψηλού επιπέδου έτσι ώστε να αποκτήσω εμπειρίες. Άλλο ένα όνειρο όπως και κάθε έφηβου είναι να φτάσω σε όσο υψηλότερο επίπεδο μπορώ και να μείνω εκεί. Θαυμάζεις κάποιον παίκτη του γκολφ; Ο αγαπημένος μου παίχτης είναι ο Rory Mcilroy τον οποίο έχω ως πρότυπο καθώς ήταν ο πρώτος μεγάλος παίχτης που είδα από κοντά. Βέβαια είναι

αδύνατο να βγάλω από αυτή τη λίστα τον Tiger Woods αφού είναι ο άνθρωπος που έχει προσφέρει πολλά στο παγκόσμιο γκολφ και είναι με πολύ μεγάλη διαφορά ο καλύτερος παίχτης όλων των εποχών. Μου αρέσει πολύ και ο Adam Scott. Αγαπημένο σου γήπεδο; Έχω πολλά γήπεδα που μου αρέσουν αλλά ξεχωρίζω το GREENBRIER OLD WHITE COURSE γιατί είναι κάτι ξεχωριστό να παίζεις γκολφ και να ξέρεις ότι έχουν παίξει οι καλύτεροι παίχτες του κόσμου και να βλέπεις τα lockers που άλλαζαν. Καλύτερό σου παιχνίδι μέχρι σήμερα?;Το καλύτερο round της μικρής μου καριέρας ήταν στη Γερμανία που κατάφερα να βγάλω 70 χτυπήματα στο τρίτο γύρο στο European Young Masters το προηγούμενο καλοκαίρι καθώς είχα 16 green in regulations και είχα ένα καταπληκτικό long game. Αξέχαστη στιγμή; Δεν θα ξεχάσω ποτέ την συνομιλία μου με τον sir Nick Faldo για δύο λεπτά περίπου, πριν βγει για golf clinic ο Rory Mcilroy. Πρόσφατα συμμετείχες στον τελικό του FALDO SERIES. Πως ήταν; Ήταν ξεχωριστή εμπειρία γιατί ήταν η πρώτη φορά που πήγα στις Η.Π.Α και ένοιωθα πολύ περίεργα. Μου άρεσε πάρα πολύ το κλήμα που επικρατούσε πριν και μετά τον αγώνα σε όλους τους χώρους του γηπέδου. Ο εσωτερικός χώρος ήταν γεμάτος από φωτογραφίες οι οποίες παρουσίαζαν όλους τους παίχτες που έχουν περάσει από το γηπεδο και αυτό μου δημιουργούσε ένα τρομερό συναίσθημα. Έχεις φέρει φίλους σου να δοκιμάσουν να παίξουν γκολφ; Έχουν έρθει δύο φορές και τους άρεσε αρκετά μπορώ να πω αλλά κανείς από αυτούς δεν κόλλησε όπως εγώ. Από την άλλη όμως όταν έφερα να παίξει πρώτη φορά η αδερφή μου άρχισε να παίζει σαν εμένα συστηματικά και με μεγάλο πάθος. Γιατί να ασχοληθεί κάποιος με το γκολφ; Είναι ένα ξεχωριστό άθλημα το οποίο απαιτεί πολλά χαρίσματα και αυτό το κάνει ένα από τα πιο δύσκολα αθλήματα στον κόσμο. Επίσης μέσα από αυτό γνωρίζεις καινούριο κόσμο και κάνεις φίλους από άλλες χώρες.

hen was your first golf experience? Three and a half years ago my father had a meeting in Glyfada Golf Course and I told him how I want to play golf. Mr. George Ginis saw me and told me to make a try and I decide to try it out. I was thrilled and wanted to play golf every day. Does golf means something special for you golf? For me golf is a way of life as well as for any golfer. None of us could live without it.

Therefore I can say that is something special in my life and I'm sure that my whole life will be one of the most important things. Would you like any other sports? I was played football but after a serious health problem I stopped and I devoted myself only in golf. How many hours devote for training? What kind of training do? It depends on the tournaments schedule that I have in the near future and configure the hours of training and the type of. Before every important tournament adding extra hours for training and do much workout in the short game because that's what will give the good score. Any other day regardless of the races, I hit several balls go to the driving range. What about your coach? My coach is Thanasis Karatzias who has helped me immensely and I thank him a lot because his support is valuable as it helps me not only during the game. Do you have any weakness in your game where you work during your training? I have a problem with the driver and I try to contol with lots of effort. Another point which is not fixed in my game is the putt, but it is due and the non-training facilities. What are your future plans? I'm thinking to study golf management but at the same time I want to participate in golf tournaments to get experience. Dreaming like as any teenage to get to the higher level in golf and stay there. Do you have any other particular player who inspiring you? My favorite player is Rory McIlroy whom I have as idol as it was the first great player I saw up close. Of course it is impossible to draw from this list Tiger Woods since he is the man who has brought a lot to the world of golf and is by far the best player of all time. I really like also Adam Scott. What is your favorite golf course? I have a lot of courses but I played in the «Greenbrier Old White Course». My favorite one, because their they have played the best players of the world. Your best game until now? The best round of my short career was in Germany, that I managed to get 70 in the third round in the European Young Masters last summer as I had 16 green in regulations and had amazing long game. A memorable moment? When I spoke personally with sir Nick Faldo for two minutes before Rory Mcilroy coming out for golf clinic. You were recently participate in the final of the FALDO SERIES. It was memorable experience because it was first time I went in the USA. I liked very much the tournament. I think it was brilliant in all levels. The interior was full of photographs from all players who have passed through the golf course and was an amazing feeling.

BILL COORE and Ben Crenshaw completed an extensive restoration of this Donald Ross masterpiece in March 2011. Thus, Pinehurst No. 2 will have a very different look than it did at the 1999 and 2005 U.S. Opens, won by Payne Stewart and Michael Campbell, respectively. Fairway widths have been increased to offer more strategic options. Also, several bunkers have been restored, eliminated, or reshaped based on aerial images of the course from the 1940s. In addition, the USGA has decided to lengthen the par-four 5th hole and play it as a par five for the Open while shortening the par-five 4th hole and playing it as a par four.

after both had finished at18-under-par 270, five strokes clear of the rest of the field. Under Nicklaus’s direction, a year-long, multi-million-dollar renovation was completed in September 2012. All 18 greens were rebuilt to USGA specifications, a new, state-of-the-art irrigation system was put in place, and a more heat-tolerant bent grass was installed. Alterations were made to nearly every hole. Improvements also were made to the spectator experience, including softening the slope behind the 18th green, which provides a natural amphitheater for thousands of spectators.

Είστε ο πρώτος Τούρκος γκολφέρ που συμμετέχει στο European Tour. Αυτό σας κάνει καλύτερο παίκτη; Είναι τρομερό το συναίσθημα από τη συμμετοχή μου στο European Tour και σίγουρα

ανεκτίμητη εμπειρία. Τιποτα όμως δε σε κάνει καλύτερο γκόλφερ από τη σκληρή δουλειά στη προπόνηση. Προπονούμαι σκληρά 15 χρόνια για να μπορέσω να γίνω μέρος του European Tour. Πραγματοποίησα ένα όνειρο που είχα από την ηλικία των 12 ετών... του practice round, ένα σμήνος από τεράστιες χήνες μου επιτέθηκε. Οι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες του Ρίο απέχουν μόλις δύο χρόνια. Είναι στα σχέδιά σας; Μα και βέβαια. Τόσο εγώ όσο και ο κ. Αάογλου, ο Πρόεδρος της Τουρκικής Ομοσπονδίας Γκολφ, θέλουμε να συμμετέχουμε, αλλά το πιο βασικό είναι να καταφέρω να κρατήσω το παιχνίδι μου σε υψηλό επίπεδο για τα επόμενα δύο χρόνια περίπου. Το γκολφ στη Τουρκία αναπτύσεται ραγδαία... Το γκόλφ στη Τουρκία έχει πολύ σημαντική θέση στην ανάπτυξη του τουρισμού και η Ομοσπονδία είναι πολύ καλά προετοιμασμένη. Η Ομοσπονδία με στηρίζει δεκαπέντε χρόνια τώρα σε όλες μου τις απαιτήσεις, όπως και άλλους συναθλητές μου. Άλλωστε η ομοσπονδία είναι αυτή που προωθεί και αναπτύσει το γκολφ στη Τουρκία τα τελευταία δώδεκα χρόνια.

What's the funniest thing that ever happened to you on the golf course? *2010 WATC (Argentina) I was playing my practice round and a kind of huge duck has attacked to me. It was funny and interesting thing. What are your favorite courses? Real Club de Golf Sotogrande & Valderrama Golf Club. The Olympics are two years away. Is this your future target? Yes me and Mr. A ao lu(president) we want to join and play at the Olympics but in these two years I should hold my game on high level. Can you tells about golf growth in Turkey? Golf has a very big potential in Τurkey as a tourism and performance sport. The federation has very good preperations. I am a player of Turkish Golf Federation and they had supported me almost 15 years as financial and all my other requests. But we have a very long way to be at good position and we are working for that.

ου φαινόταν απίθανο ότι ο νεαρός με τον πονοκέφαλο που καθόταν δίπλα μου στην πτήση της Turkish Airlines για την Αττάλεια, θα ήταν τελικά αυτός που θα κατακτούσε έξι μέρες μετά το Turkish Airlines Open. O 23 χρονος Γάλλος Victor Dubuisson ανέτρεψε όλα τα προγνωστικά και απέναντι στα μεγάλα ονόματα του γκολφ, επέδειξε εξαιρετική σταθερότητα στο παιχνίδι του και κατέκτησε το πρώτο μεγάλο τουρνουά της καριέρας του. Παρ' ότι πίστευα ότι ο Henrik Stenson ή ο "Ιcon" Ian Poulter θα κατακτούσε το τουρνουά, ομολογώ ότι ο εντυπωσιακός Γάλλος με κέρδισε με το παιχνίδι του και με την συμπεριφορά του. Το τουρνουά φιλοξενήθηκε στις εκπληκτικές εγκαταστάσεις του Maxx Royal και το γήπεδο ίσως να είναι το μέχρι τώρα αριστούργημα του θρύλου του Ryder Cup, Colin Montgomerie. Τα bunker fairways απειλητικά για όσους έχαναν την ευθεία, αλλά ακόμα και στo rough είχες καθαρό κτύπημα. Από την πρώτη μέρα ο νεαρός Γάλλος έδειξε τις διαθέσεις του. Με εξαιρετικά drivers κάλυπτε τις αποστάσεις με ευκολία. Κάτι που εντυπωσίασε και τον Ian Poulter στην τρύπα Νο11 par 5, που ενώ θεωρούσε ότι είχε κάνει το μακρύτερο drive, βρέθηκε 20 περίπου μέτρα πίσω από τον Dubuisson. Τη δεύτερη μέρα ο νεαρός Γάλλος ήταν εντυπωσιακός και βρέθηκε στο τέλος της να προηγείται με -12. Παίζοντας στρατηγικά τη τελευταία μέρα κατάφερε να αντισταθεί στην

επίθεση που εξαπέλυσε ο Poulter και να κερδίσει τελικά το τουρνουά. Το Turkish Airlines Open εξελίσσεται σε ένα από τα σημαντικότερα τουρνουά της Μεσογείου. Είναι ίσως ένα από τα λίγα τουρνουά που μπορείς να απολαύσεις τόσους παίκτες υψηλού επιπέδου να συναγωνίζονται. Σίγουρα ίσως το μοναδικό τουρνουά που μπορούμε ως Ευρωπαίοι να θαυμάσουμε τον Tiger Woods. Τώρα που ανέφερα Tiger Woods. Αναμφισβήτητα παραμένει ο σταρ του αθλήματος. Η συμπεριφορά του, οι κινήσεις του, ο τρόπος που παίζει είναι κάτι ανεπανάληπτο. Οποιαδήποτε περιγραφή απέχει πολύ από την πραγματικότητα. Αυτό που έχει καταφέρει η Turkish Airlines σε διάστημα δύο χρόνων είναι εντυπωσιακό. Έχει καταφέρει να στρέψει τα φώτα της δημοσιότητας στη γείτονα χώρα με τα πλεονεκτήματα αυτής της διοργάνωσης να είναι πολυάριθμα και πολυεπίπεδα για τη Τουρκία. Αυτό είναι προσωπική επιτυχία του Προέδρου

της Τουρκικής Ομοσπονδίας Γκολφ, κ. Άμετ Αάογλου, η προσπάθεια του οποίου και τα αποτελέσματα που έχει επιτύχει σε τόσολίγο χρονικό διάστημα, είναι συγκινιτική. Είχα τη τύχη να ζήσω από κοντά την αγωνία του για την επιτυχία της διοργάνωσης αλλά και για την εμφάνιση του Hamza Sayin, του πρώτου Τούρκου γκολφέρ που συμμετέχει στο European Tour. Είχα την τιμή να παίξω στο ProAm του τουρνουά με τον Hamza και να διαπιστώσω πόσο πραγματικά καλός παίκτης είναι όπως και να τον ευχαριστήσω για τις πολύτιμες συμβουλές του κατά τη διάρκεια του παιχνιδιού.Στα υπέρ της διοργάνωσης το εξαιρετικό service των διοργανωτών σε όλα τα επίπεδα. Υπερβολικά ίσως σε κάποια σημεία τα μέτρα ασφαλείας για τον Tiger Woods αλλά κατανοητά καθώς ήταν το μεγάλο όνομα του τουρνουά. Εκπληκτική και η προσπάθεια της Turkish Airlines που διοργανώνει ένα από τα καλύτερα τουρνουά της χρονιάς.

e had to hold off a hard-charging Jamie Donaldson after he made an ace at the 16th hole, but 23 yearold Victor Dubuisson from France got his first European Tour victory at the Turkish Airlines Open on Sunday afternoon. Donaldson hit a great shot on the par five 18th hole, and had a run at an eagle that would have gotten him into the clubhouse with a one-shot lead. He burned the cup, but only managed birdie and a tie for the lead that lasted 15 seconds. The young Frenchman closed the door with his own birdie at the 15th hole. Victor Dubuisson started the day with a five-shot lead at the Montgomerie Maxx Golf Course in Atayla, Turkey, and was only able to manage pars on the front nine. After sensing the charge from the Welchman, Dubuisson, kicked his game up a notch on the stretch run, to post the win. After he birdied 10, and bogeyed 14, he put on a show, going three under on the final four holes. The young Frenchman, from

Cannes, is virtually unknown. He was ranked 108th in the world, and 49th in Race To Dubai points. The win on Sunday pushes him up to 7th place in the Race To Dubai championship for next week’s finale’. I felt so much pressure on the last hole. “Holing this putt on 17 was like; it was incredible. It was incredible, and the birdie on 18, it’s a bonus. “But even on the last putt, I was feeling so much stress. After this day, it was the longest day on the course that I’ve ever had. I’m very proud of what I did.” Jamie Donaldson went low in the final round, and with the ace, fired a closing nine under par 63, but came up two shots shy of the win. He couldn’t overcome the mediocre play on Thursday and Friday at a golf course where

you needed birdies to win. The world’s number one, Tiger Woods knew he had to go out on Sunday, and make a lot of birdies if he wanted to have a chance. His closing 67 was valiant, but he only made up two shots on Dubuisson at the end of the day. Woods, who was in Turkey because of a $3 Million Dollar appearance fee, finished tied for third place with US Open Champ, Justin Rose. Race to Dubai leader, Henrik Stenson, and number four in points, Ian Poulter both played decently on Sunday, but couldn’t manage enough birdies to keep pace. Stenson finished up with a three under par 69 to share seventh place with Marc Warren from Scotland, and Bernd Wiesberger from Austria. Wiesberger mad a run on Sunday with an eight under 64, but finished eight shots off the lead. Ian Poulter was only able to manage a three under 69 in the finale, and ended the day, five shots back at 19 under par and tied for fifth place with Frenchman, Raphael Jacquelin.

υτό το κομμάτι της νοτιοδυτικής Βρετανίας είναι μια ξεχωριστή χώρα με 641 κάστρα, 647 μίλια ακτογραμμής και 200 γήπεδα γκολφ. Ονομάζεται Cymru, έχει τη δική της κουλτούρα και φυσικά τη δική της γλώσσα (απόγονο των κελτικών) που όταν τη βλέπεις στις επιγραφές και τις πινακίδες ή την ακούς στις παμπ, παραπέμπει αμέσως σε παραμύθι. Οι κάτοικοί της διαθέτουν τεράστια χαμόγελα και ανοιχτή καρδιά, ενώ τα καταπράσινα λιβάδια, οι λίμνες και τα ποτάμια δικαιολογούν το ψευδώνυμο «μεγάλη ύπαιθρος» της Βρετανίας. Ο κόκκινος δράκος, το σύμβολο της σημαίας της Ουαλίας από τον πόλεμο των ρόδων το 1485, καλωσορίζει τον επισκέπτη σε αυτό το ιδιαίτερο σταυροδρόμι πολιτισμών. Το Celtic Manor Resort είναι για τους γκολφερ, ένας από τους προορισμούς που είναι στα must do, για το 2014. Περιλαμβάνει τρία γήπεδα γκολφ, ένα εκ των. οποίων και το περίφημο Twenty Ten, που φιλοξένησε το

Ryder Cup to 2010. Τα Montgomerie, Roman Road, Twenty Ten, είναι τρία εκπληκτικά γήπεδα που ακολουθούν το ανάγλυφο της ουαλικής γής πάνω στα οποία οι καλύτεροι επαγγελματίες του γκολφ ξεδιπλώνουν τις ικανότητές τους. Το Montgomerie, όπως είναι φανερό και από το όνομά του σχεδιάστηκε από τον θρύλο του γκολφ Colin Montgomerie και λειτούργησε για πρώτη φορά το 2007. Η πρόκληση στο γήπεδο δεν είναι τόσο ο σχεδιασμός του, θα τολμούσα να πω ότι δεν είχε και πολλά περιθώρια ο Montgomerie, όσο το ανάγλυφο πάνω στιο οποίο σχεδιάστηκε. Αν αποφασίσεις να παίξεις χωρίς buggy και τις 18 τρύπες, θα έχεις αποκτήσει τέλεια φυσική κατάσταση. Η μορφολογία του εδάφους από τρύπα σε τρύπα είναι εντυπωσιακή. Η μία ανηφόρα διαδέχεται την άλλη με μικρά διαλείματα στο back nine και το μόνο ευχάριστο είναι ότι το γήπεδο είναι μόνο 5823 μέτρα και par 69. Έχεις την αίσθηση ότι βρίσκεσαι στο

τρενάκι του τρόμου και ο δράκος παραμονεύει στις δύο πολύ μακριές par 5, και συμπληρώνονταο από πέντε par 3 και έντεκα par 4. To Roman Road απλώνεται στους κυματιστούς λόφους προς τις εκβολές του ποταμού Severn και προσφέρει μια υπέροχη θέα σε όλη την περιφέρεια του Somerset. Σχεδιάστηκε από τον Robert Trent Jones Senior και λειτούργησε για πρώτη φορά το 1995. Τα fairway του είναι σχεδιασμένα πάνω στο αρχαίο ρωμαϊκό δρόμο στον οποίο χάθηκε η θρυλική 9η ρωμαϊκή λεγεώνα. Αυτό δηλώνει άλλωστε και η ονομασία του. Το γήπεδο έχει μήκος 5943 μ΄έτρα και είναι par 70. Χαρακτηριστικό του γηπέδου είναι τα μεγάλα bunkers αλλά και τα ιδιαίτερα slopes των greens. Όταν το 2001 αποφασίστηκε το 38ο Ryder Cup να πραγματοποιηθεί στο Celtic Manor Resort το φθινόπωρο του 2010, ο Terry Matthews, ιδιοκτήτης του Celtic Manor Resort, αποφάσισε να κατασκευάσει το πρώτο γήπεδο γκολφ που έγινε

he Celtic Manor is a 5 Star resort set on the mountains near Newport. The first impressions I got on arrival were that you’d have to be incredibly fit to make your way around, as it is absolutely huge. Don’t let the steep incline put you off though, the helpful concierge will assist your parking up in the underground car park. The lobby area was full of light and we were greeted not just by smiling staff but two Welsh dragons wrapped around the pillars. The Celtic Manor Resort's three golf courses, including its newest, the 2010 Ryder Cup host Twenty Ten Course, are stages for the world's top pros every year. But the recreational, vacationing golfer will likely enjoy the new Montgomerie Course more than the Twenty Ten, which was designed with the Ryder Cup Matches in mind more than the mid-handicapper. The Montgomerie is the product of a redesign, using nine holes from the former Wentworth course. Despite being redesigned by PGA Tour pro Colin Montgomerie, this is no tour venue. It's too short

at just 6,369 yards and a par 69, and is too hilly to move spectators around comfortably. In fact, its land is so undulating that golfers are encouraged to take a buggy. But this dramatic, roller-coaster land makes it one of the more exciting rounds you play in the British Isles. Seemingly no shot is played to the same elevation as the last, and there are some spectacular downhill shots certain to give you an adrenaline rush. The first of which comes on the third hole. After two flatter opening holes, this par-5 is an epic. The tee shot teases you a little, demanding a slightly uphill shot framed by a line of pines with an opening you have to aim through. The second shot is what knocks your socks off. It tumbles downhill steeply to the green from about 300 yards out, and is panoramically framed by the stunning and lush Usk Valley. From the green, you look back up the fairway and wonder how exactly you made it all the way down here, and hundreds of feet below are the low-lying holes of the new Twenty Ten course next door, which doesn't boast an adrenaline-pumping

hole like this one. Though Montgomerie's on the short side in terms of yardage, it still features plenty of sneaky-long holes, especially since the shorter of the par 4s generally play uphill. Drivers and 3-woods are the norm off the tee, although steep pot bunkers litter the fairway, a result of Monty's redesign - he intended for all the bunkers here to serve as a half-shot penalty. The only significant water hazard comes into play on the 10th - a strategic, downhill par 4 that demands a lay-up in front of a pond, followed by a delicate pitch shot to a shallow, firm green. In fact, most of the greens, which are in their first year of growth, are still very firm and should soften up a good deal in the next year. The final two holes leave you with a great lasting impression and a chance at a few birdies. The 17th is drivable for longer hitters at only about 280 yards. The 18th features an elevated tee shot that lets you blast it over some trees below to cut off the dogleg left as much as you wish, leaving you with as little as a pitch into the elevated green.

Mid-handicappers especially may enjoy the shorter, exciting Montgomerie course more than the newer Twenty Ten course in a lot of ways. It's more than 1000 yards shorter, and its land is more dramatic. It's too sloping for championship golf, but just right for plenty of exciting shots. The hole variety here is tremendous - not to mention the beautiful views. It plays on and near the top of the hill Celtic Manor sits on, so its scenery is more spectacular than the low-lying Twenty Ten course. You can walk the Montgomerie course, but it's not easy. Buggies are recommended. Green fees range from £40-75. Celtic Manor Resort: Where to Stay. The five-star Celtic Manor Resort is the obvious and luxurious choice for lodging when you're playing the Montgomerie or the other two Celtic Manor courses. It's a five-star, 400-plus room lodge overlooking the countryside. It also features a fullservice spa and upscale dining and bar options. From Newport, you're also just about a half hour to the city centre of Cardiff.

Σε αυτό το λόγο οφείλεται και η μετονομασία του γηπέδου. Είναι ένα γήπεδο που θα το ευχαριστηθούν οι παίκτες που χτυπάνε δυνατά τη μπάλα και τα χτυπήματά τους έχουν απόσταση. Διαφορετικά θα μάθετε να κτυπάτε καλά από τα bunkers ή από τις drop zones του γηπέδου. Ο χαρακτήρας του γηπέδου σίγουρα δικαιολογεί τη φιλοξενία του Turkish Airlines Open, αλλά δεν θα έλεγα ότι είναι και το καλύτερο γήπεδο γκολφ που μπορεί κάποιος να παίξει στο Belek.

Maxx Royal, the premium luxury hotel accross the street took over the course once they completed the hotel in mid-2011. The golf property was already built and opedend in 2008. As you can imagine the entrance, the driveway and the clubhouse itself were once again very impressive! So obviously with all Belek golf clubs you get that kind of wowfactor before you even touched ground at the first tee. The course has five par 5s and five par 3s. water coming into play at a decent amount of holes and bunkering and waste areas add up to tricky shots as already explained. The overall course character is again comparable to the Gloria New, pine trees all over the place but you will find most of your balls that end up in the rough. So overall this course is best for those golfers who strike the ball very well, can probably shape the ball a bit and are pretty accurate in direction and distance as the landing areas are pretty small. For all the others: learn playing from the sand, the dropping zones or out of the trees! It will happen! The course itself is very nice and deserves international attention for sure, even though it’s not the best course in Belek for me.

The Crete Golf Club is a relatively recent creation, about 16 miles east of Heraklion airport and surrounded by posh hotels, so it’s pretty easy of access. Opened in October 2003, it’s a year-round course, 18-hole par, designed by PGA Design Consulting of Great Britain. The course includes a double-ended 300-yard covered driving range with a short game area and two practice putting greens. It also has a golf academy for teenagers and adults. The 18-hole par 73 course was designed by Donald Harradine and opened in May 1973. Angelo Argea The Greek gray afro

O Angelo Argea ήταν o caddy του Jack Nicklaus για παραπάνω από είκοσι χρόνια. Συνεργάστηκαν για πρώτη φορά το 1963 κατά τη διάρκεια του τουρνουά Palm Springs Classic. Με την χαρακτηριστική γκρι άφρο κόμμωσή του, κατά τη διάρκεια του British Open του 1966 όταν ρωτήθηκε από άλλον γκόλφερ, τι ακριβώς κάνει για τον Nicklaus, ο gray afro τον αποστόμωσε:" O Jack μου έχει ζητήσει να κάνω δύο πράγματα μόνο, και αυτά όταν δεν παίζει καλά. Το ένα είναι να του θυμίζω συνέχεια ότι είναι ο καλύτερος παίκτης στο γήπεδο και το δεύτερο, ότι απομένουν και άλλες τρύπες". Ήταν το πρώτο Open που κατέκτησε ο Jack Nicklaus στην ιστορία του με τον Angelo Argea. Tο 1999 o Argea τιμήθηκε με το Worldwide Caddy Golf of Fame. Πέθανε από καρκίνο σε ηλικία 75 ετών το 2005.

Argea was born in Greece. He and Nicklaus first met at the Palm Springs Classic in 1963, when Argea signed up to caddy for him. Argea continued to caddy for Nicklaus for over 20 years. Argea was easily recognizable by his gray afro. A golfer once noticed that Argea didn't read greens, step off the yardage or select clubs, so he asked Argea, "What exactly do you do for Jack?" Argea replied, "He asked me to do two things. When he's not playing well, one, remind him that he's the best golfer out there. And two, that there's plenty of holes left." He was inducted into the PCA Worldwide Caddy Hall of Fame in 1999. Argea died of liver cancer at age 75.
