2022–2023

Educating students to step into global leadership is the mission of the Collins College of Business. We achieve this mission by recruiting and retaining top notch faculty, staff, and students. Our achievement is shown by the impact being made by our alumni network around the world. Whether it is developing a nonprofit to support the education of kids in New Mexico, building a company that lives the goals of both clean energy and good community values, or constructing the second tallest building in the world, the foundation of skills and values of these alumni was built in the halls of Helmerich Hall at the Collins College of Business.

Our rigorous academic curriculum and small class size, combined with impactful co-curricular opportunities and internships, provide our students with a dynamic learning experience. Collins College students experience international corporate cultures while participating in programs around the world, including study-abroad in Sweden and Italy. They develop innovation and team presentation skills as they compete (and win) the prestigious statewide Love’s Entrepreneur’s Cup. They manage a $7 million investment fund, with earnings providing scholarship opportunities to fellow students. Their leadership skills are honed as they lead and execute organizations like TEDxUTulsa, bringing in speakers from around the country to discuss issues impacting the world.

Students explore career pathways while receiving mentorship from our involved and dedicated group of alumni, community, and corporate stakeholders. Monthly Friends of Finance luncheons allow students to engage with local companies while learning from world-class business leaders. Faculty deliver groundbreaking research that drives curriculum, business decisions, and societal impact.

Our strategic plan is built on the input and expertise of our most committed stakeholders including alumni, faculty, students, university, and corporate colleagues. This plan is delivering transformational change for our students and our community that is influencing a rapidly changing world. We invite you to join us and share our message as we continue to be at the forefront of addressing the disruption occurring in business and in business education.

STRATEGIC GOAL 4: Brand–Making a Societal Impact

• Connecting with local entrepreneurs and funders to increase opportunity for entrepreneurial growth and for underrepresented groups to succeed.

• Engaging with local economic development and philanthropic organizations to provide research and support to address challenges such as access to healthy foods, access to transportation, organ donations in tribal populations, affordable housing access in the Tulsa metropolitan area, workforce policies, and innovative energy applications.

• Fostering faculty service on engines for community impact including the Tulsa Area United Way, Tulsa Economic Development Corporation, 36 Degrees North, Tulsa’s basecamp for Entrepreneurs, and Stitchcrew, a business accelerator for underrepresented groups.

• Creating an innovation center designed to commercialize TU-centric intellectual property with a focus on substantive societal impact.

STRATEGIC GOAL 5: Operations

The foundation for achieving all our strategic goals is to ensure transparent and well-functioning operations. Actions to achieve this outcome include:

• Promoting faculty, staff and student access to technology that provides the most up to date learning, allowing them to be integrated in our rapidly changing world.

• Facilitating faculty, staff, and student input in design updates and renovation of Helmerich Hall to support the execution of the College’s Strategic Plan.

• Updating policies and processes to improve the quality and efficiency of service and effectively communicate changes to faculty, staff, and students.

• Updating job responsibilities for chairs and staff, and periodically evaluate college committee structure.

• Hosting quarterly updates with partners in Admissions, Student Success, CaneCareers, Development, the Graduate School, and International Programs to enhance transparency.
