Salute to Agriculture Alberta Beef promoted in Mexico

Some well known livestock farmers, specializing in cattle production, had the opportunity to showcase their high quality products in a trade show in Mexico recently. Included in this delegation was well known Solaris producer and marketer, Elroy Yakemchuk, a councillor for Division 5 in the County of Two Hills.

The 18 year veteran on County Council enjoyed the social interaction and had the opportunity to mingle with beef producers and trade delegates from Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Mexico. Several federal and provincial government delegates mingled with local and visiting farmers and were able to trade ideas and network with their colleagues in the beef industry.

Accompanying Yakemchuk was Karlene Yakemchuk, his daughter-in-law, who did a splendid job at this prestigious event.

Lakeland Seed Swap Visits Alice Melnyk Public Library

It all starts with a seed.

As we approach the beginning of spring and the growing season, an enthusiastic group of volunteers from our community are getting together to help spread the word about the benefit of growing your own garden at home.

It doesn't take much space or money... but rather, a little time and effort. Over the years it has become more convenient to get our fresh produce from supermarkets and chain stores due to our increasingly busy lives.

The Lakeland Seed Swap is a passion project started by Cathrine Mackenzie, Gerald Delorme, Betty-Lou Kotze, and Morgan Gordeyko. With currently over three hundred and twenty members, this project has a group of passionate and excited members who are eager to share their combined experience and vast knowledge of gardening with the whole

community, and Morgan, the administrator, who just wanted to learn how to keep her house plants alive.

"For me," Cathrine Mackenzie recalls fondly, "it started when I got my new home years ago, and all I wanted was some flowers. That ignited a passion that continues till today. Soon I started growing raspberries, then peas, and before long, my whole house was surrounded by fresh vegetables, berries, and fruit trees. When I moved to Myrnam, I continued to garden, and had the opportunity to make my new home my new gardening project."

With the goal this year of getting as many people to grow their own gardens at home, the Lakeland Seed Swap group is willing to provide anyone interested with seeds and advice, from the novice to the seasoned grower.

For all those interested in learning more about the Lakeland Seed Swap and (continued on page 3)

Putin’s War of Revenge on Ukraine

scale war that has left millions of Ukrainians displaced inside their country and beyond. This is a one sided war simply because Ukraine cannot touch Russia in retaliation. The United Nations has been proven to be inept.

High on the agenda was toppling the government of Ukraine's elected president, who Putin thought would be a “pushover”. Sending troops into Ukraine from the north, south and east, Putin told the Russian people his goal was to "demilitarise and de-Nazify Ukraine".

power grids, hospitals, schools, residential areas, and apartment blocks. Land mines litter forests and fields. Missiles rain down daily on all the cities and countryside.

For years, the Russian president has denied Ukraine its own statehood and that Ukraine was part of Russia dating back to the late 9th Century. The internet has many pictures and stories about the former Soviet Union, and the evils of Stalin who killed about 5 or 6 million Ukrainians with starvation called the Holodomar in the 1930’s.

ing, killing, and war.

It is not known how this war on Ukraine will end. What we see is a country devasted by a brutal regime. The people of Russia are NOT inherently wicked, but their despotic leaders are. We see destruction, separated families, wives without husbands, children without fathers. The injuries, scars, and PTSD will last a lifetime. At this time Putin has a warrant for his arrest by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.

George Leonty in Lviv, Ukraine (2013)

WhenPutin sent thousands of soldiers into Ukraine from the north on February 24th, 2022 he thought he could sweep into the capital Kyiv in a matter of days and depose the government of former comedian, Volodymyr Zelensky. But, there were no flowers or marching bands to greet this nasty invasion.

Putin described the biggest European invasion since the end of World War Two as a "special military operation" rather than the full-

In 2013, my wife and I toured southern and western Ukraine and all of Crimea. We never saw any nazis or soldiers. We saw a free and friendly country with vast agricultural land, cities with beautiful architecture, railway networks, and lovely countryside. Since 2014, Russia built a 60 km. high-tech security fence along annexed Crimea's border with mainland Ukraine.

It was clear that "denazification” is basically “de-Ukrainization" - in effect erasing the modern state of Ukraine. Putin insists that Ukraine is historically part of Russia, like during the Soviet Union days.

It is disturbing to see pictures of 75 year old Patriarch Kirill, and other Russian Orthodox priests in Russia using censors and holy water to bless rockets, rifles, and jets to be used on Ukraine. Putin is seen in church holding a candle and making the sign of the cross.

Ukraine is not part of NATO, however United States and many NATO countries have supplied tanks, weapons, artillery, medical supplies, generators, and much more.

Dictator Putin on many occasions has made nuclear threats, talking of using all means at his disposal to pursue his insane land grabs. Keep in mind that Russia covers 11 time zones. Hypocrite Putin, who espouses Christianity, would do well to read James 4 in the bible about lust, covet-

About 1.3 million grateful Canadians are of Ukrainian heritage. We are grateful for our ancestors who emigrated in the early 1900’s. Since the start of 2022,more than 132,000 Ukrainian nationals have entered Canada. Settlement agencies can help them with things like finding housing, work, and schools.

Canada still has God in its anthem. Prayer is in order. The internet and youtube have some moving musical prayers for Ukraine that you can listen to.

Regional Update from MLA Jackie Homeniuk

Heartwarming hospitality at Hillside Lodge

LastTuesday, I joined Premier Smith and Minister Sawhney in Mundare to announce new supports for Ukrainian Newcomers in our province. Perhaps the most important support announced is the Ukrainian Help Desk, which will serve as a one-stop-shop for displaced Ukrainians to call and access all the resources available to them. This will greatly streamline the process of accessing supports and information, and as such was a key recommendation of the Premier’s Advisory Task Force on Ukraine, which I was honoured to chair. You can find more information on Ukrainian supports here: https:// www.alberta.ca/support-for-ukrainians.aspx.

The Legislative Assembly passed Budget 2023 last week. Like last year, we once again have a balanced budget, thanks to the sound fiscal management and policies of our gov-

ernment. Additionally, this year’s budget features a record investment in healthcare, as our government is committing an additional $965 million to continue strengthening the healthcare system for all Albertans. Furthermore, education is receiving a funding increase of $1.8 billion, to support the hiring of 3,000 educational staff. With these and many other investments, we can ensure that the opportunity and growth Alberta has seen over the past four years will continue decades into the future.

I am pleased to share that Alberta once again led the country in net interprovincial migration in the fourth quarter of 2022. This achievement is further proof that Canadians from coast to coast are seeing that the positive, pro-growth policies of our government are working. Alberta is a land of opportunity, and I am proud that our government has successfully renewed the Alberta Advantage.

Please contact my constituency office at fortsaskatchewan.vegreville@ assembly.ab.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

Leaving the warmth and security of my home and family in South Africa was difficult to say the least. From a blistering heatwave in South Africa, to the wonderful chilly weather has been quite the adjustment.

Yet, while met with the intense cold, a little place in Two Hills is spreading love and warmth. From the moment I initially arrived in Two Hills, I was treated wonderfully during my stay at the Hillside Lodge. The comfortable room, the hearty, fresh and healthy meals served by an exuberant staff made my stay an absolute delight.

The Hillside Lodge in Two Hills is home to many friendly and loving residents, with whom I had the privilege of getting to spend some time. Always greeted with warm smiles

and loving embraces, it is little wonder why so many choose to call it home.

Residents are treated to many engaging activities including exercise, bingo, and various other fun-filled things to do.

In addition to providing exceptional care to their residents, the Hillside Lodge also allows members of the community to order meals that are prepared by their talented kitchen crew. For those of us who never seem to have enough time, it is a great way to get a hearty and healthy, home cooked meal for a very reasonable price.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the management, staff and residents of the Hillside Lodge for their outstanding hospitality and a great time filled with beautiful memories.

Learning By Doing At New Myrnam School

On March 2nd, our grade seven and eight students were posed with the challenge of moving our student made eco classroom building. The challenge? They were only allowed to use simple machines and man power! When Mr. Tymofichuk first proposed the problem to them, they didn't think it was possible. “Moving the eco-classroom seemed like a joke to some of the kids at first. Until the building moved 6 inches. Then it became real!” Principle Eriksen said. Before the seven and eight students could start figuring out how they could possibly move this large building with purely simple machines, our high school outdoor ed class had to help. They cleared out all the snow around the building so that the younger students could get access to the bottom of the building. Once the snow was cleared out, the seven and eights were ready to start their new challenge of moving the building. They first decided that they would use fence posts as rollers along the bottom of the building to move it, and levers to lift the building onto the rollers. Students used a large 4x6” timber as a lever to attempt to lift the building. They positioned the

fulcrum, while several students applied force. The timber snapped like a small twig! They re-adjusted their fulcrum to support another timber better, and tried again. This time, they were successful, and were able to lift it onto the rollers with minimal effort. The fence posts under the skids reduced the friction to roll the building along. Then the second challenge appeared! There wasn’t enough room for all the students to push on the backside of the building. Students borrowed a large “tug of war” rope from the gym and devised a way of fastening the rope to the building. Everyone in the group could now apply some force! The building wasn't moving in a straight line. Effort had to be applied to certain parts to keep it moving straight. Throughout the move, the fence posts had to be repositioned from the rear to the front. This was definitely a challenge, but our students were able to adapt and overcome each challenge that came their way! Just another day of learning by doing at New Myrnam School, where we applied what we learned and realized what can be accomplished when we all pull together as a community!

Iamimpressed with the outpouring of support for Ukrainian refugees from our families, communities, and various levels of government. We are acutely aware of the many individuals and families that assisted our refugees by providing accommodations, meals, and other levels of support.

The County of Two Hills has a small fund set aside to assist our Ukrainian families who fled a war

they did not start and from a communist regime that had no right to invade a sovereign nation.

When an approach was made to the County to assist with some expenses for some refugees who are being housed by a family west of Two Hills, there was no hesitation from councillors to lend a helping hand.

In addition to this, Premier Danielle Smith traveled to Mundare on March 21st to announce further suport for Ukrainian refugees arriving in Canada.

The additional $2.1 million will ensure that this persecuted community of refugees will receive the love and warmth from a great province and nation.

Many of us immigrants have enjoyed the embrace, warmth and generosity from our pioneering settlers and succeeding waves of newcomers are taken care of by a people whose hearts are as large as the borders of this bountiful nation.

Greetings to all our readers,

It is a great privilege to be back in the beautiful town of Two Hills. The warm, friendly faces I had the pleasure of reconnecting with, have made the dreary weather much more tolerable.

If you haven't seen me in town yet, it would be because I spend my time bustling about with a toque on my head and getting as quickly as possible from one place to the next. I do believe it is Canada's way of welcoming me home by making up for all I missed over my time away.

First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest thanks to the staff and residents of the Hillside Lodge for giving me a place to stay while I got settled into my new place. The generosity and hospitality I received is second to none.

Being gone for as long as I have, I spent much time imagining gorging myself on the things I was not able to enjoy while in South Africa (I made sure to send my family pictures of all the delicious goodies I have been enjoying.), like many favorites from our local restaurants, and candy, cookies and snacks.

It is great to see how many new businesses have opened in town. I was tremendously impressed with the new Sport Centre with its well equipped gym; how easy it is to lose track of time training with access to a large variety of equipment which is in excellent condition.

Two Hills Clover Farms has a

great selection of products and pretty much anything you would need, not to mention the Two Hills Pharmacy at its new location and asthetically pleasing layout.

I would like to thank the members of the community for such a warm reception. It is truly a pleasure and a privilege to be part of such a warm and wholesome community.

I look forward to connecting with you all. You can reach me on our new number at 780-208-2948. It will be my great pleasure to continue to serve our community in the best way I can to try to give back even half of the love I have received from the endearing residents of the County of Two Hills.

Be sure to check out our website, soon to be updated and our Facebook page. Tag up to let us know of any upcoming events.

Until next month, stay safe and stay healthy

Loving Tribute to Ethel Albrecht

Ethel was born in 1930 in rural Ontario. After finishing high school, she enrolled in a private business college where she got her certification in secretarial and bookkeeping.

Ethel married Phillip Albrecht in 1953 and moved west to southern Saskatchewan. After a few years they picked up and moved to southern Alberta.

Ethel Albrecht moved to the Two Hills area in the fall of 1967. During these early years Ethel was busy raising her 4 children Wayne, Grant, David and Sheila, as well as working hard on the family farm.

Ethel started her volunteer work shortly after moving to Two Hills as the Treasurer for the Morecambe Rural Electrical Association. When her youngest, Sheila was old enough to start school Ethel decided to go back to work and got a job in the office with Diachuk Concrete in Two Hills. From there she moved on to work at the admitting desk for the Two Hills Hospital.

Prior to retirement Ethel started to get involved with more local groups, such as the Two Hills Swimming Pool and Two Hills United Church. Ethel retired from the Hospital in the early 1990's. Looking for more challenges, Ethel decided to refocus her time on more volunteer work. In 1993 she became Treasurer of the Two Hills Senior Center and before long she was the President of the Two Hills Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Treasurer for the Two Hills Swimming Pool, Treasurer for the Two Hills United Church, Member of the Two Hills Hospital Auxiliary and Board Member for the Two Hills Family and Community Services Society. According to her husband, Philip, Ethel always had her nose in the books! Ethel is well known for her many hilarious antics at various funding raising campaigns: such as dressing up as a clown. And we all remember the time Ethel stole the runway at the local charity fashion show dressed as a bag lady.

Ethel has provided dedicated volunteer service to our community for the last 50 plus years and in return has received many hours of satisfaction knowing that she has done her part to make our community a better place to live.

Ranchers, Feeding Cattle and Meeting Emission Targets

Sustainability has always been on industry’s mind while adopting cattle best management practices. In the Western Provinces, the livestock industry has been researching and implementing feeding management plans to achieve a better understanding of feed and performance for years. Cattle performance is linked to animal well being and feed efficiency, and it just so happens that it correlates to emission reduction.

We understand what causes the natural emission of methane and nitrogen from animals after years of research. Just like all wild and domestic living creatures, production of gas from animal feed digestion depends on diet. An increase in poor quality feed will end up producing more by product such as methane and nitrous oxide. The amount of emission that comes from fermentation will depend on the feeds digestibility. It is speculated that an increase in 10% digestibility in feed leads to a reduction of up to 20% in methane emission. Therefore, when animals are fed more digestible rations, including ingredients such as grains and pellets (supplementary feeds), methane production per dry matter intake (DMI) is reduced, whereas increasing DMI of less digestible feed like forages had little effect on methane production per DMI. Increasing the

supplementary feeds proportion in the diet generally increases a proportion of microflora in the rumen affecting fermentation and decreasing methane emission. Therefore, manipulating the diet through feeding highly digestible components is not only an effective way of reducing methane emission, it also improves animal performance (weight gained and milk production). Feeding ruminants (animal with four stomachs like cattle) is more complex as too much supplemental feeds makes the rumen extremely acidic which is harmful to the animal’s wellbeing and their performance. Therefore the balance between roughage (hay/ fibre) and supplementary feed needs to be monitored very closely.

Understanding the impact of how feed composition and quality affects the animal well being as well as performance has also improved. Feeding is not one size fits all situation as growing conditions, soil type, harvesting, storage, and feeding method will vary the feed components that affects the nutritional content of the diet on a weekly basis. Pasturing management program is still popular today due to it being time, labour, land and equipment efficient. But like any plan there is costs and benefits. It reduces the (machinery) carbon emission from harvesting the feed and lower manure management cost as well as increasing the soil organic carbon. As a cost, it reduces animal performance due to a greater variance of feed quality which is directly related to increase methane emissions and increase

nitrous oxide emissions. A more controlled feeding program, would be the comparatively opposite to the previous. Increased consistency of feed quality, animal performance and lower methane emission comes with an upsurge in capital cost, manual labour and carbon emission. Either way you look at it, both systems are part of the nutrient cycle as an increase/decrease in emissions are also proportionately linked to the surrounding vegetation increase/decrease.

Ranching is not only a business; it is also a way of life. Successful ranching can only be achieved when you love the business you are in and the animals you care for. Success involves a good feeding program based on clear information that guides how it will be amended from month to month and year to years. The international community needs to recognize that Prairie Ranchers evolved over the last century from being a self-sustaining livelihood to being a knowledge-based family enterprise that is familiar with scientific concepts and complex tools. The end goal has been and always be protecting the animal’s well being which is intrinsically linked to the well being of their multimillion-dollar business. Want to know more? The County of Two Hills’ ALUS program launched in June 2020. The program focuses on flood and drought mitigation as well as the restoration of wetlands and riparian areas currently being farmed for commodity production such as grain or cattle. ALUS staff work closely with producers to develop and support projects that suit local needs and priorities. The ALUS Two Hills program aims to help address important environmental issues with riparian health and the loss of wetlands and native grasslands in order to drive better outcomes for farmers and ranchers. The ALUS Two Hills Program Coordinator will work with farmers and ranchers to help establish these projects, while participants receive annual, per-acre payments for the management and maintenance of these projects on their land. Through their ALUS projects, ALUS Two Hills participants will help to produce cleaner water, cleaner air and more biodiversity, including pollinator habitat, for the benefit of everyone in the community.

ALUS Two Hills Coordinator, Roxy Zahara, joined the program in November 2022. She is dedicated to bringing awareness to natural infrastructure solutions and to help support farmers and ranchers with their ALUS projects. Roxy isn’t new to the farming industry, she was born and raised on a farm, and continues to farm with her husband and two daughters. She has also spent time in the classroom setting, educating students on renewable and environmental solutions.

Currently, ALUS Two Hills is collaborating with New Myrnam School, a landowner and Two Hills County, on a project that will become our ALUS Two Hills demonstration site. On the junction of highway 881 and 45, is a reclaimed gravel pit. This site will become an education tool for community members and visitors to learn about nature based solutions to environmental issues, such as drought and flood mitigation. Last summer, New Myrnam School, along with ALUS Two Hills, Two Hills County staff, and county volunteers, planted over 300 trees in support of flood and drought mitigation on this site. New Myrnam School students designed, and carefully chose trees and shrubs that would fit this climate and soil type. The students are currently working on highlight signs that will educate the public on how trees can make such a huge impact on our environment. These interpretive signs will help visitors understand this site and the impact these ALUS projects have. A few of the future plans for this site include, installing a solar watering system, designing a drip system to water the trees, and a pollinator shelterbelt around the dugout. The ALUS Two Hills demonstration site will be open this summer, so stop by for a visit.

To help keep Alberta Dutch elm disease (DED) free, the Society to Prevent Dutch Elm Disease (STOPDED) encourages everyone to pay attention to the provincial elm pruning ban between April 1 and September 30.

To help eliminate beetle habitat,

Agriculture

Elm pruning ban starts April 1

it is important to properly prune all dead wood out of elms and dispose of all pruned elm wood and elm firewood by burning, burying or chipping by March 31. Stored elm wood can harbour the elm bark beetles that can carry DED.

“Elm bark beetles are responsible

for spreading the deadly DED fungus. They feed on healthy elms and breed in dead and dying elm trees,” says Janet Feddes-Calpas, STOPDED executive director.

“If elm trees are pruned during the pruning ban period, beetles that are active at this time can be attracted

to the scent of the fresh wound and possibly infect an otherwise healthy elm with DED.

Planning for east-central irrigation expansion

Alberta’s government and its partners are investing in an irrigation expansion project that will position Alberta’s agriculture sector to lead economic growth.

Irrigation infrastructure plays a transformative role in Alberta’s rural economy, creating new opportunities for producers by providing increased water storage, stability through periods of drought and long-term economic growth.

Alberta’s government, the Municipal District of Acadia, the Special Areas Board and the Canada Infrastructure Bank are investing about $7 million to continue the planning of a large-scale irrigation project to be located in eastcentral Alberta.

“Historically, irrigation has been a game-changer when it comes to increasing sustainable primary crop production. The east-central project has the potential to help grow the agri-food sector and support a diversified value-added processing industry. Thanks to our partnerships with Canada Infrastructure Bank, the MD of Acadia and the Special Areas Board, we are another step closer to

modernizing and expanding Alberta’s irrigation infrastructure.” Nate Horner, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation

Planning for the irrigation project will include preliminary engineering design, environmental and regulatory considerations and potential financing options. It is expected to take up to 24 months to complete and will inform the next steps in the irrigation project.

“Special Areas has everything it

needs to become a highly productive agricultural area – everything except a reliable supply of water. This project could reinvent what agriculture looks like in east-central Alberta, bringing new opportunities to producers passionate about agriculture. Special Areas appreciates the strong partnership built by this project, and wants to thank Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation, the MD of Acadia and the Canada Infrastructure Bank for their ongoing support in devel-

oping large-scale irrigation in this region.” Jordon Christianson, chair, Special Areas Board

“The MD of Acadia is excited to be partnering with the Special Areas Board, Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation, and the Canada Infrastructure Bank on irrigation development in our region. A large-scale irrigation project would increase water security and bring major economic benefits to agricultural producers while also enhancing recreational opportunities in the area.”

Peter Rafa, reeve, Municipal District of Acadia

“Modern irrigation infrastructure is critical to farmers working in Alberta’s agricultural sector and it supports the province’s economy. As part of the CIB’s Growth Plan initiative to accelerate investment in new infrastructure, we are pleased to further collaborate with Alberta’s government, the MD of Acadia and the Special Areas Board on the planning of an irrigation project in eastcentral Alberta.” Ehren Cory, CEO, Canada Infrastructure Bank (Source alberta.ca)

To most people, Easter is a group of three days when Christians commemorate Jesus Christ's Resurrection from death after being crucified on the cross. However, others celebrate Easter because it goes back to the name of a pre-Christian goddess in England, Eostre, goddess of the spring season. There isn't much to back it up and it was a pagan festival.

The significance of the Easter weekend is actually more important and rather more sacred than Christmas itself, as the scriptures tell us to celebrate in the Resurrection of The Christ.

Easter can be divided into three parts: the arrest , the crucifixion and the resurrection,The Resurrection is the most pivotal part. It's a revelation of God's Immaculate Power and Love, a one time in history, of a Person who is God and came to earth in flesh and was restricted by His own laws. We celebrate Easter because of the essence of what happened between Father God and Jesus Christ.

Easter's story starts at the arrest of Jesus. It was the lead action that had started this cycle that would change the course of history forever. Jesus being God, in the image of God and is part of the Triune God. Jesus, being made flesh and dying, allowed

The Joy of Easter Sunday

us to be a part in the heritance that Father God has had in place for us since the creation of the universe.

Jesus was a Man that lived for thirtythree years and had a ministry that started the Christian religion. Within the space of just 3 years, Jesus' Name is most well-known name for over 2000 years.

Jesus, in other words, is the reason for Easter being what it is. His death was not just so that our sins could be forgiven or so that we could be in heaven with him. In fact, Jesus' Death was such a symbol of sacrifice in the spiritual realm, that His Death alone had built the bridge between death and God because God is Life. Jesus' Death allowed him, being the sacrifice with no blemish, to be sanctified in human sin so that he could go the land of Sheol . Sheol is a place where the souls of the dead went to after the body died. Jesus went to Sheol and walked down the corridors of Hades to retrieve the cursed keys of death, so that the bridge that was built could be used for us humans who have fallen short of the glory of God.

As a matter of fact , Jesus' death had such an impact, that for over 2000

years later people are still engrossed with His Presence. Jesus' Crucifixion had opened the portal for the dead to be alive in God. It literally shifted heaven and what it once was. In fact the death of Jesus had impacted the entire spiritual world. In the life of Jesus alone, he had fulfilled over 300 Prophecies in just His earthly ministry. In the Old Testament there about 55 prophecies about Jesus coming and the significance of his death.

Jesus had and is still playing a major role in the lives of millions of believers. However that isn't even the tip of the iceberg, because Jesus' role as a human was to train us to be what heaven needs and therefore he uses us as vessels for His Kingdom.

Jesus had mentioned that the Kingdom of God lives within you because your soul is what lives on. Your soul is dependent on what happened on the cross for it to live on afterwards in peace and harmony.

The name Easter only came into play in the late 7th to early 8th century. And it is derived from the Pagan festival called Eostre. The original name for Easter was Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday.

In conclusion, Easter weekend

wouldn't have been what it is, if it was not for Jesus, the Christ, and His Crucifixion, that Jesus was and is real; he was so real that he was not just a mere prophet or good teacher, neither was he just a carpenter from the Middle East who had power of a god to heal and do miracles, nor was he a man with fear. He is a part of The Triunal Godhead, Who became flesh, so that in return, he could take sin on as His Own and defeat death and the grave which was our wage for sin.

The existence of Jesus Christ is right before our eyes. Even our calender is built around it BC and AD based on the birth of Jesus. Before that, a historian Gary Habermas lists 39 ancient sources for Jesus and in return numerated 100 supporting facts about his life, teachings, crucifixion, and resurrection. The historical evidence for Jesus' execution is so strong that Gerd Ludemann from Germany said " Jesus death as a consequence of crucifixion is indisputable'. Gerd was an atheist , who later became a christian. An Agnostic Historian Bart Ehrman said " Jesus existed whether we like it or not". In other words, denying Jesus doesn't make him go away, it for one proves that no amount of evidence will convince you to believe he didn't exist~ God's not dead

Investing in Alberta’s hemp industry

In partnership with the federal government, Alberta has awarded two grants totalling $900,000 to help grow the province’s hemp industry. INCA, a globally recognized hemp manufacturing company, will receive a grant of up to $400,000. INCA will use the funding to build a new $72-million hemp processing facility in Vegreville.

Blue Sky Hemp Ventures, a global leader in hemp whole plant utilization, will receive a grant of $500,000 to advance a proposed $75-million hemp food processing facility in Alberta.

“Alberta’s growing hemp industry is helping to build a strong agriculture sector that creates jobs and brings tremendous opportunities to

communities across the province. By producing, processing and creating value-added products within the province, the hemp industry can remain sustainable and agile, while seizing new opportunities in domestic and export markets.” MarieClaude Bibeau, federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food

As part of the venture, INCA will

transform hemp fibre into natural fibre composites in Alberta for further manufacturing.

The facility will create demand for 54,000 tonnes of hemp biomass per year, adding $270 million in additional farm income over 25 years.

Supporting agricultural labour demands

Record-setting economic growth

in Alberta’s agriculture and agrifood sector has ignited demand for workers across the province.

To support producers and processors, Alberta, in partnership with the federal government, is providing $2.5 million to Ag for Life to help companies recruit, hire and retain workers in the agriculture and agrifood industry.

Since 2011, Ag for Life has delivered

agriculture education to over half a million Albertans across the province. As a charitable organization, Ag for Life works with producers to develop high-quality programming to inspire a better understanding of the integral role agriculture plays in our economy.

“Canada needs more skilled workers to help strengthen our workforce. Through our investments in skills development and employment

services, we’re working with provinces and territories to ensure that, across Canada, more skilled workers can be hired and retained. Last year, almost 97,000 Albertans were supported under the federal labour market transfers with Alberta. This funding is critical to supporting Ag for Life, reaching more Albertans with labour market training supports and ensuring that employers have the skilled workers they need.”

Carla Qualtrough, federal Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion

The funding will provide eligible organizations with grants of up to $40,000 to increase public awareness of agricultural career opportunities through online advertising campaigns.

World Day of Prayer 2023

On Friday March 3 at 7p.m, 15 people representing four Two Hills churches, Ukrainian Orthodox, Ukrainian Catholic, United Church, and the Fellowship Chapel gathered at the Two Hills United Church to celebrate the Annual World Day of Prayer Service sponsored by the Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada. This year the service was prepared by Taiwan with the theme being, “I Have Heard About Your Faith.” The World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement which brings Christians of many traditions together to observe a common day of prayer. Following the service, presented in video format, everyone gathered for a time of refreshments and fellowship. The World Day of Prayer has been supported by the churches here for many years, with each church taking a turn at hosting this event yearly, usually on the first Friday of March. We hope many more will help us celebrate this worthy cause next year.

Aunt Niri’s Fun Corner From my corner

to become an immeasurable intensity of love, protectiveness, and unity. We would do nothing without him, his home was our home, and vice-versa.

Hello precious readers,

It was with a heavy heart and a roller-coaster of emotions, that I had to say goodbye to my baby brother, Jared, on March 12th . Jared was returning to Two Hills, Canada after eight years of spending time in South Africa.

Jared arrived here, in S.A. shortly after the death of my husband, Bradley, who played a pivotal role in the lives of all my siblings and other family members. My youngest, Aaron, was 6 years old at the time, and finally got to meet and spend time with his uncle. They soon realised that they were two peas in a pod. Bonds with my older sons, Keanan and Brennan, and thereafter,my nephews, Pierce and Cailean, my husband, Hans, my step-children, Kayleen and Cameron, and my married-into-the-family children, Onay and Kamleshan, were strengthened

Jared was always my 'baby'!. He kept me grounded, focused, and determined to make things happen. He was my very first motivation! As he grew older, and even now, he is my go-to guy, my sounding board, and my kryptonite. Family often tease me that rules change, and love rules, when Jared is around.

My sisters and I miss him.We understand logically, and selflessly that he is needed there, and he is more effective for Two Hills Regional Chronicle if he is there, but that does not take away the reality that he is NOT here!!!

So, precious communities of The County of Two Hills, please take care of my brother. The only reason I 'allowed' him ( said tongue-incheek like the typical older sister) to return to Two Hills, was in good faith, knowing that some of the most incredible people live in Two Hills. He loves you, and is determined to serve you in integrity, and diligence.

Until next month, Love always, Niri
